2011 World Series: Pujols Believes Winning Two Out of Three Will Determine the Champ
Not only have I been enjoying the electric headlines this World Series has produced so far, I’ve also been taking in the beefy quotes like a starved mountain lion. The latest thought provoking gem comes courtesy of Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols. To give a little background, since the series is now tied at 2-2, three games remain in the series. Said series will be decided when one of the two participating teams wins two of the aforementioned three remaining games. Here’s Al:
“Now it’s a best out of three,” Pujols said. “See who can win two games. At the end, that’s who is going to be raising the trophy.”
Really great stuff here. To rehash, when either the Cards or Rangers win two of the next three games, it will be the end, and the winner will be revealed on Fox for the world to see. It’s stuff like this that keeps me coming back for more. If I’m one of the beat reporters in the room when Albert delivers that quote, I may very well have beaten it right there on the spot. Profound thoughts from a man often seen wearing a giant diaper.
Tonight’s starters are Chris Carpenter and C.J. Wilson. Carpenter has pitched pretty well since crapping the mound against the Phillies roughly three weeks ago in Game 2 of the NLDS. As for Wilson? Well, the soon to be free agent is basically pitching for his life, but not really. If you consider the difference between making an annual salary of $14 million or $18 million a stressful state of affairs, you’re probably reading this from a private jet filled with an impressive collection of acorns.

Maybe he thinks the Rangers will go all Notre Dame and just quit.
October 24th, 2011 at 7:34 PM
*nods head*
prescient, man. prescient.

acorns are so 90′s. pistachios are the cat’s pajamas.

“Now it’s a best out of three,” Pujols said. “See who can win two games. At the end, that’s who is going to be raising the trophy.”
Reason why Albert skipped out on media after game 2. Couldn’t come up with a tremendous quote like the one above.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:35 PM
CJ wilson pitches scared way too often. Challenge the hitters! Forget about how bad the umpire is calling the zone. Stop being a pussy
October 24th, 2011 at 8:37 PM
Unacceptable sloppy defense by the Rangers. Ridiculous
October 24th, 2011 at 8:38 PM
Step 1 before step 2 there Moreland.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:40 PM
There is a reason you don’t try to pick up a baseball with a glove that isn’t rolling or has been dropped.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
St louis has carpenter on the mound..you cant let st louis get any lead when he is pitching. Texas should also let CJ walk next year unless they get someone else to be their #1 starter. Wilson can’t handle the pressure.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:44 PM
Cliff Lee isn’t walking through that door…
/wanking
October 24th, 2011 at 8:45 PM
Hey philly, surprised your team showed Lidge and Oswalt the door?
October 24th, 2011 at 8:46 PM
Overall, this strike zone sucks tonight.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:49 PM
Hey philly, surprised your team showed Lidge and Oswalt the door?
Philly didn’t like that $16 mill price tag next year for Oswalt and cost them $2 mill buyout instead. Lidge cost 1.5 mill instead of 12.5 for they year. They need to concentrate on resigning Rollins
October 24th, 2011 at 8:51 PM
I agree that it is a good move financially. Just wanted to get a philly fan opinion. vance Worley is a better long term option in the rotation anyways
October 24th, 2011 at 8:53 PM
Uncle ron just needs to pull wilson. He’s doing nothing but hurting texas’ chance to stay in this game. I’m not even a fan but Wilson pisses me off as much as Lackey
October 24th, 2011 at 8:53 PM
I am not sure I would want Sox to go after Oswalt but they need pitching. Dice-K is a huge ? and who knows what kind of mindset Beckett will have.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:53 PM
I also think there’s no need to have 3 lefties in the rotation.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:53 PM
Fixed for truth.
They can try to resign him for maybe $10 mil, not $18. And Rollins I’m torn on. I would say, sign Scutaro or Furcal and then let the prospect Galvis we have start in 2013. I don’t see Rollins being reasonable and he’ll end up with the Giants or someone like Dodgers.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:54 PM
I dont want Oswalt. We dont need another old pitcher
and a good Harry Caray impression by Holland on the broadcast
October 24th, 2011 at 8:55 PM
Philly, you really want a 37 year old shortstop in scutaro?
October 24th, 2011 at 8:56 PM
Colby Lewis needs to have another Gem on Wednesday and if needed, Derek Holland should start game 7
October 24th, 2011 at 8:56 PM
Uncle ron just needs to pull wilson. He’s doing nothing but hurting texas’ chance to stay in this game. I’m not even a fan but Wilson pisses me off as much as Lackey
Did Wilson watch last night’s game. He should have come in with same game plan as Holland. Lots of strikes, bust them in, and try not to hit anyone or walk anyone.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:58 PM
anybody got an update on the ratings margin between MNF and the World Series yet?
October 24th, 2011 at 8:58 PM
One year rental until Galvis is ready.
October 24th, 2011 at 8:59 PM
Deeser, this is how Wilson has pitched the entire postseason: without confidence. He’s suffering from what Jon Lester did the last month of the season. Trying to fool people with offspeed stuff but missng location.
October 24th, 2011 at 9:01 PM
Hey Texas, feel free to swing at those slow ass curveballs falling from the sky
October 24th, 2011 at 9:02 PM
mmmhhhmmm…self medicating with beer and chicken, I see.
October 24th, 2011 at 9:02 PM
So you dont swing at the curveballs in the middle of the plate but you swing at the outside pitches. Where is the plate discipline?
October 24th, 2011 at 9:03 PM
Holy shit Moreland destroyed that
October 24th, 2011 at 9:03 PM
Halfway up the upper deck
October 24th, 2011 at 9:04 PM
I didn’t even have to watch to know that was gone. The sound off the bat gave it away. Wow!
October 24th, 2011 at 9:05 PM
Great bunt by Andrus. Ballsy move
October 24th, 2011 at 9:07 PM
Hamilton looking so much healthier than he did in St. Louis
October 24th, 2011 at 9:07 PM
I agree Traderjack. Getting lit up in the 2nd inning of game 1 of the ALDS has changed the way Wilson has approached the hitters. I think he still has that game in his head and what the Rays did to him. Needs to get over it.
October 24th, 2011 at 9:09 PM
I know Michael Young is the old sage of the Rangers but he shouldn’t be batting 4th
October 24th, 2011 at 9:12 PM
Hey Wilson, you know you don’t have to go 3-2 on almost every batter
October 24th, 2011 at 9:15 PM
Not going to get that call when you don’t throw it consistantly for strikes. You get calls when you bury the zone, Wilson.
October 24th, 2011 at 9:17 PM
David Price thinks Wilson throws too many pitches too early
October 24th, 2011 at 9:37 PM
Big strike out but needs to follow it up here. Can’t live of that out.
October 24th, 2011 at 9:41 PM
Make fun of FOX showing Nolan Ryan every 10 seconds but I enjoyed his reactions that inning. He looked like he was about to vomit. Several “God dammit”s as well.
October 24th, 2011 at 9:42 PM
Wilson’s mechanics are all off. Release point is early, reaching back with the ball behind his back and down instead of straight back toward 2nd and parallel to the ground. Needs to make some adjustments but I don’t see him going much longer.
October 24th, 2011 at 9:49 PM
2nd player to try to pick a ball up with the glove.
October 24th, 2011 at 9:58 PM
the Ravens are JUST BRUTAL
October 24th, 2011 at 9:59 PM
the Ravens are JUST BRUTAL
Give some credit to the Jags D TBL, they’re a solid unit.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:03 PM
Box score I’m looking at says Flacco has 2 passing yards. I agree the Jags D deserves SOME credit, but the Ravens appear to be playing completely shitty (I am watching baseball though).
October 24th, 2011 at 10:11 PM
Four fumbles by MJD in the first half?
No first downs by the Ravens.
Who the fuck lines up these Monday night games?
October 24th, 2011 at 10:12 PM
Stayed balanced on the breaking pitch. Nice adjustment by Beltre.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:12 PM
I don’t think I’ll ever not get chills when a stadium plays the theme from The Natural after someone hits a home run.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:13 PM
the Ravens are JUST BRUTAL
This is brutal football all around. I’m considering switching to baseball.
Holy fuck. The Ravens flubbed a punt. Screw it, I’m sticking with Football. I enjoy trainwrecks.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:13 PM
I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone drop to a knee to hit a homerun
October 24th, 2011 at 10:15 PM
The patented Beltre to one knee on big homerun swings!
October 24th, 2011 at 10:15 PM
Whoops. Sorry. Wrong thread.
The Ravens just managed not to snap it in time for the two minute warning. I imagine this game is like watching a Jayhawk football scrimmage.
/Shows self out.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:15 PM
Beltre’s swing is wierd cause he keeps his weight back instead of a strong back leg and roll some the weight forward to balance off the swing. A lot of strength there.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:17 PM
This is it for Carpenter. Most likely last batter. Batters are getting the barrel below the ball on the sinker and driving it for singles.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:19 PM
Napoli just missed that. If pitch had more on it, then it was gone. Carpenter should be yelling at himself there.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:21 PM
What the fuck? Fox News CT had a quick update and stated that CT is trying to change the date for Halloween. Yeah, thats what our CT goverment should be worrying about; the date of Halloween.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:22 PM
? Why?
October 24th, 2011 at 10:26 PM
Just read about it here. Want to make it last Saturday of October every year so help parents and make it less stressfull. Can they pussify anything else? Ridiculous.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:36 PM
Ogando hasn’t thrown well and Freese swings at the 1st pitch. Not good. Thats how you leave 10 runners on base. Terrible decision to try to steal as well. If you are safe, Pujols gets walked anyways.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:38 PM
You betcha.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:42 PM
rangers pitching has been so lucky tp get bailed out all night
October 24th, 2011 at 10:42 PM
Oh, regarding halloween..i could do without it forever
October 24th, 2011 at 10:45 PM
Holliday is your LVP for the series
October 24th, 2011 at 10:45 PM
This is a terrible inning for Texas after opening inning with a walk.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:45 PM
Elvis andrus…way to swing on that awful pitch that wasn’t even close to the plate. Oh and Josh Hamilton, take a pitch once in a while
October 24th, 2011 at 10:46 PM
Looks like beltre and cruz will have to bail out their team once again
October 24th, 2011 at 10:46 PM
Texas hitters just bailed Carpenter out. Objective is to get the starter out of the game, not help him keep coming back out.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:50 PM
Moreland is supposed to be a good fielder….oops..way to go, spanky
October 24th, 2011 at 10:53 PM
What!? Guess your not watching AMC tonight.
October 24th, 2011 at 10:59 PM
I have no use for the “holiday” or the movies.
Oh and nice stretch by moreland to redeem hmself. Lets go texas. Score in the bottom of the 8th and let the bullpen close it out
October 24th, 2011 at 11:01 PM
Is Aikman in the stands by himself? That was weird
October 24th, 2011 at 11:05 PM
Nice at bat by Beltre. Swings out of shoes then takes a borderline strike. How about trying to get runner to third by hitting backside or flyball to deep CF
October 24th, 2011 at 11:14 PM
Napoli again.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:15 PM
This has been an AWESOME world series. Best overall series in a while.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:16 PM
Amazing what can happen for the Rangers when Michael Young actually gets a hit.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:17 PM
Looks like Napoli will have to bail out their team once again
fixed

Colby Lewis getting the start in game 6. Decent regular season pitcher. Great postseason pitcher. He and Jaime Garcia should be another good pitching duel
October 24th, 2011 at 11:21 PM
TLR brings in Lynn to give Kinsler an IBB and takes him out…..he’s losing it. Lynn looked confused
October 24th, 2011 at 11:27 PM
Colby Lewis getting the start in game 6. Decent regular season pitcher. Great postseason pitcher. He and Jaime Garcia should be another good pitching duel
Wash stated that Holland will not start game 7.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:30 PM
Deeser, if it goes seven and they start Harrison, holland better come in on the first sign of trouble
October 24th, 2011 at 11:32 PM
I agree Trader. Harrison is starting with Holland in relief.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:33 PM
This is so freaking tense
October 24th, 2011 at 11:33 PM
Man..wash should have used Mike Adams instead of Feliz…feliz is a mental case out there.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:34 PM
Egg on my face, holy crap…NAPOLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
October 24th, 2011 at 11:34 PM
Mike Napoli. Unreal.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:34 PM
Pujols fails to come through twice in a row. Huge!
October 24th, 2011 at 11:34 PM
Wow! What a double play there. K and throw out. Had to be a H and R for Pujols to swing at that.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:35 PM
SC’s tweets mocking pujols and TLR are just as entertaining as this game
October 24th, 2011 at 11:36 PM
“you better face the media after that you fat piece of shit” – souvenircity tweet after that pujols K
October 24th, 2011 at 11:37 PM
Of course it’s a little easier to throw out runners if you’re getting a fastball thrown to you at 99 MPH, but still
October 24th, 2011 at 11:38 PM
Awesome. Lets hit guys and walk guys in the 9th with a 2 run lead. Except for Holland last night, are all the Ranger pitchers afraid to throw strikes?
October 24th, 2011 at 11:38 PM
Feliz knows he can throw it right down the middle to Holliday and he’ll make an out, right?
October 24th, 2011 at 11:39 PM
Papelbon thinks Feliz fucks around too much with his pitches
October 24th, 2011 at 11:39 PM
This has been as good a World Series as I ever remember. 4 great games and 1 All Time Great Performance by the best player in the game. Awesome.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:42 PM
I loved the red sox winning in 2004 and 2007 but this series is more exciting than those. Sweeps are good to win a title but not totally fun to watch
October 24th, 2011 at 11:43 PM
Not saying to serve it up Trader but some of those weren’t close and they are down 2 with no one on. Last time I checked you can’t hit a 2-run HR with nobody on.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:45 PM
Can you imagine if Texas wins it what the front office will have to do to keep Wash from sniffing everything in site?
October 24th, 2011 at 11:47 PM
They can do whatever if it means TLR loses
