Bruce Hornsby’s Kid Can Dunk With Alacrity
Here’s Keith Hornsby, son of the music great Bruce Hornsby, throwing down a few dunks at UNC Asheville’s Midnight Madness. This is probably the first of three Big South college basketball posts this season. The other might come Nov. 13th when the Bulldogs open the season against North Carolina. I’d assume a third one will come in February/early March. Unless another 7-foot-7 player turns up in the conference, then all bets are off. [via Rush the Court]
Best Bruce Hornsby song ever? It’s this one, no doubt.
On my ipod. For awhile in 2010, it was among my “25 most played” on my ipod. Had a good night drinking with friends at the beach and it got in the rotation for awhile.

I think Tom Brady should go for the “Bruce Hornsby” next.

Never in a million years would have known he sang that song. I would’ve bet John Fogerty or Bob Seger.

Two young gents in my Sunday school class played on the same high school team as Hornsby’s son. I used to go to their games and think to myself that he could flat out play. Don’t ever remember him dunking, but he looks good.
/love the belly slide too

Deduct points for not being able to still the landing.

While Hornsby isn’t my thing, he has had a long and successful career. Dude even played the keys with the Dead for a few tours.

Steve Winwood > Bruce Hornsby
Please, Steve Winwood is in another galaxy
Considering that he sang this song when he was 16. pretty much sums it up.

don’t you love his ginger beard? And how when he throws a short out route, the defender always jumps it?

I got a nice chuckle out of that one.

they think they’re leaders of our country.
it’s not like there are more pressing issues to tackle first.

I would have rather signed Jeff George for 6 weeks, with Jamarcus wearing a headset on the sideline.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:30 PM
i bet you see a lot of cope. maybe a little grizzly.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:32 PM

Athletes need to get back to pushing alcohol and tobacco on the masses. Those were great ads and marketing campaigns. Stupid Gov’t!

I deserve that.

Don’t let the poodle fool you… Duffy is more man than Max Powers and Ellen DeGeneres combined.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:38 PM
grizzly? that shit is nasty. surely it is cope and skoal mostly. maybe a little bit of the cheaper stuff, but damn the griz is tough.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:38 PM
I haven’t heard of half the names you guys mentioned. Steve Winwood is the only one I’ve ever heard of. Bruce Hornsby could fall on me with a shirt that says, “HI, I’M BRUCE HORNSBY” and I still wouldn’t know who he is.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:39 PM
Some of the more unusual musical pairings I’ve see are Kenny Rogers and Wyclef Jean with The Gambler remix, and Eddie Vedder with the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in the Dead Man Walking soundtrack.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:40 PM
im betting grizzly because of the whole “in college/broke” thing. and it becomes habit.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:40 PM
There’s an old story of Bruce Hornsby narrowly beating a 13-year old Allen Iverson in a Northern VA pick-up game. Bruce used to get after it on the hard courts. Seriously.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:41 PM
mike huckabee and yes. metallica and lou reed.

The Tupac/Hornsby songs been on old ipod shuffle forever. Good running song. Too bad I dont run anymore.

metallica and lou reed
I did quite enjoy their S&M with the San Francisco Symphony.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:47 PM
“in college/broke”
not the ones that end up playing on sundays
October 18th, 2011 at 12:47 PM
Hornsby’s kid can ball? Well, that’s just the way it is.
Use of “alacrity” = jocularity.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
Oh, and fuck Loutallica.
October 18th, 2011 at 12:49 PM
Bruce Hornsby pretty much gave “End of the Innocence” to Don Henley. Much as I like The Way It Is and Mandolin Rain (BH did a great version of this tune with bluegrass master Ricky Skaggs), End of the Innocence is the one that will stand the test of time.
Oh, and baseball players not chewing tobacco is like strippers without fake boobs. Just can’t happen.

Great info. Like Bowie handing All the Young Dudes to Mott the Hoople.

Does The Range have any kids who can hoop? This shouldn’t be all about just Bruce Hornsby.
October 18th, 2011 at 3:41 PM
A few years back, 15 of my golf buddies and I had the pleasure of all sitting together on a flight, with Hornsby being the only stranger seated in the middle of all of us. Smoked, we all started humming, and then singing, The Way It Is and he finally said “fuck it” and joined in. For that reason, he will always be better than Steve Winwood.
