I think I’m with you on this. When you see a commercial and your first thought is “I don’t think I’d want 6 of those because I have a feeling I’d hate it after 1″, then that’s not very auspicious.

I for one also can’t stand winter ale’s. aren’t the usually pretty heavy in the spices like ginger and the like?

Winter Ales often have a very strong flavor and alcohol content. It’s also not unusual for them to be darker in appearance. But heavy fruitiness or spiciness is not confined to just Winter Ales. Ales, by definition, are usually full of very pronounced fruit and spice notes.
