Is Michigan State’s William Gholston a Dirty Player, or Was He Just Responding to Rough Michigan Play?
Upon first viewing of this video, your first thought will likely be: Damn, that William Gholston is one dirty player!
But then you see this video – which is what happens seconds before the punch – and you kind of wonder … maybe Gholston’s punch was warranted?
Uh, no. Gholston is dirty. Watch what happens after he lands on Denard Robinson on this play. He should have been ejected.
Gholston, if you’re wondering, was once an elite recruit, and we’ll probably see him playing on Sundays in a few years. This was his reaction after the game:
“I was just trying to play with reckless abandonment. Just gotta watch the film. … Everybody make mistakes when you’re trying to go hard.”

Jackson State Prison televises games?

Mike Martin was the dirtiest player on that field Saturday.

Uh, what the Michigan Lineman did in the second video wasn’t dirty.

Going to agree with Darrell on this one. Gholston may have not liked it, but keeping him blocked into the ground isn’t illegal unless he holds him while doing it.

That Vacuum cleaner was clearly the dirtiest player.
October 17th, 2011 at 12:26 PM
He’s probably just pissed about having to wear those ugly uniforms.

Who, the Michigan player or Gholston?
/both

Yeah those MSU uniforms were terrible.

A palm to the back of the head? I honestly don’t know if it’s a penalty.

all the pro combats are ugly, imo. but current players and high school recruits like them for some reason.

When you add your autograph to them they sell really well on Ebay.

I heard on a telecast that a certain player didn’t go to aTm because he didn’t like their colors. He wasn’t a fan of Maroon. That seems… dumb… if that was the only reason he didn’t go there and it was the school that best fit him. I’m guessing that’s not the whole story. Announcers made it seem like it was though.

Whoa. I have to think when you add up the punch (which was solid, by the way) and the face mask rip job that he may not be playing this week.
October 17th, 2011 at 12:46 PM
with that last name, he’s destined for hype and disappointment
October 17th, 2011 at 12:46 PM
MSU ain’t suspending him.

I see this mentioned as a reason quite a bit, but I don’t find it very legitimate. I don’t generally think that it is a good policy for a university to change their practices based on what a 17 year old kid thinks is cool.

I have heard this a bunch of times. Lots of guys like Oregon because of the uniforms it actually adds a benefit to the program.

LaMichael James has said that he was torn between A&M and Oregon, but Oregon’s uniforms pushed them over the top. Of course I suspect the Lyles dude had a bit of sway over where he ended up, though Chip Kelly doesn’t know anything about that.

But would you rather play behind some guy at Oregon just so you can look good in a uniform, or start at aTm?
October 17th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
I would think the B10 would be the one to do that, though.
October 17th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
agreed, there are several reasons to not want to go to atm, color of the uniform should be pretty low on the list.

I doubt it was the THE reason, though it may have A reason. I wouldn’t expect the guys in the booth to give a full recounting of something like that. They are just trying to fill broadcast time.
October 17th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
You may not have heard, but James does indeed play quite a bit for Oregon.
October 17th, 2011 at 12:49 PM
Oh, it was LaMichael James… nevermind… I thought it was some scrub. James probably wasn’t going to sit on the bench at Oregon.
October 17th, 2011 at 12:51 PM
maroon anything better than oregon’s smushmortion
i liked the big M on the chest for the ND game. and how about those packers throwbacks? didn;t mind the circel on the chest, but the pants and the brown helmets? cmon man
October 17th, 2011 at 12:52 PM
Both plays were dirty. I would be shocked if he’s suspensed. Not because he doesn’t deserve it, but that’s the way this business operates.
October 17th, 2011 at 12:54 PM
Considering Dantonio has a copy of the Bobby Bowden Handbook on Player Punishment, you are correct.
October 17th, 2011 at 12:57 PM
Brian Kelly thinks the mere mention the possibility of a suspension is bullshit.
