Jack McKeon Used To Lock The Clubhouse Door To Keep Josh Beckett In The Dugout During Games
It appears that Josh Beckett has a long and storied history of drinking beer during games which he is not the starting pitcher. Back in 2003 when the Marlins won the World Series, players like Beckett and Brad Penny would often head to the clubhouse for a drink or to good around.
“In between innings they’d go to the clubhouse to get a drink or hang out,’’ McKeon recalled this afternoon from his home in North Carolina.
“I said, ‘Hey, I got no rule against going up if you have to go to the bathroom or something, but get back.’ A couple of times I looked down the bench to talk to somebody and they weren’t there. They were in the clubhouse. So I went up and got them out and said, ‘OK, boys that’s it. We’ll lock the door.’”
McKeon resorted to locking the clubhouse door and giving out bathroom passes to players.

There’s a good chance there were more people in the club house than the stadium, if the games were in Miami.
