In Honor of Jim Leyland, Here’s 1991 Video Footage of the Then-Pirates Manager Dropping 21 F-Bombs on Barry Bonds
All, Barry Bonds, Baseball, Former Athletes, Video October 7th. 2011, 11:17am
Jim Leyland has the Detroit Tigers four wins away from the World Series, and in honor of the 68-year-old manager, here’s an old video of Leyland dropping (by my count) 21 f-bombs on Barry Bonds back in 1991 Spring Training. As much Yankee-bashing as I’ve been doing this morning, Leyland did a masterful managerial job against the Yankees. Throwing the best pitcher in the AL just once and winning three games? Impressive.

well, that was pretty awesome.

I applaud this post.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:28 AM
This post is even funnier if you image someone standing there in spring training holding one of these.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
Or imagine. That works too.

Fucking brilliant

You can’t question the badassedness of a professional coach that smokes butts during games.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
It’d be even better if he slow smoked a boston butt and then made some homemade potato salad.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:34 AM
Leyland is a throwback to a simpler time…when smoking was cool, everyone played baseball and a d-bag was berated.

The story behind this is even better. Apparently, Leyland was 3 fields away when he saw Bonds get into with Ray Miller (then the pitching coach). Leyland reportedly hauled ass over there just to lay into Bonds. I wish there was video of him jogging/sprinting across the fields at Bradenton just to bitch him out.

Probably one of the only people to ever step up to Bonds. Phenomenal.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:38 AM
I’ve never seen this and it’s frickin blocked at work, can’t wait to watch….

This video is glorious. Leyland is absolutely killing it here.
/Fuck Bonds

I agree. Municipal bonds are no longer the great investment they once were.

As am I. My dad is making a feast tomorrow and having the family over. Tomorrow can’t get here fast enough.

Where is the fucking “HOME” button?

I might be enjoying this video more because of how incredibly hungover I am. Last night was random as hell. Also, I might only be 25, but I can’t handle my hard drinking as well as I used to. I feel exhausted, I used to do this all the time.

I noticed that too. It’s gone, you have to click on the banner now.

One of the better leftovers you can have outside of pasta. There are worse things to eat, that’s for sure.

True. I’d say leftover Chinese is just behind cold pizza and just ahead of cold chicken in the leftover hierarchy.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:57 AM
I can’t do cold pizza. Wife loves the stuff, but I need that shit hot. However I will destroy some cold friend chicken.

My day tomorrow is going to be sleeping right until kickoff, enjoy my empty apartment for the night/day tomorrow. Then make poor decisions after I go for my run.

I am going to TX-OU tomorrow for the 33rd year in a row. I am also going to the Rangers-Tigers game tomorrow night. I plan on having my 1st beer at 8 (maybe 7) and a corndog at 9.
October 7th, 2011 at 12:04 PM
Holy shit. Impressive.

for those of you that are hungry – Monday is Canada’s Thanksgiving. I am jealous.

Leyland is only 68? Thought he might be 70 by now.
October 7th, 2011 at 12:22 PM
GREATEST VIDEO IN HISTORY. I love manager tirades. Also love those meek looking white guys who are just looking down the whole time.
October 7th, 2011 at 2:27 PM
Makes you hope for a Detroit-Miami World Series next year just for the daily Ozzie-Leyland awesomeness opportunities.
October 7th, 2011 at 2:29 PM
Leyland is only 68?
But that’s 68 in Keith Richard years, so he looks 88.
