Expensive show with terrible ratings, terrible reviews, and controversy with advertisers. Pretty easy to believe, actually.

I’ve been researching a little on the Marquis Jet card this morning. WANT.

I commend this website for not writing a Brett Favre post (yet)
October 5th, 2011 at 8:36 AM
You missed it the other day.
You know, as much as I’m down on Theo right now, it seems that they have at least admitted some of the mistakes they’ve made, and feel a little let down that Tito didn’t want to stick it out (per them… I still think they really didn’t want him).
The culture needs to change, Youk/Lackey are cancers, and Lester/Beckett need to get in shape. But if Theo/John Henry admitted they screwed up with signings and aren’t going to do it again, then I can’t think of anyone better than Epstein right now. If I was convinced they at least recognize and admit the problems at hand (it seems they do), then I would think they have the ability to fix them.

October 5th, 2011 at 8:40 AM
It just makes me really sad to an illogical degree to think of Pedey without his comic foil, Tito. I loved the SI story about them.
It’s always easier to get attached to team when there are hard-working, likeable, players/managers there. I really don’t want to root for a bunch of overpaid mercenary assholes. It’s the same reason I follow the minor leagues so closely… it’s nice to see ‘your’ guys succeed. If John Lackey pitched the Sox to a title this year, it’d be a good signing, but he still would just be a hired hand. Plus the whole hell-freezing-over thing would be really inconvenient for malpractice attorneys.

not to mention their headcoach. Mizzou is going to suck balls this year. good luck Haith.

pretty sure some parents group laid the full court press on them.
October 5th, 2011 at 8:45 AM

October 5th, 2011 at 8:45 AM
Your own link says : Despite having relatively tame content, the show wasn’t helped by conservative group the Parents Television Council vehemently protesting the show. The PTC released a statement saying they were pleased with the cancellation:
“Bringing The Playboy Club to broadcast television was a poor programming decision from the start. We’re pleased that NBC will no longer be airing a program so inherently linked to a pornographic brand that denigrates and sexualizes women … we hope other broadcasters heed the important lessons of this programming debacle.”

Nah, that post was about announcing… Im talking about his backhanded comments on Rodgers. Dude must be bored.
it was totally pathetic, for sure, and he was even able to take a ripe crap on his own 90′s packer teammates at the same time.
In all the defense of Favre I’ll even attempt, I’ll bet it came on about the 1000th time this year he’s been asked what he thought of Rodgers.
But still, to say that last year’s Packer team was/is more talented than the team he had for 2 years w/the Pack is pretty questionable, and pretty asshole-ish.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:06 AM
Probably not as many times as Rodgers has been asked about Favre.

that part of the relationship is over. Nobody asks Rodgers about Favre anymore. They ask him about defending the title, how badass he is, that stupid fucking belt, and who he’s putting his dick in.
Now it’s only media types trying to subjugate Favre for that story, and Favre, trying to stay relevant with shit like that interview.

I have zero new shows this year, and am already hopelessly behind. I tried four sitcoms (all garbage) and I quit at least one show I was watching. But not a single new television show interests me, although I’ll probably watch an episode or two of Homeland on Showtime, to see if I can get my mind changed/blown.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:10 AM
This…most ulcer-inducing game in a long time. I had to hit the green just to calm my nerves…
October 5th, 2011 at 9:10 AM

I can’t wait till Rodgers has more rings than Favre. Couple that with the way Favre ended his career and I wonder who gets the statue in front of the stadium first.

i’ve found a couple. “Strike Back” on Cinemax is pretty good. “homeland” looks good.
aside from that, nothing else is that great.
“Up all night” isn’t all that good, Maya Rudolph’s character is the worst part of the show.

I read an early review (either av club or sepinwall) that said it was hopelessly stupid, or words that I paraphrased into ‘hopelessly stupid.’
October 5th, 2011 at 9:15 AM
that bases loaded double play in the 8th was quite the kick to the balls. I’m still a bit confused about not pinch-hitting for Garcia in the 6th when the Cards had 2 on. Garcia doesn’t go late into game so his time was coming, and it seemed pretty clear that there weren’t going to be a ton of runs scored, got to take them when you can.
what time is the game today?
October 5th, 2011 at 9:15 AM
Bart Starr would get one before both of them, but I’m guessing they will keep that honor reserved for Vince and Curly.

Didn’t pick up new shows this year in my household. My wife is giving “Whitney” a shot. A bunch of neurotic women bitching about how insensitive their boyfriends are–as best as I can tell.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:16 AM
With the exception of maybe Desperate Housewives, shows that are overtly sexual don’t really work on Network TV (Coupling, some Swinger show on CBS, etc.).

I read an early review (either av club or sepinwall) that said it was hopelessly stupid, or words that I paraphrased into ‘hopelessly stupid.’
The first I heard of it was the TV guy in the KC Star yesterday. He said they only screened two episodes and the launch date had been delayed a few times, which is generally not good news for a show. He couldn’t get a read on how it turn out although he said it was violent. I’ll give it a shot.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:17 AM
Nope. Not in the least. If he does go though, the return package we get should include the Cubs taking on Lackey’s contract.

Colbert had the best comment last night about this. “The Playboy Club has been cancelled, apparently people were just interested in it for the articles”

I think TLR not taking out Garcia when Mayberry was the pinch hitter was surprising. Call it hindsight, but Mayberry has great numbers against lefties. I took joy in Ryan Theriot making the final out.

Hmm. I figured Starr would have one. That’s quality restraint, Green Bay! Respect.

Where’s ms621? The more I read up on this Knox story and her testimony, etc. the more I think she isn’t telling the whole truth.

“Up all night” isn’t all that good, Maya Rudolph’s character is the worst part of the show.
between her Oprah knockoff character, and Will Arnett (at all), I lasted half an episode.
My wife is giving “Whitney” a shot.
I saw two of these. That show is bad.
I didn’t hate the Hank Azaria one after one episode, but i knew I would after two episodes, so I stopped watching it.
And that one with the 24 daughter and the son of Damon Wayans, fuck that noise.

Yup, if you know how to use him no one can get near you.

He wasn’t nearly as cheap as backing someone into a corner with E Honda and using the thousand hand slap to destroy them.

October 5th, 2011 at 9:21 AM
CJ- seeing as how the Cubs are going to be bad for the next 3 years, Lackey’s contract wouldn’t be a problem. He might be OK in the NL too. Cubs need a veteran arm that eats innings anyways. They were throwing Doug Davis and Rodrigo Lopez this year.
If taking Theo nets us Tito, I’m all for it. Personally, I hope Tom Ricketts was on Andrew Friedman’s front lawn yesterday after the Rays lost with lobster takeout and a suitcase full of cash.

Suburgatory. Yep, it looks far and away to be the best new show of the season. But you’re right, it might get old if they just jam the same premise every week. Cheryl Hines’ character is fantastic, though.

October 5th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
My roommate DVR’d it. We watched it last week. It was average at best. The humor is very “amirite?” type of stuff. Elisha Cuthbert was the only thing keeping me involved. I won’t watch another episode though.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:32 AM
Has anyone seen “Happy Endings”? It looks hilarious, but I am reluctant to get involved.
that’s the one Rusty and I are talking about. The show really, really tries hard to be wacky (e.g. there’s a guy living in our ceiling one week, our gay friend isn’t gay enough to be a fag hag, so we import an even gayer guy for the spinster girl the next week, etc).
It is not a good show. I say this having seen every episode to this point.

Ha…I said to the guy I was watching the game with, “I hope to hell that Theriot isn’t turning into this year’s Cody Ross.”

Read on IMDB that Fox wants the Simpsons voice talent to take 50 percent pay cuts.
The Sipmsons is Dead Man Walking.
Sure, it lost its fastball, but it’s still better than the Seth McFarlane Fart Joke cartoon that will ultimately replace it.

I think tonight I’m going to drink to PBS’ Prohibition. I’ll watch some of the Phils-Cards game. With hockey season getting underway tomorrow, it’s probably best I don’t get involved in a TV show this fall.
I still have yet to watch any of Boardwalk Empire’s 2nd season.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
About sums it up.
Speaking of wackiness, Modern Family is venturing in that direction. That show is inching closer to being shit. I’ll still watch.
Clay: You ever give “Suits” a chance?
October 5th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
Mythbusters new season isn’t very good either. They’ve run out of ideas at this point and now the entire show is just one big attempt to fill an hour. Sucks, but it had a great run.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
I agree, but I am also glad that they didn’t stretch it out to long where I got sick of it. between me and a couple buddies we have all 3 seasons, probably start watching again once it’s cold and shitty out for 3 months.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
On a side note, my son goes to a school with a lot of attractive, young teachers.
So stuff like this is pretty much the only thing I have to look forward to once I have kids? The little things?
October 5th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
live studio audience, actually. But they laugh at the light that says “laugh,” not at the lousy jokes, and wacky circumstances.
they have a very consistent sounding laugh and timing, that whitney audience. either way, it sucks.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Not Clay, but I like Suits. Want to bash Bucky the Beaver (aka Louis Litt) in the face though. He’s too much of a two-dimensional douchebag. But I like the rest of the characters.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
I worship at the feet of Julie Bowen. I’ll keep watching too
October 5th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Francona offered managerial job.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
my annoying co-worked just walked into my office after I ripped a nasty fart and didn’t even bat an eye. fucking amazing as I was almost in tears.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
Clay: You ever give “Suits” a chance?
No, I never did. By the time you mentioned it, i had missed 3, and had 9 million pages of Game of Thrones reading to do (i’m still not finished either)
October 5th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
Me neither. I quickly skip over the comments on here if possible.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:42 AM
That’s adorable. 25% off at the burrito shop!
October 5th, 2011 at 9:42 AM
I saw the pilot on while flying a couple weeks ago. I thought it had promise. Was the rest of the season any good?
October 5th, 2011 at 9:42 AM
On a side note, my son goes to a school with a lot of attractive, young teachers.
My wife is a teacher and apparently there is a new male teacher in her school this year that has already gone through the Kindergarten (teachers) talent pool and is working on 1st grade now.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:42 AM
“Terra Nova” also pretty much stinks. I forgot about the second episode on Monday night, then I read Sepinwall’s tweet that said it was meh and the third episode will probably suck. It’s a shame Allison Miller’s sexy ass won’t be around long.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:43 AM
i just think they need to define her character. in the 2 or 3 episodes i’ve seen she has literally been a different person, and has no purpose other than to employ the lead character and provide the “monkey wrench” to their life.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:44 AM
I read a good article last night that said how their syndication deals are so old and out of date, they’re not making much money as one would think with that show, and the only way to get out is to stop making new episodes. If that happens, Fox is kicking around the idea of starting up a Simpsons channel.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:45 AM
My wife is a teacher and apparently there is a new male teacher in her school this year that has already gone through the Kindergarten (teachers) talent pool and is working on 1st grade now.
Isn’t that sort of frowned upon by HR? The dude really doesn’t give a fuck about the “don’t dip your pen in company ink” rule, eh?
October 5th, 2011 at 9:45 AM
Phils tonight and Flyers tomorrow. I love October.
Oh, FWIW, Boardwalk Empire has been ok thus far this season. I enjoy watching Dabney Coleman playing to type (i.e.– a villainous dickhead).
October 5th, 2011 at 9:45 AM
some of it is over the top lately, but i’d say it’s far, far from being shit. still the funniest show on TV.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:46 AM
they seem to only take scenes from movies and see if there is any truth to them. oh, and end big explosion.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:47 AM
Speaking of wackiness, Modern Family is venturing in that direction. That show is inching closer to being shit. I’ll still watch.
they’ve been out of 2 gay dad storylines since about the third episode of season 1. Those two guys are awful to have to see, even worse now that they got an asian toddler/tiara girl to talk.
And the creepy pedo in me wants to see the middle girl replaced with a prettier girl, immediately.
I just hope they never get so desperate for material that they head out to a dude ranch. Because that would really be awful.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:47 AM
Other than hospitality, I think education and medicine have the highest fuck your co-worker rates. Simply because in those two professions you essentially live with your co-workers. You’re around them more than you are your friends and family.

I thought all male elementary school teachers were gay.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:47 AM
I’m glad “The Walking Dead” returns on Oct. 16. It should be much tighter writing this season.
/nods at dirt and his inevitable hater comment
Also, fuck you, but I’m going to give “Once Upon a Time” a shot when it debuts on Sunday, Oct. 23.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:47 AM
Very good summer show. It’s not Breaking Bad, but it’s fun.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
still the funniest show on TV.
RIP Wilhelm’s sense of humor
October 5th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
The Fly Boys are the only game I get on TV tomorrow so I’ll be watching too. Have Laavy made his final cuts and did Schenn make the opening roster? What do the lines look like?
October 5th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
Other than hospitality, I think education and medicine have the highest fuck your co-worker rates.
Working in a big corporate law firm should be added to this. Those people never go home.
/used to work at a big firm

I”m going to watch. But don’t pretend it’s been good so far. I want it to be good, and I get really mad at the show only because it isn’t good.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:50 AM
The nurse I dated last summer told me that the place she worked was rife with infidelity because of the reasons you cited.
/lost her number after she shared this data
October 5th, 2011 at 9:50 AM
Oy.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:50 AM
I thought all male elementary school teachers were gay.
I think a lot are them are the equivalent of the straight guys in High School who join the drama club… less competition. They’re geniuses, really.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:51 AM
In my wife’s school district, a male HS teacher knocked up middle school teacher. They then had a shotgun wedding.
Oh, did I mention that he’s twice her age? Because he is.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:51 AM
I think education and medicine have the highest fuck your co-worker rates.
Large Accounting firms are similar, long hours seems to lead to trips to the ol’ broom closet.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
Darabont’s pilot was solid, but it had its holes in the subsequent episodes. He was all over the first half of season two, but it’s been Glen Mazzarra’s baby from about episode seven on (they’re still shooting). Beyond those six initial episodes, they didn’t have a clear direction for the show because of AMC’s commitment. I expect a better season two now that AMC is on board.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
anyone watch Alphas?
October 5th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
The family story line is what stinks. All the dinosaurs and the Team Six stuff is interesting.
I will be watching The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs edition on Oct. 30th. Alex Guarnaschelli is finally going to cook instead of just complain about everyone else’s cooking. I want to see if she’s any good.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
I thought all male elementary school teachers were gay.
He has found a loophole and is taking full advantage of it. Dude is divorced, in his mid-thirties and making the most of his new status. From the Christmas parties, I also assumed that they were all gay.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Watched the pilot. Thought it sucked. Never tuned back in. I’m pretty much over superpower shows with “average people.” In fact, superpowers are starting to wear thin on me.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
I expect a better season two now that AMC is on board.
on board with a split season. 6 episodes, a 2 month hiatus, and then 7 episodes. That ain’t cool.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
My understanding is that Schenn is starting in the AHL, but that is as much because of his shoulder injury (and maybe a slight wake up call) than anything else. Same thing happened to Giroux….the year he was expected to first make the team out of camp, they sent him to the AHL and he was back up, for good, around Christmas time.
Couturier is going to start the year with the big club, but I’d be really surprised if they kept him past his 10 game window. He’s good, but he’s reed thin.
Not sure on the lines, but I expect Jagr to play with Giroux. Also, Bob McKenzie called Matt Read a dark horse for the Calder trophy. I’m pretty excited to see what they look like tomorrow.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
any type of job that celebrates the end of a group business trip with happy hours and trips to the hotel bar. messed up.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
My understanding is that Schenn is starting in the AHL, but that is as much because of his shoulder injury (and maybe a slight wake up call) than anything else.
There is a clause in his contract that allows the Flyers to cut his cap hit nearly in half by playing him for 1 game in the AHL.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
i randomly selected an episode to watch On Demand a couple months ago. Didn’t know if it got any better than that.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
Sadly, they’re the central part of the show. Team Six or whatever is a cool idea, but the cynic in me thinks they should’ve introduced them later. Build tension with the main colony vs. that group through obscurity and mystery; don’t introduce them so quickly.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
any type of job that celebrates the end of a group business trip with happy hours and trips to the hotel bar. messed up.
When I met my wife, I was still in the Navy and was shocked that there was a profession out there that drank more than mine.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
it’s interesting how they’ve adapted the show from the graphic novel. they improved where it was weak, but I can see how people not familiar with the source material would find it lacking.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:57 AM
Having to deal with 30 children on a day to day basis? Genius might be a bit of a stretch.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
Eh, I know it sucks, but I’m OK with it. Networks usually give fans an episode like every other or three weeks from late November through mid-January. A clean break might be alright. Plus, at about the split in the season, that’s where Darabont left and Mazzarra took over.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM

I just can’t get over the idiocy of heading into a major populated area over and over again.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
everytime i travel to austin for business it’s during some type of sales training, those sales reps go crazy.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
Didn’t know that.
I do know the Flyers really like Couturier, though.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
My top 2: Breaking Bad, old episodes of Breaking Bad on my DVR.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:59 AM
CJ – you ended up with Humpty Hump on your fantasy team last night. I had a good chuckle.
October 5th, 2011 at 9:59 AM
Having to deal with 30 children on a day to day basis? Genius might be a bit of a stretch.
If you can handle kids? Summers off? Your choice of hot social studies teachers? I could think of worse professions. You’re not going to get into teaching if you’re impatient or can’t handle children.
October 5th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
I’m giving Ringer a chance, mostly because Sarah Michelle is my biggest weakness that walks the face of the Earth. The first 2 episodes were solid, but the 3rd started to feel soapy. Haven’t gotten to this week’s yet.
/Can’t believe I’m recording a CW show
October 5th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
If they hadn’t introduced them in the first episode I probably would have stopped watching after the pilot. I think the family story line is completely boring and stupid. The mom is annoying and the youngest daughter even moreso.
October 5th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
Didn’t know that.
Good summary here.
October 5th, 2011 at 10:01 AM
with the repeated trips to atlanta you mean?
yeah, i can get that. the one nice change from the graphic novel is they originally went into atlanta a couple times, then camped out until the winter before moving on.

No way. All social studies teachers are dudes. Counting my student teaching, I taught in 4 schools. I think each SS department had 2 chicks, tops. All the chicks teach English!
October 5th, 2011 at 10:04 AM
I know a few people who were fans of the graphic novel and they say the show is almost nothing like the graphic novel. One guy said they made the characters on the tv show into gigantic pea brained idiots. After seeing the first season, I would have to agree with him.
October 5th, 2011 at 10:07 AM
Havent looked yet, to whom are you referring?
October 5th, 2011 at 10:08 AM
If it’s not a “fire the GM” post, I’m not interested.
/yes, I know who the GM is
October 5th, 2011 at 10:08 AM
it would be a lot cooler if you could bang your hot co-workers in the teachers lounge. I’m assuming that is frowned upon.
October 5th, 2011 at 10:10 AM
I had one female social studies teacher from 9th to 12th grades. My hottest teacher was my Algebra 2 teacher in 10th grade. No idea how that happened.
October 5th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
I’m with you on introducing them in the pilot, but not in that manner. Say there is a group of rogue dissidents, a colony who broke off, but don’t give them faces and don’t let them interpersonally interact with our colonists. Make them some mysterious, subtle group at the edge of the jungle.
October 5th, 2011 at 10:12 AM
Sarcasm, or not, I will not allow SMG to be defamed in any way.
