I don’t want to hear anything about the 2007 Mets if the paragraph does not begin with “In 2011, the Boston Red Sox….”
September 29th, 2011 at 8:21 AM
Can i still make fun of Jose Reyes?
September 29th, 2011 at 8:22 AM
I have a friend down in Tampa who is a diehard Rays fan and loves DP. She filled my inbox with profane text messages directed at Price.

Will Boston media bring Buckner heat to Crawford today?

I can still say all I want as a Phillies fan, because the Red Sox didn’t impact my team at all. 102 wins, suck it Mets fans.

Does what happened in baseball this month officially take the 1987 Blue Jays off the radar? They had a smaller lead BUT held a 4 game lead with 7 games to go.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:24 AM
Can we all, as a nation, just get back to hating the Yankees now?

Not sure what it says about the US that To Kill a Mockingbird is number 21 and Gossip Girl (The Series) is number 22.

Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think the ’87 Jays were on too many Americans’ radar.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:25 AM
with certain yankee fans here (not naming names….SC and jersey), it’s very easy to hate the yankees.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:25 AM
As long as it’s for sitting out. If it was easy to bunt for hits, everyone would do it. But, sitting out after the first hit is weaksauce.

The Orioles have been relevant over the last few weeks. It would be nice to see them back in the mix.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:28 AM
What a coincidence, I have been hearing this sound in my head for the past month
September 29th, 2011 at 8:28 AM

September 29th, 2011 at 8:32 AM
Much worse that the actual Yankee PLAYERS cheered the O’s win like they just clinched something, when it wouldve been better off having the Sox plays the Rays today so the WC winner wouldnt have a day off going to the postseason. Fucking hate that team more than ever.

The Orioles have been relevant over the last few weeks. It would be nice to see them back in the mix.
as an Orioles fan, i can say this with confidence, they are a long way from being back in the mix. they need an identity, 2-3 starting pitchers, and to learn how to play 162 games. and while i really like this years lineup, i don’t see any of those three things happening next year.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:36 AM

Fortunately fir you ESPN is not based in Hamilton
September 29th, 2011 at 8:36 AM
nope. yankee players should hate the sox team and take joy in their failure. rooting for your rival is pathetic. sox handle their business, they live to play another day regardless of the outcome of the yanks/rays.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:36 AM

September 29th, 2011 at 8:41 AM
I already got my shots in last night. I just want to watch today. I want to bathe in the Red Sox fans misery. I want to watch them try so desperately to rationalize their failure only to know that deep down, they FINALLY feel like they did before 2004.
Boston has returned to ineptitude.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:41 AM
Mind. Blown.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:41 AM
Orioles guys, are you as skeptical about Showalter as a GM as I am? Maybe he’s good, but I don’t think there’s any evidence to go off. It would be a big gamble.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:43 AM
Winning is what is best for their team. They would still be playing. They didn’t do that. If the Yankees ended up winning, it was gravy.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:43 AM

I agree — it does not seem like a recipe for success. On the other hand, who wants to work for Angelos who would be any better? The owner needs to go so they can start over.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:45 AM
Can we get a new owner as well?
i gave up on that pipe dream.
Orioles guys, are you as skeptical about Showalter as a GM as I am? Maybe he’s good, but I don’t think there’s any evidence to go off. It would be a big gamble.
not really. when you go 10+ years with a mediocre lineup you’ll try anything, no matter how big the gamble.
i think Buck will be good for the younger players on the team. more than anything though, the O’s need a pitching coach. they CAN NOT develop a fucking arm.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:45 AM
Well, it’s definitely an underrated choke. Blowing a 4 game lead in the final week of the season is pretty bad. That extrapolates out to blowing a 16 game lead in a month…double what the Sox and Braves did.

Oriole announcer says ball is hit in right field, when it was in left field. Must be related to Chip
September 29th, 2011 at 8:46 AM
This is never coming off my radar. I still hold on to a special hatred for Bill Madlock. My 8 year-old self was crushed for the better part of a month by that collapse.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:48 AM
On the other hand, who wants to work for Angelos who would be any better?
you know what though… Buck seems like the Shanny to Dan Snyder. He’s established, confident and controlling. maybe this is the optimist in me, but maybe Angelos is going to give Buck the reins and let him run the team like Snyder seems to be doing with Shannahan in Washington.
September 29th, 2011 at 8:49 AM
Almost as underrated as the 2011 Braves.

Maybe — I guess I just don’t know if Showalter could wear that many hats and be successful. Agree 100% on the need for a competent pitching coach/system, though.

only after papelbon gets the blame for pitching like shit at the very end.
but that won’t happen. it should though.
September 29th, 2011 at 9:05 AM
I would think that it has to help, at least a little. the way they were playing in August the whole team looked dead in the water. what they did the last month of the season was nothing short of spectacular, especially with that pitching staff. I really never thought he was going anywhere in the first place, but making the playoffs does help. they had marginal success against the Phillies this year too, although them winning that series seems like a reach.

different for everyone. i know people who sweat sitting down, when they exercise they need more to drink.
also noticed a marked difference when i run in the mid morning with only a glass of water versus hydration throughout the day and running in the evening. i do better at the end of my run when hydrating consistantly throughout the day.
September 29th, 2011 at 9:12 AM
He’s gone, right? I cant wait to see what its like to root against him, I’m sure it’ll be easy.
September 29th, 2011 at 9:13 AM
yeah, he still deserves the blame though, way more than crawford does. that ball isn’t hit in play if he pitches better.

hmmm…not sure if it’s racially motivated, but i do think crawford is taking too much heat. lackey is historically bad. never has a contending team had such a bad starting pitcher in their rotation all year. if crawford is overpaid, what does that make lackey????
