Philadelphia Media Wars Have Gotten Increasingly Hostile: Jeff McLane and Les Bowen Threw Fists and Asante Samuel Chimed In
Ding! Ding!
Remember that “Mike Vick likely to play” story from Tuesday? It was penned by Jeff McLane of the Inquirer. A writer at the Daily News, Les Bowen, tried to mock McLane on twitter, claiming his story was poppycock. McLane exploded at him for being an “old hack and not “breaking a story in years.” [I can't get into all the minutiae; but Crossing Broad, which has been flooding the zone with coverage of this story, has everything, in case the best tweets were deleted.]
Today at practice, Bowen reportedly took a swing at McLane, and it cause such a ruckus that Asante Samuel was joking about it – loudly – in the locker room.
All that’s missing here is the Rocky music. [Samuel video via Crossing Broad]

Following both McLane and Bowen on Twitter for a long time, I don’t think Bowen meant that initial comment about Vick starting as a personal jab at McLane.
It’s also not the first time McLane has had a temper tantrum on Twitter. At all.

Could be wrong about the first part, though.

Terrible news for the US, and even worse for bottom-of-the-table Bolton.

Terrible news for him, and the ninja turtles.

This is glorious. All of it.

I like McLane, but he has seemingly VERY thin skin.
Bowen has a long reputation in Philly of being pretty low key and fair (he was the Flyers beat writer for a long time before getting the Eagles beat).
Lighten up, Jeff.
September 28th, 2011 at 4:46 PM
That’s not Bowen’s style to do that. At all.
September 28th, 2011 at 4:46 PM
Asante is the NFL’s Ryan Kesler?

And Bob Sanders has been placed on IR.
Somewhere, a certain ex-commenter sheds a single, meaningful tear.
September 28th, 2011 at 4:58 PM
Eskin came to my high school in South Jersey to hand out our All-Sports award our senior year to one of my classmates, in our school’s courtyard, like 15 of us stood in the hallway and booed Eskin, he stormed out, refused to come back to HMHS ever again, and called us all classless. Needless to say, it made our day.
Eskin is a troll.
