The Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings played a preseason game tonight at the Labatt Centre in Ontario. The game went to a shootout where the Red Wings won 4-3. One of the Flyers who took part in the shootout was Wayne Simmonds, one of the few black guys in the NHL. Obviously, the move here was for some idiot to throw a banana at Simmonds. He scored and that’s all that he wants to focus on. From Broad Street Bull:

“I’ve never had a banana thrown at me before. That’s a first for me,” he said. “I guess it’s something I obviously have to deal with – being a black player playing a predominantly white sport. I’ve grown a lot playing in this league and throughout my whole life. I’m not going to dwell on that. It’s over with now.”
