You Will Hear About 2-0 or 0-2 Teams This Week, But How Your Team Played Is What Matters
You’ll hear lots of references to how frequently or infrequently a team makes the playoffs when they start 2-0 or 0-2. For example, since the league went to the current 8 division format in 2002, there were 79 teams that started 2-0, and conversely, 79 teams that started 0-2. 58.2% of the teams that started 2-0 eventually made the playoffs, while only 10.1% of the teams that started 0-2 made it. (41.5% of 1-1 teams made it).
This isn’t a coin flip situation where we just randomly went heads or tails, and the unlucky 0-2 team is suddenly far less likely to make the playoffs because they happened to lose those two games and will narrowly miss out on crucial tiebreakers they lost in the first two games. No, the reason most 0-2 teams miss the playoffs is because they stink.
I went through all the 0-2 starters to see what would happen if we magically bequethed upon them two undeserved victories, but kept the underlying performance of the team in the remaining 14 games the same. You want to know how many of those 71 teams that started 0-2 and then missed the playofffs would have made the playoffs if we had magically given them a 2-0 record instead?
Eleven. Eleven of Seventy-One. And that assumes we give them a 2-0 record with all the tiebreakers that came with those wins, and not just a 1-1 record. So, the problem with the 0-2 start is not just the losses, it’s what they represent. Similarly, the biggest thing with the 2-0 start is if it really does represent a team that is playing well and likely to continue.
Later, I’m going to go through both the 2-0 teams that missed the playoffs since 2002, and the 0-2 starters that made it, to see what they shared. For now, I can sum it up by saying that the better you play, as measured by how you play and accounting for who you play, the better off you are going forward.
The problem with the 0-2 start is not the mark in the column, it’s the play on the field. Four divisions are currently led by a 1-1 team. That means that over half (pending the outcome of tonight’s game) of the 0-2 teams are only 1 game out of the division lead, and nobody is more than 2 games out, often with all the head to head games against division leaders remaining. Kansas City is only 1 game behind San Diego, Oakland, and Denver, and hasn’t lost to any of them yet. From that perspective, they are fine. The issue is that the Chiefs are likely to keep losing based on the evidence of getting blown out twice, not that they happen to have the maximum 2 losses in the column now.

First half: Vikings 34, Opponents 7
Second half: Opponents 41, Vikings 3
Are you saying I should be worried?
September 19th, 2011 at 10:45 AM
there’s quite a few teams that are 0-2 who already know their season is over. It’s moral victories from here on out. And for one or two of those, there may not even be any moral victories.
Minnesota’s season effectively ended yesterday. Dallas’s almost did.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:46 AM
has gotta be depressing for 0-2 teams. thing is, none of the 0-2 teams are even remotely good (Carolina’s probably the best one)
somehow, i don’t think the 0-2 seahawks are making the playoffs.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:46 AM
I look forward to reliving the memory of the 2003 Vikings
I’m not full on panic mode about the Packer defense yet but if they can’t get pressure on Jay Cutler there’s real trouble brewing…hopefully Tramon Williams will be able to go as I assume Nick Collins will be out for a little bit
September 19th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
i feel bad for the chiefs and the colts.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:48 AM
It’s a bad year to suck considering how bad Seattle and KC are. They’re 1-2 in some order at the top of the draft. I just hope the Vikings get a left tackle. Charlie Johnson’s “ole!” bullshit has already wore thin.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:49 AM

Yeah, missing a top corner like Williams will hurt the pass defense, especially when there is a big dropoff after he and Woodson.
Baltimore was missing 2 of their top 3 corners yesterday, and that “upset” and Matt Hasselbeck’s big day are tied to that.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
The quintessential Mike Tice season. What a clown. And I’m absolutely expecting the same sort of season from the Lions.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:49 AM

Carolina’s got somebody to root for. I can’t believe how big that kid still looks. In college, he looked like a high school kid on an eighth grade team. He still looks big.
I only saw some red zone-y parts of that game, at the end, though.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
I guess the Rams or Giants will be the best 0-2 team after tonight.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:50 AM
Charlie Johnson’s “ole!” bullshit has already wore thin.
that has to be the worst free agent signing I have ever heard of. Let’s sign the awful, out of position LT of the Colts, who have a bad offensive line to start with.

I’ll go in more detail, but yeah, Carolina is the only one that I think can make a move. Not all the way to the playoffs, but I think this will be a dangerous team that could get to 7 wins. It’s not like they sucked before the black hole of Jimmy Clausen and Matt Moore last year, and they’ve lost two games where they were tied in the 4th.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
You think so? It’s not like they were bad yesterday. If this is essentially see who can finish second to GB race in the North, they still have all their division games left.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
lol @ ole bullshit

i feel bad for the chiefs and the colts.
colts? gtfo! that organization has been spoiled for almost a decade while teams like the browns and skins have SUCKED!
i feel bad for no one.
2-0 baby! HTTR!
September 19th, 2011 at 10:52 AM
You think so?
that’s why I typed it into my computer. Because I thought it.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:52 AM
And it screws up their scheme so much since Woodson then can’t be placed in the slot where he can make a ruckus of things…Sam Shields needs to accelerate his development, at least with the Bears their only receiving threat is Matt Forte so the linebackers just have to make sure they tackle well
September 19th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
I hardly think you could stand by the assertion that you believed everything you’ve commented here.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
You think so? It’s not like they were bad yesterday. If this is essentially see who can finish second to GB race in the North, they still have all their division games left.
Minnesota’s problem is not being able to pick up any first downs to hold a lead in the second half. They are just good enough to win close on defense, and bad enough to lose more than they win. They aren’t out of it, but I don’t like their prospects with bad tackle play and no receivers that get separation.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
They can still run the ball, that’s for damn sure. And Gerhart looks 10 times quicker/faster this year. But their WRs don’t amount to shit, their o-line can’t pass protect worth a damn, and their secondary might be the worst in the league. I’ll take both the Bears and Lions over them right now.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
I hardly think you could stand by the assertion that you believed everything you’ve commented here.
but I almost certainly had to think it before I typed it.
And they got come back on by Tampa, at home. And they’re QB’ed by the aged (opposite of ageless) Don McNabb. They’re done-zo.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
You didn’t know Sam Shields in college. It is a cot damn miracle he has evne made it this far.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
i feel bad for them because ive seen this 2011 colts movie before…the 2010 cavs. it’s an ugly, ugly, depressing time for a sports fan in that situation.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
If Carolina had a mediocre defense they could win their division. I’m honestly very surprised at how well Cam Newton is playing. Totally thought he was going to be a bust. Now I know why Auburn paid him his money.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
Let’s Go Buffalo! Even if they are 2-1 after the patriots game, I feel good because the team actually gives a shit and fights hard. I was super impressed that the Bills scored touchdowns on all 5 2nd-half possessions. Weeeeeeeeeeeee!
September 19th, 2011 at 10:56 AM
I don’t want to overreact too much, but GB’s D looked shaky yesterday. Let’s not give them the division just yet.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:56 AM
You didn’t know Sam Shields in college. It is a cot damn miracle he has evne made it this far.
From what I’ve read the coaches in Miami didn’t do much coaching of Shields. Packer’s assistants were amazed at how little he knew about defense.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:56 AM
I’m taking my talents to the injured list!
September 19th, 2011 at 10:56 AM
i dunno bout that…saints are REALLY good.
but yea…im surprised as hell newton’s looked liek he has.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:57 AM
see buffalo? you get rid of awful unis and get really great ones and look what happens. what a fun offense to watch.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:57 AM
How does Harbaugh look his team in the eye after admitting that he doesn’t trust his offense not to fuck things up after getting that leaping penalty? Even if they ran off another 2-3 minutes off the clock and kicked the FG again their chances at winning go up dramatically…one of the worst coaching decisions I’ve ever seen
September 19th, 2011 at 10:57 AM
true. LeBatard talked about that last season in his rightful demolition of the Dolphins coaching staff and management
September 19th, 2011 at 10:57 AM
The really bad penalties aren’t helping. But yeah, they killed a whopping 2 minutes after Tampa scored to make it 20-17.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:58 AM
The Bills have not had this kind of offense since the Kelly era. They just slice and dice you. Fred Jackson and Stevie Johnson are just beasts.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:58 AM
i feel bad for them because ive seen this 2011 colts movie before…the 2010 cavs. it’s an ugly, ugly, depressing time for a sports fan in that situation.
it’s an ugly and depressing time whenever you’re stuck in indianapolis.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:58 AM
true. LeBatard talked about that last season in his rightful demolition of the Dolphins coaching staff and managemen
Well I was talking about the ‘canes. But I suppose the Dolphins and ‘canes would make excellent partners in ineptitude.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:58 AM
im surprised as hell newton’s looked like he has.
he threw three picks, and got sacked on the final three offensive plays, but he wasn’t panicking. I expected him to get his block knocked off, a lot.
And I didn’t expect those pretty 55 yard lob balls he throws to end up completions at this level.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:59 AM
No, they’re really not.
September 19th, 2011 at 10:59 AM
my mistake. I was thinking of someone else on the Dolphins. Yes, Sam Shields was average at best at the U
September 19th, 2011 at 10:59 AM

I don’t know about ‘the worst’, but it is certainly a fine example of a coach outcoaching himself. He got a little too smart for his own good after that penalty on the field goal.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
exactly. and the only place to turn for comfort is food.
/looks at fast food companies well represented in the indianapolis area
//buys a lot of their stock

I disagree.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
it’s an ugly and depressing time whenever you’re stuck in indianapolis.
because of how flat it is, and how little culture it has? And because your scientist/doctor parents told you not to like it?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
the bears offensive line makes the Saints look really good.
/pours one out for Cutler’s ligaments
September 19th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
This is fucking stupid. Also, Cam has looked great, but he threw the ball 46 (or 48) times yesterday. You aren’t winning games with a rookie chucking it around like that. I don’t understand why they can’t run the ball, but if they keep asking Cam to throw it 35+ times a game they won’t win shit.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
Newton’s mistakes are pretty typical of rookie QBs, when the pressure was getting there (which happened disturbingly rarely) he’d rush his throws and from what I could tell (I’m no Jaworski here) wasn’t setting his feet well…once he gets that figured out, yikes
September 19th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
you’re basing that off of losing a close game to arguably the best team in the NFL on the road?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
one of the worst coaching decisions I’ve ever seen
declining the ball after winning the OT toss will always be the worst.

I disagree.
now you’re not only stupid and wrong, you’re stupid, wrong, and stubborn.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:01 AM
They’re a top-10 NFL team without a doubt.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:01 AM
Spencer, did you see the tweet I made to you? I caught that image while watching ESPN’s fantasy show. They didn’t mention Joe Thomas and I was like really, I’m pretty sure that’s the reason Hillis runs better to the left.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:01 AM
? Obviously you have never been. Safe, clean and a shit ton to do downtown. Plus the final 4 every couple of years and the Super Bowl this year.
/haters gonna hate
September 19th, 2011 at 11:02 AM
I was thinking about this yesterday and it came down to that or Barry Switzer in that game against the Eagles in ’95 going for it twice on 4th down in Philly territory and failing…but at least he had Emmitt Smith to provide for the rationale employed
September 19th, 2011 at 11:02 AM
oh man, after the Patriots, the Bills get the Bengals, Eagles, and Giants. I’m smelling 4-2 or 5-1 if Michael Vick doesn’t play
/wanking
//setting up for a letdown
September 19th, 2011 at 11:02 AM
Welll…he was recruited as a WR at Miami. And then it was discovered he couldn’t catch. He was moved to DB his senior year but as an afterthought. He just played a lot on special teams. I’m assuming the Packers signed him as an UDFA because they saw how fast he was at MIami’s pro day. That’s why he knew nothing.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
geoff…yep, saw it. and yesterday on hillis’ TD run, joe thomas opened the hole by shoving the DE down the line like he was a CB. he’s awesome.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
I don’t like their prospects either. But they still get the rest of the AFC West having already played the Chargers, and all their division games. The division looks good, obviously. But if the Vikings get better O-line play they could get interesting, anyway.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
September 19th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
Double Whammy this week.
Browns beat the Colts.
Heading to Cleveland on Thursday to visit friends.
/As bad as I feel sometimes, it could always be worse.
//I could live in Cleveland.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
Detroit has hosted a super bowl. Just sayin’.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
It wouldn’t surprise me if the Raiders make the playoffs instead of the Chargers. That offense is no fucking joke.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
Were they overly blitzing him and leaving one on one coverage on the outside? That is what Arizona did and got burned for it.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
declining the ball after winning the OT toss will always be the worst.
/Morhinweg’d
What he said.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
LOL at Jarret Bush in coverage. He was downright lost on most of the routes yesterday.
Pack’s run d has improved a lot, but they haven’t been able to get much pressure on the quarterback. A lot to ask of the secondary especially against Cutler this week.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:05 AM
I was thinking about this yesterday and it came down to that or Barry Switzer in that game against the Eagles in ’95 going for it twice on 4th down in Philly territory and failing…but at least he had Emmitt Smith to provide for the rationale employed
Barry Sanders would’ve gotten it.
/opens can of worms
September 19th, 2011 at 11:05 AM
Nuh uh!
Yeah, that’s not happening.
I honestly feel bad for Adrian Peterson. I mean, besides the whole making millions of dollars thing, he’s wasting away his prime years on this crappy team. He requires at least 3 guys to bring him down every single run, incredible to watch.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:06 AM
Over/Under on AP rushing yards next week is 100. I’ll take the under.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:06 AM
I honestly feel bad for Adrian Peterson. I mean, besides the whole making millions of dollars thing, he’s wasting away his prime years on this crappy team.
Rare is the opportunity to use the same meme in back to back comments, but here it is: Barry Sanders definitely agrees. So perhaps we can expect Peterson to retire with a few years of his prime still left.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:06 AM
That’s overblowing it. Downtown Indy is not horrible. It’s not spectacular but not horrible.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:07 AM
i love guys like that. peterson was a hoss yesterday. peyton hillis was too…just fun shit watching an RB give three or four guys a five yard ride.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:07 AM
I love the fact that Chris Johnson in Tennessee is sucking right now. Take the hold out and shove it, douchebag
September 19th, 2011 at 11:07 AM
All your wanting of Fitzgerald to leave Arizona because he was wasting away last year has come full circle.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:07 AM
Kinda, Steve Smith got the best of Woodson a few times but a lot of the yardage came on underneath stuff to the backs and utilizing the tight ends
September 19th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
tj, I dont know if I was supposed to do this or not, but I was cheering out loud for the Bills yesterday. Got home right as the 4th quarter started and was thoroughly entertained. Fitz to Nelson on 4th down to win it? Onions.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
carson palmer suggests retiring but leaving a window open to screw your ex-team’s salary cap situation.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
Yeah, because the Lions will be up 21-0 with 8 minutes left in the first half, and he’ll get like 5 carries the rest of the game.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
it was held on the street where jerome bettis was raised, wasn’t it?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
First of all, your view of the Packers is ridiculously skewed. Second of all, I watched the game against the Bears yesterday (unlike you, apparently). Their defense is not good. Their running game is pretty average. Sure, they have Drew Brees but he had some issues yesterday with protection.
We’re in week fucking 2 of the season. The Packers have played two close games with two bad defenses. Let’s hold off on crowning them the 2011-2012 champions until we make it through the season, ok? Same with the fucking Lions. It sure didn’t take their fans long to start talking mad shit. Be happy but be humble. 0-16 wasn’t 10 years ago, fuckers.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:09 AM
Dear Raiders,
While I am glad your defense let Buffalo do anything they wanted yesterday, I would appreciate if you could utterly destroy Mark Sanchez next weekend in the Black Hole. Thanks a bunch!
September 19th, 2011 at 11:09 AM
Everyone should root against the Raiders, except for this Sunday when they host the Jets.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:10 AM
Dammit. He is exactly what the offense needs too, I’d take a guy with half of his skills at this point. Hell, call up Marcus Robinson, or any wideout over 6’2″.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:10 AM
+1 Jim Nantz
September 19th, 2011 at 11:10 AM
Did you experience the Millen reign of terror and tears?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:10 AM
Sure, they have Drew Brees but he had some issues yesterday with protection.
would “some issues” also go by the name Strief, and be a fat white guy wearing 64?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:11 AM
yea, i didn’t watch NO/bears.
who cares if their running game is average? DREW BREES. it’s a passing league.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:11 AM
First of all, your view of the Packers is ridiculously skewed.
Saying a 2-0 team coming off winning a super bowl is arguably the best team in the NFL is skewed how? Sure, the Packers might have some issues, but lets wait until they lose a game before you start with that.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:11 AM
You realize this is the internet?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:12 AM
So your contention is to hold off on football conversation until the season’s over? I hope this isn’t a plea to have more threads involve baby animal links instead
September 19th, 2011 at 11:12 AM
I’m honestly enjoying the Lions fans right now, they’re like that kid who gets the Nintendo 64 on Christmas morning. It won’t last though, those skill player guys are bound to get hurt and their schedule gets a lot tougher in Nov/Dec
September 19th, 2011 at 11:12 AM
Raiders have my favorite uniform in the NFL. Especially their road whites. Sharp.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:13 AM
someone say baby animal links?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:13 AM
I haven’t seen any Lions fans talking shit.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:14 AM
Seriously. The days of “keep a balanced offense” are over. If you have a Brees/Rodgers/Brady/Peyton/Rivers, you’re throwing 40-50 times a game. Those guys are so good, you don’t need a running game.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:14 AM
And because your scientist/doctor parents told you not to like it?
you should know i’m too stoopid to come from those kinda genes, so yes, it’s b/c the city is 1000 miles from an ocean and/or anything fun outdoors to do besides cut grass.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
I haven’t seen any Lions fans talking shit.
I haven’t either really. KC is terrible.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:16 AM
But what about the teams that started 1-1, or the other teams that started 1-1?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:16 AM
a WR would be nice, but McNabb would still be around throwing like an asshole. I’m really hoping that they give Webb a chance at some point. I realize it is probably pointless, but if they pull this McNabb shit all year I will be pretty pissed.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
Way late to the thread but Butters, worry not. The Packers will get plenty of pressure on Jay Cutler next week. The offensive line played as bad as I’ve ever seen it play with Jay under center yesterday. If Carimi is hurt, the Bears are fucked. Not because of pass protection either. Because they can’t run the ball to the right side if he’s out.
Without balance, the Bears are totally fucked. Not entirely up to speed on the Saints defensive front, but when the Bears stopped running, the Saints were sending 5 to 6 guys EVERY PLAY.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
KC is really really bad. And who cares if Lions fans are a little excited right now. We’ve gone through a decade of pure shit.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
The Buffalo-Oakland game just looked awesome with those two uniforms involved
I think the Packers could actually be more of a rushing team if they wanted to, Rodgers even mentioned as much in the postgame presser yesterday…if nothing else Starks provides a guy they can use to run clock in the 4th quarter as opposed to last season where it seemed like the defense always had to make a last minute stop to finish up the game
September 19th, 2011 at 11:18 AM
Didn’t everyone experience it indirectly? That should be a humbling experience. Be happy your team has played two bottom feeders and won without Stafford getting hurt. Don’t be assholes bragging about a 2-0 start when you haven’t played a top 15 team.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:18 AM
So frustrating that when he gets more than 2 seconds to throw, he either spikes it into the ground or sails it 10 feet over everyone’s head.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:19 AM
I think we often make the mistake of thinking players are always going to be what they are now. The Vikings O-line may be terrible right now, and maybe they will continue to be. But maybe not, too.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:19 AM
I didn’t catch the second half of the Texans game but it seems like they continue to only play one half of football per game.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:19 AM
I haven’t seen any Lions fans talking shit
They can’t talk shit because they’re still coughing up all the shit forced down their throats under the Millen Reign of Torpor.

September 19th, 2011 at 11:20 AM
KC is really really bad. And who cares if Lions fans are a little excited right now. We’ve gone through a decade of pure shit.
Yeah.. I’m sorta pulling for the Lions. I hope their not the NFL’s version of the Pirates this year. It’s a shame they have to play the Packers on thanksgiving and lose again. Would have been nice to see them play someone else and get a nationally televised win.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:20 AM
I am FAR more happy for the Buffalo Bills than I am for the Lions. Also, the SNF segment with Costas telling us that the Bills, Lions and Tigers will help “save” Detroit and Buffalo was a bit much. It’s still sports. Nice distraction for those respective cities, but come on now.
Detroit has a good sports team and has for like 15 years now. They can’t even sell out playoff games for the Wings!
September 19th, 2011 at 11:20 AM
I expect the Lions to win next week. I wouldn’t call that “bragging.” I’m sure if you polled everyone on this site. The majority would feel the same way.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:20 AM
Don’t be assholes bragging about a 2-0 start when you haven’t played a top 15 team.
/checks Skins’ schedule
wohoooo! 2-0, bitches! we’re the tits!
September 19th, 2011 at 11:21 AM
The guys from last year have the exact same problems. Hutchinson can run-block like a beast but blitzers blow right by him, John Sullivan is a joke at center, Loadholt is a turnstile (when he’s not getting flagged for another false start) and Charlie Johnson is who we think he is. At least Ryan Cook is gone.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:22 AM
Michael Turner just said in an interview that each thigh is 36 inches around. Think about that.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:22 AM
Yeah, don’t have the audacity to be happy that our team has won the first 2 games of the year (and the last 4 in 2010). Fans can only be happy when your team beats a good team….got it? So, shut up until the schedule says you can speak. In fact, no more damned NFL posts until the Jets beat somebody of note.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:22 AM
Again, I haven’t seen anyone being an asshole.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:22 AM
Giants fan friend went to the Ralph yesterday. I want the Bills to be good, but he and I always joke about how easily Bills fans get overexcited.
“As we were leaving the stadium yesterday I just kept screaming SUPER BOWL BABY!! and high-fiving people.”
September 19th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
Sure, they have Drew Brees but he had some issues yesterday with protection.
/ would “some issues” also go by the name Strief, and be a fat white guy wearing 64?
I would laugh, but it’s too painfully true.
Saints went from Stinchcomb to Stinkbomb at RT.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
If they can squeak out a couple of wins that Rex Grossman tries to give the other team they may actually play meaningful football in November.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
Michael Turner just said in an interview that each thigh is 36 inches around. Think about that
Psshaww… That’s 4 inches bigger than my waist. Big deal.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
More like 20 years. And can I get a link for the whole not selling out a playoff game? It may be true. But when your team goes to playoffs every year, perhaps some fans don’t wanna pay good money to go see the Coyotes in the dump known ass Joe Louis Arena.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
ill – I didn’t see any of the Skins game but how did Rex play yesterday? Hightower looks like he had a helluva game.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:24 AM

Yeah… I don’t know if they’re aware of this or not.. but they do play in the same division as the pats and jets… going to be really hard for them to get into the playoffs.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
Talk about football all you want. My problem is everyone’s so quick to say “_______ is winning the super bowl this season” in week 2. It’s ridiculous. I don’t give a shit what a team did last year. It’s a new season. You play the games now, not in the past.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:25 AM

i’m fucking praying that landry can play next monday night. otherwise, romo and co are going to torch doughty all night.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
Good god, the screenshot of Larry Merchant up there makes him look like the Heaven’s Gate guy.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:26 AM
I don’t expect the Bills to make the playoffs. I am happy that they are competitive and have a great offense right now. It’s a totally different mindset than the team has had the past 10-15 years. If they finished 8-8 or 9-7, Buffalo will be ecstatic.
Fuck the Jets
September 19th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
ESPN Classic tells me otherwise.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
steroids
September 19th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
Marshall Applewhite, FTL!
September 19th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
Ryan Fitzpatrick is easily the 2nd best quarterback in the AFC East.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
Nobody said that, dude. Spence just said the Saints are “really good” and most people agree.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
My facebook is FILLED with Lions fans talking shit. My own fucking boyfriend talks shit to me about the Lions.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
You’ll make lots of friends around here with a philosophy like that.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:28 AM
Would you like to read an article about a choke artist QB in week one or a story of redemption and bravery in the face of disaster in week two?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:28 AM
Packers, “dude.” Packers.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:28 AM
Fair enough. But you’re a bears fan. You deserve to have some shit thrown your way.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
SC – he wasn’t as good as week 1, but made a couple nice throws when he needed to (big 4th down TD throw to moss). he gets a shit ton of balls tipped at the line and HATES having too much time to throw. seems like he makes his best throws when he’s slightly pressured and gets rid of it quick.
hightower and helu looked good. not sure why kyle shanny got away from the run in the 2nd half.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
There is really no reason to talk shit if one is a Lions fan. That organization has ripped out and shit on its fans hearts for years. And if you really want to pick nits, they started 6-0 a few years ago and finished like 7-9.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
Let’s band together and figure this problem out, guys. How can we remove some of the Lions litter from SG’s facebook feed?
/no one gives a shit
September 19th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
Ha! Considering all the empty backfield sets they run and the fact that they’re the only team in the league that still uses a wildcat QB, i’m surprised you didnt call it “faggy”. Fred Jackson is a beast though.
As a Bills fan i just want them to show a pulse against the Patriots. Too often during this 15 game losing streak they’ve just laid down and died, especially at home. Then they get Cincy, a possibly Vick-less Eagles team, and the Giants. They could conceivably be 4-2, then who knows?
September 19th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
Redskins looked alright. I was a little upset that the Cardinals receiver fumbled that ball. Would have liked to know more about Kolb in that scenario.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
It’s officially Packers week. Fuck Green Bay. Fuck Aaron Rodgers. Fuck ClHGH Matthews. And fuck the state of Wisconsin as a whole motherfuckin’ crew.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:31 AM
Here’s what I wrote:
“Be happy but be humble”
Congratulations, you’re the biggest idiot on the internet.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:31 AM
My own fucking boyfriend talks shit to me about the Lions.
Come on.. that’s a problem that easily solved.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:31 AM
One thing to remember about Cam – he started slow last year and appeared to be pretty dedicated to practice, listening and getting better. He was a completely different QB when you compare game 1 vs game 7 and beyond.
I anticipate he’ll do the same in the NFL.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:31 AM
Bills using Brad Smith perfectly in the Wildcat. He’s converted on just about every third and short play where he lines up as QB. It’s a shame he and McKelvin and others have had no real chances to return kicks.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:32 AM
/spray paints giant orange C on that stupid fucking belt
September 19th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
And fuck the state of Wisconsin as a whole motherfuckin’ crew.
I think the state of WI should be a shining beacon of light to the mouth breathers down in Illinois as to how to run a professional organization* without spending $200MM a year. It’s a shame they’re not smart enough to use that model.
*Bucks don’t count, as I hardly consider them a professional organization

September 19th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
Unlike some other Bears fans that shall remain nameless, I specifically and on purpose do NOT talk shit about the Bears or brag about wins. I’m extremely careful about that.
But whatever, all I’m saying is temper your enthusiasm. You have a 14 more games to play. Don’t blow your wad in week 2. (That was a universal “you” by the way)
September 19th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
Redskins looked alright.
that about sums it up. they’re certainly going to have to play better against the cowfags next monday.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:37 AM
Ha. Glad you said “universal.” I haven’t been hyping them up. I’m cautiously optimistic with this team. We’ll see how they look in 6 weeks.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:40 AM
chicago fans remind me of AL/NFC east fans, which makes me hate the bears and cubs.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
No, they’re really not.
You are aware they did hang 34 on the DEFENDING SUPER BOWL CHAMPS who got everybody back from the injured list and were playing AT HOME, right?
Yeah, the Bears and Cutler blow goats, but this Saints is not to be overlooked.
But whatever, tell me how great (random QB’s name) is.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
go get pegged, fuck face.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
At heldover:
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! Go cry to your mom.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
Saints fans overlook their own team because they are too concerned with what Dallas does.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
whoa.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
I guess Redskins fans are the opposite of Lions fans. They’re trying so hard to contain their enthusiasm and excitement, they’re about to burst wide open. If they beat Dallas though, all bets are off. It’ll be “how ’bout them Skins” all week long.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
Not quite, clearly the loss of Frank Zombo has left the Packer defense in tatters…get well soon buddy
September 19th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
Shaun Hill looked real poised out there in the 4th quarter. He’s quite mobile and very accurate.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
go get pegged, fuck face.
see?? this is is like the chicago’s version of nj’s muff cabbage.
they are AL/NFC east fans!
September 19th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
Tarvaris Jackson is about to turn that corner.
September 19th, 2011 at 11:56 AM

Just be glad you’re not Mrs. Turner and your husband’s nickname is “Tripod.”
