Is Bill Simmons the “Bloggissists” That Ticked Off Cavs’ Owner Dan Gilbert?
For the first time since LeBron James left, Cavaliers’ owner and Fathead magnate Dan Gilbert is very mad. When NBA labor discussions failed this week, fingers were pointed at the Cavs owner and Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver as the two main problems. From ESPN via Hardwood Paroxysm:
Owners were seriously considering coming off of their demand for a salary freeze and would allow players’ future earnings to be tied into the league’s revenue growth, a critical point for players. The owners also were willing to allow the players to maintain their current salaries, without rollbacks, sources said.
But when the owners left the players to meet among themselves for around three hours, Cleveland’s Dan Gilbert and Phoenix’s Robert Sarver expressed their dissatisfaction with many of the points, sources said. The sources said that the Knicks’ James Dolan and the Lakers’ Jerry Buss were visibly annoyed by the hardline demands of Gilbert and Sarver.
This prompted Bill Simmons to go on a Twitter rant about how the NBA was doomed. Two of those Tweets were directed at Gilbert.
1 Keep hearing Gilbert/Sarver are hurting NBA lockout progress from owner’s side. This pisses me off for a variety of reasons, but mainly…
3 Gilbert also overpaid for his team, overpaid players FOR YEARS and would love the current system had LBJ stayed. Now it’s no good for him?
The guy who wrote an angry letter to the people of Cleveland in Comic Sans after LeBron James bolted for Miami probably didn’t like one of ESPN’s most visible writers taking such a public shot at him. A few hours later, Gilbert tweeted:
Some of these NBA ‘bloggissists’ flat-out make stuff up and then try to dupe readers into believing their fiction is real. Sad & pathetic.
While we can’t be certain, Simmons seems like the most likely target. Along with every other bloggissist. [Ed. What is a bloggissist?] And that’s really the most important thing here. Dan Gilbert invented a word. And Fatheads. The man is a visionary.

Outstanding. Between that and “Old Freaknasty” this day is starting off good.

Obvi it’s a narcissistic blogger. I know of a few.

OOOOOHHHH! Someone just walked away from his Bestest Man candidacy.

Gilbert took advantage of the ONLY way a small market team can succeed.
Going forward, he would like a more even playing field. Yeah, let’s crucify him.

Based on what I’ve seen from YYSA and Cavs fans like Spencer… both these guys are universally hated by their fan bases. Like, Peter Angelos style.

I hate him more than any human, ever. I only root for one death in the entire world, and it’s his. Not sure if Cavs fans can even be close to this.

I did not know what a portmanteau was. Learned something new today.

Well, I understand the anger towards Sarver and Gilbert but let’s pump the brakes. I’ve been marinating in 18 years of Angelos and his leadership — Sarver and Gilbert need to gather more service time before they reach the levels of anger, disgust and antipathy that Os’ fans have for Angelos.

I don’t think Gilbert and Sarver are comparable. Gilbert has actually put money into developing his team and facilities and tried not to let his stars get away, while Sarver shooed off Joe Johnson as well as gave away his last 28 first round picks (approx).

Does the twitter machine not support Comic Sans? One more reason not to use it.

“Bloggissists” goes into my pantheon of words with “nontroversy.” I plan to use both as often as possible until someone punches me. Or goes all old-freak-nasty on me.

It’s really a shame he wasted Steve Nash’s prime by not getting him any help.
September 16th, 2011 at 12:23 PM
He offered the same contract to Joe Johnson that he wound up taking in Atlanta. That was more of a Joe Johnson wanted to be the man on a team and in Phoenix at the time he was the fourth fiddle.
The selling of the draft picks was what pissed a lot of people off but that is blame that can be directed at Mike D’antoni. Mike D’antoni refused to develop players and as such gave carte blanche for Sarver to sell the picks.
My hate for Sarver stems more from the fact that he is not Colangelo. As that Suns team was constructed in 2005, Colangelo would have pushed hard for a championship by spending a lot. Sarver just refused to go above and beyond. He was still above the salary cap most of those years but could have paid certain players here and there to possibly win a championship.
Also after how close the Suns got in 2010, there is no way a Jerry Colangelo ran organization lets Amare walk to the Knicks.
September 16th, 2011 at 12:25 PM
Probably would have won it all, had their players been disciplined enough to just stay on the bench versus the Spurs.

September 16th, 2011 at 12:29 PM
A lot of bad luck in those runs. The suspensions that year. Jerry Stackhouse breaking Joe Johnsons face the year before. Shit sucks. 43 seasons and counting. Only a matter of time until I have to see them brought up with the list of all droughts.
September 16th, 2011 at 12:29 PM
Probably would have helped had they not lost those other 3 games at full strength.
September 16th, 2011 at 12:31 PM
You can lose three games in a 7 game series and still win the series. Get bent.
September 16th, 2011 at 12:43 PM
Jerry Richardson was potrayed as a buffoon during the NFL ockout. But now he is the successful tycoon type compared to the loser NBA owners. Simmons has an ever changing narrative.
September 16th, 2011 at 12:46 PM
Too bad that one only went 6.
September 16th, 2011 at 12:51 PM
I disagree Spencer…Gilbert has been an owner (as clown stated before) that has actually invested a lot of money in players and facilities. It’s a nice change of pace from the clowns running the Indians
/fuck the dolans
September 16th, 2011 at 12:58 PM
It only went 6 because the top two power forwards on the Suns were suspended for a game 5 in Phoenix. Game 5 winners go on to win the series the majority of the time.
September 16th, 2011 at 1:04 PM
It only went 6 because the Suns could only win 2 games at full strength, while losing 3 at full strength, and 1 without their undisciplined PFs who left the bench. You you can hold on to your wishful thoughts and cries of injustice if it helps.
September 16th, 2011 at 1:09 PM
Oh fuck off. The Suns had just swung the moment back to them in that series and then had horrible suspensions handed down because a Spurs fuck decided to check a guy half his size in the boards. It should also be noted that Tim Duncan in that exact same game left the ‘vicinity of the bench’ after a hard foul on Parker. The suspensions were horrible and any human that defends them is an idiot.
Having said that enjoy your weekend brawny.

After first glance at the headline, I thought you were saying Bill Simmons was the Bloggissists. http://twitter.com/#!/Bloggissist Good stuff

They really were, but I was happy about them in the moment.
You too YYSA. BTW, if you can you coax 4 touchdowns out of Romo while you are rooting him on this weekend, my fantasy team would really appreciate it.

It can’t be Bill Simmons. He’s not a blogger. He just plays one on the internet.
