Can Cliff Lee Strike Out SpongeBob?
Robinson Cano, Josh Hamilton, David Ortiz and Cliff Lee may be en route to the MLB post-season, but first they’ll have to face another hurdle: A team from Nicktoons led by SpongeBob SquarePants, Stimpy and other animated athletes.
Nicktoons MLB from 2K Play hits retail today, pitting a roster of Nickelodeon’s animated all-stars against an MLB line-up, including 300 players from all 30 MLB clubs.
Games take place in such MLB ballparks as Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium and Nicktoons venues including Frosty Freeze Field and the Poseidome.
Marketing support includes print and Internet. In addition, specially marked packages of Nicktoons MLB contain exclusive Topps trading cards that spotlight both a Nickelodeon character and an MLB player, allowing fans to collect all nine cards in the series.
Among the MLB players are Matt Holliday (St. Louis Cardinals), David Ortiz (Boston Red Sox), Josh Hamilton (Texas Rangers), Brian Wilson (San Francisco Giants), Andre Ethier (Los Angeles Dodgers), Miguel Cabrera (Detroit Tigers), Jason Heyward (Atlanta Braves), Cliff Lee (Philadelphia Phillies) and Robinson Cano and Alex Rodriguez (New York Yankees).
“It’s on,” said Steve Lux, vp-business development for 2K Play, said in a statement. “At long last, this epic face-off can be played out on video game systems everywhere to determine which team will bring home bragging rights and who should report to the Minor Leagues.”
According to Shaan Kandawalla, vp-digital games for Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group, “The Nickelodeon Nicktoons have been petitioning to ‘go yard’ with the best players in Major League Baseball. These characters have been training this entire season and are fielding a team of All-Stars to make history with the newest rivalry in all of baseball.”
Nicktoons MLB is available for the Xbox 360 featuring support for Kinect, Wii and Nintendo DS.
