A big congrats to Kirk Ferentz for continuing his streak as the most overrated coach in college football history.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:16 AM
Jets got lucky last night again.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:16 AM
week 1 immediate fan overreaction response. The Giants will finish with 5 wins.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:17 AM
oh stop.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:18 AM
Great way to start the day that I’m sure will be filled with lots of reasonable commenting.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:18 AM
After Saturday’s race Kurt Busch had to be restrained from attacking a reporter, and in the media center tore up Jenna Fryer’s(who Tony Stewart is going off on) transcript after she tried to show him he called Jimmie Johnson a “5-time chump”

I can’t believe Walgreens fired this employee. The guy should be given a raise and promoted! If he didn’t have a gun, wouldn’t he be dead?
This. If I owned a convenience store or pharmacy, I’m recruiting him and his arsenal.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:23 AM
That F-16 pilot story gave me chills, incredible read.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:24 AM
If you didn’t stay up Jets-Cowboys … Tony Romo’s terrible 4th quarter helped the Jets rally to victory.
What a frustrating guy to root for every week. That was a very typical Tony Romo meltdown.
And if you’re scoring at home, that final FG drive goes into Mark Sanchez’s “game winning drives” stat. So please never quote that stat to anyone, about any quarterback. That one, or QB wins. Thanks.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:25 AM
A big congrats to Kirk Ferentz for continuing his streak as the most overrated coach in college football history.
This seems like a well thought-out conclusion.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:26 AM
1-0 baby. that’s all that matters.
but yeah … the Jets have issues with that offensive line. if they can’t run and the receiver suck …

If that’s an unreasonable comment here, then you fill in the blank there …

really tough morning to be a Cowboys fan:
24-10 lead
and then this happens in the 4th quarter
fumble on the one
terrible interception
punt blocked for TD
I’ll take it!
/good start to the day

Smoke is the man
September 12th, 2011 at 8:33 AM
jets -6 was the only bet i lost all weekend, yet i’m not mad b/c the cowfags lost.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:33 AM
just for the funk of it:
Parlayed the Pats -7 & Broncos -3 this morning.
had a good weekend in college (3-2) & NFL (3-2-1).
plus the Jets won!
did i mention that?
September 12th, 2011 at 8:34 AM
The Skins defense looked pretty good. All week one hedging aside, the team could be pretty good, if ultimately it will still result in a fair amount of losses because of the QB.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:35 AM
week 1 immediate fan overreaction response. The Giants will finish with 5 wins.
The NFC championship goes through Washington?!?!
September 12th, 2011 at 8:36 AM
interesting how some of the potential “worst teams” in the league played … not bad yesterday:
Redskins (W)
Bengals (W)
Buffalo (W)
You could even toss Carolina in there. Panthers had that game until giving up two freaky 70+ yard TDs in the 4th qtr.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:37 AM
they did. Ryan Kerrigan was a great pickup. and the Giants line looked overpowered all day.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:38 AM
Nonsense, it was El Sanchupacueztlquatel’s that lead the Jets to victory.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:38 AM
your are about as annoyins as these stupid FOX NFL Sunday ad’s that pop up every time I refresh
September 12th, 2011 at 8:38 AM
*annoying
September 12th, 2011 at 8:38 AM
unfortunately they blew a chance to help you cover that 4.5 win total.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:39 AM
Big plays are part of the game. The freaky TD was the one that John Beason lost his season on, where Kolb was running for his life to the right and there was a tight end who snuck out uncovered.
The TD to Doucet (I think) that was the big play was just a nice read when the Panthers were bringing too many guys.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:39 AM
watching the second half of the Viking game yesterday was quite painful.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:40 AM
About the Bills though… WNY is officially buzzing. The letdown should be fun.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:40 AM
The Skins defense looked pretty good. All week one hedging aside, the team could be pretty good, if ultimately it will still result in a fair amount of losses because of the QB.
i’m good with the front 7, the secondary, until landry gets back, looks questionable.
/team grossman
September 12th, 2011 at 8:41 AM
watching the second half of the Viking game yesterday was quite painful.
At this stage of his career, that exactly what watching McNabb play is: painful.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:41 AM
I’m shocked Cam Newton played so well. At least statistically. I didnt see any games yesterday.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:42 AM
anyone else think that the Real Steel trailers were a tie in with the Fox robot? no, just me?
September 12th, 2011 at 8:42 AM
i’m good with the front 7, the secondary, until landry gets back, looks questionable.
/team grossman
Team Grossman is going to have a short run unless they fix their protection — he took some real shots yesterday.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:42 AM
and the Giants line looked overpowered all day.
not sure about that. the skins failed to get pressure on manning the entire first half.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:42 AM
The Donovan McNabb experience in Minnesota is not going to end up well. Guy is a washed up bum.
/wanking
September 12th, 2011 at 8:43 AM
The Bills looked very sharp yesterday.
/pours one out for jpq
September 12th, 2011 at 8:43 AM
I thought maybe the Vikings would be less predictable this year. Nope, still run/run on the first two downs. Such an awful offense to watch.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:44 AM
Team Grossman is going to have a short run unless they fix their protection — he took some real shots yesterday.
true. trent williams was abused yesterday.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:44 AM
I don’t know about 5 wins, but that defensive backfield is in shambles. The Redskins probably should have had 2 more TD’s.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:45 AM
I was going to go with pathetic, but yeah, just awful.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:47 AM
true. trent williams was abused yesterday.
He was awful — hope he can get it together soon.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:48 AM
Cam looked pretty decent, I watched a good chunk of that game. He wasn’t completely unbelievable, but for his first start as a rookie it is a good jumping off point.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:48 AM
nice stems on that dame.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:49 AM
the secondary, until landry gets back, looks questionable.
It drive me crazy that Doughty still plays a significant role for the Skins.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:50 AM
If I get a win tonight my record will be about the same. Plus I’m still fighting with the sports book over the Utah/USC game. They paid my account, and then went back in and took money out (to a push – I had Utah +9) after the TD was changed.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:54 AM
Happy with the week 1 win for the Jags. Worried about what the Jets D is going to do to McCown next week.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:55 AM
Cam is going to have a tougher task next week against Green Bay though…Arizona’s D is hot garbage.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:55 AM
Ah, good ol’ overreaction Monday. There are some somber Steelers fans in my office today.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:56 AM
Doughty
he’s so damn bad. he and rocky macintosh both need to be replaced asap.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:59 AM
Romo’s fumble was just bad luck. I don’t have any problems with him going for the score there.
Romo’s interception was just head-scratching. Why are you forcing the ball to a decoy on 1st down? Just throw the fucking thing away.
All in all, a lot to like from that Cowboys loss. That defense should be very salty if they can find a way to get healthy CBs on the field.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:59 AM
Oilers rookies stomped on the Canucks rookies yesterday. No need to play the season, just send the Cup back to Edmonton.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:59 AM
83 friday and 86 sunday both in rain. and today it’s fucking gorgeous. golf is a helluva drug.
September 12th, 2011 at 8:59 AM
Aaron Ross sucks.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:01 AM
it wasn’t securing the ball. that’s not luck.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:02 AM
It’s bad luck. It’s also uncanny fumble recovery luck for the Jets.
Sanchez’s fumble was shitty ball security.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:04 AM
“Brady and Laura Hoke became engaged while riding in a station wagon when on vacation with both of their sets of parents. Brady asked Laura, who was sitting in the way back, if she wanted a piece of candy. She expected butterscotch, but got an engagement ring.”
first read this as ‘enraged’, which put a whole different twist on the story. I WANT CANDY!
September 12th, 2011 at 9:04 AM
@Ill- Doughty is terrible. I cannot wait for Landry to get back.
What I really liked about the Skins yesterday was that their D-line looked a hell of a lot better without Fat Albert. Was nice to have guys out there who wanted to play.
TBL- Any thoughts on Plaxico today? Not only did he get some yards but that block on Jenkins impacted the game as well. Braylon Edwards would only hit someone like that in a nighclub.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:04 AM
I let the Cowboys suck me in again last night. Romo is the Greg Norman of football. Hard to watch. Yea and the explosion in France. I’m pretty sure a Cowboys fan did that…
September 12th, 2011 at 9:06 AM
83 saturday (by myself of course) and it was probably 80 and sunny. just awesome.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:06 AM
it’s not uncommon to reprmand/fire employees who go all hero in those situations….it encurages other employees to do the same, which can result in many carnages, some to customers, who then sue because Hero didn’t follow policy to hand over the cash and keep trouble to a minimum
September 12th, 2011 at 9:07 AM
No, no.. but I was told the Jets are just ‘good at’ recovering fumbles
God Im so tired.. why did I stay up for that game when I knew I’d need to save my energy for tonight? Sooo much coffee today.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:08 AM
Nervous about the Sox?
September 12th, 2011 at 9:08 AM
it wasn’t securing the ball. that’s not luck.
throw that shit away. That’s what quarterbacks do. Accept the 3 points as a good thing, and not a failure. It isnt necessary to be a hero every drive.
That’s not luck, that’s bravado and stupidity.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:10 AM
very nice.
what i wouldnt do to get 18 in today…
September 12th, 2011 at 9:10 AM
Let’s just say I’ll be glad for a distraction tonight. I have tickets to friday’s game though, so it’d be nice if they could get their shit together for that. Also hear Beckett might start that game.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:11 AM
That should be Shields’ turn in the Rays rotation again, so yeah, that could be a biggie.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:12 AM
I love how the Cam debate has gone from he can’t play against NFL defenses to “it was Arizona”! It kind of reminds me of LeBron’s entrance into the NBA when everyone went from how he was going to struggle to “it was Sacramento”.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:14 AM
what i wouldnt do to get 18 in today
a real addict would quit his job to play today…
September 12th, 2011 at 9:14 AM
It seemed to me a lot of people around here were flat out laughing at the notion of Newton as an NFL quarterback.
He could have had a couple more turnovers easily yesterday, and a few passes were comically off target, but overall that was damn impressive yesterday.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:14 AM
enabler.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:14 AM
Really nice read about how Redskins’ owner Daniel Snyder chased Mike Shanahan until he got him.
i know i should click the link before i type…seeing those two names, i can;t imagine a ‘really nice’ anything
September 12th, 2011 at 9:15 AM
my parents are coming in for the game this weekend so I am knocking off at noon on friday to play with my old man. I’ll be doing my best to get him to give me his R11, don’t see it happening. it’s going to be a long week.
I also forgot how nice it is playing by yourself. done in about 2.5 hours, got into a pretty nice groove and didn’t have to wait until to hit a shot until 18.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:15 AM
I am. It’s getting scary.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:18 AM
had a good weekend in college (3-2) & NFL (3-2-1).
this may or may not be a good weekend, depending on how much you bet
September 12th, 2011 at 9:19 AM
He could have had a couple more turnovers easily yesterday, and a few passes were comically off target, but overall that was damn impressive yesterday
this. i didnt think cam would be able to throw for 200, let alone 422.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:20 AM
Panthers had that game until giving up two freaky 70+ yard TDs in the 4th qtr.
i wish i could insert cowboys where panthers is, but they didn;t give up two freaky 70+ yard TDs. they played down to their comeptition
September 12th, 2011 at 9:21 AM
oh yea…it’s fucking awesome.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:21 AM
If that offensive game plan is going to be the Vikings’ MO, why not play Webb? I’m sure he could’ve executed as least as well as McNabb yesterday.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:21 AM
If you remember last year, Cam started out a bit rough, but improved every week. This is especially true with his passing. He’s shown the ability to learn, adapt and improve and I expect he’ll do that again this year.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:23 AM
Newton’s obviously going to get the headlines, but the most surprising aspect of that game was Steve Smith = still an effing beast.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:25 AM
bears looked good
September 12th, 2011 at 9:25 AM
Steve Smith helped me put up some beastly numbers against jck in the TBL league.
/replays the end of the ND-Michigan game
//excellent
September 12th, 2011 at 9:26 AM
dude hit his high water mark this week.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:27 AM
I don’t know how you can get turned the way he did on a corner route.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:27 AM
Sorta my thoughts. The line play was awful, and Peterson had one huge run and then 15 others that left them at 2nd and 3rd or long. It was like the Vikes thought they could run the clock out and wear the Chargers down after they had a TD lead in the 2nd quarter. That only works if you actually get first downs.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:32 AM
The run-blocking was night and day compared to last year, much improved. Protection was shoddy, Charlie Johnson’s “ole!” technique is um, puzzling to say the least.
It just seems like SD made necessary adjustments at halftime while the Vikings did nothing.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:32 AM
I was at this game and it was kind of depressing.
There was never any point during the game where I felt like the PSU offense was going to challenge the Alabama defense.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
Romo is amazing. He’s been doing stuff like that for how many years now? It’s worked how often? He is the ultimate example of a “between the 20s” quarterback.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
vikings biggest benefit was playing SD before they knew how to run their offense with TD only mindset. With Kaeding out they couldn’t settle for a FG and their halftime adjustments corrected that.
the jared allen INT was pretty piss poor by rivers though.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:38 AM
Really? The “if you take away X” game is not the sort of exercise I try to use often, but he had 15 carries for 52 yards. And one for 46. If the Vikings are going to try and run him down people’s throats all day it’s going to have to be a heck of a lot more efficient than that.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:38 AM
Bears.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Go Blue!
September 12th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
Bears.
I have to admit I didn’t expect the Bears to win yesterday their defense looked great yesterday.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
49ers 1 – 0 baby tied for the division lead.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:44 AM
It sucks they imploded but I am rather numb to those Romo games. They are going to happen. You just deal with it. But I was rather impressed with the offensive line. I thought last night was going to be a blood bath going in. Overall it looks like they are set up pretty much for an 8-8 season which is fine because they have no depth at all. Its a rebuilding year.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:46 AM
Romo is amazing. He’s been doing stuff like that for how many years now? It’s worked how often? He is the ultimate example of a “between the 20s” quarterback.
6 years. Very, very seldom.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:47 AM
Gerhart and Harvin were seeing plenty of daylight.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
But I was rather impressed with the offensive line.
Nagy is not strong enough. He kept going backwards, or wherever DeVito/Pouha wanted him too. He was OK when he was moving.
Not bad, though. Not great, but not bad. They were very mobile as a unit, which is a sea change from the miserable, sedentary behemoths last year.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:49 AM
Lol. Gerhart ran the ball twice, and I’m sure the Chargers made an adjustment when Peterson wasn’t in the backfield. And Harvin ran 4 times for 15 yards.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:51 AM
The MIGHT be Giants. What a fucking display, ugh!
September 12th, 2011 at 9:51 AM
Whoops, premature submission. 26 carries for 159 yards, (126 in the first half) but that includes one long McNabb scramble. Also includes Joe Webb’s awful attempt at the wildcat as well.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:51 AM
as a fat man, that fat douche suing white castle should go die in a fire. You don’t go sit inside the restaurant, dumbass. That’s what drive-thrus are for!
September 12th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
The Bears are going to the Super Bowl. The Hawkeyes will not win another game this year.
That about covers this weekend’s range of emotions.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
I’m comparing this to last year dude, when no one but AD could run for shit. I said it’s an improvement, for one half anyway.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Great Bills win yesterday. Still realistic about them being no better than an 6-8 win team. Should be 2-0 however, after the Raiders come to town next week.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Yeah the Giants fans I was with at the bar yesterday were freaking out. Could be an ugly, ugly year for the Jints. Nicks looked solid though.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
tj, I didnt see any of the game, but wow is Fitzpatrick the 2nd best QB in that division or what?
September 12th, 2011 at 9:57 AM
Fair enough. Things should get a lot better the next three weeks. And I would hope they decide occasionally throwing on first down (they called pass four out of 15 first downs).
September 12th, 2011 at 9:57 AM
I need more than one game to decide if the Bills are legit or if the Chiefs are god awful. But congrats to the Bills for that beat down yesterday.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
easily
September 12th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
Absolutely. Though a much better chance of the latter than the former. It would be fun for the Bills to be decent, though.
September 12th, 2011 at 9:59 AM
I am in two survivor pools. Well, I was in two survivor pools. The Browns and the Chiefs have taken me out in week 1. That’s two years in a row in week 1 I’ve been eliminated from a survivor pool. I think I’ll stop those now.
September 12th, 2011 at 10:01 AM
Ya…these need to be changed. Still pick one per week, but highest score at the end of the year or something.
/I got Browns’d
September 12th, 2011 at 10:02 AM
They won’t be good or god awful. just below average is what I expect this year. They’ll have their usual problems with the rest of the AFC East and they play all the NFC East teams. I will be genuinely surprised if they win more than 6 or 7 games
/they should be able to take down the Raiders, Broncos, Titans, Bengals, and Dolphins (twice)
September 12th, 2011 at 10:02 AM
Yeah- thank god I changed my survivor pick from the Browns to the Cardinals. Still was iffy for a while there yesterday.
September 12th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
/should re-read posts before quoting.
//yes the Chiefs will be awful. Bills will have better record.
///fuck the Jets
September 12th, 2011 at 10:04 AM
I picked the Browns as well. I watched a bit of the second half, and Spencer’s words kept going through my head about the Browns letting you down.
Then their defensive backs decided to literally take a play off. Unbelievable.
September 12th, 2011 at 10:05 AM
Yeah the Giants fans I was with at the bar yesterday were freaking out. Could be an ugly, ugly year for the Jints. Nicks looked solid though.
Yep, Nicks looked good, and they managed to get some decent pressure on Sexy Rexy, but their secondary didn’t do that well. If they don’t get some of their defensive personnel back soon, this is going to be a shitty year.
BTW, thanks for the Cuba Libre tip. Great decor and ambiance, and awesome food.
September 12th, 2011 at 10:05 AM
Yeah– thank god I changed my survivor pick from the Browns to the Cardinals. Still was iffy for a while there yesterday.
September 12th, 2011 at 10:06 AM
The survivor pool I do at work allows you to buy back only if you lose in week 1. You do have to pay double the original entry fee however. About 28% of our pool got knocked out because of the Chiefs & Browns.
September 12th, 2011 at 10:06 AM
I also got a total of FOUR points in JCK’s pick ‘em against the spread. If it wasn’t for the Bears success yesterday and the Wolverines ripping out Brian Kelly’s heart, I would have had an awful football weekend in the rooting department.
I took it on the chin at the sportsbook yesterday. Chasing on the Patriots tonight to try and cover up some losses.
September 12th, 2011 at 10:07 AM
CJ, I love how some people are saying the game tonight will be closer than expected. Hell, I expect the Patriots to win by 2-3 touchdowns.

Not a problem. I would’ve suggested Amada or Budakkan as well, but you need reservations at least two months out for Amada and a month out for Budakkan.

Yeah, those sports pundits calling for a ATL Super Bowl this year might a little off the mark

I took it on the chin at the sportsbook yesterday. Chasing on the Patriots tonight to try and cover up some losses.

CJ, I love how some people are saying the game tonight will be closer than expected. Hell, I expect the Patriots to win by 2-3 touchdowns.

Actually stopped by the Budakan for a drink after dinner. Pretty cool place. Might be at the Farmacia (sp?) this Friday.

Always the sentiment among Hawk fans when they lose. Truth is, they flat got outplayed and it shouldn’t have been that close.
