Chiefs Safety Eric Berry Out For Season With Torn ACL
Eric Berry, the Chiefs’ first round draft pick last year and a big part of the dramatic improvement in the pass defense compared to 2009, is reportedly out for the season with a torn ACL. He left the game early in the first quarter yesterday. Ryan Fitzpatrick went on to throw four touchdown passes, and tight end Scott Chandler became a star for a day with two touchdown catches.
This is horrible news for Kansas City, who already was facing a much tougher schedule in 2011 and was going to have an uphill battle to the playoffs. The team already lost tight end Tony Moeaki to a knee injury, and first round pick Jonathan Baldwin injured his wrist in the fight with Thomas Jones. As a result, a team that lacked quality receiving options opposite Dwayne Bowe last year needed those guys to provide some balance has been horrible on offense in the preseason and in the opener.
The defense was going to have to continue to improve, but now, I would advise you to go back and look at this team in 2009 with the corpse of Mike Brown and Jon McGraw at safety. 2nd year pro Kendrick Lewis is a decent player, but now Sabby Piscitelli (uggh) and Jon McGraw will be seeing a lot more time on the field. In 2009, teams played jump ball at will, and without consequence, especially teams with downfield attacks like the Chargers.
Here’s your fantasy tip. Start tight ends, and well, anyone with a pulse as a receiver against the Chiefs for the foreseeable future. I fear for what Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, and Nate Burleson are going to do this week. It could get real ugly in Kansas City if the pass defense breaks down without Berry and the offense is struggling without Charlie Weis.

The lesson here my dear Lisk, is that when you play your Hawkeyes… YOU JUST WIN GAMES.
Free Stanzi. Heal Moeaki.

But honestly, Chiefs are screwed. Hope the TBL medical plan covers prescription drugs for Lisk’s sake. Gonna need them for watching that Chiefs defense this year.

Say that name out loud without laughing.
September 12th, 2011 at 3:15 PM
But seriously, Lisk, Eric Hosmer.

sucks for the chiefs, and for my viewing options on Sundays. it was already tough to watch the Chiefs. but hey, maybe the Vikings stand a chance in this game. oh what’s that, McNabb will still be throwing at shoe-laces? never mind then.

It seems like every year I’m both amazed he’s still relevant in the NFL and that I’m drafting him to my stupid fantasy team.

Lisk, I hope the time you spent on this write up didn’t cut into the refinement of your Raiders preview.

this is fun. now replace “gary, indiana” with “sabby piscatelli”!

Other than Run DMC and cut shots to TP on the sideline in street clothes, what am I looking at tonight? I have class during the early game but I’ll get to catch that night game when I get home.

He’ll be very relevant this week. I’m going to be shocked if Stafford doesn’t hit 280 by the half. He threw two rockets where he rolled out and threw the ball about 60 yards. Calvin just missed one in traffic as it hit ground, and someone else also had a chance 1 on 1. Piscitelli/McGraw won’t be within 10 yards of either of those throws.

Looks like Detroit is a solid knockout play.

September 12th, 2011 at 3:23 PM
Well…Von Miller, but he’s on the Broncos.
I actually think Jason Campbell won’t be terrible. So there’s that.
I also love Hue Jackson. I’m all in.

Von Miller. And Elvis Dumervil burrowing through Jared Veldheer’s sternum and out the other side.

I passed it off to the EIC, and I’m taking the Dolphins-Pats. It’s kind of like wife swapping, except we are division swapping. Probably better that way or the collective vitriol might be too much tonight.

ACLs are the goddamned devil. Evolution needs to hurry the fuck up on fixing that shit.

HUE! HUE!
September 12th, 2011 at 3:26 PM
Von Miller it is. Did Taiwan Jones make the team as anything other than a special teams guy?
September 12th, 2011 at 3:28 PM
that’s low on the list. first thing evolution needs to fix is that god damned pinkie toenail.
September 12th, 2011 at 3:29 PM

I’m unclear on what evolution needs to fix there.
September 12th, 2011 at 3:29 PM
Or the pinkie toe in general. Really it is there to just catch corners of tables and beds.
September 12th, 2011 at 3:29 PM
#3 RB…should see some touches. Some players on the team call him the fastest guy they’ve ever played with.
/note: 8 guys on the team run sub-4.36 40s

it’s hard to cut.

stability, bro.
September 12th, 2011 at 3:30 PM
Oh great. It will probably end up being a week 3 preview of the Jets-Raiders with a heavy slant toward a particular team.

Doesn’t bother me too much; I just ignore it.

The Raiders are always the best track team in the NFL.
September 12th, 2011 at 3:36 PM
wha? how the hell can you ignore something like that? it’s like they wanted their commercial to be as obnoxious as possible.
