Kate Upton is the 2011 Culture Tournament Champion
To the surprise of nobody, Kate Upton steamrolled the field in the 2011 Culture Tournament and dominated ESPN’s Bill Simmons in the Championship. Upton’s impressive run was similar to what the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels did in the 1990 NCAA tournament (except Upton didn’t even have a Ball State scare). I’m trying to guess who could play Duke to Upton’s UNLV in 2012 … I got nothing. Feel free to submit ideas if you’d like.
2009 Champ: Megan Fox over Erin Andrews
2010 Champ: Brooklyn Decker over Conan O’Brien
2011 Champ: Kate Upton over Bill Simmons
That probably says something about everyone who is voting, right?

You should have used that picture on the main page too. Much better than the bikini photo

Some other hot chick who will come along, this tournament is more predictable than a sunrise

Selena Gomez will probably be getting the call-up to the majors here soon enough. Otherwise I’m sure I can go through the cast of Degrassi and find one for you.

“When I think culture, my first thought is Kate Upton.”

Or, if you put Allison Brie in there she would blow it out based on some of the commenter preferences. If you put in Emma Watson, Shatner would make sure she scored some silly upset like Mila Kunis over Brooklyn Decker.
You’re all still in the doghouse for that one.

Depends on your definition of culture. This tournament provides a dismal, though accurate, snapshot of contemporary American culture in many ways.

You seen Decker lately with a haircut that makes her look like Ron Pearlman from Beauty and the Beast?
/Kunis now and forever
September 6th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
even when she’s dead? and not the “warm, gooey” dead, either…
September 6th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
Why is this a Culture Tournament? Shouldn’t it be a who’s the hottest chick this year tournament?
September 6th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
Haircut, Butters? You are aware that hair grows and can thus be re-cut or re-styled? You Packers fans…

2009 Champ: Megan Fox over Erin Andrews
2010 Champ: Brooklyn Decker over Conan O’Brien
2011 Champ: Kate Upton over Bill Simmons
so this is a t&a boner tournament, not culture.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
The complete package, actually has talent beyond being easy on the eyes…not often a actress can say she’s on two of the best shows on TV at the same time
But if you’re rating someone’s cultural relevance in the past year the Perlman ‘do must be taken into consideration
September 6th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
Hey Patriots fans… I need your help for once. Seeing as how I don’t figure Bill Belichick for a dummy and I do figure Lovie Smith for just that, what did our scouts/physicians miss in Brandon Merriweather? I just don’t see the Pats letting a solid talent go if something wasn’t wrong with him.
Bears needed a safety for when Major Wright gets hurt so I like the pick up. Just wondering why he was really cut.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
/made correct
September 6th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
he wasn’t a solid talent. one of the worst pro bowl selections ever.

I can’t believe that fat ass won, disgrace!

September 6th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
so this is a t&a boner tournament, not culture.
I’d go so far as to suggest that a significant portion of our culture is influenced by how we view beauty or, as you put it, t&a.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
Brandon Merriweather was not good.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
Saw Friends with Benefits over the weekend. She even out-Kunis’d her Forgetting Sarah Marshall role.
Also, Timberlake is a horrible actor. And the movie blew. But Kunis? Ohhhhhh, Kunis…
September 6th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
No way! I’m not into girls that look like 12 year olds.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:47 AM
Well. That makes sense then. A standard Chicago Bears acquisition.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:48 AM
TBL, you should not put women in the Culture Tournament and instead keep it to relevant sports news, media, plays, players, personalities, etc.
Then do a seperate tournament for the best-looking women who’ve been a part of the culture (movies, tv shows, magazines, etc.) from the previous year.
That way, voters won’t be hitting enter with their boners.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
I thought he did a good job as Sean Parker.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:52 AM
timberlake isn’t a horrible actor. You just saw a shitty movie where nobody acted well. Don’t see shitty movies

Timberlake “acted” the entire movie, and his voice, to me, is distracting over the long haul. Sean Parker cameos and SNL sketches are different than carrying a movie.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:55 AM
he’s great if you prefer your safeties to disregard assignments and not put in the prep time.
maybe you’ll get him after he was shocked into realizing pro bowls don’t mean “you’ve arrived” as Elite NFL talent.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:55 AM
Timberlake is a poor man’s C-Tate.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:58 AM
I agree that JT shouldn’t be a leading man but he does well in a supoorting role. You can have a great career as a supporting character actor
September 6th, 2011 at 11:58 AM
C-Tate is a poor mans Gina Carano.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
Steve Buscemi agrees.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:00 PM
She might have to get naked in the next year to stay relevant. 2012 Culture Tournament sleeper.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:00 PM
I have no desire to see “Friends with Benefits” or his new flick “In Time,” so I can’t say if he can or can’t carry a movie.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:01 PM
other than the feature film she’s starring in that releases in January… Haywire actually looks good
September 6th, 2011 at 12:01 PM
If you’re ever tired, may I recommend walking into your employer’s bathroom and seeing a gigantic cockroach crawling near the stall as a method of waking up.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:02 PM
But we’re all smart enough to know this will never happen. I’ll wager he’s the lead in 6 movies over the next 2.5 years.
/runs to check imdb to see what Hollywood is going to subject us to.

Just got to find your Clint Eastwood and attach yourself to him.

“In Time”, starring Justin Timberlake (Oct 2011 Release)
In the future people stop aging at 25 and must work to buy themselves more time, but when a young man finds himself with more time than he can imagine he must run from the corrupt police force to save his life.

Looking forward to the Boardwalk Empire return. I caught up on it with HBO Go and actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:06 PM
that sounds worse than that new movie “Abduction” with the one really buff douche from the twilight movies.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
But if you’re rating someone’s cultural relevance in the past year the Perlman ‘do must be taken into consideration
Touche, Butters. But this came out in February, so shouldn’t that factor in as well?
September 6th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
This. I am definitely ready for this to come back. True Blood please go away.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:09 PM
Fuck…it is worse. Amanda Seyfried also stars. This looks to be shaping up to be TBL’s Vanilla Sky for 2011.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:10 PM
Is there any chance that you can split the hot chicks into their own bracket called the hot chicks bracket, and then everything else in the real culture tournament bracket?
September 6th, 2011 at 12:11 PM
Abduction could be worse than Zookeeper and Apollo 18.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:11 PM
And Johnny Galecki is in “In Time”, too. The Murphy/Lavin Group really fucked him on this one…
September 6th, 2011 at 12:13 PM
Better than seeing it while actually on the toilet.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
Rag on all these movies you want, but you can’t also complain when Hollywood churns out remakes, sequels, and comic book movies on the reg.
The “buying time” concept most likely will suck, but I’ll give my money to it before I drop a dime on Transformers 4.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:15 PM
I just found out I can use this on my computer as well as my phone. Awesome. Going to be watching Boardwalk Empire before bed now.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:21 PM
/Kunis now and forever
/ Saw Friends with Benefits over the weekend. She even out-Kunis’d her Forgetting Sarah Marshall role
She will always be Jackie Beulah Burkhart to me.
September 6th, 2011 at 12:25 PM
I’ll bitch about Hollywood for anything it creates that sucks. I don’t care if it’s an “original” flick like “In Time” or “Abortion,” er, “Abduction” or the next piece of shit from Michael Bay.
