Culture Tournament: Bill Simmons vs. Colin Cowherd, Scott Van Pelt vs. Chris Webber

That stache was amazing.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:22 PM
This is all so confusing.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:23 PM
I hate this stupid tournament so so much. Why do I keep voting?

You like putting dots in holes?
August 24th, 2011 at 3:24 PM
Screw all of you who did not vote for Marv. A pox, upon your house, upon your family and everyone you ever knew!
August 24th, 2011 at 3:25 PM
I just kind of voted randomly on this set. Well Simmons wasn’t random, but the rest, whatever.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:25 PM
Yes!
August 24th, 2011 at 3:26 PM
I find myself asking the same question. I have at least begun to abstain from votes I either know nothing or care nothing about. baby steps.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:26 PM
I voted for Gus (again). Never have liked Olbermann.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:27 PM
Refuse to vote on Olbermann-Johnson. 1) Not a fan of talking heads; 2) That Johnson beat Marvelous is a travesty. This is spite.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:28 PM
I voted for Gus (again).

If voting for Gus is wrong, I dont wanna be right

August 24th, 2011 at 3:35 PM
Anyone rather talk more fantasy football?
Last night I traded the #9 overall (12 team league) and Mike Williams (TB) for Ray Rice and the Jets.
Now, this is a keeper league with some simple rules, so a few of the premier backs are already off the board (Charles, McFadden, Mendenhall, McCoy). And Williams is a keeper for one more year, but Rice is not.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:35 PM
I still think there should’ve been a TBL vs. Bleacher Report entry. Will we get one of his ‘media musings’ posts after BR’s recent $22m injection?
August 24th, 2011 at 3:36 PM
The deal felt like a good deal, and I spent about 10 minutes analyzing before I remembered fantasy football is like buying a raffle ticket anyway, so I pulled the trigger.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:37 PM
Sad that they’ve lost so much fried chicken batter in these silly drug cartel wars
August 24th, 2011 at 3:37 PM
FUCK NO.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:37 PM
Was only doing one league this year, draft isn’t until Sept. 3. And is there a TBL survival pool made up yet?
August 24th, 2011 at 3:38 PM
No one cares about anyone else’s fantasy team.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:38 PM
Someone needs another pathetic cupcake.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:40 PM
The Tim Tebow thread disagrees, it seems.

jck49erfan has one on Yahoo but the login details are escaping me other than the password is the name of his horrific football team…ask him about it on the Twitter
August 24th, 2011 at 3:41 PM
Its hard to tell without knowing what the rest of your team looks like, but I think you made out in getting Rice. Team DEF are a wash because you never know who will be a top scoring one fantasy wise. Williams is good, but he is a top end #2 in Fantasy with the potential to become a low end #1. I make that trade If I am you, fwiw.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:42 PM
No one cares about anyone else’s fantasy team.
Or your kids. Never forget how we don’t care about your kids.

The DEA isn’t wondering why multiple trucks have been peppered with bullets? They need Hank back.
Also, “I am the one who knocks” won Bryan Crantson an Emmy. I think I shit my pants, but wasn’t too afraid to check.

How do I pick between loud obnoxious windbag ranked #2 and loud obnoxious politically charged windbag ranked #10?
I’m writing in Marv.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:45 PM
Still a travesty that Gus beat Marv
August 24th, 2011 at 3:45 PM
Mike is cleaning them up. You assume he did the first time after his ear got shot. And remember when he got that call while he and Jessie were eating, and he told Jessie he had something to take care of? I’d guess that was it. They’ve made him out to be great at making things disappear in the previous seasons.
I got chills after that exchange. Just fucking incredible.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:46 PM
Well… nah. Too easy.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:46 PM
I’d like to a extend a hearty fuck-you-very-much to Jaime Garcia for laying a turd out on the pitcher’s mound today. 6 ER through 4 2/3? That’s some high quality softballs you’re lobbing in there.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:47 PM
Good points.

August 24th, 2011 at 3:48 PM
First, this made me laugh. So true. But yeah, I think it’s very important that instead of fantasy football or kids, we all go back to discussing who is most deserving of our votes in a made up competition no one understands.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:48 PM
Blech, people voting for Cowherd.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:49 PM
I’ll support this write-in. I don’t understand the love for Gus either.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:49 PM
Pretty sure you should drop any Cardinal not named Pujols for the rest of the year. What a free fall.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:50 PM
It seriously took me a year to get my gravatar working the first time (thanks whoever told me that the email is case-sensitive). Better work now.
/my gravatar issues are still better than hearing about fantasy teams…
August 24th, 2011 at 3:50 PM
Best Sportscenter duos ever: I’ll go with Olberman/Patrick followed by Steiner/Ley.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:50 PM
I’m voting for Olberman, just because I remember the good old days on ESPN. He’s living in obscurity now anyway.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:50 PM
Dog discussions have dominated the comment sections for years.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:51 PM
But yeah, I think it’s very important that instead of fantasy football or kids, we all go back to discussing who is most deserving of our votes in a made up competition no one understands.
Put it this way: I care more about Gus upsetting Marv than I do about your attendance at some birthday party this weekend because you slipped one past the goalie 5 years ago in a drunken stupor with this girl you didn’t really even like and now your married and you’ve got this thing called “Johnny” you talk about all the time.
/how’s that for a run-on-sentence?
August 24th, 2011 at 3:51 PM
Luongo’s tears taste like gypsy water!
/also getting into the spirit
And Kane appears to be on track for the opener. He’s skipping camp because, well, he’s probably lazy and doesn’t want to go to training camp. Makes sense for a guy like him. He’ll start slow. As long he’s 100% healthy, I’m cool with him missing camp.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:51 PM
Pretty sure you should drop any Cardinal not named Pujols for the rest of the year. What a free fall.
That’s the plan. Truthfully I don’t know why I’ve stuck with him this long.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:52 PM
Kenny Mayne with Rich Eisen, or Kenny Mayne with Dan Patrick were my favorite.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:52 PM
does it make me racist if i read this like “black people voting for cowherd?”
August 24th, 2011 at 3:52 PM
I hope this means the one guy ahead of me in the fantasy standings who has been carried by Lance Berkman all year is about to do a nose dive.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:52 PM
Also they should just end this tourney and make it Upton/Bar vs The Field.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:53 PM
You talk too much.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:53 PM
It would make you racist if you didn’t read it that way.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:54 PM
The Big Show was great. Kenny Mayne in his hayday with anyone was fun.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:54 PM
Needs more politics, BBQ and making fun of ATL Badge.
/really need more gamers here…
August 24th, 2011 at 3:54 PM
My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding is an amazing TV show. I wish they’d come out with some new episodes.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:54 PM
I actually liked Rich and Dan together. You know, before it got totally played out, I enjoyed Stu Scott when he first came on the network. Don’t tell anyone though.
Steve Levy, SVP and Bucci are the only ones I really care to watch now. John Anderson… HE’S JUST SO SMUG*.
* – and from Wisconsin. Fuck that guy
August 24th, 2011 at 3:54 PM
Alright… gravatar is working! The picture? Not so much
/goes back to drawing board
August 24th, 2011 at 3:54 PM
Hmm, good one. Did you see his “regret” at those comments after Game 5? Those were so overblown, but I think he learned a good lesson about not getting too emotional. I wouldn’t be surprised if this year you see a two goalie system here, right through the playoffs.
And Kane is lazy. Maybe Carcillo will whip him into shape.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:55 PM
hahahaha
August 24th, 2011 at 3:55 PM
As in video gamers, or those who play WoW or LoL? I play console games but not computer games.

The only person working at the WWL from Illinois was probably Brooke Hundley. I’ll claim victory in that battle.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:56 PM
SC – I’m not allowed to watch ESPN anymore. The guy I do the show with banned me, because I’d randomly bitch about Sportscenter on air haha.
August 24th, 2011 at 3:56 PM

Blizzard Entertainment is the reason I remain firmly entrenched in nerdom to this day. I tell ya… StarCraft and Diablo ran up my parents phone bill something ridiculous back when we had the ole 56.6 modem and AOL.
Nothing worse than your parents picking up the phone while you’re in the middle of a game and both parties simultaneously screaming, “GODDAMNIT!”
August 24th, 2011 at 3:59 PM
Just realized I didn’t have you on there, so just followed you.

HAHA. The best was getting them into a pool to swim, deleting the steps, and watching them drown. Then a little gravestone appeared in your yard and randomly their family members showed up and grieved at it.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:00 PM
John Anderson’s the best, should replace Brian Kenny for the primetime show
/He’s from ‘Sconsin, I’m from ‘Sconsin
August 24th, 2011 at 4:00 PM
Or your kids. Never forget how we don’t care about your kids.
ha, just put this on Facebook:
Ok, if I had a sense of humor I’d think this was hilarious: 4yo Gavin comes out of his room with five toy bottles of condiment sauce sticking out of his waistband. I said ‘Gavin’s ready for a picnic!’ But no. He says he’s a superhero (SauceMan I guess). We then run through a scenario where he saves a sauceless gathering, and his next move was to pull one out and start tapping the back of a bottle aggressively, like you do when you’re trying t ge the last drops.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:00 PM
And FYI Miz for when you move this way, it’s a giant boxer who likes to eat strangers and minorities… careful now
August 24th, 2011 at 4:00 PM
I did actually Monday night. Been replaying some Super Nintendo games recently…going to hit my PS3 backlog after Labor Day.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:00 PM
I also dabbled in Ultima Online… talk about nerds. Hey! Look! We can make bread in this game!
I wonder if anyone will know what I’m even talking about with that one.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:00 PM
Nothing worse than your parents picking up the phone while you’re in the middle of a game and both parties simultaneously screaming, “GODDAMNIT!”
I could think of a few things that my parents could have interrupted me doing much worse. You probably wouldn’t mind though, so I guess your statement is accurate.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:00 PM
Can’t wait for the boom coming in a few months. Got some money saved up for Batman and MW3, roommate already said he’s buying GoW3 and Skyrim.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:01 PM
Plus there’s the whole Wipeout thing.

I just saw there’s a Resurrection Map pack for CoD, so Zombie CoD maps? Sweet. Although I wasn’t a fan of the most recent edition.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:03 PM
Nice, sounds good.
I’m planning on FIFA ’12 and MW3. Still deciding on Battlefield 3 or not.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:03 PM
Between Oct 18th and Nov. 20th I’m planning on buying (or asking for Christmas): Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, MW3, Assassins Creed: Revelations and the new Zelda game. It better snow like all winter.

I texted a buddy last night who’s a Phillies fan expressing my disdain last night and told him how no one on the Cards gave a shit, and he told me the same thing.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:05 PM
Yeah Revelations is based in Constantople and you play as both Ezio and Altair. Plus ziplines and grenades. Fuck yeah.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:05 PM
My roommate is getting MW3 and I’m getting Battlefield 3. Should be bliss.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:05 PM
Oh, yea. Roommate would definitely be getting Revelations then too. I haven’t played any of the Assassins Creed games, but have watched enough of him play to get the whole story down, which happens to be a really cool story.
August 24th, 2011 at 4:06 PM
My XBox is primarily used for Netflix, but I still love playing sports games…except any NBA game…or Madden. FUCK YOU MADDEN!!!
August 24th, 2011 at 4:08 PM
That’s a nice set-up, saves some money. My b-day’s the end of November so I’ll probably just have my mom buy me MW3 as an early gift, that’s how I got Black Ops.

Gamer talk!
Anybody see what GameStop is doing with copies of the new ‘Deus Ex’ game? They are taking out free game coupons that come with each copy of the game, because the coupons are promoting a competitor’s service. Then, they are selling each game as ‘new’ for the full retail price.

August 24th, 2011 at 4:17 PM
I usually feel the same way, but the Madden 12 demo was fun and I haven’t gotten a new Madden in a few years.
And Amazon and other retailers were offering $20 credit or gift cards with a preorder. Plus, I had $20 credit from buying NCAA 12, so I get Madden for $40 and have $20 that will go towards MW3.

Olbermann is the worst.
