Why Did Kirk Herbstreit Give Up His Vote in the AP Poll? [UPDATE]
Pollspeak has a breakdown of the Associated Press voter changes from 2010 to 2011, and even though everyone agrees rankings are now silly and worthless and will always screw the non-BCS schools, they’re still championed as if they matter.
The only name here that’s interesting is ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit. According to Pollspeak, he’s given up his vote in the AP poll this year. Wonder why? I reached out to ESPN this morning, hoping Herbstreit would answer that question. Nothing yet.
ESPN’s Chris Fowler and Craig James will still cast ballots, though.
[UPDATE: From ESPN - "When he had his Columbus radio show, Herbstreit had been considered an Ohio voter by AP (vs. a National voter like Chris Fowler). When Herbstreit moved to Nashville, he was no longer eligible to be an Ohio voter, so AP took him off."]

It’s also possible that Herbstreit’s vote was geographically based in Ohio, and not premised on his ESPN gig, in which case his moving out of Ohio could have played a part. I notice that there is a new Ohio voter this year, Matt Markey from Toledo.
