Terrelle Pryor to the Raiders Means Oakland Has No 2nd, 3rd or 4th Round Picks in 2012
Terrelle Pryor – one of the most hyped athletes in recent high school football history – didn’t win a title at Ohio State and was part of the downfall of legendary coach Jim Tressel and the program … and now he’s been selected in the 3rd round of the NFL’s Supplemental draft by the Oakland Raiders.
The first words out of everyone’s mouth: Perfect fit. The Raiders and Pryor are brash, make woefully poor decisions, and continually under-deliver. Pryor will either be the 4th string QB behind Jason Campbell, Trent Edwards and Kyle Boller – what a motley crew that is – or he’ll get some run at H-back, tight end or receiver. Well, that’s after he serves that bogus five-game suspension.
I’m going to guess Pryor will see time at QB this season. Campbell, whom I’ve always liked, already has a concussion. Edwards has had a few in his career. And Kyle Boller – he of the hot wife – is just terrible. Why not give Pryor some run at QB?
As for the rebuilding Raiders – don’t tell me they’re “close”; this team has more holes than Casey Anthony’s defense – their 2012 draft should be comical. They have a 1st round pick … and then won’t pick again until the 5th round. [NYT]

so… the opposing team will still lose on a blown call by the officials even though they scored more point?
interesting and thought provoking analogy to the raiders.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:45 PM
WR not QB.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:45 PM
The Raiders are going to win the Superbowl!
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:46 PM
Link?
So they’ll win?
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:47 PM
Hmm, perhaps targeting Darren McFadden early in the 2nd round in fantasy is a bad idea. If Campbell can’t stay healthy then there will truly be no passing threat.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:47 PM
don’t tell me they’re “close”; this team has more holes than Casey Anthony’s defense
Um, yeah, I’m just going let wilhelmreems speek for me here.
6-0 in division last year. What a shitty division.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:47 PM
So…more than 3?
If that is the case, then it would be a good gamble because it is basically getting your third round draft pick a year earlier.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:47 PM
This might actually help them in the long run, less picks to fuck up.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:47 PM
/more accurate
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:49 PM
I think you can lump Trent Edwards into the “just terrible” category as well. Ask Bills fans.
Honestly, Pryor could very well make a decent NFL WR. He’s so big, he’d be great in the red zone.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:50 PM
For being so inept, the Raiders actually have a Super Bowl appearance in the past decade, unlike other overhyped teams.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:50 PM
They’ll have supplemental picks in between those two for losing Asomugha, Miller, and Gallery this year.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:50 PM
As for the rebuilding Raiders – don’t tell me they’re “close”; this team has more holes than Casey Anthony’s defense
but they’ll still win @MIA and @JAX…
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:51 PM
They’ll likely cut Edwards or Boller once the suspension is up. Looks like Edwards is taking the lead for #2.
/I know you are all riveted
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:52 PM
He really doesn’t like contact. Some of that may have been coaching to get him to avoid contact, but any comments of him being a TE in the League is just absurd.
But, at WR, he could be ridiculously good in the red zone. I’m not sure he would go over the middle, but would be great on the fade.
I’m still not sure why so many NFL expert think Cam Newton was a #1 draft pick, yet want to tear down Terrelle. I don’t think either is a sure fire NFL QB. But, I really don’t see much that Newton does which Pryor didn’t (other than the obvious).
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:52 PM
They will probably have several supplemental picks between those.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:52 PM
Why did they let Gallery walk, Babar?
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:53 PM
put him on the practice squad this year and give him every opportunity to succeed at X position next year.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:53 PM
You mean compensatory.
/goes back to picking nits
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:54 PM
Probably because they saw Cam use more of that dual threat in college than Pryor did. TP didn’t really run a whole lot, nor did Tressel have designed runs for him except in rare instances.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:54 PM
Obviously Davis is a shell of a the innovator/coach that made him a legend.
Still, I find it highly amusing that he will repeatedly abstain from official league votes.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:55 PM
Why did they let Gallery walk, Babar?
pretty sure all three of those losses were due to cap issues.
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:55 PM
Football folks, I need a catchy FFL team name for one of my leagues. I’m getting creative block…
August 22nd, 2011 at 4:56 PM
I kinda agree with Ray Ratto on this.
(for non tweeters)

i am sure pryor will somehow hold a presser announcing a delay in his “decision” to join the raiders.

Haha, SI.com tells the tale on the front page: “A Typical Raiders Selection”

August 22nd, 2011 at 5:00 PM
He liked Cable…didn’t like that they fired him. They sat down with him early and they both decided to move on.
It was not a surprise he ended up in Seattle.

August 22nd, 2011 at 5:02 PM
Word is, Miller was not an Al Davis guy, and he doesn’t think TE’s are worth that much.
Asomugha could have been kept money wise, but they gave most of it to Routt and (ugh) Wimbley.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:02 PM
According to Scout, Mark Sanchez was a higher rated recruit than Terrelle Pryor. Of course, he did lead USC to all of those national titles.

Vaginars hatin’ Niners?
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:03 PM
That’s true, but when do NFL guys look at a QB’s running presence? I thought it was more negative than positive to be a dual threat guy.
Tress never used TP to the best of his athletic ability because he was trying to make him a QB first. He rarely got the guy into space to make those run/pass option plays that a guy of his athletic ability can do in his sleep. It was frustrating to watch at times. But, from a development standpoint, it was understandable.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:04 PM
I hope we don’t end up sharing a stadium with these asshats.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:04 PM
Seriously…arguing that Pryor is a bust is asinine. It says so much about the person in terms of CFB knowledge.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:04 PM
Michael Vick’s season last year may have pushed it towards the positive.

This isn’t bad…
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:06 PM
Yup. Had Pryor gone to Oregon he would have won a Heisman. That offense would have been perfect for him.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:06 PM
Speaking for all Raiders fans….Al Davis just go ahead and die already.
Yes, yes I know – he’s been dead for ten years, etc. ad infintum
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:06 PM
Not that I agree with making Newton the #1 overall pick, but he has a much stronger arm than Pryor, and seemingly more accurate. Pryor footwork is teh suck to boot.
My favorite Pryor comparison I saw on today was a less experienced Tarvarus Jackson.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:06 PM
He’s doing it on Twitter again by re-posting that link there and on the bottom of this post. Just an absurd argument.

Are you worried about them limiting the white wine spritzers at the concessions if 49ers fans share a stadium?
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:07 PM
jck – I was texting my Niner fan friend on Saturday during the game. After Smith threw his first pick, he said that will be the season in a nutshell. After the game was over, all I got was “Alex Smith has a dick up his ass and I want to kill him.”
At least Braylon made that nice one handed catch.

August 22nd, 2011 at 5:11 PM
It truly is. You’ll see him have decent stats, as he did Saturday, and make bonehead plays to kill us when it matters. Three things we have to hope for:
1. The running game is in beast mode all year
2. The defense wins us 2 games singlehandedly against non NFC West opponents
3. Kaepernick develops quickly
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:11 PM
Add today to that list.
Terrelle’s Tatooapalooza is solid.
Tebow’s Monks is a year late.
The Corpse of Al Davis is and always will be valid.

Damn it. I’ve been swamped at work for 2 weeks (not a bad thing) and I’ve missed a lot. TBL trolling days are always entertaining.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:14 PM
Is this an appropriate comparison? I’m thinking Pryor is probably a little bigger than Curry was.
Oakland is the last place I’d want to go if I was a college QB trying to change position.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:14 PM
Twidget and the Hedgehog is great. A logo of the two would be even better.
You know who the Hedgehog is. Twidget is a bit less mainstream and definitely NSFW to Google…

this first sentence from TBL
Terrelle Pryor – one of the most hyped athletes in recent high school football history

Shit.
And I hate that little fucker but he needs to be healthy for the good of the game.

Hope he’s not the next Pat Lafontaine or Eric Lindros.

Or Marc Savard… but it’s starting to look more and more like that’s the case. David Steckel is going to get death threats over this.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:22 PM
Looks more like it with every new report. Here’s hoping that Sid makes it back healthy… for the good of the league. As for mouth breathing Pittburghers…

That’s a fairly big name to leave ESPN. They lose a 5 PM SportsCenter anchor and a national radio show host.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:32 PM
I love how people dog a QB and say he won’t make it in the NFL because he has to take the snap from under center on the one hand, then turn around and say, man, that guy is big, make him a TE/WR. It’s easy!
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:33 PM
But Sanchez wasn’t rated higher. They were both #1, right?
#1 QB. Sanchez was a higher rated (relative to the recruiting year) recruit.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:33 PM

True, but you know what I mean.
August 22nd, 2011 at 5:42 PM
That would require the ability to speak and or write in complete sentences? I already feel the pressure…
Is it too late for the Raiders to pick up that former OSU WR Small who ran his mouth about the OSU program? That would mean a lot to Buckeye fans.

August 22nd, 2011 at 6:14 PM
These guys can surprise a lot of people by going undefeated in the West and 8-8 for a year, but they are still the Raiders and won’t be worth a damn until Al Davis stops being in control of the team.
August 22nd, 2011 at 6:30 PM
I know tbl was most likely trolling with these comments buy Pryor has done pretty much everything you would ask from a highly touted recruit; beat your rivals, win the conference, win bcs games
August 22nd, 2011 at 6:31 PM
Of course the Raiders grabbed him. I mean seriously, of course they did.
