Agreed on pretty much all counts. She also tweets great pics of herself. Aubrey O’Day is probbaly the best example of a woman that men love, yet other women hate. Scarlett Johannsen also fits into this category.
August 19th, 2011 at 8:46 AM

TBF, she should be naked and with her ass up in the air. She’s already got the make-up on and that would make it easier to identify.

I am. I gotta go to work afterwards, but I’ll be up.
Arsenal have a mini-crisis in that between the injured (Wilshere, Gibbs, Djourou) and the suspended (Song, Gervinho), we’re likely going to give kids like Frimpong and Jenkinson a start and could feature Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ryo Miyaichi.

Drummond is going pro, not sure McGary might follow but he has major academic issues and ADHD issues in the past that could push him there. The interesting thing is he hasn’t really changed as a player when he was a 2011 prospect, however this summer he was 19 playing mainly against 17 yr olds and some 15 and 16 yr olds playing up. I have my reservations if he is really a top 5 player or just beating up on undersized kids since most of his game is based on his physicallity. I forgot where he was ranked when he was a 2011 kid, but I don’t think he was in the top 50.

August 19th, 2011 at 9:34 AM
That’s the problem. People, especially in this generation are not living within their means. I can totally buy a majority of people making this much struggling to keep their head above water, which would lend to people calling them middle class.
August 19th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
The WSJ editorial was wrong to classify 200k as “middle class”, but the point being made is sound. Go ahead and increase taxes on the extreme rich, but it won’t make a dent on the revenue side because there are simply not enough of them.

That bit on Denver sports business is woefully incomplete, seeing as they’re evidently only taking into account the Denver/Aurora part of the metro area and leaving the rest of the Front Range out. Denver teams tend to be regional; meet lots of people tailgating who drove down from Montana or up from New Mexico.
Also, that Aubrey O’Day chick probably smells like old wet towels.

That said, RVP and Arshavin vs the back 4 y’all got right now? I take that!
* Sigh*! Sadly yes; they don’t have anyone to match Arshavin’s speed in that back line. I don’t know much about the new midfielders that ‘Pool acquired; if they’re defensive minded or not.

August 19th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
The WSJ editorial was wrong to classify 200k as “middle class”, but the point being made is sound. Go ahead and increase taxes on the extreme rich, but it won’t make a dent on the revenue side because there are simply not enough of them.
Did you watch the Stewart piece last night? It explains this. Why is it that taxing the rich wouldn’t make a dent, but if you taxed HALF of EVERYTHING “poor/middle class” people have, it would still only equal the exact same amount of money you’d generate by taxing the rich. It doesn’t make sense.

well, then, if you think about it, Rick Reilly’s “point” was probably pretty stupid. Since Cincy isn’t getting anywhere near the hard cap, at all.

I don’t understand the 3 or 4 person household living in a 5000 Sq/ft home with 6 Bedrooms and 5 bathrooms and a finished basement and struggling to make payments. Isn’t that too much house? There have to be rooms that aren’t stepped in for weeks. I’d rather have a modest house, but put a ton of nice shit in it and have $$ for travel, etc.
August 19th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
200K for one person, it’s entering the territory. I know if i was single and making 200K i’d be living a pretty expensive and wasteful life.

* Sigh*! Sadly yes; they don’t have anyone to match Arshavin’s speed in that back line. I don’t know much about the new midfielders that ‘Pool acquired; if they’re defensive minded or not.
Henderson is young. He’s going to make mistakes. Adam is a solid midfielder; not flashy but not prone to mistakes. Meireles is the one guy I’m most worried about — he’s a quality midfielder who doesn’t get a lot of credit. Lucas Leiva is hit-or-miss…literally.
The problem is that if they’re not careful, they can expose the back line.

Real spending entails defense. Oh and one way to take care a lot of the funding for Social Sec & Medicare is to raise the cap on the level of income that gets taxed. $104,000 needs to be upped to like $500-$750k.

August 19th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
I agree with this, but the stat about the 47% getting off is a bit misleading, and those who keep saying it know that. It’s all politics. The Daily Show did a great job of showing that last night. Fox News is up in arms about class warfare against the rich all the while waging it against the poor. Both sides do it.
August 19th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
it is. our house is similar to a friend who bought in PA for $100,000 less than us. but PA wasn’t an option.
also, friends live down the street from us, during our appraisal we found out how much they paid for their house, and we made out like bandits.
August 19th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
Everyone does have some skin in the game. If the $50,000-$75,000 crowd represents a ton of families just sneaking by paying a lot of state and local taxes in the form of property, sales, and state income… but federal tax deductions like home mortgage and child tax credits bring that way down.
Those people don’t have “no skin in the game”. The game is just really fucking complicated.
August 19th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
tax rate for the rich needs to go up. they pay most of our taxes, and own most of the wealth. its not hard.
entitlement programs (food stamps, medicare, etc) need a major overhaul with more reporting and stips required to receive assistants. also, and this horse is dead beyond repair, cut the pointless war we are in in half. i understand some troops need to be over there to keep up appearences, but not all.
nothing will happen, because as a whole, we seem to become a nation that does not pay bills or budgets correctly, and deserves whatever we want.

Everyone needs to have a little skin in the game, otherwise we are left with representation without taxation
So tax the next level above the marginal poor and have them bear the cost of fixing our economy?
That’s just a recipe to create more poor, which creates more social services’ dependents, which creates more need for government support, which creates more pressure on the economy.
So we’re back to square 1.

Although, I’m not in the camp of saying those who are having a hard time paying rent should pay more in taxes, the point that should be highlighted is that our tax system is messed up. You can tax the rich more, sure. I’m sure their extremely smart accountants won’t find a million ways to avoid paying it…
Tax reform. Lower rates while taking away loopholes and deductions, but keep the ones for charities and foundations and make the “rate incline” steeper. If you are poor pay 5%, middle class 10% over 200k 25%, over $10mil 30%…something like that.

August 19th, 2011 at 10:08 AM
If you make more than $73k you lose this tax credit.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
But more importantly, stop people from shitting out kids.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
The federal government essentially pays a married couple $1000 each year for your first kid. I think it goes down per child, but I’m not sure how much.
By no means am I saying having a kid is smart financial decision. That is insane. I’m just trying to explain why families who have middle class salaries end up with little to no federal income tax burden.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
And I don’t think middle class or the poor have it too good, like FOX would have you believe. That is also insane. I’m just stating the facts.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:12 AM
As a single person. (right?) Married it’s twice that.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
If you don’t want to contribue any federal tax revenue, that’s fine — as long as you give up your right to vote in national elections. Sounds like a fair trade-off
Well that was the way our Founding Fathers set it up. Only tax payers (land owners) could vote.
Women didn’t pay taxes and so they couldn’t vote.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
if i refuse to pay taxes, am 3/5 of a person, and allow my voting rights to be revoked, can i still play your private country club course when i want? if so, we have a deal.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
Did I miss the memo that said the middle and lower class would get to stop paying taxes all together if the rich people start paying more income taxes?
August 19th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
Hell fucking yes. Glad I knocked up the Mrs.
/straight cash homey
August 19th, 2011 at 10:15 AM
I am more on Mike’s side on this one. I don’t think it’s right (if it’s true) that 47% of the people don’t pay Federal Income Tax. I’m old, and it seems to me that it wasn’t this way 20-30 years ago before things like the earned income credit and all of that other stuff started creeping into the tax code.
I AM curious, though, and Mike has never answered this: He often says the top x percent pay y percent of the taxes but never answers what percent of the income that x percent earn.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:15 AM
Yes thats correct as a single person its $73k. The wife already paid off her loans, but I’ve got a a good amount to go though.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:16 AM
Fox News and Barista Mike would have you believe this.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:17 AM
The second part of the question really hurts their argument, though. That’s why you never hear the answer.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:17 AM
Did I miss the memo that said the middle and lower class would get to stop paying taxes all together if the rich people start paying more income taxes?
It’s either-or, SG. No sane solutions are allowed!

August 19th, 2011 at 10:19 AM
I never click a link from someone I don’t know, so I haven’t noticed.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:19 AM
I honestly don’t know, but it’s irrelevant — there is no fixed income pie which states only X amount of money can be earned by the national population. You can grow the pie.
This is more a debate of the rhetoric. Namely, of how The One has hijacked the English language when it comes to “fairness.” If you don’t pay any federal income tax then it seems rather unreasonable to complain about other people not paying their “fair share”, when they are paying x amount more than you are.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:19 AM
“earn” is the key word here.
i agree with mike that taxing the rich simply for being ambitious and successful isn’t right. it’d make more sense to tax their heirs who didn’t contribute to earning it by taxing life insurance proceeds for estates over a certain amount as long as they’re not tied into a business arrangement. or get rid of the lifetime gift exemption if you make over a certain figure per year.
it’s too easy to keep assets out of your taxable estate and heirs don’t deserve shit if they don’t take advantage of their privileged upbringing.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:19 AM
If you don’t want to contribue any federal tax revenue, that’s fine — as long as you give up your right to vote in national elections. Sounds like a fair trade-off.
sure, sounds fair. we preclude everyone that lives in a state that recieves more in federal aid than the state contributes in federal taxes from voting as well, right?
/pays federal taxes and has no member of Congress representing my interests
//the Nation’s capital is full of second-class citizens
August 19th, 2011 at 10:20 AM
Then what’s the answer?
August 19th, 2011 at 10:20 AM
The percentage of middle class folks buying everyday things like groceries, clothing and gasoline is much higher than the percentage of the rich buying the same. Even the rich’s massive purchases – properties, yachts, vacations – coupled with their grocery and gas buying don’t equal the everyday buying of the middle class.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:21 AM
I’ve asked him that question. He’ll never answer it.

Mike: The bottom 80% (as of 2007) own 15% of the total net worth and 7% of the financial wealth.

August 19th, 2011 at 10:22 AM
It’s EXTREMELY relevant. These statistics and tax rates you keep throwing out don’t exist in a fucking vacuum.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:23 AM
It’s true, I don’t know the answer to every tax-related question posed on TheBigLead.com. Please accept my apologies.
Maybe one of you can do the legwork and actually look it up since you’re so interested?
Nah.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:23 AM
There is a reason Bush told everyone to “go shopping”.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
Relevant to what?
August 19th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
If the top 10 percent have 80 percent of the income, what percentage of the income tax should they pay? I think Mike would say it should be well less than 80 percent, where most here think it should be more than 80 since the “poor” don’t have extra money and things like sales tax are regressive. I personally don’t think it fair that we “punish” the rich for their success…wouldn’t mind a flat tax.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
One of the many good Bush quotes. That man was pure gold in that category.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:26 AM
Thanks. So the top 20% worked their ass off to accumulate 85% of the country’s net worth.
And?
August 19th, 2011 at 10:26 AM
That half of Americans don’t pay federal income tax.
I’ve said this before…EVERYBODY should be paying taxes, but we need to control the income gap before we tackle the tax rate.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:26 AM
the rich would pay less than they already are while the less advantaged would be killed by a flat tax.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:27 AM
Who pays no income tax?
It’s not one person making $50K-$75K a year, it’s a married couple each bringing in $20K-$30K a year. The total numbers also include eldery who have very little income (if any at all). This makes much more sense to me.
Nothing like painting with a broad brush to make it sound like individuals earning $50K a year pay nothing in taxes.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:27 AM
So the top 20% worked their ass off
ha. for every mark cuban there’s 5 trust fund brats or children that were just handed the reigns of daddy’s business.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:28 AM
You asked, I gave you the info.
All of this. For some reason this fact falls on deaf ears to many people. There is a reason we don’t have a flat tax, people. It would CRUSH the poor.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
wouldn’t mind a flat tax.
the rich would pay less than they already are while the less advantaged would be killed by a flat tax
this. That’s Econ 101.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
come on dude. You have no idea how much effort it took for the majority of the rich people in this country make their money.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
It’s called finding a better job. No easier way to “control” the “income gap.”
August 19th, 2011 at 10:30 AM

I know most of you like to believe that the Paris Hilton’s of the world are the standard, but it’s true: all those doctors, lawyers and I-bankers out there — they actually went to school and work 70+ hours a week for their money.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:31 AM
It’s called finding a better job.
Okay. Problem solved. I’ll just start looking for one of those 100k a year jobs that are so plentiful right now.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
The income gap is a jobs problem. You can have lots and lots of very rich people. That is great. Good for them, doesn’t necessarily hurt anyone.
You just can’t have everyone else either unemployed or working at Wal-Mart. Which, unfortunately, has been the trend line for some time.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
Whether people want to admit it or not, having such a massive income gap is not a good thing. Now, before you channel Sean Hannity, I’m not saying we should cap wages or anything like that. I am saying that ignoring the problem and saying “just go get a better job” is pretty damn dumb.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
I do three out of four of these (no kids) and I pay taxes. are kids really that much of a tax break? me don’t think so.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
That half of Americans don’t pay federal income tax.
I’ve said this before…EVERYBODY should be paying taxes, but we need to control the income gap before we tackle the tax rate.
EVERYONE pays taxes. some people don’t pay federal income tax, but those individuals pay a large percentage of their income in sales, gasoline, state and local taxes.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
that’s why we need to focus on estate tax reform…heirs do not deserve ridiculous wealth if they haven’t contributed to any it. THAT’S who should be taxed the most.
getting a relatively tax free vault full of cash just for being a lucky sperm is bullshit.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
Sounds easy to me! Why haven’t all you dumb fucks gone out and found a better job yet? You’re clearly so much lazier than all the rich people!
August 19th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
What was fair was the rich paying 70% marginal tax rate, supplying paying good jobs to the middle class while GDP grew 5% per year for the majority of the decade. Oh and it had a Republican president that helped pass the greatest public works program in the history of our country.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
Oh, and don’t forget the payroll tax, which is highly regressive, and has a ceiling.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
I don’t think the rich would be “punished” by having their tax rates returned to pre Bush tax cut levels. “Punishment” would be the tax rates from the 50′s. By the way, this country’s rich didn’t seem to be suffering so much during that level of “punishment”

August 19th, 2011 at 10:34 AM
We argue about taxes because everyone sees the debt figures and freaks out.
We have the debt figures because of the jobs problem. Not because the rich aren’t pay their fair share or because the poor or middle class have it too good.
We are underemployed and the too many of the employed aren’t making as good a wage as we used to make.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:34 AM

August 19th, 2011 at 10:35 AM
Exactly. There are so many factors in play here. What we should do is give companies tax credits for keeping jobs in the states (or hit them with additional taxes if they opt to pay Sundeep 15 cents an hour). Right now the wealthiest are getting more and more, yet they aren’t producing job because they make more money by using dirt cheap labor elsewhere. I’m all for tax breaks on companies that keep jobs here or bring new ones stateside.

Not in the same % as a rich person. The federal tax on gasoline (poor people can vote now, Mike!) is a bigger portion of a poor person’s wallet, by far.

Of course some people are more ambitious than others. Some are more skilled, more talented.
It’s the notion that those differences explain the economy or should form an economic philosophy that is wrong.
By all means, be ambitious. But social Darwinism takes you to some scary places.

I agree with you, with some caveats. One, it is true that if you are poor you are more likely to get a shitty elementary/high school education. And two, the cost of higher education is accelerating faster than financial aid (or anyone’s wages for that matter) can keep up.
Public college tuition is getting huge. And going to private college almost never makes financial sense at this point.

add in the fact that everyone in this country has an opportunity to get a college degree, even the dirt poor can do so with the financial aid system we have.
This is part of the problem, I think. Not everyone should go to college, but we have created a system where everyone feels the need to and then expects to get that $100,000 job when they get out (having taken $75,000 in loans). When they end up working at Wal-Mart, this becomes a problem. Another part of the problem is the good jobs that once existed for non-college types, simply don’t exist in this country anymore.

The issue of “fair” comes into play when you take the income a person makes and reduce it by a minimum standard of living for that person and everyone else he/she is financially responsible for (read: kids, or in my case wife and kids) and then take all of the everyday taxes that everyone pays (gas, sales, etc.) as a percentage of the remaining money. For someone that makes $30k/year, those taxes are a helluva lot higher percentage of their remaining income than for someone that makes $200k. So federal income tax is graduated to reduce this gap – and it still doesn’t get anywhere close to evening things out. If you include all taxes paid: income, sales, property, etc. as a percentage of income, poor people pay a much higher burden than the rich.

What we should do is give companies tax credits for keeping jobs in the states (or hit them with additional taxes if they opt to pay Sundeep 15 cents an hour).
