Chris Davis of the Orioles is Headed to the DL Due to a Shoulder Injury He Aggravated While Sleeping
Last year it was difficult to pick a winner for Weakest Baseball Injury of the Season. It was basically a tie – Russell Branyan was hurt closing the curtains and later when he fell out of a plastic chair and Mat Latos went on the DL when he held back a sneeze. This year, Chris Davis of the Orioles appears to be the clubhouse leader. Davis, who was acquired from Texas last month, had some shoulder soreness, and then slept on his shoulder wrong, and now he’s headed to the DL.
Davis, who is 9-for-40 (.225) with a homer and three RBIs in 10 games for the Orioles, missed four games on the last homestand because of shoulder soreness that was aggravated when he slept on it wrong in Kansas City, Mo. An MRI revealed wear and tear on his labrum and rotator cuff. Davis wanted to play through it, but his condition is not getting any better.
In actual baseball, the Red Sox lost again, and the Yankees are up a full game in the AL East. That’s the best pennant race in baseball, except it isn’t really one, since both teams are postseason bound. And now that Justin Verlander is in beast mode, the AL East winner will probably have to see the best pitcher in the league twice in the first round. Verlander or Texas? Pick your poison.
The game to keep an eye on tonight – that’s if you’re not watching the U-20 World Cup semfinals – is Philadelphia vs. Arizona. The Diamondbacks are streaking, and surged to a 3.5 game lead over the Giants in the NL West. [Davis injury via Hot Clicks]

There is a joke in here involving “the stranger,” but I’ll refrain.

BTW, very common for shoulder problems to be aggravated during sleep.

darn, Bones beat me – bad pun – to the Stranger comment

Hmmm, I could see the same concept applied….

This story necessitates bringing up Marty Cordova’s tanning injury while he played for the Orioles.

Does Angelos have any sons or daughters? He can’t live forever. Unless of course he makes whatever deal with the devil Al Davis and Donald Sterling made.
August 17th, 2011 at 7:32 PM
With our luck, he’ll live forever. Piece of fucking shit that he is.
August 17th, 2011 at 7:36 PM
I don’t know that this should even elicit a sigh, Billy. When I was a little bit excited that the O’s got him I realized that was a big problem. At least he’s hitting at a higher than usual clip. But .225 seems unsustainable for him anyway.

On the bright side, they’ll probably fire Buck after the season so next year is a surefire World Series, right? Please?
August 17th, 2011 at 7:38 PM
It’s not even this really, it’s just another thing. This team is such a mess that I just don’t even get excited about anything they do right anymore.

Hey now, those things can be dangerous. Lean back at the wrong angle and the leg will just snap.

Yep. Even getting that kid that Boras was saying would need $30M to sign for “only” $5M just made me think, “Brian Matusz. Oh, well. There’s always another top 5 pick next year.”
August 17th, 2011 at 7:47 PM
It’s a true shame that once again the Orioles suck in a terribly awful yet amusing way. But not really.
August 17th, 2011 at 7:47 PM
Brian Matusz makes me sad. Fuck it all.

That’s pretty good. The best ones I get are poor translations, like the one that said “Actions speak louder than talks.”

Serious question, Hernia – is it amusing?
August 17th, 2011 at 8:04 PM
Prove it doesn’t.

it’s not a beisbol injury, per se, but my wife and I were sitting on the beach two nights ago tossing seashells at a crab about 20 feet away and I got a cramp in my forearm. it was sore the next morning.

By the by, Thome hit 601 earlier tonight. Wonder when he goes on the waiver wire for a contender.
