Down Goes the U: Yahoo Sports Drills the Miami Hurricanes
An 11-month investigation into the Miami Hurricanes by Yahoo Sports has found that Nevin Shapiro, the “Ponzi Scheme King” of Miami provided the following benefits to athletes:
cash, prostitutes, entertainment in his multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and on one occasion, an abortion.
Sounds like a swell guy. The photos that accompany the story are fantastic – nearly as tremendous as the reporting (though Kellen Winslow may cringe). In a jail cell somewhere, Teddy Dupay must be shaking his head. And I bet Missouri is thrilled it hired Frank Haith to be its new basketball coach. I haven’t read the entire story, but we’ll comb through it tonight and pluck the best tidbits. Like how Shapiro placed $5k bounties on the heads of Tim Tebow and Chris Rix for hard hits.
How thorough was Yahoo in the investigation?
Yahoo! Sports audited approximately 20,000 pages of financial and business records from his bankruptcy case, more than 5,000 pages of cell phone records, multiple interview summaries tied to his federal Ponzi case, and more than 1,000 photos. Nearly 100 interviews were also conducted with individuals living in six different states. In the process, documents, photos and 21 human sources – including nine former Miami players or recruits, and one former coach – corroborated multiple parts of Shapiro’s rule-breaking.
Obviously, this should be required reading tonight.
One outstanding thing to remember while reading: Paul Dee was the Miami AD from 1993-2008. So a lot of what is detailed in this story went down on his watch. You know what his title is now? was until last summer? Chairman of the NCAA Committee on Infractions. Wonder how he’s feeling tonight.

It’s like 10,000 spoons, when all you need is a knife.

Wonder how he’s feeling tonight.
Bullet proof and made of teflon? Please tell me the answer is bullet proof and made of teflon. He’s OK, U’s OK.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:15 PM
It’s like 10,000 spoons, when all you need is a knife.
+a lot.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:16 PM
I’d love to see Kellen Winslow get all huffy with his denial of all this. Revisit the soldier line, perhaps?
August 16th, 2011 at 7:17 PM

Also, I think this is what some in the south might call putting the fox in charge of the henhouse. Why oh why did the head of the infractions committee in the mid 80s have to be Texas grad David Berst….
August 16th, 2011 at 7:18 PM
Honestly does anyone care?
August 16th, 2011 at 7:18 PM
Soldiers tend to get discounts from prostitutes.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:21 PM
Honestly does anyone care?
Well, yeah….if the charges are true, then these are some heavy violations.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:21 PM
Love how Yahoo is getting all this credit…oh b/c they “audited” some records. The dude spoon-fed them everything…bleacher report could have “broken” this. I made that last part up.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:22 PM
Is this the “10″ story? Does Paul Dee’s involvement make it a 10?
August 16th, 2011 at 7:22 PM
I’m sure this happens at every university with major college sports, it doesn’t matter. If you’re jaded to believe this isn’t happening at some level at every Div. I school, well I don’t know what to tell you.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:22 PM
So is this the 10? Because if it is I’m disappointed.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:23 PM
OSU showed once and for all how to handle these things. Self-report (which Miami is saying they’ve been cooperating with the NCAA since the first day they learned of this dude spouting off). So if the coaches are gone and their athletic department has already experienced a house cleaning…what’s the worst they can get?)
August 16th, 2011 at 7:23 PM
But then why didn’t another ‘news source’ discover this. Why didn’t you unearth this?
August 16th, 2011 at 7:23 PM
Honestly does anyone care?
I think you’re on to something here. Nobody cares. Paul Dee, if you’re reading this, nobody cares. See? Problem solved. No investigation necessary because nobody cares
August 16th, 2011 at 7:25 PM
This is much worse than OSU. God knows if anything will actually happen. They’ll probably just vacate some games and give some money to the NCAA.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:25 PM
Love it.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:26 PM
Honestly does anyone care?
I like how Mizzou hired another piece of shit again. That’s exciting.
/Going to read the article to see if that is actually true or if TBL just needed a quick tweet-link.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:26 PM
So if the coaches are gone and their athletic department has already experienced a house cleaning…what’s the worst they can get?
Vacate the wins. All of em. From 2006-2010. You can have all of those wins. Coker, Shannon and Storm Johnson engineered this whole ball of shit. Sorry, UTSA, but that’s the way these things work out some times. You’ll find a new coach in no time. Rumors are already swirling around Mike Leach
August 16th, 2011 at 7:27 PM
Cursed
I’m also a big OSU fan. I’m sure you have seen the bias by ESPN/SI thus far. But my question is where do you see OSU finishing this year? I got them at least 9 wins, most likely 10, perhaps 11 based on talent alone.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:28 PM
still waiting on ESPN to say something…
August 16th, 2011 at 7:31 PM
These are pretty bad allegations but they probably won’t amount to much. He came to the NCAA 11 months ago? Say, that’s right about the same time Shalala & Co started looking for a new coach. TBL, you should love this guy. He’s clearly just paying the players what the market will bear
August 16th, 2011 at 7:32 PM
Vlad, I’m nervous that all the close games – that in the past Tressel had managed beautifully (and probably better than any coach in the country) will turn into losses. Now you could argue Fickell will keep the foot on the pedal more, but Tressel sure did blow out more teams than he gets credit for.
So I’m thinking they lose at least 4 games just based on a new QB alone. Look at Texas and Florida last year. Even though OSU will be more talented than every team they play this year (I have no qualms in saying that), you’re still gonna drop games necessarily based on inexperience from the QB (not to mention..the coach)
August 16th, 2011 at 7:33 PM
2 hrs in and you’re unimpressed. you were expecting … what, exactly?
August 16th, 2011 at 7:33 PM
Cursed – done any shows recently? I’m never on twitter.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:34 PM
Interesting … wonder if the NCAA BoD will take any action with Paul Dee.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:35 PM
12 if they find a QB, 13 if their defense comes together, and 14 with a little luck.
/8 or 9
August 16th, 2011 at 7:36 PM
As a Cane fan I can still find humor in the fact that Chris Rix had a bounty on his head. No wonder he was a walking INT. He was just trying to get off the field as quickly as possible.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:37 PM
Clearly, paying the players $300/gm will make all of this disappear.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:38 PM
Not with the report, the allegations are amazing. But…. Miami? This would have been a 10 a decade ago. Now it’s just eh. To have a 10 report you need a program that’s a 10, and Miami just isn’t any more.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:38 PM
Something betterthan this. This is like a 6 at best. Oh wait, we’re not talking about Jessica Alba?
August 16th, 2011 at 7:39 PM
What’s this 10 stuff everyone is talking about?
August 16th, 2011 at 7:40 PM
My life is upside down right now…will have some news pretty quick as to what’s next for me. But yeah, I’ve been doing some co-hosting on some two-hour shows.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:41 PM
I thought a Yahoo guy came on a sports talk radio show in Chicago and said they were working on a “10″ that would be unveiled in the fall. They said if OSU was a “6 or 7″ …this would be a “10″
August 16th, 2011 at 7:42 PM
What’s this 10 stuff everyone is talking about?
Yahoo’s been saying for about a month or so that they had a “10″, aka doozy, of a story about a school in the south giving improper benefits and what not.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:42 PM
I’m sure this happens at every university with major college sports, it doesn’t matter. If you’re jaded to believe this isn’t happening at some level at every Div. I school, well I don’t know what to tell you.
It matters if you get caught. Just like most other forms of cheating.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:43 PM
I often found a lot of those games managed way to close to the vest. If the special teams is legit this year and OSU goes back to running the ball and playing D. They should be able to beat teams like Wisky and Nebraska.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:44 PM
way to close to the vest
Nyuk, nyuk
August 16th, 2011 at 7:53 PM
I grazed over the story. But is there any possibility of current stars being suspended?
August 16th, 2011 at 7:57 PM
I just don’t see what the NCAA can do. The coaches are gone. You’re going to penalize the players and people who had nothing to do with it?
August 16th, 2011 at 7:58 PM
I just don’t see what the NCAA can do. The coaches are gone. You’re going to penalize the players and people who had nothing to do with it?
It would not exactly be the first time that happened. Hell when SMU got DPed (tee-hee) they let all scholarship players who wanted to, including those that had received payments, transfer to other schools without losing any eligibility.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:00 PM
But is there any possibility of current stars being suspended?
Ummm. What do you consider a star? They said 12 current players but didn’t name them.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:01 PM
Muhahahahahha. C’mon dude.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:02 PM
Otherwise known as Tuesday in South Beach.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:03 PM
on one occasion, an abortion
I bet it was Wilfork. He could carry a baby near to term without anybody noticing
August 16th, 2011 at 8:04 PM
I’m just saying a death penalty seems unlikely … Scholarships reduced … Take away wins (what few they had during that time anyways) … I doubt they kill the program though
August 16th, 2011 at 8:05 PM
Yeah, I don’t think they’ll get railed as hard as Ohio State
August 16th, 2011 at 8:09 PM
Clearly, paying the players $300/gm will make all of this disappear.
No thank you, sir, I have no interest in borrowing your yacht. I have this nice stipend to woo ladies with. A boat wouldn’t help me study up for college.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:10 PM
Culture tourney coming tomorrow.
and i think that if all this evidence holds up…they get it way worse than OSU
August 16th, 2011 at 8:11 PM
I’m just saying a death penalty seems unlikely … Scholarships reduced … Take away wins (what few they had during that time anyways) … I doubt they kill the program though
If they were an D-III school, they’d be fucked. But the U will be fine. Probation, maybe some scholarship reductions. I doubt a bowl ban or anything of that sort.
I just read yesterday that the last TV ban was back in the mid 90s. That’s absurd to me.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:12 PM
I would be shocked if I see another Death Penalty in my lifetime.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:14 PM
and i think that if all this evidence holds up…they get it way worse than OSU
Nah. It matters who your friends are. And unless there was some serious cover up, I don’t think they get it that bad. If yahoo is holding back for some reason then sure. But the guy making the allegations is currently rather disreputable and there has been a complete overhaul of the staff and the appearance so far of cooperation by the university
August 16th, 2011 at 8:15 PM
Damn it. I went on a Tuesday and left on Tuesday.
This Shapiro dude is the snitchiest snitch that ever fucking snitched.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:16 PM
IMHO, OSU is out of hell. Miami isn’t gonna get hurt too bad. OSU already got hammered despite what rival fan bases think.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:16 PM
I would be shocked if I see another Death Penalty in my lifetime.
You mean a D-I or FBS penalty I assume. Because there have been two others in our lifetime, including as recently as 2006-2007 (Macmurray College Men’s Tennis….the cheating assholes!)
August 16th, 2011 at 8:20 PM
This Shapiro dude is the snitchiest snitch that ever fucking snitched
Seriously! He’s a fucking grown man talking about having his feelings hurt by 18 year old dudes. Awful.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:23 PM
For real. You did these things you knew were wrong, and now that you got caught you want to sing the blues? No heart.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:23 PM
Could you please explain what the point of this is exactly..
August 16th, 2011 at 8:30 PM
Culture tourney is basically TBL’s favorite subjects. You will enjoy it. It’s basically a bunch of pop culture topics.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:31 PM
Doc –
Point? It’s fun!
August 16th, 2011 at 8:31 PM
Could you please explain what the point of this is exactly..
You must be new here. This is a particular type of sports blog where baseball is derided, golf is treated with condescension, any NFL team but the Jets is crap, and athlete penis pictures are considered ‘a get’.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:32 PM
Woohoo, Culture Tourney.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:32 PM
That being said, I do enjoy the Culture Tournament each year.
/talking out of both sides of my mouth.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:33 PM
was he the guy who did Disco Duck?
August 16th, 2011 at 8:33 PM
At least USC and Ohio St. where good when all the shit was going down. Pathetic.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:34 PM
I’ll assume the Culture Tourney will go up when I’m still fast asleep?
August 16th, 2011 at 8:35 PM
sweet. always fun.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:35 PM
I have always voted in it for the past few years just never knew what I was voting for. Every year some hot girl wins. My guess is the overrated Pippa will win this year.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:35 PM
My hope is this scandal results in serious sanctions, Golden ends up with an easy out, and he replaces JoePa after this year.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:35 PM
Also, Kate Upton is gonna stampede through this bitch like the Germans through Poland.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:36 PM
My guess is the overrated Pippa will win this year.
If CRM is counting the votes then this is correct
August 16th, 2011 at 8:37 PM
I stand corrected.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:37 PM
Pippa Middleton shouldn’t make it past JJ fucking Barea.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:38 PM
Early prediction is that a pretty girl will win…hopefully Aaron Rodgers’ Belt is included amongst the participants
August 16th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
Kate Upton will win. Easily.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
TBL
How bout you have a region for favorite drama? But break it up into 2 regions? Split it up between these….
Breaking Bad/Sons of Anarchy/ Dexter/ Justified/ Rescue Me etc
August 16th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
Early prediction is that a pretty girl will win
The oddsmakers take a beating….
August 16th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
Culture tourney coming tomorrow.
Ahh, damn it. I was hoping this went away since you didn’t do it in March this past year. I guess I’ll make snarky comments and vote anyway. You should have done this in July when shit was dead.
and i think that if all this evidence holds up…they get it way worse than OSU
Easily. This will be on Good Morning America, front page of sports pages, and Oprah (I know Oprah is not around. Those type of shows.) Free tatoos are one thing. An abortion, orgies on yachts and hotels, strips clubs, prostitutes, and tiny jewish men with self-esteem issues will move the fucking needle.
Also, Fuck Mizzou!!!
August 16th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
I think @iLikeGirlsDaily should at least be nominated. Changed my internet routing over night.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:41 PM
good luck with getting JoePa out of there.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:42 PM
I think I’m the only person in this state who would pick Sons of Anarchy over Justified. This state marks out for that show all the way.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:42 PM
Breaking Bad/Sons of Anarchy/ Dexter/ Justified/ Rescue Me etc
TBL has seen none of those shows.
/I’ve only seen BB and SoA.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:43 PM
No way is Pippa getting to the end, especially since it turns out her ass is a fake.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:43 PM
Also, Kate Upton is gonna stampede through this bitch like the Germans through Poland.
Indeed. A darkhorse would be TBl riggin the ballots for Blake “Sort-of Wrecked Face, Awesome Body” Lively. Kate Upton in a waltz.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:44 PM
Was it UW? We got it in 94 or 95, can’t remember which.
We’ll likely never see one again, because it punishes all the other teams that play the banned team.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:44 PM
Seal Team 6 vs Kate Upton in the Culture tourney. That’s the only way she isn’t winning.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:45 PM
/more accurate’d
August 16th, 2011 at 8:45 PM
Was it UW? We got it in 94 or 95, can’t remember which.
The article I read–sorry can’t remember where it was–didn’t say. But I do remember both UW and Auburn running into bans around the same time. Or was Auburn’s a bowl ban? Ritty? You around to help me remember?
August 16th, 2011 at 8:46 PM
Kate Upton will win. Easily.
queation for the men, not boys:
19yo upton or 45yo berry?
one’s got the 19yo body, but maybe is a spoiled child with no menskills (wink wink) while the other is still smokin and may be able to turn your penis into fruit by the foot
August 16th, 2011 at 8:47 PM
How much of Berry is makeup and lighting? Plus hasn’t Berry pushed out a few kids? Also she’s been with Eric Benet, so that’s -1000.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:48 PM
Final Four of those two things and what other two? Game of Thrones? I’m at a loss right now.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:48 PM
Ahh, damn it. I was hoping this went away since you didn’t do it in March this past year. I guess I’ll make snarky comments and vote anyway. You should have done this in July when shit was dead.
but still more interesting than a fucking chocolate tourney or a SBTB tourney. a radio station in chicago does a Tournaament of Bad each year, which is hilarious
August 16th, 2011 at 8:49 PM
Logic prevails once again.
I just want to play with Upton’s various physical attributes.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:50 PM
You’re barking up the wrong thread hoss.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:50 PM
Kate Upton, Seal Team 6, Watch the Throne, and Blake Lively. Unless Drake puts out a new album in which case Jersey will run from computer to computer to vote.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:50 PM
Blake “Sort-of Wrecked Face, Awesome Body” Lively
she’s my favorite, yes over upton. that spread of lively’s in glamour magazine was sweet
August 16th, 2011 at 8:51 PM
Guys, you’re missing the obvious winner. Entourage Final Season. TBL will vote over and over if he has to but Entourage is going to be sent off in styler
August 16th, 2011 at 8:51 PM
Entourage is the classic five seed and will fall in the first round.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:52 PM
Halle look fan-fuckin-tastic in those bikini pics from yesterday. (too lazy to link, think they were in a roundup)
And for TV bans, I think Auburn was banned in mid 90′s when Terry Bowden was coach.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:52 PM
I’d rather watch a puppy slowly die than a full episode of Entourage or Jersey Shore
August 16th, 2011 at 8:52 PM
tournament of bad bracket last march
this one looks promising too
August 16th, 2011 at 8:53 PM
Watch the Throne? Fucking Drake? I hate people……
August 16th, 2011 at 8:53 PM
Felt dirty today getting home after not looking at Twitter all day and looking at her feed to catch up on the day’s fare
Terry Boers needs to be an interview subject for this site
August 16th, 2011 at 8:53 PM
I think @iLikeGirlsDaily should at least be nominated. Changed my internet routing over night.
titty city is nice too
August 16th, 2011 at 8:54 PM
I mean, can we have a commenter submission of jiggly “whip my hair back and forth chick” for the culture tourney.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:54 PM
Drake was on fucking Degrassi. the fact he has street cred amazes me.
and what the hell is a seal team 6?
August 16th, 2011 at 8:54 PM
Entourage blows. Whoever wrote the last couple episodes last year and the couple new this year should be lynched. Way to kill a character driver show in 6 episodes or less.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:55 PM
You’re barking up the wrong thread hoss.
splain lucy
August 16th, 2011 at 8:55 PM
No album until October. He won’t qualify.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:55 PM
We can only hope so…
/final four should be Kate Upton, Seal Team Six, Game of Thrones and Sanchez are going to be what happens
August 16th, 2011 at 8:56 PM
What street cred? And since when do you need Street Cred to rap?
August 16th, 2011 at 8:56 PM
He doesn’t
The Navy SEALS who got Bin Laden.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:57 PM
Here’s the Cinderella of the tournament if it happens.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:58 PM
I’ll bet nobody here will take Halle Berry’s catchers mit over Kates sweet, young honeypot.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:58 PM
I think I have more street cred than Drake. Drake would get roughed up in Greenwich village.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:58 PM
I’d be curious to know how much coin Yahoo is dropping on these investigations. Can’t be cheap.
Kind of refreshing to have a news organization that is committed to getting it right, no matter the cost, and then framing the story giving pertinent and relevant details while being sensitive to certain aspects of the story. CNN and Fox News would like to what that feels like.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:58 PM
There needs to be many Game of Thrones entries, because if not, I’m going scorched earth motherf’ers
August 16th, 2011 at 8:58 PM
/Johnny Bench called
August 16th, 2011 at 8:59 PM
damnit. *know what that feels like.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:59 PM
I’m about to get angry again. Since fucking when do you need street cred to rap?
August 16th, 2011 at 9:00 PM
SportsByBrooks is getting hammered on FB because he was complaining that ESPN (at the time) didn’t report the story. I like SbB, but the shit people are commenting on his page is fucking hilarious.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:00 PM
If Hernia is alive, he’ll make sure all is well.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:00 PM
I’ll go ahead and say pretty much all the good rappers have it, and all the shitty rappers don’t. But we’ve been over this before, big dog.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:00 PM
Here’s guessing Asher Roth doesn’t have a ton of street cred.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:01 PM
There was a time, but it has since passed. At least you CLAIMED to have street cred, then you couldn’t go back to your own neighborhood.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:01 PM
1996?
August 16th, 2011 at 9:01 PM
In a perfect world, Naked Chick with Dragons would win in a walk.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:01 PM
I’m about to get angry again. Since fucking when do you need street cred to rap?
quick, tj, type up something about declan sullivan! intervene!
August 16th, 2011 at 9:02 PM
I believe they put the street cred rule in effect after Snow.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:02 PM
Needs more golden crowns, beheadings, random nudity, tearing of jugulars out…
August 16th, 2011 at 9:03 PM
Naked Chick with Dragons would win in a walk.
redhead whore chews dany and gargles her before spitting into a bordello spitoon full of tyrion’s cum

August 16th, 2011 at 9:03 PM
So Q-Tip had street cred? Brand Nubian and De La Soul had street cred? LL Cool J had street cred? Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common…. there are SHIT LOADS of talented ass rappers that weren’t exactly street and still were and are pretty fucking good.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:04 PM
I’d say between 2001-2003. Everything since then has been diarrhea spray from an old mans asshole. You know, in my opinion……
August 16th, 2011 at 9:04 PM
Man, Jersey is pissed.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:04 PM
Since the mid 90′s. It is pretty stupid though, that wouldn’t suffice in any other profession as an excuse for a subpar rapper. How many times I would say, “Gucci Mane fucking sucks” only for someone to respond with, “he’s from the hood though” or, “he killed a guy though”. That argument wouldn’t work in medicine or law.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:05 PM
I just threw up a little.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:06 PM
Jersey dropping some knowledge. Welcome back good sir.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:06 PM
And for the record, I’ll take Halle everyday of the week.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:07 PM
This is old school TBLAD. I’m excited. Somebody dig up JPQ!
August 16th, 2011 at 9:07 PM
the most recent NaS Cd and most recent Eminem cd and TI paper trial are solid post 2003 works.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:07 PM
Wow. Just… wow.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:07 PM
last night was jumping, too.
Football is in the air.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:09 PM
Kayne’s most recent, Blueprint 3 need to be included on this
August 16th, 2011 at 9:09 PM
And I think I’ll take her over Halle. Even though Halle’s been a fantasy of mine for 15+ years, nostalgia be damned
August 16th, 2011 at 9:10 PM
My favorite commenter. It’s a shame he left us. A really good dude who added much to the blog.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:10 PM
can’t do it. I’m the biggest Kayne hater there is. If I had my way he would sent off to NASA.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:11 PM
I vehemently disagree. I guess my standards are too high.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:11 PM
Kanye blows. He cant hold a candle to Eminem.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:12 PM
Drake doesn’t claim to have street cred like 90% of the time, but every now and then he slips up. In his newest song, he’s even talking about “catching bodies”. C’mon.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:12 PM
Imo, since 2003, Kanye easily has the best catalog of anyone in hip hop. I don’t even think it’s close.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:12 PM
I could be wrong, but he’s still in moderation, so it was more of a forced leave than a decision to leave.

Kanye’s most recent outside of Em is probably one of the best rap albums in the past eight years. Em still is the best, you won’t get an argument from me.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:13 PM
I hate Kanye as human being, but goddamn it if he can’t make some incredible music. Plus, he found outlets for J. Cole and Pusha-T to get creative.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:13 PM
Eminem can’t even hold a candle up to Eminem anymore.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:14 PM
I’m not a big rap fan anymore. But whenever I see EM rapping I pause in awe. It gives me chills when he goes live.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:15 PM
no common, jerz? outkast? roots? camp lo?
some of that is pre 03 tho
August 16th, 2011 at 9:15 PM
His first three albums are perhaps the apex of hip-hop. Marshall Matthers LP I still listen to once a week. It’s that fucking amazing.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:15 PM
I mean this in the nicest way. He needs to stop doing songs with Royce. I don’t know what Royce did for all that time he was laying low, but I bet it was whatever the lyrical equivalent of doing massive cycles of decabol is.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:16 PM
Eminem’s most recent solo cd was terrible. I miss 2000-era Eminem. Eminem’s fall off is an integral reason why I no longer in good faith put Biggie at no 1 anymore.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:19 PM
It’s his best since Eminem Show, but those three first three cd’s were on par of the best of Biggie and 2Pac.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:19 PM
They where a good team back in the day.
That whole era was apex of rap. The Dogg Pound, Dre, Eminem, Xzibit, even Bone Thugs where still kickin’.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:19 PM
i really enjoy the chrome children collections. guilty simpson, percy p, etc
/i’m pro fellatio
August 16th, 2011 at 9:20 PM
I mentioned Common. And I can listen to “Be” on repeat without wanting to change a song. I won’t even mention Outkast. That is another crew with zero street cred, but I know there is no one stupid enough to question how good they are. Roots are a band. But Black Thought, far from street, excellent lyricist.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:20 PM
Native Tongue movement was all about positive rap in the early 90s (ATCQ, De La Soul, Black Sheep)
August 16th, 2011 at 9:21 PM
?West Love is perhaps the best drummer of any genre of the past 15-20 yeras.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:21 PM
that song with Lil Weezy was hot fire.
really? I think that is my favorite outside of Slim Shady LP
needs more No Limit and Cash Money.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:22 PM
They are trying now, but Royce is so goddamn good. He has a Beamer Benz and Bentley freestyle that makes me lose my mind when I hear it. And he blows Banks, Joe Budden and Fabolous out of the fucking water in Remember The Titans.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:22 PM
The Marshall Mathers LP is on my rap short list with Graduation, Ready to Die and the Blueprint. I think J Cole is the only person who could even possibly make anything that could join that pantheon for me
August 16th, 2011 at 9:23 PM
I miss ATCQ like crack. I need to see that documentary.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:24 PM
I just vomited all over myself.
And I like Outcast. Those guys are musicians.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:24 PM
I don’t know how much this means. I feel like I’m repeating myself. But I never really liked Eminem when he first came out. I’m more of a Tribe Called Quest and 2Pac/Nas fan. I may be rambling but when I hear Em rap it gives me chills and it’s awesome I have a whole new respect for the guy.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:24 PM
Wale needs to drop just a new, serious album now. Probably my favorite rapper out right now.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:24 PM
So Eli Manning thinks he is in same class as T. Brady
funny. funny. funny
August 16th, 2011 at 9:25 PM
I listened to Low End Theory until the laser burned a hole in the CD. Unlike anything that came before it.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:25 PM
You should have said ever. I could’ve streched this thread to 400+ comments.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:25 PM
You know, the more I think about it, The more I question if Budden’s verse wasn’t better. Royce had to go last on that track just because how it was constructed, but…I dunno
August 16th, 2011 at 9:25 PM
Andre 3000 needs to snap the fuck out of it, take Big Boi’s weed stash and lure him back to the goddamn A.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:27 PM
Problem is, Andre 3000 can actually act. He has talent.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:27 PM
I think everyone on that song brought their A game, but Royce starts it off saying how he’s out of his league and then just MAIMS the track. It’s the 3rd song on my 5k playlist.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:27 PM
Love Wale, but it’s Cole and Kendrick for me. You heard K Dot rip Cole on “temptation”? He went in. Never really heard J Cole come in last on any track he’s been on til then
August 16th, 2011 at 9:27 PM
butters, farmer just called pierre’s hr. he said, we need a homer, and 2 seconds later, he smacks it
of all guys to say we need a homer from. was pierre’s 2nd hr this year
August 16th, 2011 at 9:28 PM
you must be listening to the wrong shit. TRU 2 Da Game and Guerrilla Warfire and the hottest of the hot fire. I still listen to that shit after all these years.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:28 PM
how’d you like big boi’s solo work?
August 16th, 2011 at 9:28 PM
Shit, Juan fuckin Pierre just homered off Ubaldo… WTF…
August 16th, 2011 at 9:28 PM
I don’t give a fuck what he has. I need an Outkast cd in my life. I love Big Boi. Love him. Loved his last album like crack. But that song he has with Andre on there was the biggest tease ever.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:28 PM
I used to think better of you.
Anyways, you ever listen to k-os, jersey? 2006′s Atlantis: Hymns for Disco is one of my favorite hip-hop albums ever.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:28 PM
That Donna Shalala is one handsome woman… her long jort capris are so tight you can see the outline of her fupa. Gross.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:29 PM
Nice fuck job by the umpires in the Tribe/White Sox game. Choo hits a ball down the RF line off the wall. Alexi Ramirez tackles Brantley as he rounds 2nd. Choo gets half way to 2nd and turns around seeing Brantley on the ground. Brantley gets up and heads to 3rd. Umpires don’t award Choo 2nd because he turned around on his own.
Moral of Story: Tackle all runners around 2nd. It’s impossible to get penalized for it.
/Fuck Ozzie. It’s all his fault.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:29 PM

The Sir Luscious Left Foot album? Favorite of 2010. Where’s NDub when you need him.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:29 PM
Fuck, Hallady just imploded.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:30 PM
His tenacity was definitely on another level. But you keep championing the Michigan kid, I still think I’m a go with with Jersey on that one.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:30 PM
I’m not a huge fan, but Big Boi’s solo album was pretty good. Agreed that Outkast needs to get their shit together
August 16th, 2011 at 9:30 PM
So is this the part where “we” blame the system, because Miami players should have had their own multi-million dollar boats?
I see OSU fans are already using this as an excuse to point out that their coach not taking time from writing his book on integrity to show some, well, integrity, really isnt a big deal.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:31 PM
The Sir Luscious Left Foot album? Favorite of 2010.
got it for free from the library
August 16th, 2011 at 9:31 PM
edit: K-OS’s albums aren’t strictly hip-hop. lots of soul and R&B aspects but the man is amazing…and canadian!
August 16th, 2011 at 9:32 PM
not technically solo, I guess, but I much preferred Speakerboxxx to the Love Below.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:32 PM
Love K-Os. That is a talented man. But just be warned, he was a big influence on the previously mentioned Drake.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:32 PM
High-five to vez for burning cds from library!

August 16th, 2011 at 9:33 PM
there’s been no official leak or anything, just people recording at a listening party, but here it is
August 16th, 2011 at 9:33 PM
Can you enlighten me on the popularity of Drake? I don’t find him to be terribly good but so many people think otherwise.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:33 PM
Yep. Exactly like Drake. As a matter off act, those two are doing some work together.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:35 PM
jersey, it’s odd that I like K-OS, but don’t like Drake. I just think K-OS puts more emphasis on writing good lyrics but that’s my opinion
August 16th, 2011 at 9:36 PM
He is EXTREMELY talented. And very insightful. His stuff from 2009 and early 2010 are straight crack.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:37 PM
He definitely is talented. I just think his lyric writing could be better.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:37 PM
If your coach wasn’t a walking corpse he would have the same issues. So fuck you man. Have fun getting date raped by Bama and finishing 7-5 with MEEEECHIGAN this year.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:37 PM
Rappers aren’t muscians. Rap isn’t music.
/Nascar drivers aren’t athletes
//Nascar isn’t a sport.
///Yet another long line of repeated positions I don’t really care about.
////Keeping with the mini-theme of today.
I just saw Ice Cube and Slick Rick performed at the ICP Juggalo thing this past weekend. My childhood just got rape-fisted.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:38 PM
I like both. I think Drake puts a good amount of effort into his lyrics too. He was a big time ghostwriter before he started rapping. Do me one favor, TJ, go listen to So Far Gone. I don’t even like that album, but I can tell that he is trying to exercise something other than just being a rapper there.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:38 PM
Think the rap version of NCIS or 2 and a Half Men.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:38 PM
Now I can get behind Drake a million times before I ever would give one iota of giving-a-shit to ICP.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:39 PM
But while I’m here, everyone who likes singing, go listen to The Weeknd (spelling correct). Dude might be my favorite music artist right now, period.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:39 PM
I agree completely. I love dude’s potential, and every now and then he’ll have flashes of brilliance. But alot of his shit is shit. And that bugs me when I know he could be realizing his potential.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:40 PM
Ok. That was harsh, and hilarious.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:40 PM

now that’s pretty funny ballz
August 16th, 2011 at 9:41 PM

No, no, no… Tress got what he deserved because he lied through his teeth. There is absolutely no excuse for that, period.
However, the over-reporting by ESPN on the subject makes a sane person wonder why they have gone overboard (and they have) on the subject. There was very little to the story other than Tress lying, which is a huge deal.
But, what USC did (trying to cover up everything from Day 1 until they were penalized), what Oregon has been accused of (with Kelly knee deep in illegal recruiting practices), and what has just come out on Miami (Death Penalty-esque) are MILES worse than what the OSU players were accused of.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:41 PM
And if you don’t like it, wait for about a week or so, and try it again.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:42 PM
shit, OSU may as well get in line and it can be one big 7-5 party. all three teams are gonna be shit.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:43 PM

Wanna make a bet that OSU wins more games than U of M? Gravatar bet?
August 16th, 2011 at 9:44 PM
I’m so happy you came around. Like, legitimately content. I got to see if he’s put out any new stuff while I was out.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:44 PM
As long as UofM beats ND, I’ll be happy. My dad got an extra ticket to the 1st night game in the Big House, and I am ecstatic. Not as big a Michigan fan as I was when I was 12, but still should make for a pretty awesome experience.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:45 PM
And I’ll make that bet to anyone else that wants it. ANYONE. PLEASE.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:45 PM
I honestly hate how much I like his stuff. I listen to at least 3 Weeknd songs a day. and one of them is always the Trust Issues Remix.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:47 PM
jersey, he’s an indie fave by most indie fans but the new Bon Iver album is just great all around. (i dont give a damn what anyone says That man uses the high register/falsetto so damn well. Much better than say..mainstream darlings Coldplay. It’s just a well-created album. Also, I can never get tired of listening to The National. I know some folks say they are bored by his deep voice that can be monotonous but between the lyrics and the instrumentation, their albums are just good from start to finish.
Anyone else use Spotify? Thank you Spotify for a free service where I can see how much shitty music is out there right now
August 16th, 2011 at 9:48 PM
what do you thin OSU finishes at? no way am I doing it straight up.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:48 PM
Jose: I need to make a gravatar bet with you on Michigan-ND. I might make my way up there for the game. I don’t know what I’ll do if we lose to Michigan again. The Michigan schools kicked me in the dick last year. I think there is still bleeding.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:48 PM
jersey – listen to the new Raphael Saadiq album? If not, do it.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:49 PM
OSU and UM both finish 8-4
August 16th, 2011 at 9:50 PM
TJ: The funny thing about Bon Iver is he gets no love, but everyone I know, and we all love us some mainstream, love the fuck out of Bon Iver. I like Skinny Love.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:50 PM
He killed Trust Issues. The 1st couple songs I listened to sounded too Trey Songz-influenced, who’s fine but oversaturated a bit. Thank god I got past that though.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:51 PM
OSU will win 8 if they go full retard with Bauserman and everything goes wrong. They can still win 10 on talent alone and execution.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:51 PM
Saadiq’s got an album? Putting it in my to do for tomorrow. Man, first Maxwell comes back and now Raphael. I’ve got some great recent booty music now.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:52 PM
That they can prove. The entire student body knew about the cars going all the way back to Clarett. Claims of no show jobs under Dick Tressel. Plenty of suspicions when it came to recruiting (the NCAA sent them letters about TPryor). There was lots going on that wasnt on the level but you want to believe it was only what was in the charges proven.
I understand that rationalization. Take your quasi penalty and I’ll enjoy your 6 win season.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:52 PM
another favorite of mine from 2010 was Fitz and The Tantrums. What a fucking great soul album
August 16th, 2011 at 9:52 PM
I leave The Party/The Afterparty on repeat at night.
August 16th, 2011 at 9:53 PM
Jersey – Saadiq’s album is called “Stone Rollin”…and yes that Maxwell album in 2009 was hot. I’m not a huge modern R&B fan but damn, the bass lines on that album were infectious
August 16th, 2011 at 9:53 PM
Wasn’t Charlie Sheen there too?
Yep. He got booed and had shit thrown at him. That makes you think Juggalos are ok, right? Wrong, they let 2012 Ice “Disney Kiddie Movie” Cube finish his set. Meth and white trash and face paint. I don’t get it.
/Nascar drivers aren’t athletes
//Nascar isn’t a sport.
Who cares? Racing is still fucking awesome.
Damn it, Sand. You took half the joke and turned into a position. The point is I don’t care about arguments that will never be settled. Rap/Music, Racing/Athletes, Abortion/BirthControlIsHerProblem. I’ll be 99 years old and folks will still be bitching at each other about unagreeable positions. I prefer dick jokes where we can all laugh. And, Fuck Mizzou. That is something we can all get behind. Except for Lisk. But he is a lawyer and fuck lawyers. Shit. I did it again.

August 16th, 2011 at 9:55 PM
I’M SO….SCARED
August 16th, 2011 at 9:55 PM

August 16th, 2011 at 9:55 PM
I know that ND doesn’t get a lot of love, but the fact they are playing night games against USC and Michigan makes me so giddy. Just the debauchery that should ensue those two days and nights should be all time.

Don’t ever call me Sand again!
Sorry. I feel uncomfortable calling you Ballz.

August 16th, 2011 at 10:02 PM

August 16th, 2011 at 10:03 PM
lol. if only there were archives for TBL’s yearly ND to BCS post.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:04 PM
looking at the schedule I get 9 wins for OSU. losses to Wisc, Nebraska and (gasp) Spartoons.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:04 PM
How would that possibly make anyone feel more comfortable?
August 16th, 2011 at 10:05 PM
in an OSU-Miami game, isn’t the desired outcome (for anyone not a fan of either school) that the stadium falls into a giant sinkhole?
August 16th, 2011 at 10:06 PM
Unless you’re GG, V4L, SG, or CJ, I don’t know
August 16th, 2011 at 10:08 PM
I don’t know. I’m sure St. Bear has called me Ballz before.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:08 PM
i say Ballz, because well, that’s what it says.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:09 PM
who doesn’t call you Ballz?
August 16th, 2011 at 10:09 PM
It’s not what I would have chosen, but that’s your name.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:13 PM
im speechless.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:14 PM
It wasnt my first choice. My first choice was Citylife80. But there was an email snafu and I had to come up with something else quick. That was it. I changed it to Citylife80 around a year ago, but it wasn’t the same. Now it’s too late.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:14 PM
Where the hell did you get Sand from? And you can always call me BallzDeep.
Ok, I just cried laughing. But wasn’t there a Sandibalz way, way back in the day? My mind got fucking fried when all you fuckers kept changing your names. Apologies on my part.
August 16th, 2011 at 10:15 PM

TST being banned should be in there, definitely the most momentous event of 2010-11 here
August 16th, 2011 at 11:02 PM
Everybody please shut up! I am trying to finish this letter I am drafting to anonymous begging them to have Yahoo! and EDSBS shut down forever.

Laz Diaz needs to DIAF tonight. He’s been a colossal clusterfuck behind the dish tonight.
/What else is new

If this game goes to extras and Quentin has another at-bat he’s fighting Laz Diaz

This x 1,000.
Also, maybe include the phrase “low seven figures” as a 13 seed?

Don’t worry, Butters. Ramirez will just tackle the next runner rounding 2nd, keeping the Tribe from scoring again. Nothing can be done according to the umpires on the field.
What a crock of shit… But, Tribe has had many opportunities too…

That Irvin-Sapp GIF has changed my life.
August 16th, 2011 at 11:16 PM
I’m watching the Daily Show, and John Hodgeman is doing some unfunny stupid schtick about bookstores. I don’t even know why Stewart has him on anymore.
August 16th, 2011 at 11:21 PM
I can’t believe Irvin is in the Hall and not Chris Carter.

Rookie 3rd Base Ump trying to rival Laz Diaz for worst umpire in Chicago tonight.
They all need a good night sleep and some memory forgetters after tonight’s disaster.
/Fuck Ozzie. It’s still all his fault.
August 16th, 2011 at 11:30 PM
Be mad at your bust major trade acquisition who couldn’t get a bad lineup out tonight, not the umpires
August 16th, 2011 at 11:32 PM
Ubaldo was bad tonight. Tribe has had a number of chances to get out of innings and failed.
Doesn’t excuse the shit show put on by the umpires. All shortstops should now tackle guys headed to third on doubles to RF. At least with this crew, they should.
August 16th, 2011 at 11:38 PM
Thanks Laz, again. Flowers K’s on a pitch down the middle of the plate, but called a ball. Two pitches later, he hits a 250 foot triple.
What a douche.
August 16th, 2011 at 11:54 PM
Add Wally Bell to the shit list. Awkward play, but Indians still catch the short end of it… for about the 10th time tonight.

The Tribe is so cruel. I can’t imagine being able to watch them on a game 2 game basis.
August 17th, 2011 at 1:00 AM
My heart will not last if I have to deal with this night in and night out for the next 45 games.

You ain’t bullshittin’.

i like the U gif that came from EDSBS. nice grab, TBL.

Death penalty will be the outcome on this one. However, my guess is that the kinds of things Miami did aren’t that different than what VA Tech, FSU or a few other ACC schools did.

Just read some of the Yahoo article. Michael Huyghue, soon-to-be ex-commissioner of the UFL, is also going to spend some time in jail. What does Sid Rosenberg have to say about all of this?
