The Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants met in the NLCS last season and often times, as we’ve seen with so many other teams, familiarity brings contempt, particularly when you are both chasing the same thing. Well in Philly’s thumping of the World Champs last night, Ramon Ramirez threw at Shane Victorino in a pretty obvious manner — the score at the time was 8-2 — but things may not have been escalated to such an absurd degree had Giants catcher Eli Whiteside not jumped up and down in front of Victorino in such a Cobra Kai, “so what you gonna do bitch” manner.

It was certainly a new approach for a catcher. Rarely do they play the role of gasoline in these situations, but Whiteside did a wonderful job in encouraging mass chaos and confusion.

If you’re a Phillies fan, your level of love for Victorino has very likely reached ridiculous new heights after watching him escape the ump’s clutches and dart towards the center of the pile for one more go like Chuck Cecil after 10 shots of Jameson.

It’s always a delicious setting when two clubs so clearly hate one another, so it’s an absolute must that these two teams meet in the playoffs.
