David Beckham’s Yellow Card Was Remarkably Convenient
David Beckham once caused a controversy, by admitting he intentionally got himself yellow-carded during an England match, to serve his suspension while he was injured. With the MLS All-Star Game approaching, Beckham may have done so again.
Beckham was one yellow card away from suspension. Taking a free kick with seconds remaining and a 1-0 lead, Beckham suddenly began berating the referee after Columbus Crew defenders inched forward beyond the approved 10 yards. His egregious, silly reaction got him carded. He was suspended for the next match. Looking at the Galaxy’s schedule, the suspension was remarkably convenient.
The match was on July 20. Beckham will play against Man CIty in the World Football Challenge on July 24 and the MLS All-Star Game on July 27 (both exhibitions he can half-ass his way through). Instead of rejoining the team in Vancouver for a rough turnaround on July 30, he won’t have to play again until Aug. 3. That’s 13 days without a competitive match and six days off after the All-Star Game, the sort of thing one might want at age 36 and having just had a child. Hmm…

He’s not the first to do this, and certainly won’t be the last.

You call this half-assed. I call this smart scheduling.

This just in: Baseball and Basketball coaches sometime get thrown out on purpose to try and provide a “spark” or start drinking earlier…

soccer guys, at his peak, was beckham much more than a pretty boy? where does he rank among the world’s players of the…..last 30 years?

Yes, he actually was much more than that. Dude had incredible skills on the pitch, and still has quite a bit. He can pretty much put the ball exactly where he wants in the air, he has extraordinary precision with his passing. He was absolutely lethal on free kicks around the box too, he could make the ball bend and swerve with the best of them. He’s definitely up there with some of the best players of the last 30 years, no question.

thanks beef

His long range passing is just lethal. I’ve watched several galaxy games over past few years, and he can still place that perfect pass to a player 40 yards away.

Too bad these players can’t bring it down and continue their runs like they could in the EPL or La Liga when he was doing it… haha

I venture to say he is the most lethal/deadly/accurate, ok that’s enough adjectives, free kick taker…EVER. Would love to hear your guys thoughts on who else might be up there with him. Ronaldhino was quite masterful in his heyday…
just watch some of those…wow
This guy takes a lot of sh*t, but you can’t deny his talent.

The placement on some of those is just, WOW. The way he’s able to just tuck it neatly inside the top corner is unreal, truly a world class talent. He is exactly who Ronaldo wishes he could be. Too bad he hits it into the wall 9 times out of 10 because he usually goes more for power than finesse.

So David Beckham is much more accurate with his foot than lets say, Mark Sanchez is with his arm then huh?
