Juron Criner May Miss Arizona’s Season For Personal Reasons, Pac-12 Opponents Geeked
Arizona’s star receiver, Juron Criner – five 100-yard games in 2010 and 11 TD catches – reportedly could miss the entire 2011 season due to “undisclosed medical reasons.” His 2011 status was first reported by Arizona Daily Star, but EPSN’s Bruce Feldman added yesterday that it isn’t an injury – just personal issues. Criner also missed a mid-June to ESPN’s campus on a promotional tour due to the always-ambiguous “personal reasons.”
Criner is pegged as a high-round NFL draft pick next year – at 6-foot-4, 215-pounds, he’s got the size and hands to possibly get into the first round (where I have him in a 2012 mock draft). After the “elite” group of receivers in college football next year (Justin Blackmon, Alshon Jeffrey, Michael Floyd), I’d lump Criner into that next batch with Ryan Broyles, Greg Childs, and Marquis Maze.
Obviously, Criner would be a massive loss for the Wildcats, who could have been the 2nd or 3rd best team in the Pac-12 South this Fall with returning QB Nick Foles. Arizona’s deep at WR, but Criner is obviously their best threat. The Wildcats probably aren’t a threat in the Pac-12 without him (Jon Wilner goes so far as to say Arizona would finish “closer to the bottom” of the South).

Not a top 10 receiver.
As for ‘Zona, they still have Mike Stoops, not gonna win the conference.
June 30th, 2011 at 1:43 PM
who could have been the 2nd or 3rd best team in the Pac-12 South
High praise.
June 30th, 2011 at 1:43 PM
Sounds like Criner has subscribed to the Zack Greinke “whoa-is-me, check out my made up excuse for not playing” school of thought
June 30th, 2011 at 1:47 PM
personal reasons = i don’t wanna study or go to class
June 30th, 2011 at 1:47 PM
Love comment no. 2.

whoa-is-me
is that what a horse says in his head while responding to his rider’s command?
June 30th, 2011 at 1:52 PM
missing a whole season due to personal issues isn’t quite the same as “not wanting to study or go to class.”
June 30th, 2011 at 1:52 PM
toledo’s offense was hitting on all cylinders in that highlight.
June 30th, 2011 at 1:55 PM
+1 shitty duffy post
June 30th, 2011 at 1:56 PM
The Pac 12 South is going to be the new Big 12 North for at least 2011. With USC being left out of the loop for one more year, the best team in the division is probably Arizona State.
June 30th, 2011 at 1:57 PM
you think that praise will save you from getting hit after the whistle by vontaze burfict? you got another thing coming.
June 30th, 2011 at 1:57 PM
Instead of a CFB post, let’s discuss the Brewers being phony shits
June 30th, 2011 at 1:58 PM
I am born and raised in this state and I have never heard of this paper. Perhaps it is a Northern Nogales paper?
June 30th, 2011 at 1:58 PM
Fixed
It’s not personal reasons:
June 30th, 2011 at 1:59 PM

if you say so…
June 30th, 2011 at 2:00 PM
Apparently the dude who “broke” the story first claimed it was an injury. He’s getting blasted on twitter.
Going back to the P12 South, you gotta love USC’s division if you’re a Trojan fan. No Oregon, Cal or Oregon State. Utah may be the best program outside of USC.

what if he’s just sick of playing football? he should keep on with it even though he hates it?

Drinks too much.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:03 PM
Poor Washington State. Now that Washington has righted the ship post Willingham, the North will have Oregon, Cal, Wash and Oregon State. Stanford will be okay, thought I’m not bullish on them being able to sustain tons of success without Captain Comeback.

Settle down, apparently it may be a medical condition, non-injury related…and yes if you are in the top 50 NFL prospects you play football, even if you hate it
June 30th, 2011 at 2:04 PM
Come on, Spencer. You know that Cal and Oregon State will be competitive more times than not. You can’t say the same for Arizona or ASU. The tougher division is the North and I don’t think it’s even close.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:04 PM
just heard the cavs traded jj hickson to the kings for a first rounder and Omri Casspi.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:05 PM
a) not riled up
b) i disagree on the top 50 NFL prospects part entirely. what good is a player who doesn’t give a shit even if he has loads of talent?
June 30th, 2011 at 2:05 PM
Not sure if I like that trade for the Kings.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:06 PM
what if he’s just sick of playing football? he should keep on with it even though he hates it?
Robert Smith style?
June 30th, 2011 at 2:06 PM
NOT CAL AND OREGON STATE!!! JUGGERNAUTS! THE BOTH OF EM!
I was lead to believe that if you have Oregon State on the schedule it could vault you to a National Championship
June 30th, 2011 at 2:06 PM
i kinda like it for the cavs except i don’t understand the lotto protection part. the kings WILL be in the lotto.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:06 PM
pretty solid example.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:07 PM
It’s lottery protected? Then it’s a good trade for the Kings because they will definitely be in the lottery.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:07 PM
Ricky Williams did ok before his pot smoking sabbatical, then came back and continued to do ok.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:08 PM
I always kind of identified with Robert Smith for that. It makes me a little sad to see him doing football analysis on TV now
June 30th, 2011 at 2:08 PM
This is why the NFL is so great. if a player doesnt give a shit, hes benched and cut when the season is over. In baseball and basketball you have to pay the fucker and play him
June 30th, 2011 at 2:08 PM
yea, but sticky ricky always cared about football…he hated the extracurricular part of it. the media, the obligations, the expendability of the talent…he loved the game.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:08 PM
i disagree on the top 50 NFL prospects part entirely. what good is a player who doesn’t give a shit even if he has loads of talent?
Look at your paycheck (or mine) and then look at 1st-2nd round NFL rookie paycheck…you are basically describing the whole NBA
June 30th, 2011 at 2:09 PM
Ricky Williams actually likes football, though. He’s just got anxiety disorder and outside interests and got spooked by his pending suspension
June 30th, 2011 at 2:09 PM
just heard the cavs traded jj hickson to the kings for a first rounder and Omri Casspi.
no way. JJ Hickson is untouchable.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:09 PM
Morons. They must be really sold on Tristan Thompson. I hope he fucking flops and the Cavs regret getting rid of Hickson
June 30th, 2011 at 2:09 PM
High five, spencer!
June 30th, 2011 at 2:10 PM
what price can you put on opportunity to follow your own path and spiritual liberation? i like to think it’s more than just a half dozen years of an NFL paycheck.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:10 PM
Good. Thompson is pretty much the same player and I’ve been hearing he has developed quite the head on his shoulders thinking he is the man in Cleveland ever since that one guy took his talents to somewhere.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:11 PM
They must be really sold on Tristan Thompson. I hope he fucking flops and the Cavs regret getting rid of Hickson
sadly, i think this going to be the case.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:11 PM
/high five
June 30th, 2011 at 2:11 PM
The Kings are also stupid for giving up a first round pick and a player for just JJ Hickson
June 30th, 2011 at 2:12 PM
Yeah, thanks guys. Didn’t totally know the situation, thought it was because he didn’t really enjoy football that much.

Omri Casspi now a Cleveland Cav, with a Sacramento 1st Rd pick for Hickson. Best news of that deal? He is dating Bar Rafaeli. Truest definition of a lucky bastard.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:15 PM
There is no debate there. Stanford will fall back to earth and things will balance out a bit. Then Oregon will get hammered with sanctions and it’ll flip.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:16 PM
maybe the money he earns in the league can fund this. Otherwise, the real world’s a bitch.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:16 PM
She was the one dating Leo right? So she went from Leo to Omri?
June 30th, 2011 at 2:16 PM
As an NBA fan I was robbed watching Lebron and Amare run the pick n roll because of this idiot. 2 years later he is traded for Omri Cassi and a pick. Fuck you Cleveland. And double fuck you to the kings if that pick is not protected.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:16 PM
I thought Leo dumped her?
/what are we, TMZ?
June 30th, 2011 at 2:17 PM
im not disagreeing with this at all. i find getting pummeled for money is pretty spiritually liberating…just cant speak for criner, that’s all.

June 30th, 2011 at 2:20 PM
I wish Syracuse could play UW this year instead of last year. This year’s SU team would be able to stomp on UW. Instead, I get to watch Syracuse travel to Los Angeles to get their asses stomped by Matt fuckin Barkley and USC

what price can you put on opportunity to follow your own path and spiritual liberation? i like to think it’s more than just a half dozen years of an NFL paycheck.
The new NFL rookie wage scale should cover it…

June 30th, 2011 at 2:22 PM
Meh. We made a really nice run after not making a deal. I guess I am just pissed that the Kings would trade a first round pick for Hickson. The Cavs are trading like me on Madden.

The Cavaliers also would get a conditional first round pick from the Kings (lottery protected for one year, top 10 protected in the second year).

OH YOU FUCKING FAGGOT. enjoy derek anderson for another year HAHAHAHAHAH asshole.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:24 PM
So in otherwords the Cavs traded for the Kings 2014 first round pick.

June 30th, 2011 at 2:27 PM
They traded him for a second round pick, because Sacto is going to suck for awhile.
So it’s basically Omri for JJ straight up, and that sounds about right. Cavs needed a 3. I like it. Hickson is terrible.

although the pick is lottery-protected in 2012. The pick is then protected in 2013 (1-13), 2014 (1-12) and 2015-2017 (1-10). If the pick is not conveyed by 2017, then Sacramento will convey its 2017 second-round draft pick to the Cavaliers protected (56-60.)
that sounds like that 100 million dollar contract Steve McNair signed, the one where the very last year had a 56 million dollar roster bonus.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:29 PM

June 30th, 2011 at 2:30 PM
Washington is about 1-2 years away from being good and 3-4 years away from being really good – if they get all the offensive linemen in the state this year – 2 of whom are top 5-10 guys in the nation. One is Lincoln Kennedy’s kid who is 6’9′ 320 and wants to play college basketball too. He still is expected to grow a couple inches more. And the other kid might be even better. It sounds like ND. Michigan and Nebraska and a lot of the SEC is after them. Especially Michigan seems like a real threat. They are both good students.
Everything I read about Criner sounds like he has a serious medical condition (not that he doesn’t want to play). Before this broke he was seen visiting Washington but now it was probably for their medical facilities.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:31 PM
speaking of McNair and the real killers, what came of Oprah interviewing OJ? I’m sure if he really admitted it, it would have been on the news by now. It sounded like a bunch of bullshit to me.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:31 PM
I was led to believe by commenters here that Locker was garbage. Price is not better though, but I’m confident in the coaching staff’s track record with QBs, can’t argue with it. The team is better pretty much everywhere else except LB. All WRs are back with Parade POY coming in, Chris Polk back at RB as one of the best in the nation, defensive line has a bunch of monsters on it (ask Nebraska about Meda Ta’Amu), entire secondary is back.
June 30th, 2011 at 2:31 PM
