What Happened to LeBron James in the NBA Finals?
Lebron’s disappearing act in the 2011 NBA Finals began innocently, in game two, when he misfired on a flurry of shots late, and Dallas stormed back from a 15-point deficit in the final seven minutes to knot the series at one. After that Miami Meltdown, LeBron was never the same in the fourth quarter of the Finals. He was tentative, unsure and timid, clearly not wanting to be the one who cost his team a victory.
Sure, he had the game-winning assist in game three, but you could tell he didn’t want the ball in the clutch even then. To Lebron, the ball was a hot potato in the fourth quarter of this series, and last night, LeBron would rather shovel it to Mario Chalmers or Eddie House for a 3-pointer with Miami down seven and the season on the line. That’s staggering.
But as he went through another puzzling game Sunday — dishing repeatedly to Juwan Howard at the rim instead of taking the ball to the basket himself, passing up wide-open shots when the ball came his way, standing and watching on defense like it was a summer camp drill at times — it got more and more clear.
The big question is why. Some credit certainly goes to the Dallas zone defense, which kept LeBron out of the lane. But the bulk of LeBron’s 4th quarter struggles … are on LeBron. Mentally, he cowered like a frightened turtle in the 4th quarter against the Mavericks. What makes this so puzzling for armchair psychologists is the fact that LeBron was dominant late against the Celtics and Bulls just a few weeks ago. He was confident, aggressive and dominant in carrying the Heat to the Finals. Did that failure against the Mavs’ in game two get in his head?
For all of you that rip LeBron in the comments today, and for the next six months, here’s his message to you:
“They have to wake up and have the same life that they had before they woke up today … the same personal problems,” James said. “I’m going to continue to live the way that I want to live. … But they have to get back to the real world at some point.”
There’s nothing real about James’ world, and never has been. He’s a prisoner of a life that his sycophants and enablers and our sporting culture has created for him. He’s rich and talented and something of a tortured soul. He’s the flawed superstar for these flawed times. He’s a creation of a basketball breeding ground full of such twisted priorities and warped principles. Almost every person who’s ever had to work closely with him, who has spent significant time, who’s watched him belittle and bully people, told me they were rooting hard against him. That’s sad, and that’s something he doesn’t understand and probably never will.
Here are some people celebrating in Dallas. Sports fans in Cleveland enjoyed the schadenfreude, too.

Speaking of clutch, I never learned how to drive a standard transmission. Is it easy to pick up?
June 13th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
I still find it shocking that even at this point he’s still several thousand miles away from reality.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
We knew all along that James/Wade/Bosh were going to live or die with Chalmers and House.
/wanking motion
James/Wade made a couple shots, looked like a potential comeback, and then Chalmers drive/turnover, House missed three, and they packed it in.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
I hate it. Id drive for 10 minutes and feel exhausted after. I’d rather just sit back and let the car do the work for me.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
That’s staggering.
Jarring.
Speaking of clutch, I never learned how to drive a standard transmission. Is it easy to pick up?
I learned when I was 12 and I don’t have any problems if I’m driving one. Riding a bike and such.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
Yes, and your duty as a male. I recommend experimenting with the clutch (no gas) to find the kick point. Gradually ease off clutch until car tries to get in gear, then push back in… car will roll some, try again. You can get car into gear without any ‘gas’ at all.
Sounds like it would be bad for the clutch, but it’s a lot better than mashing the gas early and burning it like most people do.

i didn’t really enjoy the schadenfraude. any clevelander who celebrates last night like a victory should shut the fuck up this instant.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:26 AM
I was glad to see Wade finally get called for a technical. He’s been talking shit to the refs after every single call that went against him all series, and they never had the balls to do anything about it.
That aside, I thought the officiating was actually pretty decent. There were still a few phantom foul calls, but for the most part they let the players play a physical game.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:26 AM
it’ll be second nature within a week.

My wife misses her stick shift Jetta (6 speed). When I got rid of my standard, for the Prius (obviously an auto), she was disappointed. I had to promise I’d get a stick shift sports car for us when I graduated med school.

I wouldn’t mind having some of LeBron’s money, but I enjoy my life the way it is, thankyouverymuch. It’s alright though, because all of Bron-Bron’s groupies will rub his back and tell him he’s the best player that ever lived and he’s still going to win 10 championships… Just because you root against someone or some thing doesn’t mean you’re unhappy with your own life. I root again LeBron the same way I root against Manchester United, the Yankees, the Lakers, etc. You respect their talent, but you hope they lose every time you watch.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:28 AM
Joe Posnanski summed this up pretty well I thought
June 13th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
Lebron is still not built to suceed when failure is staring him down. When he’s winning (like in the Chicago series), he rises to the moment, but he’s down, the same darting eyes, passiveness, and lack of intestinal fortitude resurfaces.
Dallas played really good defensive on him though, lets not forget that either. They were trapping him almost every time he touched the ball.
I loved how he had an airball from about 13 feet with Jason Kidd on him at one point with the shot clock running down….not to mentioning bricking an important shot off the backboard (no rim).
Ahhhh feels great to be a hater.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
With modern cars, it’s a breeze. The flywheel engages super easy.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
This. I thought they gave Miami a few early, making Dallas play honest the rest of the way, but were pretty fair in the second half, and Chandler being off the court didn’t hurt.
I thought that EVERY Mav earned his ring. They don’t win that game without guys like Brian Cardinal and Ian Mahinmi. Except for Peja, every single rotation player for the Mavs was critical to their effort, and that impressed me the most of all.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
I taught my gf to do it a while back and she is quite uncoordinated. if you can learn it on a toyota or something with a forgiving clutch it will be easier as well.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
i like how lebron’s team actually won a game against dallas.

I can’t imagine having stick-shift living in an area with traffic and hills like Atlanta. That would be torture.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:32 AM
I was more so shocked by Miami fans leaving with like 3-4 minutes left in the game. I realize that your team is likely losing and you wanna find your car, but its Game 6 of the fucking NBA Finals.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:32 AM
Different matchups. If the Celtics had Kendrick Perkins, he probably doesn’t get the looks he wants in the lane and is just as tentative as he was with Chandler and Cardinal in this series.
He had better matchups against the Bulls and the rest of his teammates didn’t have to worry about defending any shooters. They just had to keep Derrick Rose from getting 30+.
The blueprint to beat this year’s Heat has been crafted. It’s just a matter of Riles getting them some different parts that aren’t Z, Howard and Bibby while Spoelstra makes the adjustments. The Miami Heat should unquestionably be the odds on favorite to win the 2012 NBA Title.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
I swear to God people better not be making excuses for Lebron again after yet another failure.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
Meh. He had plenty of opportunities.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
I’ve had 3 cars in my life, (F-250, Mustang, Mustang GT /Team Ford’d) and they have all been sticks. I get the purpose of one in a truck, but it’s much more fun in a car that you can drive fast in. The only time I wish I had an automatic is during rush hour.
Even when I drive an automatic, I feel like I need to have something to put my hand on where my shifter would be.
Takes a few days of practice before you feel comfortable at it. If you don’t squeal the tires or kill it on a hill for the first time, I’d be impressed.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
Atlanta traffic is worse than Nashville I will give you that, but even here it was just too much. Stop and go is the worst, and also too many times some idiot trying to change lanes comes to a stop on the highway, and you have to slam from 4th to 2nd all the sudden and pass. Just not worth it/fun anymore.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:34 AM
wtf? driving stick becomes an afterthought once you get used to it…after a few weeks, i didn’t think about it.
and stick is better in the snow.

Exactly because, while I rooted against the Heat I dont have any personal hatred for anybody on their team except Eddie House.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
im not…but this doesn’t give kobe-fellaters an excuse to claim victory either.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
Peja was money in the Lakers series.
/ hangs head like Lebron
June 13th, 2011 at 11:36 AM
I thought Dallas had a shot if they kept Chandler home to play defense and stop drives. They did a great job double teaming with those fake zones to stop the ball. They knew they had to live/die with the outside shooting of the Heat. The Bulls didn’t have the gameplan/Noah didn’t show up enough, and the Celtics didn’t have the personnel.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:36 AM
my last three trucks have been standards and when I drive an automatic I find myself stomping for the clutch for the first couple minutes.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:36 AM
Speaking of clutch, I never learned how to drive a standard transmission. Is it easy to pick up?
depends on the car. new ones are easy. i have a 70 camaro and it was a little hard to get used to. but its fun as hell now.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:36 AM
I can’t imagine having stick-shift living in an area with traffic and hills like Atlanta. That would be torture.
My brother’s second car, and the one he took to college in Austin was a 1990 stick shift Bronco II. He had to learn to drive it on all the hills of central Texas. Once he got the hang out of it, he seemed to like it a lot.
His ability to drive a stick is something he’s always held over me. Of course he didn’t know how to tie a tie until just a couple of years ago and I was able to hold that over him.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:36 AM
I’m far from an expert in all things LeBron, but seems to me like the guy has never had to overcome an ounce of adversity in his life. I think that’s a reason that he struggles with things like this.
But what the fuck do I know. I watched about 2 hours of the NBA this year.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:37 AM
best part of this Lebron discussion?
the eye test is what everyone is using to pick apart Lebron’s collapse, not some new-fangled stat
June 13th, 2011 at 11:37 AM
Coop, YYSA, Darrell, etc. see nothing wrong with the way he played this series.
I got killed for jokingly comparing LeFraud to Pippen, and LeFraud didn’t even put up Pippen numbers in the Finals.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:38 AM
Naahhh. Driving stick in traffic (esp stop-and-go) never gets easy or tolerable. And it’s only better in the snow if you have the right car, and are very good at it. And have front wheel drive
June 13th, 2011 at 11:38 AM
There is no claimed victory. I hate Lebron exclusive to the fact that I root for Kobe. I’ve been hating him since he came into the league – always thought he was overrated and overhyped, and this series hasn’t proved me wrong.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:38 AM

June 13th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
king nothing came up short b/c he is mentally weak. this is not fixable for him.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
All of this. People that have a stick and can’t drive in the snow aren’t very good drivers.
I always laugh at people that drive with two feet in an automatic. (One for the gas, one for the break) Once you drive a stick and change to the automatic, your left leg never leaves that clutch position.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
Seriously. Even when he had the triple double, he played like a fucking pussy. Yesterday’s game was neither him nor Wade rising to the occasion. Bosh did, but that’s only because he was getting open shots.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
But Kobe would’ve at least tried in the 4th quarter of the Finals, missed shots be damned. I think what sets apart players like Dirk, Duncan and Kobe is the week-in, week-out grind of the Bestern Conference.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:40 AM
i like a new-fangled stat as much as the next guy, but in team sports (NFL, NBA) i give it same value as the eye test
June 13th, 2011 at 11:40 AM
They are.
MIA — 3:1
CHI — 7:1
DAL — 8:1
OKC — 8:1
LAL — 8:1
BOS — 9:1
June 13th, 2011 at 11:40 AM
Cowherd, along with a caller, brought up a good point. Colin said LeBron needs someone to tap into that brain. The caller said LeBron’s like Will Hunting in “Good Will Hunting”. More talent than he could imagine but needed a shrink to help him understand that potential and get it kickstarted.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
love how they make odds before rosters get an overhaul.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
And thus, the Erik Spoelstra dismissal clock begins to tick like a bomb in Prison Break.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:42 AM
Also, Wade just got burned out by game 6, that was really surprising.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:42 AM
disagree on traffic…even in katrina/reno refugee filled dallas traffic jams, i never had an issue with stick.
and on snow, if you have two cars with everything equal, the stick will be better in snow. more control.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:42 AM
Everybody I know seems to be celebrating like the Heat are dead and buried.
/they’ll have a title before 2014

Does ANYONE drive with two feet in an automatic? I would not even be willing to be friends with someone like that. Who has such fucking failures as parents who let them learn to drive a car like an idiot?
June 13th, 2011 at 11:43 AM
I’m very proud of my ability to drive a standard transmission. That being said, having a standard transmission car for city driving is not fun especially in bumper to bumper traffic.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:43 AM
I’ll be genuinely surprised if Riley fires Spo. It’ll make it seem like Lebron will get his way and another coach will be fired to atone for LeBron’s failure on the biggest of stages.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:43 AM
No, because the breakthrough for LeBron doesn’t involve a hairy psychaitrist hugging him and saying “It’s not your fault.” over and over again, because it is his fault.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
/stopped reading right there
June 13th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
I still love the fact that Dirk shut up both of those pussies…keep mocking you douchebags.
Marc Stein said that everyone from Nowitzki down was peeved by the video.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
why is it a stretch to say that lebron was burned out heading into the series?
/not making excuses
//my opinion is he just choked under the weight of the expectations he was responsible for setting
June 13th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
I just want to know how LeBron’s gonna confiscate all the videos of the finals that are floating around.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
Minus that part, I still agree on the point.

June 13th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
Posanki made a great point in saying that when it gets too hard, or when things get difficult, Lebron obviously disappears.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
that’s dangerous as fuck.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
It’s hard not to look back at LeBron’s devastating closeout of Detroit a few years ago and wonder how the hell he regressed such an incredible amount. He was an absolute force in that series, and like most of us, I really thought it was a hint at the way things were going to be in the NBA going forward.
Oops.
It’s also funny/telling that LeBron referred to his good play against Boston and Chicago as proof of him being a closer during last night’s post-game presser. Apparently, you only get that level of play from James when it’s an inter-conference playoff series.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
WWS, I usually do but 1 out of 1000 times there is a good point.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
I’m only going to do this once but we need to give Chris Bosh some credit. The guy actually had a really good playoff run and he wasn’t out there feeding the beast with bulletin board material or things for the media to take and run with. I thought he played well, hit open shots when he had them and was a valuable asset to this team.
He may not be the garbage man that they need in the paint but he played his game very well. He also gives a shit which in the NBA is a major plus.
Ugh. That was not easy.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
Reminds me of Patriots 18-1 season. At some point being the targeted villain ceases to be fun. NE visibly wore down, and after they luckily escaped the playoff games, I expected them to lose the Superbowl…

I’ve never heard of or seen anyone doing this intentionally either. I might have slammed the brakes with both feet once to avoid an accident, but I’ve never, ever used them separately. My right foot does everything.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:47 AM
I actually wouldn’t be surprised since he played like 45 minutes every game.
However, Wade brought it from games 1-5, LEbron did not.

Yeah… if I saw anyone drive with two feet I’d immediately call them out and assume they’re a moron. It’s not as safe to drive that way, right?
June 13th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
lebron did bring an awful lot in the conf championship series tho on both ends…
but i don’t think this is the case…i think he just got frightened and scared that he’d have to go balls out in order to fulfill his prophecy and lost confidence when he couldn’t get it going.
it’s totally mental…not that i really have any idea, just an observation.

June 13th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
I thought Dallas won this title just as much as many people are claiming Lebron lost it.
I enjoyed the Woj piece for Yahoo, but I would like more information on this part:
The whole “taking my talents to South Beach” incident is one thing….being a dick to people just for the sake of being a dick is another.
Did Lebron leave behind that many negative anecdotes about his behavior towards people in Cleveland ? (i.e.– like the ones that came out of Pittsburgh about Ben Roethlisberger after his last run in with the law).

June 13th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
that’s what happens when you are able to be the best at something through talent alone throughout a majority of your life.
the moment your talent alone stops making you instantly better than anyone else is when you’re really screwed b/c you’ve never developed the skills to excel outside of your talent.
there’s a reason guys like jordan and jerry rice are considered the GOATs in their respective field. their talent got them so far, but their drive and sheer will to succeed and make themselves better put them so far above anyone else they faced.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
Does ANYONE drive with two feet in an automatic?
old ladies and really bad drivers. But nobody teaches anybody to drive like that, because it’s dangerous.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
Apple sauce bitches.
I think Lebron played like shit but the whole Miami team did. The only problem I have is anyone deflecting blame from Harold Major. He acted like an ass this series and really turned on the Mavs.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
I’m really pissed off about this. I sincerely thought these Finals would solve all of my personal problems. Shit.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:52 AM

June 13th, 2011 at 11:52 AM
He’s a physical freak, I agree that it appears to be completely mental. The way he passed during some of those sequences last night were obscene. Hot potato is not at all an exaggeration.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:52 AM
I thought Dallas won this title
no game 7′s, no missed chances to finish teams, one really bad loss in the first round, and 6 or 7 ultra resilient comebacks.

This is a guy who calls himself King James o nthe fucking phone to say hello. Most superstars (yes, even Kobe) have learned what humility is. Lebron still hasn’t after 8 years of failure in the league.

Then just say that. I’m seriously not trying to bust your chops that much but the two really have nothing in common. Different kind of villains, different sport, different situation.
June 13th, 2011 at 11:55 AM
i rewatched game 5 and was surprised at how little the mavs doubled lebron. they did double-team him in spots, but it was a lot less than i thought or assumed. they did pack the paint in, and dare him to shoot jumpers. they doubled him in the post about 30-40 percent of the time to vary the looks. and of course they used the zone on occasion. but they mostly used a variety of looks to keep lebron guessing, although he just didn’t seem real interested. haven’t yet watched game 6, but i think it was more of the same defensive philosophy.
lebron just didn’t attack when he was singled against kidd or marion or (gulp) barea.
at this rate, lebron looks to be the second coming of vince carter. remember how great we all thought vince was in the early 2000s?
June 13th, 2011 at 11:55 AM

That’s an accident waiting to happen right there.
I miss having a standard, even in traffic. The weirdest thing when I was in the UK was not driving on the other side of the road, but on the right side of the car and using your left hand to shift. Led to some horrible grinding noises for the first little bit.

OK, and LeFraud didn’t act like an ass this series? Difference is, Wade brought it and was killing himself the first 5 games. LeFraud was shitty the whole series except for Game 1.

ATL, I’m not implying that Kobe is a saint. But he and Jordan both learned humility. You’d never see either of them ever mocking Dirk like that, they have too much respect for the opposition to mock them.
/ Kobe however, will mock his out of shape teammates
/ Jordan will punch them out
June 13th, 2011 at 12:03 PM
at this rate, lebron looks to be the second coming of vince carter. remember how great we all thought vince was in the early 2000s

June 13th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
ATL, I’m not implying that Kobe is a saint. But he and Jordan both learned humility
Humility is not a word I would personally use to describe Kobe or MJ. Hard to be an “assassin” or “killer” when you’re filled with all that humility. They both knew they were better than everyone else, and they acted that way.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:09 PM

Kobe was not humble before the Colorado stuff, not at all. But since the Shaq trade and years of failure (and getting older), he’s smartened up. I can only hope the same for Lebron.

Aside from the purchase of an extremely expensive ring, how has Kobe changed since before Colorado? It’s not like he’s out there making appearances (other than the ones he has to make) at local charities, women’s shelters, schools, etc. He’s on an island just as much as every other superstar, taking a helicopter to home games because he doesn’t want to deal with the traffic and such. Can you imagine if Lebron did that?

June 13th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
One of the biggest problems that can be pointed out with Lebron is that he has not developed more to his game. I use to think Amare did not take things to seriously at times but at least he would come back after every off season and you could see where he put time in to his game. I don’t think Lebron does much of that.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:17 PM

June 13th, 2011 at 12:28 PM
Wade played terrible ysterday. But like I said, out of those two, he showed up to 5 out of 6 games in this series. You can’t say the same for Lebron.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:28 PM
Do you think LeBron would have a different attitude about improving his game if he was forced to do one year of college? I realize that he’d be better than the rest of his teammates but college ball involves more coaching and team work than NBA. Do you think he would have taken something from that experience?
June 13th, 2011 at 12:29 PM

Coop’s hard defense of LeBron is almost as good as his defense of Big Rape.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:31 PM
It’ll be interesting to see how Lebron adjusts his game as he gets older. Literally the only thing he’s developed since his rookie year is a decent jumpshot/3 point shot.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:31 PM
Cuban’s gotta find someway to make this championship about himself.

June 13th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
Your game doesn’t improve by playing against bad college competition, you get better by going against the best…it’s on him to work on his game like the other greats do
June 13th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
Do you think LeBron would have a different attitude about improving his game if he was forced to do one year of college? I realize that he’d be better than the rest of his teammates but college ball involves more coaching and team work than NBA. Do you think he would have taken something from that experience?
This is a point that has been brought up a few times over the last 24 hours. I think it can work both ways. Would Lebron have to learn how to win big games? Possibly (I may be wrong, but has he said he was going to tOSU), but maybe he never would have played in a big game. Also, if you want to go with the ‘development of game’ angle — sure, you would have another year agaisnt inferior opposition to develop things he needs (i.e. post game, killer jumper). But if we know anything about LBJ now is that he seems to lack the desire to develop those traits, and he could have gotten by on just being a great athlete at any college program.

Gold Toilets w/ the Heat logo in the basin?
June 13th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
Not much I can say that hasn’t been said. Very disappointing finish to the season for the Heat. It’s only fitting that Wade would finally have a bad game in this series and Lebron still wouldn’t step up. A really puzzling series to figure out after those first two games where Miami clearly could handle Dallas. I’m not that confident going forward with Lebron or Bosh. We’ll see what happens, but congrats to the Mavs. They played lights out the last two games of that series. Just ridiculous shooting from the team as a whole. They were the better team, no doubt.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
I didn’t mean would he have a better skill set by playing in college. I was asking more if he would have developed the drive to improve as a player and work with a team if he had been coached in a college setting.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
exactly…college would’ve been a waste of time considering he was an above average NBA player in his first game as an 18 year old.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
It has not seemed to help Melo much.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:37 PM

June 13th, 2011 at 12:37 PM
I’d argue the opposite and suggest he’d be even less inclined since he would have wrecked shop in college and felt even more invincible…going against better players has shown flaws in his game that he chooses not to address

June 13th, 2011 at 12:39 PM
Heat havent won a playoff series in 5 years, making the finals is damn hard. They ran into a super hot team. Everyones saying Heat collapsed, they played their game, Dallas was just ridiculous shooting at the end of games.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:40 PM
I think the problem with Lebron was that he was given the keys to a franchise before even playing a single game at any level beyond HS – stuff like that has to have an impact on some level. Garnett, Kobe, Tracy Mcgrady, O’Neal essentially had to earn that right. You can even argue that the Magic belonged to Francis when Dwight was drafted.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:40 PM
i really have no answer.
but for all woj’s bitching about lebron’s narcissism, he’s just as narcissistic in his articles. it’s preposterous. woj is gregg doyel without the honesty.

June 13th, 2011 at 12:42 PM
if he got a chip on his shoulder…maybe. hard for that to happen when you’re #1 and called the king before even playing your first game. who knows, maybe a year in college puts him as the #2 pick behind Dwight Howard in 2004….
June 13th, 2011 at 12:42 PM
We’re not allowed to talk about it because these assholes couldn’t handle watching both basketball and GoT.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:43 PM
Very true. Dallas shot lights out to win those last two games. That being said, I’m not going to give them a pass. They should have had a 2-0 lead going to Dallas and probably would have had control of the series. They didn’t, and everything changed from then on. And again, in most of the Finals games, especially late, Wade was doing everything by himself. Very disappointing considering the previous playoff series.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:43 PM
Everyones saying Heat collapsed, they played their game, Dallas was just ridiculous shooting at the end of games.
The Heat’s game is to pass on open shots multiple times?
June 13th, 2011 at 12:44 PM
Also, I think it’s worth mentioning that Miami’s D the last two games, which is what got them to the Finals, was not the same. The same effort wasn’t there flying to the ball, closing out on shooters, getting rebounds, etc. It wasn’t the same. No one shot well against Miami the entire playoffs for a reason, and then Dallas went off the last two games. Miami is to blame for that.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:45 PM

Yes and no. Definitely a few lazy possessions, but there were more than a few possessions where they played fantastic defense for 20 seconds only to have some Mav not named Dirk/Terry hit some ridiculously low percentage shot at the end of the clock.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
I laughed at the thought of an evil clown working on a server for a moment.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:49 PM
Very, very true. I was thinking it during all of those close games. The Mavs aren’t going to keep missing those open 3′s. And Terry just exploded. Same with Barea. Tons of missed opportunities to get wins for Miami.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:50 PM
I’d also like to say that LeBron wasn’t exaclty WIDE open at the end of the 4th last night. He was passive, no doubt, but it’s not like he’s passing up shots while everone else is under the basket.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:51 PM
Yeah it’s a little bit of both. Stevenson had a TON of open 3′s the last two games though after he had been knocking them down the entire series. Kidd and Terry had a lot of open looks as well. Not to mention Barea getting into the lane basically alone with regularity. That stuff can’t happen, and it simply didn’t happen when they were playing with more effort.
But you’re right, Dallas deserves tons of credit for just knocking down big shots.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:52 PM
According to Darren Rovel’s twitter poll Lebron (24%) is only surpassed by Barry Bonds (29%) as most hated athlete ever. OJ Simpson came in 3rd with 12%. Something doesn’t add up here.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:52 PM
Same thing.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:52 PM
He’s never going to be wide open. He wasn’t even trying to get his own shot or attack the rim. Against Boston, Chicago, Philly, he could get to the rim at will and either convert or draw a foul. Or draw defenders or knock down the jump shot. Against Dallas he was holding the ball or taking a couple of dribbles around the perimeter and passing. Completely different player.
