I gave my wife a long list of deal breakers. They keep happening anyway.

They don’t need forcing. You put a boy near anything with a motor and they will happily drive/ride it. My son is 12 and has been cutting our grass for two years. He loves it.

Hated this from day one. Told the Wife that any yard work was a deal breaker. We bought a condo and are getting ready to move to a townhouse. Who needs another list of things to do after working all day/week?

monster pull behind rough cut mower that can handle just about anything it comes across. If you run over a fallen tree limb, no matter. But you need a lot of power to pull one, and a power take off.
It keeps the extreme edge of the yard from being taken over by burdock (in my case) and the edge of the woods from encroaching on the pasture.
And it lets me cut walking paths while I wait for it to get dry enough so we can get our hay cut.

damn. condolences Clay. I only had to bathe both of mine last night and it was quite miserable. I don’t think I’ll ever get a dog that needs to be trimmed.

mowing’s really dangerous. especially with a big ass thing like this. So not for at least 10 years. Not before he’s 13 or so, and can be trusted. My neighbor’s kid is 15, and he has to work almost constantly.

I don’t actually “farm.” I just live on a farm. We garden a lot, and I do many hours of chores, but I’ve got time manufactured in my day. And I only have the one kid now, so I play with him or he chills in the computer room. He’s down for his PM nap now, and he’s a napping machine.

He was taking a shit in a Gate’s bathroom and I tragically walked in at the wrong time.

no, a local drunk comes out and does it on his 45 year old Massey Ferguson. Somebody else pays him and takes the hay, although this year there’s no middleman. He’s just taking the hay this year himself. Square bales, horse hay. Everybody else around here gets theirs round baled, for the cow farm that’s in the middle of “town.’

there isn’t much of a worse smell than driving by a chicken/turkey farm. unfortunately Arkansas is chocked full of them.

Yup, he had an accident on the farm a little while ago and needed some help moving chickens from one barn to another one afternoon. My career as a chicken farmer – and any ounce of sympathy for chickens (which was small regardless) – ended that afternoon.
