Gary Carter’s Cancer Treatment Calls for 6 & a Half Weeks of Radiation
Former Mets and Expos great Gary Carter learned on Tuesday that the biopsies taken of his brain showed that he has inoperable glioblastoma due to the location of the tumors. So with surgery ruled out as an option, doctors will instead go after the tumors with an aggressive treatment plan likely to begin on Monday according to one of Carter’s daughters.
“Doctor said they are going after these tumors aggressively … Dad is ready to battle,” she wrote. “He sounds like a completely different person. He is in fantastic spirits.”
Carter is now back home in Florida preparing for 6½ weeks of radiation and one year of chemotherapy. This whole thing is terribly sad and sounds awfully vicious, especially after reading the description of the cancer as “a snake of tumors that are connected across the back of the brain.”
The 57-year-old Hall of Famer recently completed his second season as baseball coach for Palm Beach Atlantic University.

I can’t imagine facing a possible death sentence like this. My fiancee’s half-sister’s partner (that would make my fiancee’s half-sister a lesbian if you are having trouble keeping track) found out a month ago that she has inoperable bowl cancer and that it’s spread everywhere. They are trying unconventional treatments because the doctors have pretty much said that normal methods won’t do anything in her case.

The Mets need to retire his # while he’s still alive.

I mentioned this yesterday…. GM is about as nasty a cancer as there is, and 5 year survival is almost as bad as pancreatic cancer.

Wow, ms, sorry to hear that. Terrible.

Man, fuck cancer. A guy I knew was diagnosed with liver cancer last October, they tried surgery, some chemo… but ultimately nothing they could do, he was gone by May.

Good luck, Kid.
