you’re missing out. in my region, there’s been some really great deals on stuff I would be spending my money on regardless.
May 31st, 2011 at 8:08 AM
am I the only one who has never once used Groupon?
don’t feel alone. i haven’t either.
May 31st, 2011 at 8:11 AM
is this weird? I thought it was one of baseball’s unwritten rules that you have to throw back a homerun ball if the opposing team hit it.
May 31st, 2011 at 8:11 AM
I dont really understand what Groupon is, isnt it just a restaurant thing?
May 31st, 2011 at 8:15 AM
Whats weird is when the away team’s fans make up the majority at the ballpark. That must be so awkward for the players.

not just restaurants. I got a bowling groupon for two frames and bowling shoes for me and the misses for $6 total. I think it normally costs us $30 to go bowling. there’s a lot of spas around here that give groupon deals, but I’m not interested in those since I’m so manly.

CJ, yes it’s the Thrashers. True North (the Winnipeg group) and the owners of the Thrashers finalized a deal last night.
Board approval is expected to be a formality later in June provided no local groups step up.
May 31st, 2011 at 8:23 AM
cj, it’s for all soprts of services and retailers. a company and groupon decide on the best deal, say spend 25 get 50 of stuff, it’s usually at least half off whatever. then, it decides how many people minimum have to sign up for the deal before it goes into effect. so you tell yoour friends to sign up so you and they can get the deal. then, you print the deal and go to the place. it’s for startup busineses, or older ones who want to drive traffic
May 31st, 2011 at 8:23 AM
It seems Groupon only works if you live in a big city too. Phooey.
May 31st, 2011 at 8:23 AM

Of course. If you have scoutmob in your town, it’s a must have, though. It dominates in Atlanta.

Compared to other liquor? Not entirely sure. I used to drink it more when I lived in the south, as it’s made in SC. Not sure if you can even get it up here. I just like the fact you can mix it with some water and ice and it tastes just like sweet tea and you get f’d up in the process.

I don’t understand why you have a giant, scrolling picture of featured stories on the home page but ALSO have the featured stories listed at the top of the site. If you’re going to keep the giant scrolling pic it should scroll through the most recent stories.

Well done.
It was somewhat enjoyable. Basically the same movie as the original. I laughed several times and the characters are likable. It was worth my $7.50. Speaking of things that were enjoyable this weekend….how about Game of Thrones? Shit is about to get wild…

yeah…once they woke up the next morning and started on their “quest” it became more apparent it was just a remake of the first one and got less funny after that.
there will probably be a hangover part 3, then it will go straight to dvd with new adventures of Alan and Mr Chao.

I highly doubt that. The redesign is pretty terrible, but it’s not like it was ever going to drive any significant number of people away.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:16 AM
Love golf now. It’s hooked me up several times. Oh, and when I walk, I have a pull cart too, which helps. I golfed the day after I got back from a lake trip and carried my bag with sunburnt shoulders. Bought the cart the next day. That was a painful round.

Got some good Netflixin done on Saturday while nursing a hangover. Watched the entire first season of Archer finally. It definitely delivered. Also watched the 2nd season of Party Down. It might just be because that type of humor is right in my wheelhouse but how in the hell could they cancel that show after a fantastic season like that is beyond me.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:19 AM

well it was pretty apparent the sequel was going to have a similar format to the first. There were some very funny scenes during the quest, but I thought there were some big scenes that dragged on for way too long. And just like the first, the pics during credits were the funniest part of the movie.

I drive a Pontiac as well (they were practically giving them away when I graduated college)…. no problems so far, and it actually drives pretty nice, but when I get a new car in about 6 months I’m going foreign. American made cars just don’t appeal to me. Ford looks like they finally got their shit together though.

Aimee Teegarden
She needs to eat a fucking sammich or two. That Men’s Health picture looks Photoshopped, and not for the better. Then again, maybe I’m anti Aimee because the one thing I associate with her (her character on FNL) is so fucking annoying and useless. If you’re gonna post pictures of hot chicks on that show, how about the quarterback’s girlfriend? Or even the gal that had the smushmortion last season?
I also am glad we only paid for cheaper tickets for the Hangover 2. I would’ve been pissed had we paid $10.50 a ticket instead of $8.
My wife is a manager at an AMC, so we get in for free. She really wanted to see Hangover 2. I had a bad vibe going in (especially after reading a few reviews). If I had to do it all over again, I would not see it. I don’t recommend it anybody see it. The Alan character goes from being lovable schmuck with no filter to borderline psychopath. I would go on, but I don’t want to spoil shit for people who still want to see it.
If you want to see a sequel, go see Kung Fu Panda 2. There, I said it. It got plenty fucking dusty in that movie theater.

May 31st, 2011 at 9:36 AM
I’ve only heard 1 or 2 people say they gave up on it…it’s gotten better and better, although I still struggle to see how it’s going to be wrapped up in 3 more hours. There HAS to be a very tangible connection to the campaign, lest it would have been wasteful to spend so much on those characters in the first place.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:36 AM
i liked casino better…when it was called goodfellas.
/hollywood minute’d
and it’s not necessarily a bad thing either…iron maiden’s my favorite band of all time, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been releasing the same album since the early 80′s.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:36 AM
sorry…didn’t pick up the reference. my bad. yes, the bluetick spent the majority of the weekend under a shadetree.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:36 AM
No, no you shouldn’t be
May 31st, 2011 at 9:36 AM
I watched one episode of Archer and was annoyed and bored. It’s not for me.
I got some Breaking Bad done this weekend. I’m a few episodes into season 2. I’m totally on board.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:37 AM
False. Already been reported within the last week that the deal is almost certain.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:37 AM
Did a similar thing, but it was three rounds in the boat with cocktails consumed of 5, 13, 9.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:37 AM
yeah, they’ve narrowed it down a bit, from the last episode it looks like it will get even more concentrated on fewer people.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:38 AM
AMC should get rid of The Killing and bring back Rubicon.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:38 AM
False. Already been reported within the last week that the deal is almost certain.
I just can’t believe there’s anybody left watching. I guess they dont’ want to cancel too many consecutive new shows.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:38 AM
I gave up on The Killing a long time ago. It’s going to go the way of Rubicon (which I enjoyed). I believe the ratings aren’t much better than Rubicon.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:39 AM
itd be nice if they spent money on HD instead of new shitty shows.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:39 AM
Nice. I drank 7 beers and 4 cups of water on that first round in the 107* heat. Didn’t pee once. Finished the round, had a Crown on Crown, went to a friends pool, peed all in that bitch. Finally.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:39 AM

Been listening to Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and Fear of the Dark a bunch lately.

I get AMC in HD… best be callin’ your cable provider son.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:41 AM
there’s a live version of fear in the dark from argentina where the crowd of 100k+ sings along with the entire song, lyrics and guitar riffs…gives me goosebumps everytime i hear it.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:41 AM
Time Warner may be a pain but they’ve added a ton of HD channels lately. I’ve had AMC and IFC in HD for a while now. Glorious.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:41 AM
So, which new album to download first? MMJ or Death Cab?
May 31st, 2011 at 9:41 AM
Had a buddy whose brother did the same thing in high school. It was awesome. We’d go and see a new release for free each Thursday after the theatre closed. Got to bring beer and such in, so if the movie sucked, it was free and we got drunk.
Doing the same. Almost done with season 2. Walter White, badass.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:41 AM
lo and behold…fear of the dark live in argentina.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:42 AM
I’ve only heard 1 or 2 people say they gave up on it…it’s gotten better and better, although I still struggle to see how it’s going to be wrapped up in 3 more hours. There HAS to be a very tangible connection to the campaign, lest it would have been wasteful to spend so much on those characters in the first place.
I honestly can’t say it’s gotten better at all. It’s stayed as predictable as it was, and it’s gotten off-the-rails wonky with plot lines (spoiler: terrorists and female circumcisions?).
I’m down to only 2 suspects who did the actual murder. The current mayor, and/or the mayor’s black assistant, on the mayor’s order.
But yeah, the campaign has to be involved.
The mellow evil rich guy with the five million for one shot guy was just so awful, but the lieutenant character has no comparison for the worst character I’ve ever seen in a cops drama.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:42 AM

May 31st, 2011 at 9:43 AM
The last episode of The Killing was pretty good…finally. Doesn’t make up for the previous six episodes that were spent on one suspect who obviously wasn’t going to be the killer.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:43 AM
Either. I prefer MMJ to DCFC but both albums are good.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:43 AM
Fuck yes.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:43 AM

I have it in HD. I often get pixillated recordings though, because their HD broadcast is janked. Theirs and Fx’s. At least with my shitty cable provider.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:44 AM
sheeeeeeit…directv can suck a dick.
did i tell yall about my call to them last week?
me: i wanna lower my bill, it’s $100/month.
DTV: ok…lets cancel starz and showtime.
me: sounds good.
DTV: that’ll be $106/month.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:44 AM
No doubt. Bryan Cranston is great. It took me all of season one to figure out he was the dad from Malcolm in the Middle.
My plan is to be done by July 17, the fourth season.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:45 AM
Doesn’t make up for the previous six episodes that were spent on one suspect who obviously wasn’t going to be the killer.
in fact, he could not have been more innocent. He was a hero. A double hero. A double hero who let high school girls come to his house on Friday nights when his pregnant wife wasn’t there, the same ones to whom he wrote long letters.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:46 AM
Spencer, how can you complain about adding $6 a month when yesterday was Memorial Day, for God’s sake?!?!
May 31st, 2011 at 9:46 AM
Every time I head you guys talk about The Killing, all I can think of was that CBS smushsmortion, Harpers Island. Anyone watch that?
I did get to oggle Katie Cassidy and found Civil Twilight from that show, so it wasn’t all bad.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:46 AM
I can definitely see how some people would not be into it. It is just balls out irreverent and very obscure with the references. I did enjoy it very much though.

Sounds about right. As someone who used to have DirecTv – If they didn’t have the NFL ticket I can’t see why anyone would use them for cable. Especially in places where it snows. I remember that thing going out a couple times a winter, and then if it was raining hard — no dice. Re-booting that POS took forever too.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:46 AM
NDub, you know they’re showing it on AMC at night, right? Late, late overnights, they’re running 2 episodes at once, just so people will catch up.
I don’t know why they don’t do the same with Mad Men (actually I do, but I wish they would).

Has anyone seen the movie Sunshine? It was a rough night of sleep Sunday night and I watched it on SyFy at like 2 a.m. I heard good things, so I gave it a shot. I liked it.

Yep, and it was blazingly obvious as everyone turned on him that he wasn’t the killer.
As someone else pointed out, how dumb are the cops to not have interviewed everyone who had access to the girl’s home first (which would have made the creepy, hanger-on with the Norman Bates’ background suspect 1 first?)

HBO Canada was playing Beyond the Lighted Stage this weekend. Great band.

Maybe it’s just, but I never heard much about this flick. Then you see the director and cast, and you think it has to be good.
There’s something about Rose Byrne that just does it for me. Nom. Although she was way too skinny in Insidious.

I don’t know about the rest of you but since tomorrow is June, that means Burn Notice comes back soon.
At this point, I’m about to give up on Michael Westin. It’s nothing but red herrings and double-deals that always reveal some new shady, dark being who is totally responsible for his being burned out.

pointing out how dumb those cops are being is like pointing out how dumb the people in Walking Dead were, sleeping out in the open and fishing for food (and or starving), when they could be living in houses and eating the food in those houses.
Can you believe that guy flew all the way back from Sonoma to have a 9 sentence fight and then got right back on a plane?

part of me did enjoy that since it shows the cops are human too and aren’t like the CSI or L&O super cops, who never follow a bad lead. it did go on too long though.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:57 AM
Has Martin said how many books he wants to write about this story? You always worry that he could get hit by a car like Stephen King did and not finish The Dark Tower. GOT seems like it has endless potential for story, so I was curious if he put a cap on it.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:57 AM

there will be 7, but partly b/c the 4th and 5th book was originally intended to be one large book. Instead of cutting to make one novel, he left the stories intact as two massive books, 2,000 pages total between the two i think.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:00 AM
Rose Byrne that just does it for me.
Underrated hotness. Nearly saved the mess that was Troy for me.
Can you believe that guy flew all the way back from Sonoma to have a 9 sentence fight and then got right back on a plane?
I thought he flew back to finally end the relationship. He gave her one look, saw where she was at and said “that’s it. I’m done.”

Shit, 9? I was thinking it was only 7. JCK I’m very much afraid the guy is going to drop dead before he finishes the series. He’s in his 60′s and his current book writing rate is like 6 years per book. He’s only on book 5.

surprisingly, they moved some of Jamie Lannisters backstory to season 1 of the show when that doesn’t take place until book 3. while it was one of the more suprising and likable twists and changes to a character, what the show did is make him a more complete and complicated character right away, which is nice.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:05 AM
yeah, really good show with Ted Danson and Glenn Close
May 31st, 2011 at 10:05 AM
Ha, that part of the plot is ridiculous. If it was supposed to offer some backstory, it has failed to do so. But, hell, I wouldn’t be incredinly surprised if it turned out he had something to do with the murder.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:06 AM
I think that’s why King cranked out the last 3 Dark Tower ones pretty quickly. You tend to get spooked about how much life you have left when a van knocks the shit out of you.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:06 AM
Re: The Killing: how dumb are the cops not to have looked up the charges on Mr. Larsen’s credit card, you know, the one found next to Rosie’s jacket? Its obvious she used that to get a ticket on that boat. They could have a figured out that Adela boat thing 11 days ago.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:06 AM
You think? To me, he’s been portrayed as pretty simplistic so far, moreso than probably any other character on the show.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:06 AM
have you heard about the hateful fans of Martin, who love his books but dedicate websites to hating him for how long it takes him to write his novels?
it’s kind of scary. it takes the guy a long time to write, but it’s not like he’s cranking out twilight quality story and characters…
May 31st, 2011 at 10:06 AM
Is this Ted and Rose?
May 31st, 2011 at 10:06 AM
Right. Ted Danson absolutely kills as Arthur Frobisher. Seriously.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:06 AM
But, hell, I wouldn’t be incredinly surprised if it turned out he had something to do with the murder.
That thought crossed my mind as well when I watched the first few episodes. “Look at at the guy who skipped town right after the murder” sort of thing.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:08 AM
Believe the original plan was 9.
Shit, 9? I was thinking it was only 7
Originally it was supposed to be something like 4, then 5. then he wrote Storm of Swords (Book 3) and that was so huge that the publisher demanded smaller books. When Book 4 was going that way, they just split it in half. Now it’s supposed to be 7.
surprisingly, they moved some of Jamie Lannisters backstory to season 1 of the show when that doesn’t take place until book 3. while it was one of the more suprising and likable twists and changes to a character, what the show did is make him a more complete and complicated character right away, which is nice.
Agreed.
So far the only changes I’m not so thrilled are how on the nose villainous Littlefinger is — his motives are never THIS clear in the book and how much of a little shit Joffrey is — you don’t find this out till end of Book 1.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:09 AM
The very worst of Hollywood brought out in a “epic” film. Retooling one of the classic stories ever written because they wanted it more movie-watch friendly. If they would have allowed Achilles to be like Homer painted him an the story to follow those lines, they could have had something. The four part movie series on AMC was much better.
Oh and Siena Gillory’s Helen >>>> that german chick who played Helen in Troy

how much of a little shit Joffrey is — you don’t find this out till end of Book 1.
The killing of Sansa’s direwolf and the Hound’s murder of Arya’s friend were more towards the middle of the first book, no?

May 31st, 2011 at 10:14 AM
The killing of Sansa’s direwolf and the Hound’s murder of Arya’s friend were more towards the middle of the first book, no?
Yes, but the killing of the direwolf can be laid at the feet of Cersei (she’s the one demanding blood) while the Hound does what all knights do to the common folk. Joffrey’s a brat at that point, but I don’t think you’re supposed to think of him as truly unhinged until he’s crowned — what you get when you put a bully into a position of absolute power.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:15 AM
it may have, but i know there was an incredible amount of exposition done in the book that took up a very large number of pages, which were covered very, very quickly in the TV show.
i know the events between direwolf incident and what will come next week took place rather quickly in the books, i think, however, i’m a bit concerned they will drag out the next event for 1 more episode and leave little time to deal with the remainder of the book 1 story.

Bran is for certain in there. So is Jon, Tyrion, Dany, Davos Seaworth and a few others. I don’t know if Arya will be in there — since she was in Book 4. I hope she is. That cliffhanger was a bit heartbreaking.
May 31st, 2011 at 10:19 AM
haven’t read book 4 yet (waiting to read it back to back with 5), but from what i understand is that book 4 is all about the north and book 5 is all about the south, or anyone not talked about in the previous book.
Dany is by far my favorite character in the series so I’m really hoping, considering the title, will feature her a great deal.
