here in the ‘burbs of DC, this is a regular occurrence. I have some trails that I run and bike on and I come up on deer almost every time. Scares the shit out of me.

me and the wee twins had some great wildlife moments this weekend. got to watch a heron take off from not too far away, then came up on a fish that had just been speared by a bird, who left i think because of us. i put him back in the water and got to explain that just like catch and relese you have to cuddle them a bit until they get their wits about them. this one tho was too far gone, bleeding out its side. i was like natgeo god to them after i told them to watch the water’s surface because of all the bugs, that a fish would pop up and eat one and sure enough one did.

then, a few minutes later we surprised a deer on a bike trail. he/she ran into the woods but had nowhere to go because of a flooded river bank, so it hung in the woods and watched us watchhing him/her. i got nervous that it was gonna charge, but probably only because i had little ones with me

At the course I used to work at the owner had a dog that he would let run wild every morning to try and scare them off. They shit EVERYWHERE.

yeah, every course down here has a bunch of resident Canadian geese. they also just had their chicks and are quite protective. if those fuckers start hissing, it’s best to turn around and leave.
