Timeline Leading Up to Jim Tressel’s Resignation
Here’s a brief timeline of events leading up to Jim Tressel’s resignation. I probably should start this list with the day Tressel inked Terrelle Pryor, but let’s just fast-forward to that fateful March night when Yahoo exposed Tressel for lying. It was all downhill from there. Tressel had a nice run. Seven Big Ten titles. One National title (2002). It’s over. Bring on the sanctions.

What a fucking coward. He could have had the decency to resign on Flag Day.

That being said, he only broke NCAA rules and fuck the NCAA.
Lisk or any other lawyers out there – Could the players get in trouble for not paying taxes on the cars?

How many get vacated? I would be 2010 for sure…maybe more?

I’m not a lawyer but I do watch Oprah once in a while…the people who won those Pontiacs a few years ago had to pay taxes on the vehicles…but these players are scholar-athletes, so I doubt it.

Crazy fall for sure. Pretty sure millions of other Big 10 fans want to thank Pryor and the Tatoo-5. Maybe now OSU won’t hammer that shit league every year.

If they didn’t get in trouble for recruiting violations can they still lose scholarships?

Yes. See: USC

Really, you could extend this timeline way back to his days at YSU, the Clarett scandal, all the money Holmes, et. al. took, and then this scandal. He’s been shady from day one, and it took decades for it to finally catch up to him.

I don’t have it handy but there was an article written about why you can’t compare osu and usc’s situations at all. Most of it had to do with the fact that osu self reported all of it while USC did not.

In 2 years when Urban is coaching at TOSU, all the Buckeye haters will be longing for the day when Tressel was blowing NC games with his stale offense. Tressel jumped on the grenade for the program as most fans expected he would. With his departure goes most of the NCAA heat. If Meyer was starting from scratch, he would have them back in 2 years. He won’t be starting from scratch…and btw, Penn State and Michigan will still be irrelevant.

If you’re going to use that analogy I’d argue that he was the one who made the grenade and then pulled the pin in the first place.

Wow, just logged into the world today and see this. So he was more or less “asked” to resign rather than being fired?
May 30th, 2011 at 12:13 PM
No way did he fall on a grenade either. This program will be set back 3 or more years now with everything that is coming out and the NCAA sniffing blood. Meyer will not take on this headache.

IMO all the coaching talk is premature…august is when osu finds it’s fate. As of now the NCAA hasn’t re-opened it’s investigation (not after the cars or after ray small). I guess that could change after the si article but we’ll see. Personally I thought punishment was going to be not as extreme as USC and even if it is usc’s level I doubt that would keep a big time name away.
At the very least luke fickell (who a lot of buckeye fans considered the unofficial coach in waiting) gets a few years to see what he can do and ride the storm out.

Like I said, the NCAA hasn’t re opened it’s investigation yet… Until they do then it’s still just tress and the coverup and not any of this other stuff. SI article should be interesting.
