Yahoo Reports That ESPN’s Mike Brown is Close to Being the Next Lakers’ Coach
Mike Brown to the Lakers?: The ESPN analyst is in “serious” discussions with the Lakers to be their next coach, according to Yahoo. Wait. How is Yahoo beating ESPN on this story? Mike Brown’s currently working for ESPN! I wonder which NBA reporter – Broussard? Bucher? – had to answer a terse email/text/phone call from an ESPN editor last night. At any rate, I’m a bit surprised the Lakers are going to give 4-years, $16 million to a coach whose career to this point was made by LeBron. I thought Brian Shaw would make the most sense, since he’s been coaching there as an assistant to Phil Jackson since 2004. You think Brown will be able to handle the egos in that locker room?

Give it to Kareem!

Well, this makes little sense.

He’s a really good coach. Got a raw deal in Cleveland. Gilbert as much to blame as his players. Think this is a good hire for the Lakers. Now they need to restock the cupboard for him.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:10 AM
I think it will be more interesting to see what he does with a team that isn’t comprised of one or two players.

Bob Stoops to Notre Dame?
/that how that works?
May 25th, 2011 at 11:11 AM
His star has committed himself to the Lakers, unlike the guy from the previous team who just wanted to be a piece of the puzzle.

Hoping for Riley 2.0 but have a bad feeling its Rambis 2.0
May 25th, 2011 at 11:12 AM
yeah, but kobe >>>> lebron so it should work out much, much better.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
I wish TBL didn’t like fucking basketball so god damn much.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:16 AM
You and me both, sg.

I’m not sure how it was Gilbert’s fault. He may have acted like an asshat after LeBron left, but that dude open the checkbook to whatever his GM and coach wanted to get. You cannot ask for a better owner than that when it comes to pro sports.
As for Brown, he is a great defensive coach. He needs help offensively, though. I think it’s hilarious that Brown is seen as the guy for LA. The number of people that can be blamed for the Cavs not winning last year is dwindling… to eventually 1.

In reference to Danny feeling he needed to fire Mike in order to keep LeBron. It didn’t work and it wasn’t a good decision.

It’s the sport he knows the most about and generally has good posts about it, you’d rather there be more of his baseball musings?
May 25th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
That works, but Stoops to the Lakers is more acceptable meme.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
I don’t know – I kind of like his starry-eyed posts of these halcyon days of the NBA while completely ignoring the impending work stoppage.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:24 AM

For comedy’s sake? Yes.

Are you in dire need to read about the Jets? Or Michigan football?

What’s the record for most field goal attempts in a game? Kobe might double it.

is that KK link TBL posted earlier good? i have never seen it, but i am curious because she is hot
May 25th, 2011 at 11:34 AM
So earlier, when I was on ESPN, and I read a title: Sources: Brown 1st pick to be Lakers’ coach, I thought it meant Larry Brown. Then I clicked it ready to laugh, and laughed twice as hard when they said Mike Brown.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:34 AM
Well if it’s not Shaw, then I guess it’s sayonara to the triangle.
/sniff sniff
//pours one out for Tex

it’s a sex tape, and she’s younger than she is now. You might not like it, because of the skin color of the other participant.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:37 AM
Wait…Mike fucking Brown is going to coach the offense?!?!?!
His offense in Cleveland consisted of “give Lebron the ball in isolation and run pick and rolls”
WTF.
I’d rather have Van Gundy or Shaw. How the fuck do you go from PJ to Mike Brown?!?!
May 25th, 2011 at 11:37 AM

i will watch anyway with my thumb over the other guy. thanks for the heads up, sharpton.

I think the Lakers will be downtrending with whatever coach. I dont’ know how they’ll handle a hard cap either, since they’re way, way up there in salary.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
Shaw should be coach. Give that dude a chance.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:40 AM
Answer: Jim Buss has a fragile ego.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:40 AM
If you want all off the field doom and gloom without a scrap of actual gameplay there’s duffy writing college football posts.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
KK’s sex tape sucks btw.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:42 AM

If they go Van Gundy, I will fucking quit them…
May 25th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
Is that even possible? Is she trying to cover up the goods or something?
May 25th, 2011 at 11:48 AM
That’s just untrue. Like Wally said, he spared no expense. Did he put himself in trouble by “enabling LeBron” – sure, but name me a small market owner who wouldn’t have been pigeonholed into the same situation?
Gilbert opened up his checkbook, even when it wasn’t prudent to do so. He paid more scouts and number crunchers than any other team in the league. He revamped the Q when most owners would have left it alone. Heck, he LOST money on the Cavs two straight years, when other owners would have milked the gravy train and took LeBron for granted.
Just don’t get the thought process that somehow he was the problem.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
They don’t really show dick going in, which is a huge concern.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:50 AM
I always thought Mike Brown was a very good coach. Have no idea if it’ll work with the Lakers, but he turned the Cavs into an elite defensive team with some mediocre/slow defensive players.
The Lakers need an overhaul, that’s for sure. They still need a PG, athletic wings, and shooters.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:53 AM
Read the follow up, Cursed. I think he shouldn’t have been fired. Brown is a good coach. Danny fired him in a last ditch effort to retain LeBron.
May 25th, 2011 at 11:56 AM
SouvenirCity, I agree. And where did you get your name from? Not Matt Underwood’s cheesy homerun call is it?
May 25th, 2011 at 12:00 PM
Doubt that’s happening, contracts being what they are. In a different offense guys mau prove to be more capable. I’m hoping Blake/Brown could be effective. We could def use another shooter. Korver may be on the first train leaving chicago thurs night. Whoops, he is only good AGAINST la.

It seems like Luke’s contract just runs forever.

Any Lakers fan that hates this hire needs to think about the alternative. Mike Brown >>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Riddler
