Joey Votto’s Sportscenter Commercial Took Two Hours, 18-20 Takes
Joey Votto’s Sportscenter commercial made its debut Monday, and while he’s solid, “Mr. Redlegs,” the Cincinnati mascot, is brilliant without saying a word. Votto told the Cincinnati Enquirer the spot took two hours to shoot, and about 18-20 takes. Votto’s statistics in 2011 are a bit down from his 2011 MVP campaign, and the Reds are 3.5 back of their rival Cardinals in the NL Central.

Droobs hit another two dingers while they were shooting this.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:33 PM
I got to tell you…I have no idea what this means.
Is this impressive? Is it long by SportsCenter commercial shoot standards?
Or is this another sponsored post?
May 24th, 2011 at 1:36 PM
I would say that’s terrible. How do you take 18-20 takes for that garbage?
May 24th, 2011 at 1:36 PM
I think its another kick to the groin of hockey fans
May 24th, 2011 at 1:38 PM
Ravech should really go to MLB Network. Then they could tie that smushsmortion Baseball Tonight to a tree and shoot it in the head.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:38 PM
did that author interview ever get posted?
May 24th, 2011 at 1:39 PM

Well, Votto is Canadian.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:39 PM
IIRC, when I skimmed through the weekend posts, I think it was buried on Sunday for some reason.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:40 PM
did that author interview ever get posted?
On Sunday.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:40 PM
Really? The guy had two lines and had to wash his hands. Does that mean I’m supposed to believe that acting is really difficult? Or should I believe that Joey Votto is probably slightly to moderately dopey?
May 24th, 2011 at 1:40 PM
Well, Votto is Canadian.

guess that interview was some high quality H2O
May 24th, 2011 at 1:41 PM
I think it was buried on Sunday for some reason.
I’m trying to be diplomatic because I usually like the interview posts on here but it wasn’t great. I think that’s why it got buried on a non-football Sunday
May 24th, 2011 at 1:43 PM
Pre offseason speculation!
May 24th, 2011 at 1:43 PM
It was. I expected more. Many people have said it already, but the answers the guy was giving were kind of meh. I doubt it got more than 50 comments before we started talking about import beer, BBQ, and pooping.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:43 PM
Ravech’s hairpieces never cease to amuse me.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:43 PM
stark, the author seemed reticent at best. no chemistry maybe, or the questions were poor, or he’s a dick
Maybe TBL opened by telling him never to sniff around TBL
May 24th, 2011 at 1:43 PM
Does that mean I’m supposed to believe that acting is really difficult?
It’s not really difficult but there is some training involved. Most people are nervous/self-conscious in front of a camera and you have to block it and light it properly. 2 hours doesn’t seem terribly efficient but it’s not that bad, either.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:44 PM
tough to not expect more after all those sponsored posts about the book.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:44 PM
Isn’t he gay?
/a TBL rumor post two years ago
//maybe he should email him and ask?
May 24th, 2011 at 1:44 PM
These PRETZELS are MAKING me THIRSTY!
May 24th, 2011 at 1:44 PM
Speaking of Joey Votto, why the fuck can’t Breakstone’s figure out how to develop a peel-away cover to their individual sized cottage cheese packs that comes off in one peel?
/has nothing to do with Joey Votto
May 24th, 2011 at 1:45 PM
Maybe TBL opened by telling him never to sniff around TBL
Lisk’s comment about his own diva exploits behind the scenes made me laugh. I think that was actually the highlight of the post for me. I think I only lurked on that one
May 24th, 2011 at 1:46 PM
Thought for sure it’d be a advocacy commercial for equal marriage rights among genders. You know, since Votto is gay and all.
/pours one out for busted link
//wishes more people could have seen that spectacular post
May 24th, 2011 at 1:46 PM
He had to wash his hands and say 7 words. I counted them, he said 7 fucking words. Nothing idiotic out of Cincinnati ceases to amaze me.

I already like the new guy. If you hate the Wings, I have to assume you hold allegiance to another central division team. That, or you’re just a good solid American who hates communism.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:49 PM
I’m actually a Leafs fan
/ducks
May 24th, 2011 at 1:50 PM
Hopefully for Wings fans he takes Erickson (Eriksson? Ericson?) with him.

Recalls Rafalski wearing the red, white and blue, getting beat on the “Golden Goal“.

You poor, poor guy.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:52 PM
By the way, how many people are named after a horse now? Are Hoof Hearted and I’m a Horse going to have an 11 furlong race for supremacy at some point?
Condolences.

Good trade-off for 6 million duckets. Need to go get a righty d-man.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:53 PM
Will we get another perspective on this in the tell all book? Was Chris Berman having sex in one of the stalls in the first ten takes? Who ate Peter Gammons tuna sandwich?
This and more on the next As Bristol Turns.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:53 PM
Good trade-off for 6 million duckets.
Depends on how they spend the money, but yes, he’s not a $6M defenceman anymore.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:54 PM
I have great closing speed, and I love the mud. Euphemism intended.
To make matters worse, I am from upstate NY and got into hockey right when the Rangers and Devils were in their hay day, but I got CBC and TSN on TV and just gravitated to the Leafs cause that’s all that was talked about.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:55 PM
May the zombies take you.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:56 PM
Depends on how much he wants. He has the ability to be a solid top 4 guy. Needs to toughen up and cut down on the mental mistakes.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:56 PM
That’s unfortunate. Why not the Sabres if you’re upstate?
May 24th, 2011 at 1:56 PM
I got CBC and TSN on TV and just gravitated to the Leafs cause that’s all that was talked about.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:57 PM
Too young to be around for the French Connection in Buffalo?
May 24th, 2011 at 1:57 PM
I say move Hudler to defence. That should shore things up there.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:59 PM
I see we have a ‘defence’ epidemic going on in here
May 24th, 2011 at 1:59 PM
I say you should come to grips with saying, “adios to Erhoff and Torres.”
May 24th, 2011 at 2:00 PM
I was virtually equidistant from both cities (and actually closer to Ottawa than either of those two) but there was just a ton more Leafs coverage.
May 24th, 2011 at 2:00 PM
Berman was having sex with the Tuna sandwich in the bathroom stall, Gammons then bought lunch in the cafeteria.
May 24th, 2011 at 2:01 PM
It’s quite a labour reading all these extra vowels.
May 24th, 2011 at 2:02 PM
it’s making me nuts.
May 24th, 2011 at 2:05 PM
Extra vowels add more colour to words.
May 24th, 2011 at 2:06 PM

The Queen’s English or GTFO.
May 24th, 2011 at 2:07 PM
I’ve come to terms with losing Erhoff, and can accept losing Torres as long as they keep some of the other guys especially Hansen. Some of the guys coming up can fill Torres spot (I hope)
May 24th, 2011 at 2:08 PM
I wish the Sharks had a defenSe epidemic instead of a penalty-taking one
