2011 Heisman Odds: Andrew Luck is Favorite, Kellen Moore Not Even on the List
Boise State should start the season in the Top Ten. Kellen Moore is a returning Heisman finalist. Some even project him as the best player in college football. The bookies, however, seem to have a different view of how Boise State’s receiver by committee will turn out. SBG Global released its initial Heisman odds (first reported here). Moore isn’t even on the list.
Moore may not be an NFL stud in the making. His floating deep balls may be deliciously easy to pick off in NCAA 2011. But he’s not one of the 12 best quarterbacks in the country? He can’t make a list that posits Maryland’s Danny O’Brien (60-1), Arizona’s Nick Foles (30-1) and Michigan State’s Kirk Cousins (33-1) as legit candidates? Perhaps, they think Moore’s candidacy dies the first week against Georgia. Aaron Murray (45-1) is listed.
The most bizarre line is Denard Robinson who is 5-1, tied for second favorite. I think Michigan will be better than expected, given Hoke’s charisma, Greg Robinson’s absence and their unimposing schedule.
Non-Conference Home : W. Mich, Notre Dame, E. Mich, San Diego St.
Conference Home: Minnesota, Purdue, Nebraska, Ohio St.
Conference Away: Northwestern, Michigan St., Iowa, Illinois
However, Denard is learning the West Coast offense. Even pared down and tweaked for his skill set, he’s still going to be running less and making more complex passing reads. He progressed greatly throwing the ball from his freshman to sophomore year. Though, even the comparatively simple passing reads he had to make in Rich Rod’s offense last year were often an adventure. They will get him into open-space enough to make plays, but 5-1 seems a bit strong.
The favorite is Andrew Luck at 5-2, which shouldn’t be surprising. He’s just a machine. In eight games last year after the Oregon loss, he threw 19TD to 3 INT and had at least a 70 percent completion rate in every game. They should be in the Pac 12 title mix. Their toughest games, Oregon and Notre Dame, are both at home.
SBG’s second favorites are Denard and South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore at 5-1, followed by LaMichael James and Landry Jones at 6-1 and Justin Blackmon at 10-1. Ryan Broyles and Trent Richardson are both 12-1.

I still can’t believe Greg Robinson still gets work.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:34 AM
Sure.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
Blackmon is best player, but he’s a wide receiver, so it will be tough to win.
put a hundy on Kirk Cousins…33-1.

Montee Ball
A .500 season will make this a reality based on my expectations
May 17th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
I’ll put a $20 on Lattimore
May 17th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
I think Landry Jones should be the favorite. Luck is gonna lose some games this year.

I think at USC will be a tad tougher than Notre Dame at home.

no robert griffin III? failure of a list.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
Twitter is so Duckworth right now with Killebrew’s death notice.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:42 AM
Garrett Gilbert off the board?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:42 AM
In 1st 8 games of the season Michigan State – (at) Notre Dame (at) Ohio State (at) Nebraska, also hosting Wisconsin and Michigan. Even if they end up winning 8/9 games that stretch early on should knock him out of national spotlight
May 17th, 2011 at 11:42 AM
Gerg Robinson isn’t getting work. His ass got fired along with BitchRod.
As for Kellen Moore, he plays for Boise and looks like a lesbo, not a good way to win a Heisman.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:43 AM
Darkhorse candidate.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:43 AM
New leader in the clubhouse for most unintentionally hilarious thing I’ve read all year.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
“Pac-12″ just looks weird.

Is Matt Barkley considered ineligible since he plays for USC?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
they play soccer in arkansas?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
I’ll believe that when I see it. Kiffin is unproven. Monte Kiffin is unproven in today’s college game. Their depth leaves them 1-2 offensive line injuries away from utter disaster.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
Darkhorse candidate.
but he’s white.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
Click on the link. He’s 15-1.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
wait, if they are winning those games, wouldn’t that put him in the spotlight? especially if he is playing well in them?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:47 AM
Click on the link. He’s 15-1.
oops, must have passed over it.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:47 AM
Really, really dark horse. So dark, that he might not be starting by the 3rd game.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:48 AM
also hosting Wisconsin
WI played @ MSU last year. I’m assuming the home/away aspect of the B1G schedule is out of whack now that the Legends and Leaders Conferences (gag) are in effect?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:48 AM

Really not trying to be a homer. Not really.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
Texas must have great QB depth if they can replace a top 5 guy.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
MSU is losing at least 3 games this year.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:50 AM
i was kidding about Cousins as a serious contender. Like everyone was about Stanzi.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:50 AM
This must be before the masses start clamoring for McCoy the Younger.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
Blackmon, Jeffrey, and Blackmon should be a great battle for best WR.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
Needs more Rob Bolden.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
This happened under the old system sometimes too (see: Ohio State playing at Camp Randall in both 2002 and 2003)
4 night games for the Badgers this year, a strange new world we’re in now
May 17th, 2011 at 11:52 AM
Difference is one of them got drafted while the other will be using his degree. If he graduates without committing a felony like the rest of the team.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:52 AM
I would be okay with a 3 loss season. MSU having back-to-back 9 to 10 win season would be huge.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:53 AM
have you watched Michigan State play football pre-2010? Even last year…didn’t play Ohio State, got bitch-slapped by Alabama and Iowa, labored against Northwestern, Purdue, Penn State, had the trick play work out against ND.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:54 AM
Cousins will be drafted before Stanzi was. Try again PED & Drug House U

Indeed. What, no Jon Budmayr for Heisman talk?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:54 AM
Sparty never puts 2 good years together, looking at a 7 win team.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:55 AM
really? that’s the best you have? Cousins will get drafted and has won awards for his community service. in fact, he’s pretty much like tebow off the field.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:55 AM
I get the Lattimore love because dude had a stud freshman year, but it’s funny how Knile Davis had a better season than he did, while playing in less games, and get’s nearly no love (+1500).
also surprised there was no Tyler Wilson on there.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:56 AM

As an addendum, 11AM games need to be abolished. I know they do it for TV, but damn, those are brutal. Especially if you’re going.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:56 AM
you forgot thrashing michigan in the big house.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:56 AM
Not saying MSU won’t be decent, but for Cousins to win Heisman, MSU probably has to win B10, which is a big ask for them with that schedule.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:56 AM
Where’s Terrell Pryor?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:56 AM
You really think they’ll be bowl eligible?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:56 AM
I dunno. Has anyone claimed that you become a better person when you spend 5 minutes with Kirk Cousins?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:56 AM
Gregg Childs is still the best WR in the SEC.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:57 AM
Millen predicted that MSU will compete for a spot in the Mythical National Title Game. No joke. MSU be fucked now.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:57 AM
oh jebus duffy, i was kidding about him winning the heisman.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:57 AM
don’t see luck having a great year…harbauhs gone and oregon and usc should be much better on d.
May 17th, 2011 at 11:58 AM
I actually like them at 11 when watching on TV because it gets the game out of the way right away but attending is a whole other animal…sucks having to get up on a Saturday early enough to be at the bar before 8
May 17th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
Isnt Childs the guy that dropped like 9 passes in the sugar bowl?
May 17th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
Trent Richardson.
/homer
May 17th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
Haven’t you heard? Getting arrested is the first sign of a step into the elite. Especially when you manage to sell drugs to your teammates for 4 seasons without gettign caught. That’s called escapability.
Chris L. Rucker and his DWI are just child’s play. We had 12 alcohol related arrests last year. None of which resulted in a 12 men on the field penalty for having a parole officer out there.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:01 PM

I remember Homecoming in ’07 was against MN and started at 11. I had to set my alarm for 6AM. Don’t think I set it earlier than 830 for the entirety of my college career other than Saturday home games.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:01 PM
No, that was Joe Adams. Childs busted his knee up and missed the last couple games of the year. made the game winning catch against Georgia.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:02 PM
but for Cousins to win Heisman, MSU probably has to win B10, which is a big ask for them with that schedule.
whixh is the biggest fucking problem with the heisman. it’s best player, not best player on a winning team. this ain’t a hoops retio

im w duffy (pre-diplomatic response)…msu are FRAUDS.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:05 PM
The biggest problem is that only two positions realistically compete for it with the random appearance of a WR in the top five
May 17th, 2011 at 12:05 PM
correct answer is winning the B10…again.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:07 PM
Hall of Fame slugger Harmon Killebrew passes away at the age of 74 from esophogeal cancer. RIP to #3.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:07 PM
in what way? i think most think they will win 8-10 games at best.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:07 PM
Except for the part where he didn’t…
May 17th, 2011 at 12:07 PM
Maybe they were thinking Kellen “shot put” Moore lost this three best receivers and is going to have to ACCURATELY toss a ball to some new guys.
Moore has some composure, but I swear, if there has even been a QB that looks like he’s playing 500 out there, it’s him.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
man, next year is gonna be hard for you. suicide watch.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:11 PM
How does OSU not win the B1G? You going to make a case for Nebraska?
May 17th, 2011 at 12:12 PM
i’m gonna go with them having star players missing games, and a coach missing too
May 17th, 2011 at 12:13 PM
Lamar Miller. Book it.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
i’m gonna go with them having star players missing games, and a coach missing too
They only miss 2 B1G games though, neither of which are against top-tier opponents if I remember correctly. I believe they host MSU in one of them.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
playing 500
you mean the baseball game 500….where one guy hits the ball and the other guy gets points off catching it on the fly (100), off one boucne (75) and then two bounces (50)?
man that game kept me busy
May 17th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
Oskie, you’ve been around for awhile. Everyone in the Big 10 but tOSU is a fraud of some sort in Spencer’s eyes.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
I guess I am misreading where Knile had 125 more yards on 45 less caries. you are correct about the total amount of games though, but Knile wasn’t the starter until the 5th game.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
Four of those games are non-conference. One of them is against a basketball school in conference. Even if they lose to the basketball school, they’ve got 7 conference games left to win out.
I’m not seeing how this affects them in conference play. National title, sure. Not conference title.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:15 PM

What he said.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:16 PM
Just looked at my site…Kellen Moore is +800, only lower guys are Luck +300, Lattimore & Robinson +500, Jones & James +600. Obvious snafu/clerical error at SBG Global, and not a damn thing more.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
but not only do they miss games, i believe they don’t practice. that team is gonna be all kinds of fucked up.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:19 PM
Yeah, won’t question that line of thinking. But OSU is like Tiger in the early 2000s. If you give me Tiger against the field, I’m taking Tiger.
I also don’t think tattoos and e-mails will be their Perkins in a parking lot.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:20 PM
More TDs, and considerably more receiving yards. Puh-leeze. There’s not a soul on this planet who thinks Davis had a better season than Latty, other than those that have at one time yelled Pig Sooey in a crowded stadium. Additionally, he pretty much single-handedly won the UGA and Bama games; Davis had a very good season, but there wasn’t a single game that you could say that about for him.
And finally, Davis had the benefit of having Mallet at QB; Latty had to deal with Garcia.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:20 PM
When I was sixteen, I got to go to Cooperstown. That day, Killebrew, Brooks Robinson, and Phil Niekro were signing autographs and I got all three. Pretty amazing experience. All three seemed like genuinely nice individuals. They were having a great time signing stuff.
Of course, he decided to stop treatment because he felt like it wasn’t worth it anymore so at least he was at peace with his decision. RIP Killebrew.

Big Ten fans wouldn’t know good quarterbacking if it popped up in their meth pipes.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:21 PM
So did every running back since gas was still $2 a gallon.
/it was on a tee
May 17th, 2011 at 12:21 PM
Yeah instead having their 5 star QB practicing their other 5 star QB will be playing. And their fantastic backup RB’s will be practicing and playing. Oh no!
May 17th, 2011 at 12:21 PM
Doesn’t Heisman history show us that it’s going to be someone totally off the radar that wins it? So that means I’m going deep. Geno Smith at West Virginia. Holgorsen in town. WVU returning a ton of talent. Big East sucks.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:23 PM
It’s a good point; quite frankly, betting on someone to win the Heisman Trophy pre-season at odds of less than 20-1 is a major, major sucker bet. And the books just eat this crap up, they love setting up these bets for fools.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:24 PM
I know, I was just messing with you. Davis gets overlooked quite a bit though. Lattimore is a beast, like you said he single handidly won games, Davis didn’t have too. Those 3 TD’s he scored against Serkalina had to sting just a little bit though.
May 17th, 2011 at 12:25 PM
+1 alcohol related Spurrier suspension
May 17th, 2011 at 12:28 PM
the entire game stung; only thing that made it easier was watching it in a bar in Louisville with a pocket full of cash from betting on Blame over Zenyatta in the BC Classic earlier that evening.

May 17th, 2011 at 12:57 PM
Dammit. Of course I miss this post. My hunch is this will be a big year for RBs and I’m guessing Michael Dyer surprises a lot of people but Auburn isn’t gonna go 14-0 again this year, so he won’t win. SEC OPOY maybe. Lattimore bugs me. He looks slow and lumbering. He’ll get a ton of carries but he’ll average under 5ypc. Knile Davis is interesting but I don’t think he’ll get enough publicity. Somebody throw some B1G RBs at me, other than Montee Ball. The Michael is a threat if Oregon can go 12-0 again. I love the Lamar Miller movement in U fan circles but he realistically isn’t gonna carry it enough. Don’t sleep on Storm. I know Lamar’s got the size for it, too, but Storm is the bulldozer. He runs with real power and Golden is going to love having those two guys (and Seantrel) this year and next

Putting $100 on Richardson and $20 on Floyd (ND homer). Both will put up huge numbers, but I love that Bama O-line and the PSU game will be the launch of Richardson’s Heisman campaign.
May 17th, 2011 at 2:40 PM
Oh, yeah, forgot to say for Trent Richardson:
Pensacola is in the building and that’s all I have to say
