I’ll say it: She’s a good writer, but not a good sports writer. I think she’s terrible at long-form. The Knicks piece was a regurgitation of everything any NYK fan already knows. If you’re going the writing from a disgruntled fan POV, please keep it shorter. It’s like telling me a bad beats or fantasy story. I DON’T CARE. Her puck bunny piece, which supposedly was mind blowing to the Deadspin commenters, was extremely uninteresting. I think her hockey chops are weak as we didn’t see the humor in the same parts of 24/7. Oh well. To each his own.

To stave off, “You’re a misogynist!” comments. I think Emma Carmichael’s done the best job on the roundup-style stories on DS in awhile.

Anyway, as for Simmons, I’m a fan. I think he filled the niche of blending popular culture and sports back in the day and he has been the flagbearer of that revolution since. He does it very well when that is his focus and while he may not have his fastball like he once did, he still can be entertaining if only for some of his friends appearances (Kimmel, Carolla, etc). Simmons is what he is, and he did it well, but I’m still not sure what need or value added Klosterman provides. Any overly self important dickwad could publish a diary of pointless observations.
