The Washington Wizards New Uniforms Are Fantastic
The Washington Wizards unveiled their new uniforms today and I must express with the vigor of James Lipton that they are an absolute delight. What we’re seeing here is a pleasant return to the team’s patriotic colors worn through the 1996 season — which was sadly big Gheorghe Muresan’s swan song with the franchise — when they were aptly known as the Washington Bullets.
I’ve always been disappointed whenever a team completely departs from their signature colors for a brand new color scheme, particularly when the Pistons memorably did so in such overwhelmingly awful fashion, as well as when the Rockets literally went to space in 1995, so the renewed commitment to red, white and blue here is welcomed with open arms.
This look hits all the right notes. It’s clean and sharp, but not overdone. That’s really all we ask for when it comes to uniforms.

Bring back the Bullets.

They look orange in this picture, and they spelled Bullets really funny.

The best return to an old look has been the Sixers (their floor looks great too), beats the hell out of the Iverson-era unis

I bet John Wall rocks some sweet kicks next season.

Change name now please.

The jerseys will look great with the purple seats in their arena.
It’s pretty pointless changing to retro style jerseys w/o changing ‘Wizards’. I understand there are deadlines/pointless rules governing that, but wait and do it right. The home jerseys are shit.

And then Colin Cowherd will spent three segments blistering him for it

Glad the Pistons teal monstrosities are still getting hammered.
These new wiz jerseys are awesome.

i can’t be the only person to think “Fe-Fi-Fo-Fum” with that link

Totally agree. Fitting though that some of their worst jerseys existed during some of their best times (Barkley, Iverson). Barkley always killed the jerseys every time they attempted a new redesign.

As a leading proponent of just referring to them as Bullets no matter what the jersey says, I want to agree with you. And yet, I don’t. Because this is an attempt to sell shit and nobody has ever wanted to own the sort of blue and whatever team colors that they had up until now.

I have ahideous Iverson Sixers jersey that’s still in my closet.

I think with new ownership, Ted is trying to right some wrongs and address the fans feeling on this. The old stuff was universally hated. Wouldn’t rule out a name change at some point either. Ted is a huge improvement at owner, we’ll see if it translates.

yessir.

Jeff Ruland approves.
May 10th, 2011 at 4:38 PM
If heaven existed, are these the jerseys you would want God wearing when you arrived at the Pearly Gates?

24 year old Chris Webber ain’t walking through that door. Sorry, I had to get that off my mind. Seriously, though, I don’t think “Bullets” is ever coming back. I love these new unis and am just glad about that for now

I’m sure he does, but he probably injured himself in the process.

“Re: The name change issue: Leonsis was frank in an interview w/ WTOP earlier this year, basically saying that they looked into options, and it “is considerably more expensive” to change a team name than only the colors”
It comes down to money when changing a teams name. They would have to foot the bill to change everything.
May 10th, 2011 at 4:54 PM
False. They’re boring. And orange.
May 10th, 2011 at 4:56 PM
They are not orange. It’s an image from yfrog, Anne Leibovitz.

Red, White, & Blue. Bullets. It’s not that hard.

Two thumbs up here. Solid.

They can have Antawn back!
May 10th, 2011 at 5:35 PM
Love the new unis, but don’t want to go back to the Bullets name.
I’m biased though, being involved in gun-violence prevention and such. But as a Wiz fan, the name is awful.

If the Tampa Bay
DevilRays could afford it, no reason the Wiz/Bull couldn’t.May 11th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
They are still the Rays, they just dropped Devil not really changing their names. It could be different in baseball. just going with what Leonsis said, he isnt averse to spending money so it must have been too much even for him.
