Roundup: NFL Players Don’t Like Goodell, Michelle Tafoya Leaves ESPN & Pujols Staying in St. Louis?
Ashley Greene … anyone up for a 2012 GOP race discussion? … anatomy of a fake quotation … who is ready for a summer full of white folks in movies? … media reaction to the killing of Bin Laden … nice to see more donations going to the Navy Seals … scary: father passes out while driving, 5-year-old takes the wheel … if you need help with your “that’s what she said” jokes … in 2008, US troops were supposedly within 100 yards of Bin Laden’s compound … North Korea’s political prison camp holds around 200,000 … this actually happened: “Man calls 911 after being shortchanged in crack deal” … everyone loves Pippa! …

Doing much better on Roundup girls this week.
I didn’t watch it… but how in the hell did the Mavs just stroll into Staples and take a steaming dump on the Lake Show the past 3 days?
May 5th, 2011 at 8:17 AM
Haha! ‘From this Moment’ was our last song of the night
May 5th, 2011 at 8:18 AM
it was this one, wasn’t it?
May 5th, 2011 at 8:19 AM
Van Morrison – These Are The Days = first song (in 10 freakin days!)
Dunno last song, but if that ends up being the roundup discussion, I’m going to take notes on ideas…
May 5th, 2011 at 8:20 AM
And Im sorry but no matter what – baseball games should not end at 2:45 AM. What a joke. 11 hours between games. There has to be a ‘curfew’ where you can suspend the game and finish it another day, like today.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:20 AM
That Caps team has serious issues. As much as I dislike Ovi, this one isn’t on him. When the other ‘stars’ on the team (Backstrom, Semin & Green) play as terribly as they did, you have no chance.
Boudreau is going to get the axe but I think he’s an above average coach. I’d gladly take him if the Leafs ever realize how terrible Ron Wilson is.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:20 AM
Shania Twain is terrible.
Exhibit A: Up! album

Terrible night. Heartbroken. Tribe lost. South Park jumped the shark. Only thing that saved the night was Justified.

I’m not a Cardinals fan AT ALL, but they haven’t done anything to not deserve him. Except not be a top-five market of course.

I watched a good portion of the games he played at MSU. I’m no basketball scout, but I knew he wasn’t ready to play in the NBA and that he wasn’t going to get drafted. Just crazy that some agent convinced him he would.

Jeter is not being paid 4x what he is worth. Based on the last season and a bit, it’s probably closer to 8x. It’s been sad to watch. Check out the breakdown of his first 25 hits this year from Posnanski’s blog:

I thought the Cartman part of the iPad episode was great.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:43 AM
Shania Twain is less terrible than every guy that sings country. At least when you hear one of her songs from the 90′s you knew she was tres hot!
That channel with the country music video’s is the best channel with the sound off. Some nice scenery.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:43 AM
but damn that team in 2003 would have been good with him. NO point guard.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:44 AM
Our song: Here, There, and Everywhere by The Beatles

You’ve just mad me sad.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:45 AM
Lost in this moment is a good one. Our final two choices were Thats how strong my love is (Otis Redding) and These are the days (van Morrison)… im not really into the typical super sappy love songs (no offense, Guinnessgirl), so I was looking at a lot of van morrison and a couple by bruce springsteen even
May 5th, 2011 at 8:45 AM
I’m with Garland on the Capitals. Not an Ovechkin fan, but the guy played his ass off.
Green was hurt in the latter part of the year, so he gets a pass. I hope for the Caps’ sake that Backstrom was hurt too, first year of a 10 year contract and he no showed the playoffs. They are only tied to Semin for next year, so can cut their losses easily.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:45 AM
Also considered the song from juno “here is the church / here is the steeple / we sure are cute for two ugly people” haha
May 5th, 2011 at 8:45 AM
i second this.

jordan williams leaving for the draft completely overshadows the capitals disappointing sweep for me.
the terps go from a legit sweet 16 team to a bottom-feeder in the ACC overnight. he’s NOT ready for the jump… fuck me.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:47 AM
Yeah don’t even joke around about this. I had the good fortune to meet the most sane and levelheaded woman in the world, and even she is touch-and-go on some things with this wedding (which is a pretty simple wedding by most standards). I can’t imagine how high-drama women get around then…
May 5th, 2011 at 8:48 AM
I’m having “In my Life” as my song with my Mom, so can’t double-dip on the Beatles. I’m a huge Beatles fan (sorry Spence), but can’t push it too much. We were thinking of doing “Everything I do” for our song, but we can’t get out of our heads the Family Guy ep. where Stewie makes the music video using that song.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:48 AM
Just Breathe by Pearl Jam would be a great first song.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:48 AM
too late. I already called SEAL Team Six on him.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:48 AM
First Song – Bryan Adams, Heaven
Last song- I don’t know to be honest. I think we left early. There was a football game on we wanted to see
May 5th, 2011 at 8:49 AM
Plus if we are suggesting Lady Humps and Powerslave, I’m voting for Silver Spring by Stevie Nicks (mb with Fleetwood Mac still?). That might be the saddest frickin song ever.

May 5th, 2011 at 8:51 AM
I’ve heard “Tougher than the rest” or “better days” by bruce springsteen used. Of course, I routinely listen to the “Born To Run” album straight through when I run or am at work, so I’m a bit biased towards Bruce.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:51 AM
“I used to love her” by Gun’s and Roses
I used to love her, but I had to kill her.

Does that Race Card every get worn out? Or do you just keep replacing it?
/Would be proud to vote for Allen West or Herman Cain
May 5th, 2011 at 8:54 AM
Mantis: A fantastic song to use would be “Tupelo Honey” (Van Morrison) or “If I Should Fall Behind” (Bruce again) if you don’t mind his newer stuff. I’d advise listening to the extended previews on iTunes for all the ones I mentioned, and “share” them with your fiance, and then use the link there to see what she responds to
May 5th, 2011 at 8:54 AM
That Caps team has serious issues. As much as I dislike Ovi, this one isn’t on him. When the other ‘stars’ on the team (Backstrom, Semin & Green) play as terribly as they did, you have no chance.
backstrom was the most dissapointing, personally. i think green is highly overrated and semin has a history of disappearing.
ovi was double shifting the entire 3rd and playing his ass off while everyone else just seemed to lay down. embarrassing for a 4th year in a row.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:54 AM
here’s some fun!
May 5th, 2011 at 8:55 AM
First song – Unforgettable (duet version with Nat and Natalie), barely won out over At Last by Etta James.
Last song – no clue.
/Been married 15 years. I’m old.

Best first song at a wedding is by AC/DC.

No offense, WWOS, we saw them in concert on one of our early dates.
My song with my dad was The Perfect Country Song.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:56 AM
We’re requesting Meatloaf – Paradise by the Dashboard Lights
“Said I’d love you till the end of time… and now I’m waiting for the end of time, to hurry up and arrive, cuz if I gotta spend another minute with you, I dont think I can really survive”
… dunno how that one ended up as one of our songs, but I guess we have a sick sense of humor
May 5th, 2011 at 8:56 AM
That was the one I went with as well.
They need to try to unload him this summer. Send him west and take fifty cents on the dollar if necessary but they can’t let that dumb ass stick around for another year. I hate Pierre McGuire but his commentary on Semin during the replay of TB’s fifth goal was dead on.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:57 AM

May 5th, 2011 at 8:57 AM
She’s not a fan of Van Morrison (although I’m going to get Brown Eyed Girl and Moondance in the night one way or another). Still have two weeks til we meet with our DJ again.

May 5th, 2011 at 8:57 AM
weak in the knees – swv
May 5th, 2011 at 8:57 AM
Oh we also had a 2nd song, Everlasting Love as sung by U2
May 5th, 2011 at 8:58 AM
I’m not married so I am not one to comment on most of these crappy wedding songs (no offense to anyone) but you can’t go wrong with some Van Morrison.
if/when I ever get married, I’ll probably use “Pistol” by Dustin Kensrue. I’ve thought about playing it on guitar, but worried that might get a little sappy.
May 5th, 2011 at 8:58 AM
+1 for a legit LOL

May 5th, 2011 at 9:01 AM
Took some convincing, bc she really wanted “Thats How Strong My Love Is” but that song (These are the days) have basically the perfect lyrics/meaning for a wedding as far as I’m concerned.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:01 AM

May 5th, 2011 at 9:07 AM
I think you’re probably right. In theory, it wouldn’t be a terrible idea for a team that won’t be a serious contender next year and has lots of cap room (your team, for example) to try to get him dirt cheap and then flip him as a rental later in the season. Of course, there is the whole issue of putting an idiot in the dressing room with a bunch of young players, which I think is a legit concern.

May 5th, 2011 at 9:18 AM
Garland, you nailed it in regards to putting him in a room with the young players. The Oilers spent last summer weeding out guys they thought caused internal strife, they won’t be interested in Semin.
I’d also worry about a losing team taking him on, don’t think he’d handle the adversity well. Best place for him would be a team with a strong Russian to guide him (Datsyuk, Kovalachuk), those teams are pretty well capped out tho.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:19 AM

Is it only if it’s more an obscure link (I’m sure lots of people found the “Anatomy of a Fake Quotation” link, but I am pretty sure I was the first to post it here… I just am curious if links get lifted from the comments, or if they are independently found.

If OBrien steps up, the Preds could have a dangerous second line defense with Ryan Ellis.
You’re going to be waiting a very long time if you expect O’Brien to step up. Franson, Blum, Klein and Ellis are much better options, though Ellis likely sees time in the AHL next year.

awesome. have you heard Brad Paisley’s latest? me and the mrs. heard it driving around a few weeks ago and love it. we used to drive to the Smoky Mtns for day hikes and listen to Alabama on the way.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:29 AM
I was best man at my best friend’s wedding years back. His first dance was to my old ex’s (my Kelly Kapowski) and mine song. I couldn’t take it and had to go to the bathroom. Those were dark days.
/BTW, what the cuss is Home Improvement doing on TBS in the morning this week from 7-8, someone needs to be liquidated for that decision
May 5th, 2011 at 9:30 AM
What a bust of a 2nd round for the NHL.
I think the Sharks/Wings series has been some of the best hockey played in the playoffs so far. 2 overtime games and the other a 1 goal game, much closer than 3-1 would suggest.
/Jumbo!
May 5th, 2011 at 9:30 AM
I guess overall, but the Preds series has been very good so far. A couple games were sloppy, but there has been some fantastic goaltending, a late equalizer and double overtime win for Preds in game 2, and another OT in game 3 (decided by a shit penalty).
May 5th, 2011 at 9:30 AM

alabama is great driving music. just awesome. ive heard that paisley song a couple of times, but it takes me awhile to get used to the new stuff. dont listen to the radio much
May 5th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
I didnt realize it went on for so long after I left. One question: Whats the ladder theory?
May 5th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
I think she’s using that as her Father-Daughter song, not sure. Part Time Lover is pretty awesome but not exactly wedding approriate.
I do like the “unforgettable” suggestion from above.

Promise – Jagged Edge or Ribbon in the Sky will be the 1st song I dance to at my wedding if I’m dumb enough to get married
May 5th, 2011 at 9:34 AM
That’s what is making that series disappointing. It’s the only one left worth watching. If Philly makes another 3-0 comeback, I’ll shit in my hat and eat it. Wings will probably win Game 4, but the Sharks are moving on.
If it’s going to be the battle of the postseason choke artists in the WCF, I’ll puke.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:34 AM
The wife said the same thing to me this morning.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:34 AM
Do you guys really remember songs from your wedding?
I had 2 requests for my wedding:
1.Roast beef carving station
2.I don’t remember the 2nd one.

No idea on the rice, but the Chicken Dance is on the “Do not play” list.

I liked Brad Paisley’s stuff before he got married to Pete Sampras’ ex. Not a fan of his stuff much after that except for Time Well Wasted.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:34 AM
the way he works some of the Alabama songs into it was pretty cool.
holy crap, this song is so great. I’m going to be listening to Alabama all morning now. w00t!

Imagine two ladders. One with guys you want to have sex with (in which they are ranked by how desirable they are to you) and one that you put all those unattractive “friends” that secretly want to bang you, but you aren’t interested (also ranked) You can downgrade to the friend ladder, but you can’t upgrade to the fuck ladder.

May 5th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
If you hold on to this, I’ll hold on to Brad Richards wearing an Indian Head next season. Both are probably just as likely.

May 5th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
This is the only detail of the wedding I want control over if I ever get married.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
I think it was just their song, not his actual ex. Right, Cleet?
/read it the wrong way first too.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
After that penalty and the missed 6-men penalty, I have no confidence in the NHL to not rig it to get Vancouver into the WCFs. I guess maybe I’ve just watched too much NBA so I assume NHL is rigged too, but that sucked.
Need the equalizer tonight, I think they need to get Fisher away from Kesler… it’s distracting him too much. Get Weber’s line back on Kesler, and off the Sedin line.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
Thats pretty deep.. and true. There were more than a couple guys on my ‘friend’ ladder that I really wanted to be attracted to, because they were such nice, cool guys and I loved hanging out with them. That sucked. But you cant force attraction.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:38 AM
Oh yeah. I bought this a while back. It’s my current rooting interest should Nashville not move on.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:38 AM
My wedding song was actually Bob Dylan’s “The Man in Me,” the song that plays over the opening credits of TBL. Still cant believe my wife agreed to that one., but she really loved the lyrics.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:39 AM

May 5th, 2011 at 9:39 AM
This reminds me of when Zach was trying to get Kelly jealous after she dumped him for Jeff and danced with that bimbo to ‘their song’ on the jukebox at the Maxx. I think that move got a milkshake thrown on him.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:39 AM
So Oklahoma City is a post season choke artist or Memphis(both unfair)? And if that makes your puke wait until you get a rematch of the 06 finals.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:39 AM
They were after they chose it. I told them to go ahead and do it. I just had a hard time handling it when it came on considering it was open bar and I already made my speech so I had the greenlight to get plastered.
I did bag a brides maid though so it all ended up okay.

I’ve been pretty much the point for the DJ, so this I have control over the do not play list. I’m debating on adding Party in the USA as well, however seeing as that two of my groomsmen had it played in their weddings, I may have to.

After that penalty and the missed 6-men penalty, I have no confidence in the NHL to not rig it to get Vancouver into the WCFs.
Have to give the Canucks some credit for capitalizing on the opportunity. The Wings were afforded a PP on a weak call in OT last night and couldn’t score.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Yes, just the song. “It’s Your Love” by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
Ha SC. wrong sport. I should have read your whole comment. Carry on.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
I think it was just their song, not his actual ex. Right, Cleet?
/read it the wrong way first too.
Oh, I knew he was talking about the song. But if I knew my best man and his woman had just broken up, and their song was on the list of potential songs, I’d immediately veto it. You just have to. I’m guessing there’s a high probability the bride/groom didn’t know though. In that case, that’s a real shitty coincidence.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:42 AM
That was really the first botched call of the playoffs that directly affected the outcome of the game. It sucked that it had to favor the Canucks.
I’ll actually disagree. Keep the Weber-Suter combo on the Kesler line. It allows for them to body him around and wear him down through the game so he’s not as much of a defensive stalwart. With the Sedins struggling, the Preds can afford to do it. If they show life tonight, they may have to put Suter-Weber back on the Children of the Corn.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:43 AM
My brother had a small wedding with no open bar. Bought a bottle of gin on the way, and the second my speech was done, just drank that. Was a little strange being the only drunk one at a wedding though.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:43 AM

You could have saved us 100 comments yesterday by putting this up.
The lesson, as always…..well, you know it already.
Always makes me think of the movie Just Friends.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:44 AM
Isn’t that actually agreeing? I didn’t like Weber on Sedin, and thought Kesler ran the show too much. Get the best defenders on Kesler who has been the best player in the series. Make the Sedins earn the respect they got given to them in game 3 (inexplicably)
May 5th, 2011 at 9:44 AM
there is a station on my cable that plays 30 minute segments of classic country a couple times a day and they throw quite a few classic Alabama videos in there. they get rewound a couple times.

alabama is great driving music.

Wasn’t Weber’s line on the Sedin line most of game 3?
May 5th, 2011 at 9:45 AM
I actually like this song and I’m not afraid to admit it. It’s one of the few pop songs I like recently. Usually I tell those new musicians with their complicated shoes to get off my lawn.

George Strait’s “Run” for me and the wifey. I know that song brings out the haterade, but we were long-distancing it a lot of the first year and I’ve always driven a truck…a Chevy, natch (it’s in the song).

I’m the exact opposite. Where were all of you people when the Senator and I were taking a beating for liking Kenny Chesney? I know it’s “new” country but I have appreciate for the old stuff. George Strait, Cash, Hank Williams etc. But I love me some Montgomery Gentry, Zac Brown, Chesney, Darius Rucker, Toby Keith and Alan Jackson.

My wedding song was actually Bob Dylan’s “The Man in Me,”

May 5th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
I am. Suter-Weber on Kesler’s line. Let the Sedins get O’Brien and Klein. Those two haven’t shown much since Game 3 against Chicago.

Kenny Chesney is awful, I don’t like the ‘new’ country. Had plenty of Cash, Jennings, Nelson, Highwaymen, Williams Sr. at my wedding
May 5th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
Perhaps the Sex Preds should focus on scoring goals on Bobby Lou and just rely on their amazing goalie to stop those rubes eh?

And like I said going into the playoffs. Scoring is going to be a problem. Even containing good forwards like Kesler/Sedins/Perry, at some point you need a goal or two.
