Mike Greenberg is the New Colin Cowherd: Yes, There’s Going to be a TV Show About Mike Greenberg’s Life
Further Proof TV Has Run Out of Original Ideas: There’s going to be a sitcom about the life of ESPN’s Mike Greenberg. (Surely you’ve heard of him – he’s one half of the consistently terrible “Mike & Mike” radio show.) Apparently Greenberg wrote a book (“My Wife Thinks I’m an Idiot”) that a few TV people really enjoyed, and Variety now reports “the single-camera laffer will revolve around a sportscaster who juggles his relationship with his slovenly radio show co-host and his marriage to a sports-hating spouse.” The upcoming Colin Cowherd sitcom will feature a sports radio host who makes obnoxious commentary. Are sports radio hosts that interesting? And if so, when does Scott Van Pelt get his sitcom? As a point of reference, Tony Kornheiser’s life-as-sitcom, “Listen Up!” lasted 22 episodes. I’d set the over/under on Cowherd’s show lasting 16 episodes, and Greenberg’s 12. [Variety]

I was just going to link to this.. sign of the apocalypse
May 5th, 2011 at 9:50 AM
No. These shows will fail. It didn’t work with Sports Night, which was actually decent, it’s not going to work with these.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:50 AM
ugh.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:51 AM
I would watch a show about Steve Czaban, just check out his sports viewing room.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
If he were gay it would already have been made.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
Sharps are pounding the under on these two bets.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
What on earth could be interesting about an unoriginal, unfunny, copycat, inflammatory statement spewing jackass?
May 5th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
Must be nice to work for Disney. Has anyone seen the lineup on the Disney channels? Suite Life? I’m In the Band? Christ those shows suck and they run all day long.
Mike and Mike is no Phineas and Ferb.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
Hey, where’s Perry?
May 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
What? There’s nothing unoriginal about his show, his show is the most unique sports talk show I’ve ever heard. Yeah, tons of shows of national shows are doing bits like “I’m so done with” and “what you haulin” and “you are looking live” and “upon further review.”
You must be a local competitor in the DC market.
May 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
The end of television is nigh.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
I read his book. It honestly wasn’t that bad, I rather enjoyed it. The radio show? Awful. Great guests that get wasted by having to talk to Evan Lysacek and ESPN’s version of Tony Siragusa.
I await your ridicule for liking his book.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
What? I was to busy watching Khloe & Lamar
She’s not the only one.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:02 AM
I would love to see SVP’s infamous “clubbed foot” night out put on TV.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:02 AM
I would watch a show about Steve Czaban
In my younger days I thought he was pretty funny. Then I figured out he really doesn’t know a whole lot about any sport other than football. Also, he’s become way to political. When I was in Milwaukee, he was on every morning as the sports guy for the Bob and Brian Show. I used to think those guys were hilarious, but the last few years I was up there I couldn’t listen to the show at all because it became almost entirely about politics. Their hatred for Obama was jarring. The guy couldn’t do anything right in their eyes. I’d be interested to hear what criticisms they had of him last weekend.
/probably not relevant to anyone who didn’t live in Milwaukee
//sorry
May 5th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
Well, Greenberg’s wife doesn’t hate sports so that’s not entirely accurate what the show is going to depict. I think she actually makes more money than he does though, which was an interesting tidbit. She’s an executive for an advertising firm. Name escapes me though.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:05 AM
I read it as well and didn’t mind it either. Is his wife and/or family really rich? I kinda remember getting that impression from the book.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:05 AM
I think the only person truly happy to hear this news is
Ray Romano. Oh and his agent.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:07 AM
One of the 10 best on TV.
Holy shitballs Batman. All he does is regurgitate stuff he picks up elsewhere, and generally a day later. When he runs out of other people’s stuff, he throws out the inflammatory stuff to rev things up. He is everything that is wrong with sportstalk radio.
I listen to the Junkies and ESPN in the mornings, Czabe has just bullshit on in between 10 min commercial breaks. No serious sports talk, and his shtick isn’t funny. In the afternoons, the Drew Magary stuff is cringe-worthy.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
A&E (I think) is coming down to my turf to do TWO Swamp People ripoffs. TWO.
/and I wonder why people think we are retarded
May 5th, 2011 at 10:10 AM
Don’t forget there’s a Mark Schlereth sitcom coming out too.
/runs out to get potassium cyanide and sulfuric acid for personal suicide booth
May 5th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
You stole that and that was inflammatory!
Obviously it’s all subjective so I can’t kill you for your comments, but I love Czabe’s show b/c I think he’s hilarious and his supporting cast is awesome. Very quick witted and all have great recall. As you can tell, I’m more into comedy on a sports show than straight up sports jaw boning – which just kinda bores me.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:12 AM
I’m saving that for the announcement of the Keyshawn Johnson pilot.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
I think they’ve completed filming of the latest Curb Your Enthusiasm season so Jeff Garlin is available to play Golic
May 5th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
Out of all the shows you watch, how many of you have more than 2 or 3 that air on ABC? The only ABC show I watch is Modern Family. That network is horrible.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
I just don’t get the popularity of that show. Then again, I’m not a huge Jets fan (not a hater), I don’t like dumb song parodies, I don’t like the NBA, I don’t like the Yankees, I don’t like the Red Sox, I don’t like a host rattling off the name of the show every 20 seconds and I don’t like commercials ever four minutes.
Thus, I guess I am not in their target demographic. :^/
May 5th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
Is Greenberg the fat one or the gay one.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:14 AM
I would even argue he doesn’t know much about football either. He believes he is smarter than every Redskin coach over the past 10 years. Just a colossal douche in every regard.
We have some really awful people on here in DC that I swear have never seen or played a sport in their lives. If anyone wants to break into the sportstalk biz, this seems to be the place to do it.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:15 AM
i am glad i stopped listening years ago. satellite radio saved my daily commute.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:15 AM
This. Modern Family is it for me. The only two shows I DVR on network TV are that and Community. Everything else is either AMC, HBO, or Showtime.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:16 AM
Only one show on ABC that I watch occassionally – The Middle. Literally that is it.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:16 AM
Keep in mind cursedcleveland thinks Opie & Anthony are the bees knees.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:16 AM
I watch Modern Family and The Middle. Other than that pretty much only sporting events.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:16 AM
Ooh wait, I forgot about Wipeout. That show is quality.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:17 AM
Open your heart to Parks and Recreation friend
May 5th, 2011 at 10:17 AM
I would even argue he doesn’t know much about football either.
Yeah, I would agree with this as well. I should have said the sport he knows the most is football, and he doesn’t know all that much.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:17 AM
a showed based on chris russo would be interesting. a show even based on mike north would be interesting. may-BEE. why? those guys are so off the wall. greenburg is about as interesting as a nun who teaches the third grade at some nondescript south philly grade school.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:18 AM
Open your heart to Parks and Recreation friend
Such a good show. It’ nice that it sort of took The Office’s place as a workplace comedy once The Office jumped the shark.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:19 AM
last summer my sirius receiver was on the fritz and for about two months I had to stomach local “sports” morning radio in tampa. I’m telling you it is so horrible that you just want to run your car off the howard frankland bridge into tampa bay. three radio stations down here and the “best” by leaps and bounds in the morning was mike & mike.
god local radio in pathetic.

What’s The Middle? I’ve never even heard of that show.
Fox – Glee (although I’m 3 episodes behind and may stop recording it permanently) and So You Think You Can Dance when it comes on
CW – Vampire Diaries
CBS – Good Wife (currently my favorite show)
NBC – 30 Rock, Parks and Rec
ABC – Modern Family
I think I watch too much TV.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:21 AM
They really need to get Jean Ralphio into more episodes.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:23 AM
god local radio in pathetic.
The only good local sports talk radio show I’ve ever heard was Dan Lebatard’s show in Miami. And it’s because they don’t take sports too seriously and half the show is about other stuff besides sports. Also, they rarely take calls. Ever. Nothing grinds a sports radio show to a halt more than some jackass making either an obvious point or one that makes no sense at all.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:23 AM
The fact that anyone, anywhere finds this asshole to have a compelling enough life story to not only commit it to print but to make a TV show out of it tells me we’ve failed, collectively, as a society.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
Only one show on ABC that I watch occassionally – The Middle. Literally that is it.
It’s too bad that Malcolm in the Middle had to recast. Funnier the first run.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
Nah.
I’ve got:
ABC: Modern Family
NBC: Community
AMC: TWD, Breaking Bad
HBO: Game of Thrones, Entourage, True Blood
Showtime: Dexter
MTV: Real World, The Challenge
May 5th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
I didn’t read his first book but I’ve got a galley of his second one if anyone wants it. It’s called “My Wife Thinks I’m Gay”
May 5th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
Totally agree.
/goes back to watching one of tyler perrys 5 shows
May 5th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
Oh, and I forgot Hung.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
Glee is awful. I tried to give it a chance because I like musicals. It’s absolutely horrific.
Modern Family is probably the best show on TV right now.
RIP The Office… should have ended at Jim/Pam wedding.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
The fact that anyone, anywhere finds this asshole to have a compelling enough life story to not only commit it to print but to make a TV show out of it tells me we’ve failed, collectively, as a society.
I don’t think I could come up with a more predictable/boring/bland person that was nationally known if you put a gun to my head.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:26 AM
Nothing grinds a sports radio show to a halt more than some jackass making either an obvious point or one that makes no sense at all.
So you’re saying, paradoxically, that Mike & Mike should take more calls?
May 5th, 2011 at 10:26 AM
Entourage
Oh, and I forgot Hung.
You watch some bad TV, my friend.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:26 AM
I’m halfway through final season of Friday Night Lights. Just watching that show makes me nearly homicidal at all the shit that is on TV while it got cancelled.
Though getting cancelled five seasons in will probably cement it’s legacy, since it won’t have a chance jump the shark.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:27 AM
Says the guy who’s still watching the completely unfunny Office.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:27 AM
its. fuck.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:27 AM
except for last nights episode…thought it was one of the worst they’ve done.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:28 AM
Gun to your head which show would you pick if you were forced to watch one:
Colin Cowherd’s sitcom
Mike Greenberg’s sitcom
I’d probably pick Greenberg’s because I hate him slightly less than Cowherd.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:28 AM
Says the guy who’s still watching the completely unfunny Office.
Michael’s last day as boss was the first episode I watched from start to finish since the wedding. Will Ferrell wasn’t funny at all.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:28 AM
as opposed to the actual hosts doing the same thing?
May 5th, 2011 at 10:28 AM
I don’t watch it, anymore. Just an episode here and there if I’m at work.
I am still trying to figure out if they could remove Jennifer Beals off The Chicago Code and save that show.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
I like it, but the amount of misunderstandings and sexual innuendo they use in their plotlines sometimes makes it seems like an intelligent version of “Three’s Company.”
May 5th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
I’d pick the gun…
May 5th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
as opposed to the actual hosts doing the same thing?
Well, that’s obvious, isn’t it? Lebatard is actually a pretty smart dude though, he always had some interesting takes on subjects when he wasn’t being an athlete apologist.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:30 AM
lol….I’ve been with Entourage since the start…decided to see it through. It’s mercifully coming to an end this summer.
I enjoy Hung though.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:31 AM
Justified.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:31 AM
I mean best comedy, and main networks. Really interested to see if Breaking Bad can overcome the momentum halt and have a good season.
I also like The Closer, as a show you don’t have to watch every episode, but can consistently watch without cringing
/Glares at House, Bones, and whatever shit was on before Modern family I had to turn away from for the 5 minutes I tuned in early
May 5th, 2011 at 10:31 AM
You have chosen…..wisely.
/Last Crusade’d
May 5th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
Agreed on all fronts, it’s basically an old-timey sitcom done up right
May 5th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
Fox: Fringe
ABC: Modern Family
NBC: The Event, Chuck
The Event is terrible, but I’m curious how they attempt to tie up this trainwreck.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
I don’t see how this show is popular. They just sing other people’s songs.
/checks ratings
//”American Idol” #1
Oh…
May 5th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
don’t see why not since they probably had the next steps in the plot in place before the long hiatus… i mean, if they just ended the 3rd season and had no idea what would happen, i’d be sorely disappointed.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
Chuck is another cringe-worthy show that I gave a fair chance…
May 5th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
Badger I read yesterday that Chuck’s on the cusp of being cancelled.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
Gave it two episodes. I got burned by Heroes, so I decided to tell NBC to fuck themselves.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:34 AM
You say that like it’s a bad thing.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:35 AM
/covers eyes for potential spoilers.
Great show, and as usual, I was late to the party.
I just hate getting invested in a show until I know it’s successful.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:35 AM
I though it was good. Cam/Mitchell stuff is always funny. Cam is the shit.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:36 AM
Same here. I begrudgingly watch just to see what is gonna happen. I’m hoping everyone dies.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:36 AM
the event had a great pilot, with a pretty great climax to the pilot…after that it was increasingly crappy.i think i watched 5 episodes before i had absolutely no interest in watching further.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:36 AM
Badger I read yesterday that Chuck’s on the cusp of being cancelled.
I watched the first season… thought it was a decent show with an original idea… just kind of seems like the episodes are just regurgitated story lines. Has chucked slept with the blonde yet, or are they still playing up that sexual tension?
May 5th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
** Chuck** not “chucked.” damn.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
it bothered me for some reason, something seemed off about it, not as smooth as it normally is i guess.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:38 AM
“People think I’m the Mom. Look at us. I could snap you like a twig.”
May 5th, 2011 at 10:38 AM
I’d hope so though this season was a serious improvement over the last two. Writers literally had no clue what to do after the 1st season.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
Soooooooo? When does Sons come back to FX?
May 5th, 2011 at 10:43 AM
@Vega- I live in DC area as well. DC sports talk is terrible. I listen to the Junkies sporadically and when they focus on sports they are pretty good. Czaban is ok in the afternoon but is competition is god awful. Lavar and Dukes may have the lowest spors IQ’s out of any tandem that has ever hosted a sports talk radio show. I know that some real idiots have had shows but these two are absolutely brutal to listen too.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:43 AM
I believe June. I was watching undeclared yesterday and just realized Jax Teller is the english roommate. crazy.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:46 AM
I know, right? What is DC like the 4th or 5th biggest market in the nation? You’d think we could do better than these boobs that we have on. And if I have to hear one more second of John Thompson broadcasting while he’s asleep, I’ll kill myself.
Sports Reporters in the afternoon is tolerable because there’s not so much czabe. but when Drew is on, czabe tries to impress him with how funny and hip he is, and it is an abomination.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
He’s in Children of Men, using his natural accent as well, complete with dreads, too.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
Oh, and I know I haven’t been around as much, but if you haven’t seen 13 Assassins yet, do so immediately. Here’s the trailer.
May 5th, 2011 at 10:56 AM
give Happy Endings on ABC a chance. It was on last night. Kind of a weird but funny sitcom.
May 5th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
Sons of Anarchy won’t be back until the fall. The summer in FX is Louis, wilfred & Rescue Me.
May 5th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
M&M is insufferable and jejune. But for small town radio station owners who are too cheap to pay for local startup talent, M&M would be on about four stations nationally. The “dressup like Justin Bieber” HIGH-larity was yet a new low for this over-reaching, low-talent pair of boobs.
May 5th, 2011 at 11:34 AM
Anybody else watching “The Killing” on AMC?
May 5th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
late to the party on this one- but i cant believe greenberg is getting a show. that sorry sumbitch already thinks he is gods gift to radio. he might be the worst sports personality ever.
May 5th, 2011 at 11:54 AM
greenberg is a big loser. anyone that watches his sitcom is an even bigger loser.
oh yeah, and even if Kobe is done with LA…..he can always go to Boston. They love over the hill guys.
May 5th, 2011 at 11:57 AM
i fucking hate mike greenberg.
May 5th, 2011 at 1:03 PM
TV hasn’t run out of ideas, it’s networks who are owned by corporations not wanting to take risks. There are no creative people running these networks who want to take a risk financially. They’re all on cable or pay channels (HBO, Showtime).
And I’d take Mike and Mike over Fox Sports Radio’s Zack and Jack, which is worse. I don’t know why my local Fox station took away Stephen A. Smith.
May 5th, 2011 at 2:36 PM
Greenberg is a wanker….but if his wife is hot I might watch it.
May 5th, 2011 at 2:44 PM
If this show was about me it’d be just a sold half hour of me drinking and swearing off air constantly.

My thinks I am an idiot by Mike Greenberg.
Wait a minute. The big one is the wife and the little one is the husband?
Now, I get the conceit of the radio show.
