Hurricanes Defensive Lineman Arrested & Accused of Rape; 2nd Miami Player Arrested in Two Months
Remember when Miami coach Randy Shannon was fired and a smattering of folks wondered, “why would you fire a guy who cleaned up the program?” In Shannon’s four years as head coach, the program had only one player arrested. Miami’s new coach, Al Golden, had to deal with this headline today: “UM freshman football player charged with rape.” Golden has yet to coach a game, and the Hurricanes have already had two players arrested under his watch.
The details from Brown’s arrest this week are disturbing. According to police:
The woman had returned home to the dormitory, drunk and ill, according to an arrest affidavit. Brown came into her room, “under pretense he was concerned for her well being,” the affidavit said.
But while she lay in bed, Brown raped her, the woman told police, even though she told him to stop, the affidavit said. She couldn’t physically fight him off due to her intoxication and because the lineman, listed by UM as six feet three inches tall and weighing 295 pounds, was so much larger than her, police said.
Police said that at first, Brown denied having sex with the woman, but later recanted.
Florida’s new coach, Will Muschamp, had to make a tough decision recently and kick the best cornerback, Janoris Jenkins, off his team following an arrest. Brown wasn’t considered an impact player or even a starter with the Hurricanes, but it’ll be interesting to see how Golden handles the arrest. The school said that Brown is “suspended indefinitely,” which is at least a tougher stance than West Virginia might have taken.

/lights the Cleet signal!
May 5th, 2011 at 12:29 PM
Ummm…he’s accused of RAPE which is a MUCH DIFFERENT charge than simple pot possession or drunk and disorderly.
NO SCHOOL WOULD KEEP HIM AROUND.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:29 PM
Miami is going to win the ACC this year.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:30 PM
He’s a redshirt freshman, so this is actually a Randy Shannon recruit fwiw. Kick him off the team. Be done with it
May 5th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
He’s already been kicked off the team.

May 5th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
I think you mean Golden.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
Sorry. That doesn’t fit in with the “Shannon is a saint; the deck was stacked against him because he was trying to win with character guys” narrative I was led to believe.
This one is all on Golden.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
Coach Sam Winters would never allow this. He’d tell

WE’RE BACK BABY! HIDE ALL THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN! THUG U UP IN YOUR MUTHFUCKIN FACE!
/resists the urge to tell TBL for the infinity + infinity x infinity how assbackward retarded his stance on Randy Shannon is.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:38 PM
Can’t kick him off for an accusation.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:40 PM
Somebody punch Donna Shalala in the face…
May 5th, 2011 at 12:40 PM
There should have been a “time” after that last infinity.
By the by, Miami had 8 players taken in the draft and doubtless more in free agency from last year’s team, yet they went 7-6. Yep, Shannon HAD to be kept.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:41 PM
Only if they oversigned? You can kick anyone off for anything, and every SEC school has proven that. Maybe they can’t kick him out of school for an accusation, but it’s easy enough to kick him off the team.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:41 PM
Tom Osborne and Rick Neuheisel disagree.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:42 PM
Still just infinity…
May 5th, 2011 at 12:42 PM
Can’t kick him off for an accusation.
Sure you can. Whether or not he should is the actual debate.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:43 PM
Yep, Shannon HAD to be kept.
They only got drafted because of their reverse character issues. With the facilities at Miami nobody in their right mind would draft a Hurricane
May 5th, 2011 at 12:43 PM
Awww, someone projecting anger over their dirty ass program?
May 5th, 2011 at 12:44 PM

May 5th, 2011 at 12:44 PM
You can do anything you want… to quote Chris Rock “you can drive a car with your feet if you want to, that don’t make it a good fucking idea!”
May 5th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
Ok, technically you can. But if the kid were found innocent the university would face a lawsuit for jeopardizing his future. It’s best to wait until more facts come out before jumping to conclusions and consequences.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
Jeremy Stevens would like to rape you.
Made correcter.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
Hey. Clown, your RT of my Gasol joke last night got retweeted by Gary Parrish. I shed a tear of joy that I got retweeted twice, including the most famous person to ever RT me. And Gary Parrish
May 5th, 2011 at 12:46 PM
Um, this is the internet pal.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
Ok, technically you can. But if the kid were found innocent the university would face a lawsuit for jeopardizing his future. It’s best to wait until more facts come out before jumping to conclusions and consequences.
I agree, but justice in situations like this is not blind. Golden is probably more likely to kick him off being that he is not an important player on the team. If Golden does kick him off while this is still an accusation, then let’s wait for the next Hurricane to be arrested (shouldn’t be long, right cleet?) and see if Golden possesses the character to apply discipline uniformly.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:49 PM
I got RT’d by Simmons a long time ago. That and 3.79+tax will get me a venti something or another at Starbucks.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:50 PM
Notre Dame 33, Miami 17.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:50 PM
Not if we want to win the conference this year it shouldn’t be.
I’m glad at least Florida is getting some recognition after the 30 arrests it has gotten over the past four years, it only took us 3.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:50 PM
I think Hernia is sadly the highest level of fame I’ve reached with a RT and won’t be able to top that until I make the account public again (leaving it on private while job hunting, potential employers don’t need to see my profanity laced thoughts regarding the White Sox)

THE U IS BACK BABY!!!
“You come into our house, you should get your behind kicked. You don’t come into the OB playing that stuff….You can’t come over to our place talking noise like that. You’ll get your butt beat. I was about to go down the elevator to get in that thing…..I say, why don’t we meet outside in the tunnel after the ball game and get it on some more? You don’t come into the OB, baby. We’ve had a down couple of years but you don’t come in here talking smack. Not in our house.”

Did one such tirade include “The White Sox are the suckiest bunch of sucks who ever sucked.”?
May 5th, 2011 at 12:52 PM
You’re really bucking for a promotion today. First with wanting credit for the Roundup link and now bragging about a Simmons RT.
/I keed.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:52 PM
It’s called due process and it even applies to student athletes
May 5th, 2011 at 12:53 PM
I think the strangest RTs come from the WGNTV account. Just take a look. John Buccigross is probably my highest level of RT fame.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:53 PM
That might be even worse though. All I’m saying is that kicking him off before evidence emerges is a bad idea. Just ask the Duke lacrosse program.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:53 PM

What better way to drum up excitement while beating the shit out of a winless FIU team (or was it FAU?) than to incite a fight.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:54 PM
I don’t think it does…
May 5th, 2011 at 12:55 PM
It was FIU ms.

Also props to UM administration by not covering this up like a certain institution of high repute. The victim might have done something drastic.
May 5th, 2011 at 12:58 PM
You can kick anyone off for anything, and every SEC school has proven that.
coincidentally, they’ve also proven to win the last five NCs.

Like stab her live-in boyfriend several years later?
/were you talking about Duke?
May 5th, 2011 at 1:00 PM
it’s an epidemic!
May 5th, 2011 at 1:01 PM
I’m pretty sure there was a court case that proved otherwise … Can’t remember the specific details off the top of my head, but it involved a Georgia Tech athlete he was kicked off the team before he got his due process … Court originally ruled in his favor
May 5th, 2011 at 1:01 PM
No I was talking about the Golden Domers. They’ve had a capital year couple of years off the field. But please, let’s concentrate on Thug U.

Hank Azaria. LEGEND.
May 5th, 2011 at 1:13 PM
i’m trying to be optimistic about the Hankerson pick, but it’s hard when you look at the success WRs drafted by the Skins have had…
/d thomas, m kelly, m westbrook, r gardner, t jacobs

This cracks me up. Two average teams meet, one team without a coach, and the winning team brags like they did something special. And they say bowl games don’t matter…
May 5th, 2011 at 1:17 PM
If I were you I would be more concerned with who the fuck is going to throw the ball to the WRs.

If I were you I would be more concerned with who the fuck is going to throw the ball to the WRs.
i’m hoping for sexy mother fuckin rexy. i can live with a year of that instead of mcnab or trading picks for some other mediocre qb.

Yeesh. Good luck with ALLLLLLLLL that.

please, SC. i’m not expecting good things from him. i just want to keep our draft picks for next year so we can have a shot at barkley or luck.
May 5th, 2011 at 1:32 PM
Ill, Hank is going to be a beast. Is Santana Moss going to be back to form a U tandem at WR? U receivers got a Heisman for Gino Torretta and those weren’t even good ones by U standards. They can make a terrible QB look good.
