2012 NFL Mock Draft, Because We Probably Won’t Be Talking About Football Again Until July
A 2012 NFL mock draft just days after the 2011 draft? Before 2011 free agency commences? Before the 2011 season even begins, assuming there is one? Before the 2011 college football season begins? Before any college underclassmen declare for the 2012 NFL draft? Oh just have fun with it. Thoughts/ideas/names gleaned from Kiper, this mock draft, and this mock draft. The internet loves a good mock draft. Onward!
1. Miami Dolphins - Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
2. Carolina Panthers - Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska – Cam Newton will probably cry for a offensive skill player, and maybe he’ll get one thanks to the new Rookie Wage Scale. Crick moves to DE, becomes their next Julius Peppers.
3. Washington Redskins – Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma – Can he top 4,700 yards and 38 TDs from 2010? Sooners should open the season at No. 1.
4. Oakland Raiders – Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina – Probably should put a QB here, but I (perhaps foolishly) still believe in Jason Campbell.
5. Cincinnati Bengals – Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State
6. Buffalo Bills – Travis Lewis, LB, Oklahoma
7. Denver Broncos - Mike Martin, DT, Michigan
8. San Francisco 49ers -Â Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
9. Seattle Seahawks – Matt Barkley, QB, USC – Reunited (with Pete Carroll) and it feels so good.
10. Arizona Cardinals – Vontaze Burflict, LB, Arizona State
11. Tennessee Titans – Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia
12. Minnesota Vikings – Cliff Harris, CB, Oregon
13. Jacksonville Jaguars – Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State – Everyone’s got him in the Top 5, but a lot of that hinges on the new offensive coordinator at OK State, and how much production Green and Jones do as rookies.
14. Kansas City Chiefs – Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama – Slides right in for Thomas Jones.
15. Cleveland Browns – Alshon Jeffrey, WR, South Carolina – Colt McCoy is a happy, happy man.
16. Chicago Bears – Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College – The replacement for Brian Urlacher.
17. New York Giants – Matt Kalil, OT, USC
18. Houston Texans – Greg Reid, CB, Florida State – Finally, the Texans get a corner! Reid vs. Oklahoma’s Ryan Broyles in September should be fun.
19. Dallas Cowboys – Courtney Upshaw, LB, Alabama
20. Tampa Bay Bucs – Mike Brewster, OL, Ohio State
21. Detroit Lions - Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia – Last hole on the team. Dare to dream about a Super Bowl in February 2013.
22. Pittsburgh Steelers – Mark Barron, S, Alabama – Ultimately, he could replace Troy Polamalu.
23. Philadelphia Eagles – Ryan Miller, OL, Colorado
24. Baltimore Ravens -Â Dont’a Hightower, LB, Alabama – At some point, they’ll have to draft a replacement for Ray Lewis.
25. St. Louis Rams – Nate Potter, OL, Boise State
26. San Diego Chargers – Ryan Broyles, WR, Oklahoma
27. Indianapolis Colts - Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State – The successor to Peyton Manning?
28. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta Falcons) - Dan Herron, RB, Ohio State – The Browns could be a serious playoff contender in 2012.
29. New England Patriots (from New Orleans Saints) – Juron Criner, WR, Arizona – Yeah, like Belichick would take a WR this high.
30. New England Patriots – Adewale Ojomo, DE, Miami – If he has too good of a year in Miami, he’ll go higher. I think he’ll be a breakout player in 2011.
31. Green Bay Packers - Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska
32. New York Jets – Manti Te’o, LB, Notre Dame – Yup, I have the Jets winning the Super Bowl. That obviously will change after free agency, but regarding this pick … Te’o steps in for Bart Scott.

Ugh, manages to get the Jets and Notre Dame within two words of eachother.
May 4th, 2011 at 5:54 PM
I am pretty sure the Rex’s Jets only draft running backs and quarterbacks.
May 4th, 2011 at 5:55 PM
Vontaze is about 8 spots too low.
May 4th, 2011 at 5:58 PM
no no no no and no. The Steelers will be drafting in a spot with a 3 in front of it… 30, 31 or 32
And ultimately, they will still have more pressing needs than Troy’s replacement.
May 4th, 2011 at 5:59 PM
Raiders taking that big a step back? They just started stepping forward.
Packers winning the NFC got me a good laugh though.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:00 PM
They don’t make the postseason in years after WINNING the Super Bowl, they’re doomed in 2011
May 4th, 2011 at 6:00 PM
Wow – you’re predicting the Lions make the playoffs.
On top of that, you have the KC Chiefs apparently taking both their pick and the TB pick (since the Bucs are nowhere to be found on the list and KC shows up twice).
May 4th, 2011 at 6:00 PM
Why? Jeffrey won’t be blocking that Steelers’ D from sacking him.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:01 PM
They’re going to become the new Texans over the next couple offseasons becoming the “sleeper” that everyone jumps on…of course those fans would kill for an 8-8 campaign so this isn’t all bad
May 4th, 2011 at 6:01 PM
That’s funny, I could have sworn the Steelers lost the SB…
May 4th, 2011 at 6:04 PM
15. Cleveland Browns – Alshon Jeffrey, WR
So they take potentially a lesser WR than they could have picked this year and a RB with Atlanta’s pick? Not so sure about that.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:06 PM
So Tampa loses their 1st rounder along with a home game this year?
May 4th, 2011 at 6:09 PM
Not sure how much he covered him last year, but Broyles went 12/124/1 and sat out most of the 2nd half in a blowout win.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:12 PM
Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska
Nice call, he is underrated…I thnk he is better than Prince
May 4th, 2011 at 6:13 PM
good catch on the Bucs/Chiefs.
I meant for the Bucs to take an OL
May 4th, 2011 at 6:15 PM
Greg Reid doesn’t scream 1st rounder to me but who knows. Chase Minniefield is a bad motherfucker. I thought he was better than Ras-I Dowling and Dowling was really good. Why is UVa always so terrible? Anyway, I like Forston as the breakout DL on Miami this year but Ojomo’s pretty good
May 4th, 2011 at 6:15 PM
29. New England Patriots (from New Orleans Saints)
30. New England Patriots
The Pats won’t actually trade 1 of these picks? Whaaaaaaa????
May 4th, 2011 at 6:17 PM
Peter Schrager doesn’t even have Vontaze on his mock draft? Idiot.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:20 PM
\
No way he drops that far. The Lions will gladly take him in the mid 20′s
May 4th, 2011 at 6:20 PM
Well thanks for bombing the Packers season before it even happens! What a kiss of death
May 4th, 2011 at 6:22 PM
Manti Te’o
\

TBL is going to float the rumor that he is of Nigerian descent…
May 4th, 2011 at 6:30 PM
its amazing you get paid to do this.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:30 PM
Ha, the Jets winning the Super Bowl. Good one, TBL.
/banned
May 4th, 2011 at 6:36 PM
It’s amazing how fucking retarded you are.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:37 PM

It’s amazing how fucking retarded you are.
not really
May 4th, 2011 at 6:38 PM
Ted Lilly…goddammit.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:38 PM
What in the blue fuck is this?
May 4th, 2011 at 6:40 PM
Shatner, a Ted Lilly is an overrated pitcher who is apparently going to alternate quality starts with absolutely shitfests for me this season.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:40 PM
Really? Start your own blog. Gain a massive readership. Then try and sell it for a handsome profit. Oh and don’t forget cultivating a loyal and interesting commenting/reading base.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:40 PM
Jets aint winning the Super Bowl, sir. Sorry, but we have too many guys (potentially) leaving and a pretty difficult schedule.
/please God let Sanchez make a leap
May 4th, 2011 at 6:40 PM
Vladdy, you going to either game? I had tickets to Game 2, but sold them.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:41 PM
hahaha
May 4th, 2011 at 6:41 PM
I’m barely even looking at the teams so I’m missing some of the humor. I have to throw my little thoughts out there: Alshon Jeffrey seems like the best WR prospect to me, over Justin Blackmon, and Jared Crick is no kind of replacement for Julius Peppers. He’s
May 4th, 2011 at 6:42 PM
That looks good
May 4th, 2011 at 6:43 PM
Somehow I submitted mid-sentence and also got a “you’re commenting too fast.” Go go gadget fingers. Jared Crick is not a great pass rusher.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:43 PM
Keep in mind I know nothing about the draft for 2012 outside of Luck. But couldn’t this just be a Top 50 or something for the draft? You’re opening yourself up to ridicule, man. You know people will kill you for the Jets pick.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:43 PM
I take back what I said. C’mon man!
BB
I could go to the game If I wanted. I’m just totally satisfied sitting home and enjoying the game on my own terms. I’ve turned down multiple free tix this year cause I would rather just sit home and watch it.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:44 PM
Fantasy Alert, skip if you don’t give a shit….
I was lucky enough to have my brother only get 2 hits total in that game… until I saw those two hits were 1 HR from Soto and 1 HR from Byrd…
May 4th, 2011 at 6:44 PM
I’m gonna get put back into the spam filter, aren’t I?
May 4th, 2011 at 6:45 PM
He could’ve done this by doing a rough estimation of where he thought those players would fall and which teams would be most likely to select them.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:46 PM
You’re opening yourself up to ridicule, man. You know people will kill you for the Jets pick.
Eh, these things are fun. I enjoy em, at least.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:46 PM
Keep in mind I know nothing about the draft for 2012 outside of Luck. But couldn’t this just be a Top 50 or something for the draft? You’re opening yourself up to ridicule, man. You know people will kill you for the Jets pick.
and here I thought you knew the “REAL” truth….
May 4th, 2011 at 6:46 PM
Totally agree, I’m perfectly fine watching these rounds at home. I’m happy being able to sell my tickets for $100+ over face, not a problem at all. Now iiiiiiifffffff they were to make it to the SC, those babies aren’t getting sold, they’re getting used.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:47 PM
haha fine. I guess I’m the ass here. Wouldn’t be the first time. Just wondering why the random placement for the teams.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:48 PM
Just wondering why the random placement for the teams.
I think he’s just trying to Rashard Mendenhall shit. You know. Starting a conversation
May 4th, 2011 at 6:49 PM
TBL is guessing at the records, and the picks (Superbowl Champ picks last)….wake the fuck up!
May 4th, 2011 at 6:50 PM
Landry Jones a top 3 pick? That’s…interesting.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:51 PM
Whoa…easy big fella. I like Crick and all, but I would recommend never putting him and Peppers in the same sentence again.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:52 PM
Might be Duckworth, but Only In Cleveland this happens.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:53 PM
I just want to know TBL’s reasoning for the Jets winning the SB. They still have Fraudchez at QB, have tons of free agents and don’t create pressure on the QB. That is exactly the opposite of Green Bay.
/I’m putting $100-200 on a SB winner this year…took the Packers at 6-1 at the Bellagio with $20.
//also will put the over on Lions wins
May 4th, 2011 at 6:53 PM
Does TBL know how old Wheeden is? I suspect he doesn’t.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:54 PM
So:
AFC:
Jets, Pats, Ravens, Colts, Chargers, Texans
NFC:
Packers, Saints, Falcons, Rams, Eagles, Lions
okay, I guess it’s not bad.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:56 PM
I really hope Andrew Luck is as good in 2011 as he was in 2010 and then stays for his senior year. That would just be hilarious.
May 4th, 2011 at 6:57 PM
and back into the spam filter I go
May 4th, 2011 at 7:04 PM
He’s a fan. What do you expect? Who is your Superbowl favorite? Any 2012 mock draft slotting is pure speculation. I love the Lions. Love em. Think they are on the rise. They could finish anywhere from 5-11 to 10-6. Who knows. The Jets are a 9-7 to 12-4 team.
May 4th, 2011 at 7:07 PM
Clown-That was a great link you put up earlier. It’s sad how many backwards people live in this country, and sadder how many belong to the same political party I usually vote with.
May 4th, 2011 at 7:07 PM
A)
Oh just have fun with it.B) He is a Jet’s fan.
Not sure why this is a big deal, its not like they’ve be 6-10 the last 2 years.
/love that the SI mock has the Jets taking a QB
May 4th, 2011 at 7:12 PM
70 tackles and 9.5 sacks as a DT. What in the hell was this guy expecting?
May 4th, 2011 at 7:14 PM
I hope that headline is wrong. I was planning on writing something tomorrow about the NFL
May 4th, 2011 at 7:16 PM
The same guy has STL taking a JUCO DT who has yet to play D-1 football. I know NFL guys are desperate for columns, but seriously, there isn’t anything else to write about?
May 4th, 2011 at 7:17 PM
I would take Matt Barkley several rounds before Landry Jones. Are people really talking about Jones as a first rounder?
May 4th, 2011 at 7:18 PM
Two words: Christian Ponder
May 4th, 2011 at 7:18 PM
I know TBL is a fan, just questioning how he thinks the Jets can get to the Superbowl with as many issues as they have to issue this upcoming offseason.
May 4th, 2011 at 7:22 PM
He can thank Bradford.
May 4th, 2011 at 7:23 PM
I laughed. Detroit in the playoffs? I laughed at that too.
May 4th, 2011 at 7:24 PM
This post was a horrible idea.
May 4th, 2011 at 7:44 PM
Why do people feel the need to do this? Is this a surprise to you? He’s done this before and will do it again. I’d wager he takes a stab at the NBA draft a few days after it takes place too.
This happens every year all over the internet and everyone of them generates comments. How often do posts after 4pm PST get more than a handful of comments excluding TBLAD? Fucking complainers on this site. You are aware of free will correct? You do not have to read these.
The humor of TBL picking the Jets to win the SB and the SI link having the Jets taking a QB was more than enough unintentional comedy to justify this post.
May 4th, 2011 at 7:51 PM
Commenters complaining about the posts >>>>> Commenters complaining about the commenters complaining about the posts.
And I didn’t say it was a horrible post. I said it was a horrible idea.
May 4th, 2011 at 8:00 PM
Lisk is back! How was the flight?
Jones may be a bit high. but his #’s are sick, he’ll do well again with good WRs, and Bradford had a nice rookie year.
6-4, 215, big arm …
May 4th, 2011 at 8:01 PM
also: Vladdy, lifetime pass in the commenter section.
May 4th, 2011 at 8:07 PM
Ambitious
May 4th, 2011 at 8:09 PM
Hilarious
May 4th, 2011 at 8:10 PM
great idea.
May 4th, 2011 at 8:11 PM
Duchess, do I know you? because i once knew a duchess …
May 4th, 2011 at 8:16 PM
I think you could say this about most Texas Tech and Hawaii QBs too. Sam Bradford has been the exception, not the rule.
May 4th, 2011 at 8:19 PM
My mother named me.
May 4th, 2011 at 8:23 PM
fair point. fodder for discussion the next 11 months (i assume he’s coming out; Sooners are stacked to win it all this year)
May 4th, 2011 at 9:23 PM
id be shocked if boom herron even gets drafted.
May 4th, 2011 at 9:27 PM
also…i want chase minnifield. frank’s son gotta be good.
May 4th, 2011 at 9:28 PM
don’t sleep on greg little.
May 4th, 2011 at 9:31 PM
with solder and jimmy smith and darrell scott, how the hell weren’t they any good?
/the answer is the hawkins clan and nepotist quarterbacks
May 5th, 2011 at 7:37 AM
Glad to see you finally admit the obvious that Vontanze is a hell of a lot better LB than Te’o
May 5th, 2011 at 10:17 AM
Michael Floyd will be a first rounder.
