Jrue Holiday, Emerging Star?
The 76ers might get swept by the Heat today, but the positive takeaway from the series has been the play of 2nd year point guard Jrue Holiday. He’s averaging 17 points, five assists, and is shooting 60 percent on 3-pointers heading into game four. Holiday doesn’t turn 21 until June, and he’s dominating Mike Bibby (and whoever has attempted to guard him).
The 17th pick in the 2009 draft – after not starting or putting up good numbers at UCLA playing behind Darren Collison – Holiday’s explosive series has shown the awesome point guard depth of 09 draft.
Curry and Jennings have been terrific; Lawson has been very good; Douglas and Beaubois have been quality reserves; Rubio hasn’t even played yet, and the jury’s still out on Flynn, Teague and Maynor.
Here’s the order of how they went in first-round of 09 (Douglas was drafted as a SG but has played PG with the Knicks):
Rubio, Flynn, Curry, Jennings, Holiday, Lawson, Teague, Maynor, Collison, Beaubois, Douglas
This is how they might be re-drafted this summer:
Curry, Holiday, Jennings, Lawson, Rubio, Collison, Beaubois, Douglas, Flynn, Maynor, Teague

So we’re just waiting for Miami to inevitably turn on the heat (pun intended) at some point, right?

Evan Turner looking good. Pretty turnaround jumper against LeBron and got into it with James Jones. Love to see him looking confident.

This AI has just as bad a shot selection as the old AI, but with half the game.

Thrilled the Pistons passed on Holiday and Lawson for a soft and shitty SF.

I told all my Sixer fans friends he’s literally the only member of the organization I’d keep, if it was possible to get rid of everybody. Guy’s gonna be sick, plus he plays very nice D.

really, buck…no iggy? and what about coach collins?
April 24th, 2011 at 2:05 PM
ET smoked LeBron off the dribble. There’s no reason Turner doesn’t play the majority of second half minutes.

Damn it makes me sick how good the Heat look at times. If they play like that consistently, no reason they can’t win the title. Ugh.

For the money Iggy is getting paid, it’d be smart to move him if they could get something back for him.
April 24th, 2011 at 2:14 PM
and i thought et hadn;t gotten enough of a chance to show off yet, but has looked good in flashes

Iggy is massively overpaid, it’s absurd. Ownership is garbage, Collins is OK but that’s really it. Other than Holliday, I could stand to get rid of everybody

thanks jerz and bb

False. The jury is out on Flynn and the verdict is that he’s terrible.

fuck Evan Turner.

almost a perfect comment.

I’d put Maynor after Collison on your re-draft list. He doesn’t really have much upside, but he’s a very good back-up and could be a serviceable starter.

haha. Although Flynn has battled injuries throughout his short career. But yeah, he has not been good. You always sense he would much rather score the ball than distribute.

He’s been shooting a lot better from 3 and isn’t terrible when it comes to keeping control of the ball. He can keep being a consistent shooter, be a great off the bench pg. I like him.

Fun game in Philly.
April 24th, 2011 at 3:40 PM
Why is LeBron so bad at that last shot thing?
April 24th, 2011 at 4:47 PM
UCLA has got some really nice players in the league right now.

Iggy is overpaid, but he does a lot of things pretty well. It’s not like he’s useless. Sure, I feel like punching myself in the nuts everytime he squares up for a jump shot, but that’s irrelevant.
This Sixer team is a lot more salvageable than you make it out to be. Thad Young could start for quite a few teams and could start for the Sixers, had they not sunk dollars into Elton Brand. And good for Doug Collins for getting anything out of the Elton Brand investment. Evan Turner has only gotten better as the season has worn on.
I like this Sixer team. And, for what it’s worth, now that I’ve seen this Heat team up close for 4 straight games, the Bulls will decimate them and easily at that.

drop jennings. he’s getting worse. a smallish facilitator who’s decided to be a scorer, and his D is atrocious. then he’ll pop a 30pt game just to remind everyone he’s still alive.

oh and btw,,,,one day jrue will be a great defensive player.
