Who is Responsible for the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl’s Scheduling?
AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl: It has been scheduled for Dec. 26, 2011 at 4 pm. Christmas is on a Sunday this year, and the bowl game will be played on Monday, a holiday. A columnists asks: “how many families in Provo, Utah, or Charlottesville, Va., are going to load up the car, pump it full of $4 a gallon gas and then drive all day Christmas Day to get here? Oh that’s right, many could fly here — which would likely take a loan or hitting the Lotto considering the cost of flying in and out of Shreveport Regional Airport.” There’s always the option of spending Christmas in a real city like Dallas or New Orleans, then driving 200+ miles to the game … but that wouldn’t give Shreveport the tourist bump it is looking for. And if that happens, who will the “student-athletes” be the “toast of the town” for all week in Shreveport? [Shreveport Times]

But Shreveport has casinos!!!
/Been to the Independence Bowl
//Still can see Brad Smith rolling up the yardage
///Hope to never go back
////Even though the beers were $4/24 oz drafts, cheapest I’ve seen at a sporting event in many, many moons

Maybe if the NFL season gets canceled it can be moved to prime time, bring some eyes to the proceedings

I’d be up for an excuse to get out of Provo, but that’s just me.

Last year the game was played on December 27th at 4 pm and they had nearly 40,000 there, so there’s answer…I understand not investigating this, was quite the hassle to unearth the boxscore

Miz beat me to it.

This is why the first man decided to show up to the stadium three hours early and tailgate

Now just imagine if they had to that three or four times in a month!

I don’t want to live in a world where I give a shit about the attendance at the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl. Thankfully, I don’t care.

people are willing to spend the money to travel for a playoff. Not for a meaningless exhibition. Simple science.

Boxing day?

13 comments in and no one mentions how a playoff would eliminate this problem? Is TBL ok?

I like your confidence. Too bad it will probably be near 5 bucks at that point.

Speaking of, has anyone heard from Jersey?

I don’t get it, I honestly don’t. Don’t most families with any ability to take off the entire week between Christmas and New Years? Isn’t that the same socio-economic class that might make the trip in the first place?
And casinos. And I’m sure facilities, like hotels and so forth. And it’s elsewhere than where you live.
Although I’m not wishing the drive from Dallas to Shreveport on anyone. When I was a drunken loser in my 20′s I did that drive a couple of times to play $5 dollar a hand blackjack. Tough ride home with the early morning sun in your eyes and no coffee money.

if you’re driving from New Orleans, there’s a nice catfish museum in Natchitoches you can take the kids to.

I don’t think so. I expected him to ride in on a horse wearing a coat covered with fleur di lis and carrying the Maurice Podoloff Trophy and ready to hand it to CP3 and honor his greatness.
