Ballin’: Jameer Nelson is Confident the Magic Are Going to Beat the Hawks in the First Round
Chicago 102, Orlando 99: Please read nothing into this result, as Dwight Howard didn’t play (suspension) and both teams were already locked into their playoff positions. MVP Derrick Rose shot 13-of-17 and was perfect from the foul line, tallying 39 points. Not sure how they’ll try to stop him in the 2nd round. And yes, Rose is my MVP, slightly over Dwight Howard. Jameer Nelson got this halfcourt shot off in time; after the jump, see the one at the end of regulation that he didn’t get off in a time. Nelson clearly is confident about beating the Hawks in the first round.
Sacramento 104, Golden State 103: Marcus Thornton scored 11 points in the 4th quarter as the Kings beat the Warriors to surge into a tie with New Jersey (24-56) for the 4th worst record in the league. It’s a win that could wind up costing the Kings a few ping-pong balls. The injury-ravaged Nets, who will be without Deron Williams for the final two games, lost to the Raptors.
LA Lakers 106, Oklahoma City 120: On the final Sunday of the regular season, the two finalists from last year both collapsed in the fourth quarter. LA’s came at home, as it gave up a 17-2 run to the Thunder. That’s five losses in a row for the Lakers, and as you’re probably aware, they have never won a title in a season when they’ve lost that many in a row. It sounds damn near impossibly, since LA was just creeping up on the top seed last week … but suddenly, the Lakers are tied with Dallas for 2nd and could feasibly slip all the way to 4th in the West (and play Denver in the first round!).
Miami 100, Boston 77: Find me a Celtics’ fan who isn’t worried about the postseason. Boston’s backing in, having slipped from the No. 1 seed back in January to the No. 3 seed now. Oh, and Jermaine O’Neal is dirty and Boston’s bench (4-for-16 shooting Sunday) will be a situation to monitor.
New York 110, Indiana 109: Amare sat out, but Billups played 33 minutes and ‘Melo logged 36 (he scored 34 points on 28 shots, including the game-winning jumper and game-winning block). If the Boston-New York series goes seven, the Knicks will run out of gas. The over/under for this game, in case you care, was 220.

I was surprised to see yesterday that the Hawks went 3-1 against them this season, they have my support in the first round
Also, what the fuck Knicks?
April 11th, 2011 at 10:45 AM
Lakers would be in serious trouble if the fall to the #4 seed. They own the tiebreaker over OKC though, right?
April 11th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
Ehh…I remember last year when they used to say none of PJ’s team had ever lost so many games down the stretch, etc.
Playoffs are a whole different ball game. Things can change even in the middle of a series that catapults a team (i.e – Lakers starting Game 5 of the Thunder series last year).
That being said, WHAT THE FUCK Boston?
April 11th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
Lakers are about to work themselves out of an easy first-round match against the Hornets and right into the thresher known as the Thunder.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
I really don’t know what to make of Boston. Their Eastern competition has been making them look like bitches. I was convinced just a week ago that they were the team to beat on the league. Now, I’m not so sure they win 4 games after the season is over. Just weird. I am happy that their faux, fugazy tough guy act is finally being put to bed.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:48 AM
As the season has progressed Celtics have gotten worse (both by trade and age) while Heat have steadily improved. Looking forward to Heat/Bulls 3 months from now.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:48 AM
Over both Thunder and Dallas, yes.
I don’t see them losing to the Kings or a resting Spurs team though. Its sad that they could have wrapped this all up about 3 games ago but instead have to expend their energy with 2 games left.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
Sit Derrick down. 15 mins in the next two games. Tops.
Please and thank you, Thibs.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:50 AM
The Hawks are one of the teams that epitomize the NBA from 5-7 years ago. Ton of overpaid player (well, one for sure) on a team that doesn’t try hard. If they played up to their best ability every night, they’d be much better. But show me a team in the NBA that puts out less effort than the Hawks. They lost by 30 AT HOME TWICE this season and just lost to the Wizards by 30 last weekend.

The tough guy thing was because they were actually tough. They’d knock teams down and body them up. And believe it or not, Perkins had a lot to do with that attitude. It started with KG, but Perkins embraced the role and played his part, as did Rondo, etc.
I think its hilarious that Ainge was banking on fucking SHAQ coming through at 39 years of age to bolster thier front line. He clearly has not learned that Shaq has been clinically dead as a ball player since about 2007.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:52 AM
I can’t decide who has the worse contract, Joe Johnson or Gilbert Arenas.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:52 AM
The Hawks are stupid because they’ve literally had a mediocre squad for 4 years and running now and have barely made any changes.
JOE JOHNSON IS NOT A FRANCHISE PLAYER.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
Who owns the tiebreaker between the Bulls and Spurs? Go balls out Tuesday and if San Antonio wins later that night to clinch #1 then take the foot off the gas for the season finale but home court is still there for the taking
April 11th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
Nothing to see here.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
But as Jersey has often pointed out, Boston played without Perkins for much of the early season and was perfectly fine which is probably why Ainge thought they’d be okay trading him away.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
JOE JOHNSON IS NOT A FRANCHISE PLAYER.
No big deal, they just owe him $26 MILLION 5 years down the road. That shouldn’t cripple their franchise at all, with all the revenue/ticket sales they bring in from their most-passionate fan base.
/wanking motion
April 11th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
Fuck that, two longest win streaks going up agaisnt each other tomorrow. Plus, it’s the Mecca late in the season. Don’t be pussies, Bulls, be like the NHL and lets fucking battle. You can’t go 0-3 vs such an overrated team, can you?
April 11th, 2011 at 10:56 AM
Does not care.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:57 AM
It has more to do with “collective swagger” than anything else. Its not always the product put out on the floor – these guys spend a lot of time together away from the court, and Perkins had a huge role on that team’s swagger. I do think though that Boston turns it up once the playoffs begin.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:57 AM
I don’t disagree, but I’m also not sure they could have realistically gone about things in much of a different way, contract/free agency wise. They certainly could have drafted better, though.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:57 AM
Not even much of the early season. He played 7 games TOTAL this season before he was traded. Which perplexes me even more. In other news, OKC has GOT to be the favorite to win this whole thing right?
April 11th, 2011 at 10:58 AM
You mean the time of the year when the NBA is on autopilot with no physical play? KG talks tough but Perkins was the enforcer. I could see the Knicks giving them real problems in the first round.
April 11th, 2011 at 10:58 AM
Goddamn, I miss Perk. Fuck you, Ainge.
That said, Celtics ended last year with 3 wins in their last 10 games, and came within 2 possessions of winning a title. But without Shaq playing consistently, that’s not going to happen this year I fear.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
This isn’t hockey where seeds and playing at home don’t matter…if they can steal this away from the Spurs they have to try until it’s no longer a possibility
April 11th, 2011 at 11:01 AM
This. x100. Though I hated the trade more for the acquisition of Jeff Green (who I refuse to give a fair chance to be more than a .420 shooting forward with 4 rpg) than the loss of Perk.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:01 AM
I agree. Though I think it all comes down to Rondo.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:02 AM
I say let the knicks beat us so DRose can hear the “3-0 we swept ‘em! we are so good and better than the bulls!” from knicks fans and then demolish them if they get to the second round..
April 11th, 2011 at 11:02 AM
Isn’t it time for TBL’s “Leave Cam Newton Alone” post? It’s been a few days…
April 11th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
Yeah, what Butters said. You care about the Larry O’Brien trophy, don’t you? Then you should try to sew up the number 1 overall record to make it easier for you come Finals time. I mean, Chicago can beat a team that’s probably not going to make it out of the 1st round anyway and was lucky to beat the Bulls the first two times, right?
April 11th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
Didn’t you cry for days about Lebron sitting out a meaningless game against last year’s shitty Bulls?
Now you deny fans in the last two games of the D-Rose Experience.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
Still can’t believe they passed up both Paul and D-Will for Marvin Williams.
the West? Or the title?
As much as I hate to admit it, I think the title is going through the East this year unless the Lakers turn it up another notch. I don’t have much faith in the Spurs and the Thunder don’t look like a title team to me just yet.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:06 AM
solid memory
April 11th, 2011 at 11:06 AM
Again, Bulls fans knowing jack shit about basketball. Not shocked.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:06 AM
/ fixed
April 11th, 2011 at 11:07 AM
POW. RIGHT IN THE KISSER!!!
April 11th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
Somewhat forgivable because a lot of people had Williams as the #1 player overall. The Shelden Williams pick is the one that blows my mind.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:09 AM

I dont know what to say about the Lakers right now. Maybe they blew their load during thier 15 – 1 streak after the break, In the losses to Utah and Golden State they looked tired. Hopefully they can get it back going once the playoffs start. With them holding the tiebreakers over OKC and Dallas I still think they can secure the #2 spot in the West.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:10 AM
Reminds me of Ken Griffey Jr’s giganticism escapade from that baseball episode of the Simpsons.
/ Mattingly I thought I told you to TRIMM those sideburns! You’re off the team! For good!
April 11th, 2011 at 11:12 AM
Uh….no.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:13 AM
Has anyone on that team other than Perkins ever won a playoff series? The NBA playoffs are a grind, experience matters. Too young.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:13 AM
C-C-C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!
April 11th, 2011 at 11:14 AM
The Shelden Williams pick is the one that blows my mind.
The Landlord (snicker) was not one of Billy Knights greatest moments.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
Hmmmm….
April 11th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
I think Collision was on that Sonics team that reached the second round, but other than that its all youngins. Speed and athleticism can only get you so far in the playoffs.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:16 AM
The Shelden Williams pick is unforgivable. They’ve also had bad luck with both Acie Law and Jeff Teague, who’ve both been massive busts. In the case of Teague, I saw that coming. In the case of Law, I did not; I thought he was going to be very good.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
If this means Carlos Boozer is the veteran guidance for the Bulls they might be fucked (he was so freaking bad yesterday, couldn’t believe Thibs didn’t put him on the bench)…Deng I guess made it to the second round that one year after they swept the Heat
April 11th, 2011 at 11:18 AM
I really, really thought Acie Law was going to be legit in the league. Dude was fucking cold blooded killer at A&M.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:18 AM
3rd round whatever…
April 11th, 2011 at 11:19 AM
Agreed, except that instead of 9 games in 15 days like the FIBA worlds (Durant MVP), the playoffs are 9 games in two months.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:20 AM
Thibs has won a ring and been to Game 7 of the NBA finals. If your main leader is an NBA champion, that is all you need.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:22 AM
An don’t forget, Westbrook was on that squad too.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
Oh really, because I know a lot of NBA head coaches that weren’t champions until they, you know, won one.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:24 AM
Does. Not. Care.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
If the Boston-New York series goes seven, the Knicks will run out of gas
They don’t play d, they will be fresh and ready to take it to the next level.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
Stirring rebuttal…dammit, stay out of Bulls business
April 11th, 2011 at 11:26 AM
Mwuhahahahahaha.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
Because I paid and went to the game.
Knicks fans don’t deserve nice things anyways.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:37 AM
Except that the grind I referred to was more mental than physical. Youngsters like KD probably are better suited to 9 games in 15 days, while 2 games a week greatly benefits Spurs/Lakers/Celtics.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
If the Thunder make a run, can we rehash all the “Kevin Durant is Sting” talk? I missed that.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:43 AM
Oh yes. Shit. Completely forgot this.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
Explain.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
Unfortinately, I think the Lakers are in for quite a surprise this year in the playoffs…
April 11th, 2011 at 11:54 AM
Knicks winning ways at the end of the season has put them in a tougher road to the ECF having to go against Boston and Orlando. Miami and Chicago would have taken less than 7 games each.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:55 AM
Love how tough guy KG made himself invisible when the “scuffle” got heated….epic pussy
April 11th, 2011 at 11:55 AM
Karma, after LeBron made his infamous preseason debut with Bosh and DWade, everybody here said it reminded them of the nWo. Somebody found a YouTube video with the nWo theme on it and layered it over the Heat introduction video. We blasted LeBron and Co., applauded Durant for making his contract extension announcement in a very simple and quiet fashion and said he was the good guy. We then spent the next several hours trying to find appropriate wrestling comparisons for other stars in the NBA.
It was good times.
April 11th, 2011 at 11:56 AM
Shhhh. I don’t want to face this reality yet.
April 11th, 2011 at 12:01 PM
You still seem to lack an understanding of how the playoff brackets work, this whole comment makes no sense (unless it’s an inspired bit of trolling, can’t really get a read on you these days with the Knicks homerism)
April 11th, 2011 at 12:04 PM
Unfortinately, I think the Lakers are in for quite a surprise this year in the playoffs…
Bench isn’t playing as well as they were at the beginning of the year, Pau still disappears during games defense has looked spotty the last 2 weeks and OKC, and Denver are looking really good.
April 11th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
You’re right. Boston in 5, Miami in 6, and Knicks lose to Orlando in 7.
April 11th, 2011 at 12:11 PM
hope the patented Laker “On-Off” switch is working, but I’m not really buying it this year….
April 11th, 2011 at 12:23 PM
they’ll win this one on guts and guile more than talent. They are worn out. That’s how it was for all of the teams that three peated, other than the Celtics of the 60′s.
April 11th, 2011 at 1:31 PM
Bulls only beat Magic by 3 without Dwight? Yeah, Dwight is clearly more valuable to his team than Rose.
April 11th, 2011 at 2:10 PM
I believe Nazr Mohammed has won a playoff series, and maybe won a ring. I agree it’s silly to say the Thunder are the favorites to win the title, but they are at least legit contenders post-Perkins trade.
