After the NBA, Vince Carter May Have a Career in Bowling
Vince Carter: The high-flying dunker once known as “Half-Man, Half-Amazing” is 34-years-old and his NBA days are numbered. He’s playing 28 minutes a night and scoring 14 points per game, but at $17 million, that’s not exactly a great deal for the Suns. Phoenix obviously won’t pick up his $18 million salary for next season, so he’ll probably have to settle for a small contract from a contender who wants a veteran presence. If that doesn’t work out, there’s always bowling. He claims to have a 172 average. “I’m not one for the leisure bowling, like the Lucky Strike bowling to go have drinks and fun. I go to bowl. I can go by myself … I can go there and bowl [for hours] by myself … That’s something I’d probably like to try to do once I’m done playing.” [Republic]

Ho-ly shit, is the WNBA draft really live right now, or is this tape delay?

Who cares?

WNBA Draft > Puff piece about Vinsanity having delusions of being a pro bowler…

I find it hilarious that their draft is on a Monday afternoon.

So is Vince’s early 00s dunk contest triumphs, his defining moment? Or is it his going to graduation before the Raptors’ Game 7 loss?

Contenders will welcome his leadership and winning attitude.
Also, a 172 average might get you in the top 10 at your local rec league.

In a positive light, the dunk contest. In a negative light, flat out quitting on the Raptors.

this is actually kinda cool.
i always wondered if the really good athlete’s who golf could make the tour. smoltz was always good and jeff francouer is supposedly awesome.

am I too late to make am intimidated-by-the-ball-return-and-threw-all-remaining-balls-from-the-arcade-area joke?

Tony Romo’s got game too, I’ve heard. Made it pretty far in the US Open qualifiers a few years ago if I remember correctly.

But does he roll on Shabbos?

one of these days the tour will get an athlete…one of these days

205 average here. 172 sucks in today’s world of bowling.
/realizes I just bragged about bowling.
//I love any sport where you can smoke and drink while getting better.

Any left handers here? if you have never bowled i am gonna tell you you have a a natural bad ass hook…trust me i know *holds up left hand like al bundy right before he bowls*

he’s aight. i think he gets overrated when talking about athlete golfers tho…i bet faulk or sterling sharpe could get him by a few holes.
jerry rice tried out for the nationwide tour and failed miserably.

Can’t see why not. The one trait all top athletes share is a superhuman belief in their abilities. The idea that they can’t do something is anathema to them.
But to leave millions on the table as part of a title team to go be a PGA tourer? That’s what keeps them away.

depends on how you define pretty far. Failed to qualify in his section (with much fanfare) while wearing a butthurt hat (ftmfw) is pretty far, I guess. He made sportscenter two or three years in a row while failing to qualify.
April 11th, 2011 at 4:09 PM
probably…but then again, the top 150 on the tour make RIDICULOUS money that they can make well into their 40′s, hell, even 50′s with the champions tour.
April 11th, 2011 at 4:10 PM

because it’s a completely different set of skills. You don’t think golfers could be tennis players, or tennis players could be bicycle racers, right?

I don’t know a lot about golf/golf preparation, but I don’t think you get better by trying “harder.” I think that’s how you get worse.

of any sport, i think basketball players would adjust the best to golf even moreso than baseball players. you can kinda see that with former basketball players dustin johnson, gary woodland and jeff quinney on tour.

Fair enough… that was just me being a sheep to the media hype without looking into it.

getting past local us open qualifying alone is pretty good. i hope one day i can get there, at least.

He takes his bowling more seriously then basketball. This is exactly what championship caliber teams are looking for off the bench.
