Anaheim Offers $75 Million For Sacramento Kings to Relocate
Anaheim really wants the Sacramento Kings. The California city will offer the team $75 million to move south, $25 million to renovate the Honda Center and $50 million to cover moving costs. The Kings would have to file with the NBA by April 18.
The Kings have trademarked various Anaheim names, including the Anaheim Royals. The city also does not want to be hoodwinked again. Part of the deal would stipulate that Anaheim could be the only geographical reference. So, no Los Angeles Royals of Anaheim.
Anaheim thinks the team will be a “financial boon,” referencing a report the Sonics contributed $188 million annually to Seattle. That number sounds great, until you realize it is entirely displaced spending. People spend money on sports teams they would have spent elsewhere.
Phil Jackson thinks the idea is “ridiculous.”
Worth noting: The Kings had one of the better fan bases in the NBA when the team was decent.

Anaheim has an indoor arena that they need to fill dates for when the Ducks aren’t playing. Smart move by the city.
Coach Forrest Gump should stick to what he knows best: Winning championships with ready made, HOF talent and banging the owner’s daughter.

Adds a couple more “home” games for the Lakers. I’m ok with it.

If I agree to move to Anaheim, then how much would the city give me to renovate a house and cover my moving costs? The morons known as Anaheim elected officials should be recalled now.
Didn’t Orange County declare bankruptcy a few years ago?

I’m not sure about the bankruptcy, but the housing crisis hit them hard with all the McMansions they have in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach

The smartass answer is how much taxes will you provide. However, I agree with you. KC hoodwinked its voters to refurbish Camarohead and Kauffman stadium. I moved out of town shortly after that. I was so amazed how stupid voters are when it comes to piss poor run sports teams.
Also, it costs $50 million to move a team?

I think the problem, from Anaheim’s perspective, is Orange County residents are going to LA to spend it on the Lakers/Clippers when that money could stay in OC.

From what Simmons has said recently it seems that the Maloofs are hurting for cash right now. They overleveraged themselves right before ’08 expanding the Palms and the value of the Palms has gone way down as Vegas has suffered the last few years.
If Anaheim is offering them cash they are going to take it.

indeed they did. Those early 00′s play-off battles against the lakers was the shiznit.
