Ballin’: JaVale McGee and Blake Griffin Dunked, The Nuggets Won and *gasp* The Knicks Lost
Clippers 127, Wizards 119, 2OT: Where to begin? Blake Griffin’s first career triple-double of 33 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists? The dunk contest that took place during the game between Griffin and JaVale McGee? John Wall’s career-high 32 points? The two ridiculous shots that Jordan Crawford made which didn’t even make the highlights? (I definitely won’t start there.)
I guess I’ll just tell you Eric Gordon had 32 and hit some big shots for the Clippers. Then I’ll let you watch the game highlights and go on with my day.
Magic 111, Knicks 99: Dwight Howard had another insanely efficient game, hitting 11-15 from the field and 11-13 from the line for 33 points. If Howards is going to keep scoring that efficiently (especially hitting those freebies) the Magic are going to be really tough to beat. Of course, he was playing the Knicks last night. Who was guarding him? STAT and Ronny Turiaf? You don’t guard the most dominant center in the league with a backup power forward if you want to slow him down. While its nice to talk about how well the Magic played, let’s focus on how much the Knicks suck. 13 points and 7 rebounds in 40 minutes for Amar’e Stoudemire and New York fell below .500, prompting Mike D’Antoni to remark after the game, “Hopefully, we finish over .500.” They’ve lost 4 straight and 7 of 8!
Nuggets 115, Spurs 112: Meanwhile… on the other side of the tracks… Denver is now 11-4 since trading Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups acquiring Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari and Ray Felton. They’re undefeated at home and last night they beat a very good San Antonio squad. Sure, DeJuan Blair had a nice put-back dunk, but it was Denver who was kissing a baby at the end of the game.
Heat 100, Pistons 94: Miami outscored Detroit 25-13 in the 4th quarter, but all that matters is that Chris Bosh got dunked on so hard that it showed up on YouTube.
Grizzlies 90, Celtics 87: Memphis had 8 guys score between 8 and 13 points. Share and share alike. For Boston, Rajon Rondo had a ridiculous line of 11 assists, 11 rebounds, 7 steals and 6 points on 2-12 shooting. What can you say? Dude is a great finisher.

all that matters is that Chris Bosh got dunked on so hard that it showed up on YouTube.
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMM!!!!!
And here I thought Chris Bosh was a PF. How many posters is he on this season?
let’s focus on how much the Knicks suck.
Was anyone surprised? All the talk leading to the trade said that the Knicks would have to gut their team to find enough pieces to make Denver happy (which happened) and that the games of Melo and Amar’e were better at the offensive end of the court. Both of these things have proven true.
In the words of Denzel Washington, “THIS SHIT IS CHESS! IT AIN’T CHECKERS!”
March 24th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
Yeah that was pretty obscene
March 24th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
No love for the Sixers coming back from 12 down in the fourth and moving closer to the 5th seed? Bullshit.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:26 AM
I’d have a hard time arguing against Dwight winning the MVP
Props to the Grizz for dropping the Celtics a full game back of the Bulls…if they could now do me another solid and lose in Chicago tomorrow I’d be eternally grateful
March 24th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
I’d have a hard time arguing against Dwight winning the MVP
So-in your eyes-MVP isn’t the best player in the league? I’m not saying that’s the wrong interpretation, I’m just of the line of thinking that the MVP should be the player you’d pick first if you were drafting a “super-team.” Wouldn’t that be LeBron? It seems like you think MVP is the most valuable player to his team, not the league. Which isn’t wrong. I just think the award is terribly named.

I’m starting to think that there is a very good possibility that the 76ers could catch Hawks for 5 spot; there is also a realistic, albeit doubtful, possibility that the Pacers may wind up catching Knicks for 7 spot.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
Knicks have struggled since Billups has returned from injury.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:33 AM

That’s why I prefer the “Player of the Year” moniker used in soccer. It means specifically what it says: this is the best player of THIS year. That’s it.
BTW, why is no one saying Duncan should be MVP? Best team. Best record. And his team clearly needs him at his best.

There’s a bigger problem here. The team is not holding their shit together during these games. This is now back to back comback losses to Boston and Orlando in one week. At home. The talent is there, but there are some mental issues going on right now. (I’m basically callign them a bunch of bitches)
What? 11 games left? how many are they back? 4? I definitely wouldn’t rule it out.
/throws Amare bobblehead across cube

The Hawks are a dumpster fire. You get what you pay for, I guess. Wait, what? They gave Joe Johnson 120 million? Whoops.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:36 AM
Is LeBron even the best player this season with the way Dwight’s dominating? If the award was just meant for the best player Jordan would have closer to 10 than the 5 he did win…I think the term “valuable” instead of “outstanding” means other factors should be considered and the Magic turning over what felt like half their roster during the year yet still performing well is a testament to how well he’s played
Playing 30 minutes a game would help his case more
March 24th, 2011 at 10:36 AM
I don’t think he’s the problem.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
Never left. But I’ll be rooting for the Rangers this year. I pretty much have to. I hate not having a natural hockey team to root for.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
Sixers gonna struggle to get the 5 seed considering then have road games at Chicago, Miami and Boston, and games against the Magic, Kings and Rockets left as well.

He’s not. Not at all. I just needed something precious to destroy.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:38 AM
Dwight is the award winner no matter what you want to name the award. Best defensive player in the league, dominating on the offensive end, while being the only low post presensce for his team on both ends of the floor.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:39 AM
With Perkins gone, there is no one in the East that can go one on one with him…maybe Noah, but that’s more of a stopgap than anything.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:39 AM
If the award was just meant for the best player Jordan would have closer to 10 than the 5 he did win
Agree with you there. Malone winning over Jordan that one year was especially outrageous.

Rangers chances are at 96.5% as of this morning. They’ll get in as either the 7th or 8th seed in the East and lose in 5 games to either the Caps or Flyers.

March 24th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
what is the Knicks record since Billups returned?
March 24th, 2011 at 10:50 AM
I hope CP3 sees this. They’re gonna call him the worst point guard in the NBA after his first 3-game losing streak when he gets there.
Of course, he’s gonna be the second coming of Earl the Pearl or whomever 5 days later when they beat the Celtics.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:50 AM
Dirk getting handed his on a floor after being ousted in the first round of the playoffs as a one seed didn’t exactly shine it up either.

March 24th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
Yes. He benefited from really weird years from everybody. Except for Kobe going off, no one knew how to properly gauge everyone else. Still scratch my head at him winning those.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
Trade ‘Melo?
March 24th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
MVPs in all sports are horseshit. I don’t know why people even think they matter. If a player is good he’s good, who gives a shit who the best of the best is.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:52 AM
What is it since they traded for Carmelo? You’re pointless to argue with. You’re a bigger homer than Parrish is.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
Naw. That was justified. Matter of fact, in my honest opinion, that should have been his second straight one.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
Barkley is 1993 was a crime scene complete with chalk outlines and dead hookers. There is no way he should have won that award over MJ.
I’ll say again Jordan was first team defense AGAIN that year, and Barkley couldn’t cover a bed. Jordan should have won it every year from 1990 on while in the league.
Waiting for Knicks to go that next level.
Can’t believe people believed Rondo was better then DRose at the begining of the season.
See ya in the Finals!!!1
March 24th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
It’s a better percentage than with Billups. And, while I don’t quite agree with Darrell, Billups went on a terrible, crucial stretch in the 3rd quarter where he just kept bricking threes early in the clock. I’m still putting most of this on D’Antoni.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
He deserved it Jersey. Losing in the first round just stained it.

March 24th, 2011 at 11:06 AM
I’m still putting most of this on D’Antoni.
I would too except that, by default, he has no choice in the matter. Who’s the backup PG for the Knicks?
/looks it up
//who the fuck is Anthony Carter??
March 24th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
This offense is dependent on a PG who can penetrate and dish. Douglas does a better job of that than Billups. If you’re going to run this offense with Billups as the point, then you have to run the offense through Melo, who will draw the double and find the open man as he showed last night.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:10 AM
He’s horrible and I’m shocked he is still in the Association.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:11 AM
I’m still trying to figure out why they just don’t give him the keys and let Chauncey dominate the second team. He is streaky, but I’m almost convinced that if Douglas played more, he’d get more consistent with his game. And he is their best on ball defen…. shit… just answered my own question.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:11 AM
Has Melo signed an extension yet?
March 24th, 2011 at 11:14 AM
Rondo might have had good stats last night but he lost the game last night by taking a terrible shot with wideopen teammates behind him. Fuck him! (i pray he refocuses come playofftime)
March 24th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
I still wouldn;t have given him the first one. I’m jsut trying to remember who I would have. I’m pretty sure that was another good year for Dirk, KG and Shaq. Shit, I need to go look this up.

March 24th, 2011 at 11:18 AM
I didn’t know that first team defense was a requirement for the MVP. Cool, one award is a requirement for another. Whatever, Pippen took on all of the tough perimeter assignments on that team anyway.

March 24th, 2011 at 11:22 AM

Look at Joe Johnson’s contract.
I didn’t know that first team defense was a requirement for the MVP
Didn’t say that, but just showing how much a better player Jordan was then Barkley.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:24 AM
Idk. Who is Bostons backup PG? I could see him going there. Along with Grant Hill.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
He seems like a guy whould either go back to Denver or retire.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
Yeah, I know. But I can dream… and anything is possible when it comes to the Knicks front office.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:28 AM
Jordan was the best player in the world, but Barkley was most definitely on the short list. For that season, Barkley was the most valuable player in the NBA. He put up all world numbers and led the Suns to the best record in the NBA. And as someone said earlier, you are overstating any defensive deficiencies for a guy who at his position was always amongst the best at defensive rebounding, steals, and blocks.

March 24th, 2011 at 11:36 AM
I could absolutely see them taking him back at a discount. He really, really wants to be in Denver. He’d definitely get a better deal elsewhere. Not really sure if he’d take one or not.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:38 AM
Knicks will pick up that option.

Ben FranklinWAR-How old were you in the 90′s? Just asking.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
Chauncey’s time as a Nugget is probably over, yeah, but it wouldn’t shock me at all if the organization offered him some sort of front office position. His permanent value as Chauncey Billups, Local Hero far outweighs his current value as Chauncey Billups, NBA point guard.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
Just asking.
20′s. I didn’t see in the article where Dr. Jack says Barkley didn’t deserve the MVP. What I did see was Dr. Jack recount his experiences as a 76er, which of course preceded that. What I recall is Barkley coming off of the trade, the Dream Team experience where he was the best player, and coming into Phoenix totally motivated and playing at a high MVP level that year.
March 24th, 2011 at 1:48 PM
You have a good memory.
