Geno Auriemma Upset Connecticut Residents Didn’t Show Up To Watch Another UConn Blowout
UConn women’s hoops coach, Geno Auriemma, was upset because only 5,729 fans showed up for the final home game of the season. I know what you’re thinking – 5,729 people at a women’s basketball game sounds like a record. Wrong! Geno Auriemma and his team of female basketball assassins are rockstars who only play in front of sold out arenas.
Hartford Courant, get Geno Auriemma to the Greek!
“I think it’s probably natural. I guess we need to win more. Everybody loves a winner, you know.
Maybe we should offer free parking, more giveaways. We should let some of the fans coach the team, maybe a guest coach every quarter.
We have a spoiled group of fans who assume we are going to win, who assumed we would be in Philadelphia and be at the Final Four.”
Shut up. UConn is 112-1 in the last three years. They have all the most talented players every… single… year. Who wants to go watch a 40-minute layup line every night against completely overmatched teams that don’t have any players good enough to sit on UConn’s bench? I can’t believe fans couldn’t come out in droves for the latest drubbing.

Also, did you know that he coaches the UCONN WOMEN’S team? There’s your answer Geno!
/Because they don’t dunk you see….

Roy Wiliams started losing traction with the KU faithful when he called out the student section for not being full (game was still sold-out) for a Sunday 1:00 pm game against Colorado. Dude, the students were hungover and Colorado sucked. He also made the Wine and Cheese statement and, well, it was easy for some folks to turn against him when he went to KU.

I guess my point was, coaches best not bitch about their fans.
March 23rd, 2011 at 7:00 PM
someone should tell Geno to check which “sport” he coaches

Dammit I miss Jeopardy last night and the dude that I liked lost. Am I a dork for being sad about this. Guy was awesome.

Some dude is pumped to be at the witchita state NIT game. Yelling I’m drunk and throwing the shocker in the air for the camera. Go shockers.

Kind of, yeah. Not a dork for liking Jeopardy of course, but for being sad about that, a little. lol

Why does this always happen? Right around this time of year, Geno says something at a press conference that is just controversial enough that its sure to get articles and blog posts written about womens basketball. It works like a charm. Bravo Geno.
March 23rd, 2011 at 7:05 PM

Why does this always happen? Right around this time of year, Geno says something at a press conference that is just controversial enough that its sure to get articles and blog posts written about womens basketball. It works like a charm. Bravo Geno.
And yet the stands remain half empty.
March 23rd, 2011 at 7:06 PM
I’m just hoping that when I’ve got a girl I’m doing on the regular that there will be some Braves lingerie I can purchase for her because I’m irritated that the Braves weren’t included in that Victoria Secret line.
Also off-topic, but here’s a pretty good video tribute to Charlie Davies, who after nearly dying in a car wreck in October 2009 right before the final World Cup Qualifier, has come back and scored two goals in his vey first first-team match since the injury. He’s on loan at D.C. United from his French club Sochaux.

March 23rd, 2011 at 7:15 PM
Those would be very effective simply for the fact that I’d want to rip (literally rip) them off my girl as soon as I saw them. So I guess ultimately, yes, they are awesome.

Solid win for Liverpool over Sunderland on Sunday, Jersey. This rise in the table has occurred before Andy Carroll really is even settled in with the club. I like how things are panning out.

March 23rd, 2011 at 7:44 PM
Crucial fucking win. Now hopefully Sunderland finds a bit of form versus Man City. I still can’t believe there is still a shot at Europe after how bad this season has gone.

I still can’t believe there is still a shot at Europe after how bad this season has gone.
It’s a long shot to be sure, with how complacent the top 5 seem to be right now, I’m feeling good.
March 23rd, 2011 at 7:50 PM
Only 4 out of 5th and 8 out of 4th, that’s doable. It’s a shame for you that Pool couldn’t have been even a little decent to start the year. Just getting average results would most likely have you guys in or around 4th right now.
March 23rd, 2011 at 7:50 PM
Vida Guerra is a ridiculously strong 6-seed.
March 23rd, 2011 at 7:51 PM

March 23rd, 2011 at 7:52 PM
City and Tottenham still have to come to Anfield so they can have their monkey asses made famous. It just feels like one of them is going to have a massive fuck up down the stretch. Rooting for Tottenham to extend their Champions stay.

Things just got warm here in Florence today. Tomorrow is supposed to be spectacular. Unfortunately, Italian people don’t seem to understand the concept of wearing less clothes when its warm, even women (in town at least). The worst is that black tar shit they poop for a couple days after being born.
Don’t worry. In about a week, you’ll be able to change diapers with your eyes closed. Actually, I enjoyed diapers 1000x more than trying to potty/poop train my kid. With a diaper, you change it and it is done. Potty training is an excercise in patience and cleaning bed sheets/pants/shirts/underwear/socks. You have a diaper genie, right?

they are remaking conan the barbarian. fucking arnold movies should be off limits. if i see a new commando, im going to fucking lose it
A new Conan isn’t a big deal to me now — though Conan the Barbarian is in my Top 10 list. But a new Commando? Oh hell naw! No! NO! You can’t bring that back without injecting snark and 2nd-rate attitude.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:30 PM
So is Vanessa Hudgens. Come on, dude.
Speaking of Conan, he just had on an author, whose name escapes me, who wrote a 3 volume biography on Teddy Roosevelt. I’d be interested in reading those. Teddy was the man.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:31 PM
hello cutie pie. one of us is in deep trouble
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:33 PM
That steel-drum soundtrack was a once in a lifetime event. Can’t be remade.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:33 PM
arnold is out of politics now so i hope he can get in enough shape to make a return to the big screen. though it might look weird because hes starting to wrinkle up

Hey Killian! He is Sub Zero. Now, Plain Zero!
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:37 PM
Stuck on the couch today. Watched a triple header: Usual Suspects, Seven, and Pulp Fiction.
Damn good day.
TBL! I missed the news on being a daddy. Congrats! It doesn’t get any better. Diaper changing only gets worse as food is introduced, so you are nowhere into the bad stuff yet.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:39 PM
That’s pretty fuckin’ awesome.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:39 PM
I’ve been reading this: http://www.amazon.com/Physics-Impossible-Scientific-Exploration-Teleportation/dp/0385520697
Basically this physicist loved sci-fi as a kid and is trying to figure out when (or if) all the cool shit will be possible: teleportation, time travel, psychokinesis (moving things around with your mind), etc. It’s a pretty good read although some of the scientific stuff goes over my head.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:41 PM
I hate it when I’m right. The Heat started the 4th with a 15-0 run.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:42 PM
Hey! i grew up in his hometown on Long Island, went to Theodore Roosevelt Elementary school. His house is now a museum and if you’re ever here its worth a peak. Pretty cool and in a gorgeous area especially in the summer its right on the water. He was the fuckin MAN, by far the most badass president.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:43 PM
bstr0142 – It’s an extremely interesting read. I recommend it highly.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:44 PM
Then again, I also have terrible grammar. So…

March 23rd, 2011 at 9:53 PM
I recommend ice, advil and bourbon. And lots of good TV on. The Masters worked for me last year.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:55 PM
This is why I am on the couch. Stayed sober. Not too bad actually, though.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:57 PM
I second this. Master’s weekend is perfect for this.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:57 PM
I made the mistake of thinking I could walk around more than I should have the second day. That was not fun.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:58 PM
I’ll have to check it out, thanks. I can’t seem to find any books these days that I can get into, but this kind of thing intrigues me. I’d like to read more about North Korea actually, but can’t find anything that catches my interest.
March 23rd, 2011 at 9:59 PM
thanks, guys.
sleeping … well, the kid has to be breastfed every 2.5-3 hrs the first night, so sleep is interrupted. i’ve taken more afternoon naps this week (3) than i have in the last year combined.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:00 PM
I made sure and listen to the doctor’s advice, but I was surprised how easy it was to get it done. Fifteen minutes in and out. Good money for the doctor, that’s for sure!
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:00 PM
i was pretty grossed out. it looked like a hershey bar, kind of melted. i may have used half a dozen wet wipes on that one. usually, 2-3 does the trick
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:01 PM
My kinda woman’s march madness.
jessica biel wins any ass contest, second and third go to upton and her friend in that pic from last month

March 23rd, 2011 at 10:04 PM
Pretty normal. It is a 4 handed process for a while. The first two weeks are tough and sleep happens at random times. It does get better though.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:05 PM
Rondo is officially a concern. His head is not in the game. Down 1 with 25 seconds left, he rushes to shoot an offbalance shot in traffic instead of giving it to Pierce or Allen. Pierce and Doc Rivers looked like they wanted to kill him. Then Big Baby takes a fucking awful 3 and misses badly. Celtics should have beat Memphis but Rondo lost this game for them. If he doesn’t stop this stupid shit, I am all for a crunch time lineup of KG, Pierce, Allen, Baby, and Delonte.
As dynamic as Rondo can be at times, he’s lost his mind.

March 23rd, 2011 at 10:11 PM
You guys are all nuts. Vasectomies and black tar poop. That rat bastard vezina keeps telling me to get a brood. I’M OUTTA HERE!!
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:12 PM
Taking care of babies frightens me.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:13 PM
Mine took a bit longer, because my body seems to need a larger than normal amount or numbing medication. Learned that one the hard way
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:14 PM
Having kids is fun. Especially when they start walking. You can chase them while they squeal while trying to get away. Play kickball, wiffleball, you get to coach their teams.
You have an excuse to watch your favorite cartoons.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:16 PM
Damn that women’s march madness thing is ridiculous. Also I’ll never forget how Spears looked before she became all white-trashy.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:20 PM
Also, when the hell did Mena Suvari get such a nice ass?
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:21 PM
Didn’t she always?
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:21 PM
I never noticed it before today. Good God.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:23 PM
I remember he body being pretty nice in the American Pie movies and American Beauty
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:24 PM
Durant has 29 points on 12 shots (13-15 FT). Ibaka has 14 pts and 12 rebounds (plus 4 blocks). And Westbrook also has 29 pts on 17 shots. His stats are pretty comparable to Rose’s (much more similar than comparing Rose to Magic’s 86-87 season), but obviously he has no shot at MVP. The reasons are understandable, but still sort of dumb.
http://www.dailythunder.com/2011/03/if-rose-is-everyones-mvp-why-isnt-westbrook-in-the-conversation/

March 23rd, 2011 at 10:28 PM
Actually, no I take that back. Rose would not be an undeserving MVP winner if he wins (which it looks like he will). Howard probably deserves it, but Rose is having a very good year as well. Still, Westbrook is having a similar year and at least deserves mention.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:33 PM
I think Rose gets it over Howard because Chicago > Orlando (for the regular season at least)

Hola bitches, everyone having a good night?
Spent some of my bonus money on an iPad 2…just have to wait until early May.
Oh and let’s go Sixers!
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:38 PM
I didn’t mean it. I just wanted to say ‘rat bastard’.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:39 PM
Yeah I agree. The problem with Rose is he doesn’t really play defense while Chicago wins games by having the best D in the NBA. But he is having a great year.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:39 PM
Irish Mafia’s boys clowned the NYK. He’s gonna be real pissed when the Bulls punk the Fagic.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:41 PM
Example #13748 why I’m a lousy better, I almost pulled the trigger on Toronto +7 at Phoenix. Phoenix played a triple overtime game on the road last night. But I passed and Toronto is up.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:44 PM
Orlando Tragic > Orlando Fagic
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:49 PM
Am I the only person who doesn’t think Elizabeth Taylor was that hot? Her face is pretty meh in my opinion.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:52 PM
I thought Liz Taylor was fantastic looking in her younger days. What a body
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:56 PM
Go watch Cleopatra. Absolutely stunning.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:57 PM
after another NYK loss (below .500 now), this post and the comments are worth looking at again
http://thebiglead.com/index.php/2011/02/22/carmelo-anthonys-a-knick-next-step-the-aggressive-pursuit-of-deron-williams-or-chris-paul/
i still think NYK play someone real tough in the 1st rd of the playoffs (best shot would be against Miami, IMO) lose in six.
but if they can’t get a center and fortify the bench this summer … gulp
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:58 PM
I think her importance to anything not AIDS research related is overblown, yes.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:59 PM
TBL – I said it before and I’ll say it again: The biggest need for this time at the time was a backup PG. They now need four things: A center, a backup PG, a coach that knows how to run a defense and a GM (because if they bring back Isiah in any capacity I’m gone)
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:01 PM
and in a few years, a PG.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:05 PM
Yes.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:05 PM
This would help lead to the re-emergence of the Sixers at the top of the division. Please Isiah come back!
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:09 PM
I forget who put it together, but someone broke down Taylor’s career and said that it’s vastly overrated, and that she hasn’t done anything since 1980. It was kind of harsh, but it’s sort of true: she had become a Hilton/Kardashian kind of celeb sans a sex tape (thank god)
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:09 PM
Phoenix played a triple overtime game on the road last night.
can’t believe i forgot this before i did pull the trigger on feenicks m7. oh well, only halftime. also have the clipjoint m13.5, denver (can’t remember the spread) and northwestern p4

The Flintstones and Maggies first word. Boom. Theory, destroyed.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:17 PM
If I wasn’t so sure you were being glib…
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:20 PM
So she stopped doing movies when her looks left her. And really, when was DeNiro’s last good movie? I really can’t remember. Analyze This? I don’t consider Meet the Parents to be that good.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:20 PM
Plus in Taylor’s time actresses (other than Katheryn Hepburn and a few others) careers ended by 40.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:22 PM
Audrey Hepburn, Vivian Leigh, Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman, etc… did most of their work, if not all, before 40
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:22 PM
I should mention the Formula 1 season starts tomorrow with Friday practice in Melbourne, Australia. Live at 10 pm pacific. I hope Buckner pokes his head in by then.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:24 PM
Grace Kelly? She stopped acting when she married Prince Ranier, didn’t she?
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:27 PM
Robert DeNiro >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Taylor. Please. Her best movies were Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and Virginia Woolfe. The rest were not that good.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:29 PM
Shit, DeNiro’s movies of “Heat”, “Casino” and “Wag The Dog” were better than Tin Roof. Woolfe was a fantastic film all around.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:29 PM
Yeah Ballz that is a reason why a few of them “retired” early. Obviously not as big a marriage as to a prince though
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:30 PM
No shit. My point is even the best stop making good films after a while. And I’d throw Giant in Taylors best movies list.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:31 PM
For some reason I’ve seen Roman Holiday and Breakfast Tiffany’s, but never any Elizabeth Taylor movies. So I was always somewhat baffled by how famous she was in my childhood (early to mid 90s). Was Kathryn Hepburn in the African Queen? Because that movie ruled.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:31 PM

March 23rd, 2011 at 11:32 PM
Taylor’s career maybe wasn’t that great but she was a huge star. I’d say she was one of the top 5 stars in Hollywood during her heyday. I would say equal to a Julia Roberts of 10 years ago.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:32 PM
Where in my comment did I imply that Elizabeth Taylor was better than Robert DeNiro?
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:33 PM
My point Ballz was that Taylor’s career was overrated. In fact it wasn’t even my point, it was a guy from a third party (I think it was Warming Glow or FilmDrunk). I just said he wasn’t that far off.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:33 PM
Yes. Yes, she was.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:36 PM
And you pick today, the day of her death, to bring it up?!?! YOU GHOUL!! YOU HEARTLESS GHOUL!!!!
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:36 PM
I’d compare her to Angelina Jolie. Both had it where everything they did in private was banner headlines, and their movies always seemed to be a big deal. Plus huge sex symbols.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:37 PM
Maybe I am heartless, Ballz, but at least I have a Mr. Sparkle shirt.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:37 PM
when was DeNiro’s last good movie?
was he in copland? stallone was good in that

March 23rd, 2011 at 11:42 PM

Zero good movies. Hot as hell, though.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:42 PM
seems like every time i land on the old movie channel (amc?) there’s an anonymous babe that makes me watch for awhile.
babe + the feminine way they used to dress and their hairstyles = hotchy motchy
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:43 PM
Personal life and celebrity closely resemble Taylor’s more than Roberts. People cared when Roberts broke up with Bratt but that’s it. Most of the world has realized that Roberts is a gigantic bitch haha.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:44 PM
I don’t think Angelina Jolie is hot at all (well, I mean compared to other famous people). Mr. and Mrs. Smith is one of the only movies I’ve ever walked out of the theater on.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:44 PM
Audrey Hepburn and Rita Hayworth take my breath away.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:46 PM
Donna Reed, too.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:47 PM
Elizabeth Taylor in her prime was 100 times the star Julia Roberts ever has been.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:50 PM
I was only comparing her to Julia Roberts in that she was the #1 biggest female star in her prime – not looks or personal life. I think Liz was fantastic looking. She also was the biggest star in terms of people interested in her private life.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:51 PM
Me too. Ok, we both like the Simpsons and short haired waifs. Young Joan Crawford: YOWZA! ‘Cept all those old time stars probably had bushes the size of hubcaps. That kinda ruins it.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:53 PM
Ballz: Did you ever listen to the Vandals? I heard “My Girlfriend’s Dead” for the first time in a long time the other day. Still pretty amusing.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:55 PM
All the time. I’ve seen them live 3 times. Sweatin’ to the Oldies and Live Fast, Diarrhea are in my permanent rotation.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:57 PM
I thought they might be one of your bands. I haven’t listened to them since high school, but some of these songs still hit the spot. I’m now listening to “Warthog” by the Ramones. I’m pretty sure one of the lesser-known members sings it, Dee Dee maybe. It’s a great song though.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:01 AM
Somebody on Real Time with Bill Maher used the term ‘Nimbyism’, referring to a “Not in my backyard” mentality had by some people and I instantly thought of the Vandals song “Nimby” about G.E. Smith, former leader of the SNL band. It’s funny:
The city council met last night, the vote was 1 to 6
Denying access to our town by TV’s G.E. Smith
The mayor cited nightmares had by his daughter Ilene
She dreamed that ugly fucker face jumped out the friggin screen.
And we said ‘No’, we said ‘No Way!’
Not in my backyard you cannot stay!
That eye-sore is a stain upon the nation!
If you think he’s living by me there’s no way! (hey, hey, hey!)
March 24th, 2011 at 12:04 AM
Suprisingly few typos in those song lyrics for a drunk bastard.

Me too. McLaren being far behind in testing has something to do with it. But it really seems like Red Bull has the best car again. Good news is Vettel can get out of his contract anytime he wants to. That Bahrain bullshit ticked me off somethin’ fierce. I’ve been reading Steve Matchett and Will Buxtons tweets every day. Buxton has grown on me. He’s no Peter Windor, but then again, who is?

I found this clip of Michael Schumacher breaking down after equaling the amount of victories Ayrton Senna had. Medicine for anyone who thinks the man is just a robot. Plus it perfectly illustrates the icy relationship between Michael and his brother Ralf, also on the podium.

Supposedly they have an upgrade ready for Melbourne that’ll give them a second in time. Did you hear about Pirelli’s color codes for the different grades of tires? Interesting. And I’m glad the F-ducts are gone. They made the cars look hideous. Crazy good idea that was, though. F1 engineers are amazing.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:31 AM
c’mon a heeeeeya
March 24th, 2011 at 12:32 AM
this is old-school TBLAD
March 24th, 2011 at 12:33 AM
But Ralf did it after Mika Hakkinen. And Michael and Mika were actual championship rivals. Ralf just didn’t want to look like a dick. Totally disegenuous (sp?). BTW, in case you don’t know, Senna died in a crash during a race that Michael eventually won, that’s why he was so emotional.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:37 AM
Only because you’re here, ya old bastard.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:39 AM
Not quite, I’m the only one rocking Johnny Cash. Personal Jesus…
March 24th, 2011 at 12:42 AM
Yeah, I read about the different tire colors. The only thing that seemed odd is why wouldn’t the Wet Tires be blue, but who cares, really?
March 24th, 2011 at 12:44 AM
Billy Buck,
You were in the ESPN fantasy TBL league last year, correct?
March 24th, 2011 at 12:44 AM
Ha! I didn’t think about that. Aren’t the intermediates blue? Same thing. Basically. It’s raining in Melbourne today. Did you hear about the FIA thinking of manually watering down the tracks to make the racing more exciting? That would be a tragedy.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:48 AM
Yessir, I was.
Yeah, they seem to be going out of their way, to a fault, to increase overtaking. Like with the adjustable rear wings, how in races on the person overtaking can use it, only on certain stretches of track, and only if they are within 1 second. It’s dumb, let them use it all the time without limits (like in practice and qualifying) or don’t restrict it.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:51 AM
BB
Try to remind TST to set a draft time before the season starts.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:52 AM
Ahhh, good point.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:53 AM
Yea, the adjustable rear wing regulations are fucking ridiculous. I can’t wait to hear what Varsha, Hobbs, and Matchett have to say about some of this shit tomorrow night. I already know how Varsha feels about the track wetting because I watched Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain on Sunday. Last season was so exciting. They should know by now that you can’t make a rule making it easier to overtake. The aerodynamicists are too damn smart.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:54 AM
I’ve never once played fantasy baseball. I don’t even know how that would work.
March 24th, 2011 at 12:56 AM
Exactly, the teams will figure out something one way or the other.
Anyways, off to watch ‘Limitless’ before crashing. Later all.
