There’s going to be a movie where Eric Bana has a terrible meth habit. The 2nd half of the movie they just get Corey Feldman to play Bana in his drug-addled state.

Any time a list like this includes Purdue, they always default to the Purvis burger at the XXX. It’s good, but I’m convinced that the full plate of Biscuits and Gravy there runs circles around the Burger. I think the peanut butter is the attention-grabber and so it’s the lazy inclusion on the list

Can’t believe they went with something other than the Stretch for Columbia, MO. Makes me question the list’s credibility.

Sandra Bullock sent a million dollars to Japan.
Hate her as an actress but give props here. Since the radiation issues are causing nations to not allow people to go over there for humanitarian aid, this is the next best thing. And to all the idiots out there with their high school-ish comments on Japan, grow up.

Sandra Bullock sent a million dollars to Japan
I’m all for wanting to help Japan and all… but do they really need our money? Obviously 3rd world countries like Haiti/Sudan etc. need our monetary help. But Japan has the 3rd largest economy in the world… I’m sure they’ll pull through. If we should be sending anything over there it’s people that can help with the nuke situation and those fire department rescue teams from LA. I’m just curious to see how much money their private citizens sent us after 9/11 and Katrina.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:27 AM

Can’t believe Duke is playing a first round game in the afternoon! Has that ever happened before?!
Good. I always hated it when Duke vs. some junior college 16 seed was the national spotlight game in prime-time. Especially before this year, when CBS only showed one game at a time.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:29 AM
Needless killing of two spectacular puppies.
Ummm. The disaster is going to cripple their economy in a trememndous manner.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:30 AM
Katy Perry wears makeup to the gym, I see.
They built one in Wrigleyville about 2 years ago. I must say, I generally hate California Pizza Kitchen style pizzas with all sorts of strange toppings, but Ian’s mac n cheese pizza is really good.
Best drunk food in Iowa City was Marco’s grilled cheese stand, Panchero’s or the Walking Taco guys.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
I’m just curious to see how much money their private citizens sent us after 9/11 and Katrina.
An article in the April 29, 2007 Washington Post claimed that of the $854 million offered by foreign countries, whom the article dubs “allies,” to the US Government, only $40 million of the funds had been spent “for disaster victims or reconstruction”
March 18th, 2011 at 9:32 AM
yeah, and it can impact ours, however, i’m no financial expert to see how sending them money will keep their economy from being crippled.
sometimes i think this should be approached like wedding gifts. remember who gave what and return the favor in the same dollar amount.
/pessimistic today, since i have to be at work and not home enjoying the nice day.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:32 AM
So do I, but since Duke supposedly brings ratings, I figured they would be a prime-time game
March 18th, 2011 at 9:32 AM
Didn’t Japan hit Three Mile Island status this morning? That’s troubling. I donated my $10 last week. May have to try and scrounge up a little more after hearing that.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:33 AM
Otherwise they would make her use the men’s lockerroom
March 18th, 2011 at 9:34 AM
The hate for Duke brings in ratings. There’s a Jalen quip to be made but my head hurts too much.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
All three of the No. 1 seeds are 23 point favorites today (as of last night).
March 18th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
Ummm. The disaster is going to cripple their economy in a trememndous manner.
But, like us, they have an enormous economy. 9/11 and Katrina hurt our economy too. A million dollars isn’t going to help an economy that large in the grand scheme of things. Actual people/rescuers that can help with the current situation will. Now, if Bullock sent over a million dollars worth of rescue supplies/medicine… I guess that would make more sense… although I’m sure Japan has all of that stuff already. Didn’t Giulliani turn down a bunch of donations from foreign countries after 9/11?
March 18th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
where did you donate to? a Japanese fund or american/international?
March 18th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
It is awesome. The little one falling into the pool is adorable.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
It has wreaked havoc with my job this week. Everyone is sending their donations to Japan. That’s great and all, but when you’re in domestic non-profit fund-raising it does a number on your organization’s donor base.
This is not a PSA to stop the donations to Japan. Just a statement of fact.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
dont’ worry, like every other disaster the media will move on to something else soon, and the masses will assume japan was fixed, just like haiti and new orleans.

March 18th, 2011 at 9:39 AM
A private citizen is allowed to do what they please with their million bucks…of Sandra bullock believes thy will help than more power to her; who cares what a japanease citizen gave to the us?
Has the us govt sent any international aide besides helping with rescue/recovery?
March 18th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
dont’ worry, like every other disaster the media will move on to something else soon, and the masses will assume japan was fixed, just like haiti and new orleans.
My mom just went down to Haiti a couple of months ago to help out…. she said it’s unbelievable… nothing has gotten done. People are still living in tent-cities…. they kept asking her where all the help went. She said there’s no construction, no infrastructure being built. It’s crazy… we had like a 4 hour national telethon for this disaster, and 4 months later the entire country forgot what happened.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
If we are talking donations I don’t see what it can hurt to send money to a country in crisis, no matter what their perceived wealth is. And I think this is much greater scale than Katrina.
Anyway, I’m too burnt out to talk serious stuff. Mr. Belding is out to an early lead!
March 18th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
I love that the dish in that junkfood link for Michigan is a vegetarian dish. Pussies.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:43 AM
moreso than we understand. they’re going to have to re-survey the entire effing country since it moved up to 8 feet laterally in some areas, there’s new coastline, and there’s been an unknown elevation change. all of their flood inundation maps will have to be redrawn. and those are just rebuilding concerns that are going to affect them for years and years down the road.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:43 AM
It’s not going to impact our economy much. The shit going down in the Middle East is much more imposing.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:44 AM
yeah…unfortunately the bulk of our media seems to be dedicated to politics unless there is a disaster, once the news cycle deems the disaster as old news, it’s politics and talking heads again.

The sandwiches are amazing and it’s a toss-up between them and Ian’s for best drunk food.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:46 AM
Re Haiti..at some point their government has to take responsibility. You have the $ and all the international aide…get off your ass ad start building
March 18th, 2011 at 9:46 AM
The corruption of that government has a lot to do with that. There’s a reason Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, while other islands in similar circumstances (Jamaica for example) can at least bring in tourists and some form of commerce.

Uranium suppliers here are taking a bit of a beating, it’s been offset somewhat by the increase in the price of oil/gas.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:47 AM
Agree with everything said about the dog video: Real-life – I’m going to avoid the video, tell myself they’re OK and move on; and the movies – dogs and other animals are better than people.
Now I can’t decide if I’m mad for the video being included and putting a damper on the happiest weekend on Earth, or if I’m guilty that I haven’t been thinking more about the suffering going on – human and animal – in Japan.
Screw it, I’m watching hoops.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
Does anyone know if the the Tsunami actually hit the nuclear power plant that’s giving Japan all these troubles? My understanding was that it was the Tsunami that caused a lot of the damage that crippled the plant, but looking at video/pictures… it doesn’t look like a giant wave inundated the shoreline where the plant is located. Was it just the earthquake that caused all of the failures in the plant?

Agree. Although, I’m thinking of starting a petition to stop all of this “2nd Round” nonsense. Louisville should not be able to go home and say they got knocked out in the second round of the tournament. Are they implying that 60 teams got a bye? Just stupid.

March 18th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
ATL_Badger – my understanding is that the earthquake knocked out the power which caused the plant to require its backup diesel generator system to keep the reactors cool. the tsunami then knocked out the diesel generators which caused the plant to required its battery backup system to kick in to keep reactors cool. but the batteries only had something like 8 hours of life so when that ran out, they had nothing to keep water circulating through the reactors.
March 18th, 2011 at 9:59 AM

Thanks… that’s what I had heard too… I was just thrown off by the pictures/videos coming in showing the plant. It doesn’t seem like there was a whole lot of Tsunami damage compared to other parts of the country. But I guess I would attribute that to the fact that there weren’t many residential buildings, etc. around the plant area to get washed away.

I talked about the Duke time slot yesterday. My theory is that TruTV begged for that game. It’s not like they’re gonna lose, but a lot of people are going to watch anyway. So this is their big chance to draw an audience that has never heard for that channel. I guarantee you that after the first round blowout, Duke will get the choice time slots for the rest of the tournament.

People are waiting for Barkley to lose it. Seth Davis doesn’t “move the needle.”

i started a new position at my company in january and i haven’t printed 1 sheet of paper since then. before, it was easily close to 200 sheets of paper every day.

Love tourney coverage, especially mixing in the TV with March Madness app on the iPad, but why the hell are the NBA guys doing the studio on CBS and Seth Davis and the guys that actually watch college basketball are one TBS or TNT?
You guys actually watch the pre-game/post-game studio coverage? Chuck would be the only reason I’d consider watching, because he might say something funny. The other guys don’t really give me any insight to these games. They don’t know what’s going to happen anymore than you or I do.

It would be impossible to do my job without using a shit ton of paper.

I think my company is single-handedly responsible for the destruction of about 3 acres of rain forest every day. I have a special box I through all my paper in for recycling, but it really doesn’t put a dent in what we go through everyday. I’m convinced law firms go through more paper than any other industry.

Me too, the way the system is set up right now. But if everything was computer/PDF based and easily searchable; it’s completely feasible.

It would take SO LONG to do certain parts of my job with PDFs. I know it’s possible to edit through acrobat, but it takes forever. If I’m working on a copyediting or a proofing pass, hard copies are a must. I’d hate to know how much paper I go through in a week. Probably a couple thousand sheets.

I live in Boston. I’m down in Raleigh for business. I’m gonna live this shit up. I won’t see this weather for another two months back home.
