A friend of mine grew up in that area. her dad’s house is actually build within feet of the fault line. her parents pulled her out of school back when they predicted that “the big one” was coming. don’t remember for sure when it was, somewhere around 1995 I think.

there’s a funny cycle in the Commercial Appeal. when news gets slow, there’s a writer that will write about the next “big one” and his articles are supposed to be serious, but it’s so much scare tactics to elicit a reaction that they’re kinda amusing. the History Channel does a Mega Disasters series and they came to Memphis once to do on one the next “big one.” they interviewed me and filmed me doing a presentation and that CA writer was there. apparently, I wasn’t doom-and-gloom enough for any of my presentation to make it onto the show, but they used some of my graphics so I got my name in the credits (instant fame!!). the CA writer cherry-picked some of my stuff and wrote a whole article around just a few of my quotes.

If/When we get another major eastern half of the US earthquake there will be some serious shit fucked up. In particular, the MO/TEN/KY border area and Charleston, SC areas. Eastern half earthquakes are way different than the west coast ones. The wave is distributed over a much larger area.

yep. move an earthquake with the same magnitude from the San Andreas fault out in Cali to the New Madrid faults, and the damage zone is MUUUUUUCH larger.
