Zack Greinke is Off to a Bad Start In Milwaukee
Zack Greinke: Perhaps the second most significant offseason acquisition in baseball will get late start to the season with the Brewers. Greinke suffered a cracked rib and bruised rib playing some pickup basketball at the start of training camp and he’ll start the 2011 season on the DL. He landed hard after going up for a rebound. Wrote SI’s Jon Heyman: “… his actions amounted to a childish mistake with adult repercussions. He spent a winter expressing his frustration over the Royals’ failure to win, and now he has started off as a Brewer by doing something that has hurt their chances to do the same.” The Brewers will not penalize Greinke. like i typed to stark yesterday, imagine if say Derrick Rose got injured pitching
March 9th, 2011 at 12:03 PM
i would LOVE to see the reaction if he’d have done this in his first offseason as a yankee.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:04 PM
“Everyone always told me not to do it because I was going to get hurt,” Greinke said. “It finally caught up to me.”
March 9th, 2011 at 12:04 PM
cracked rib and bruised rib
At least he has a medically viable excuse for missing time.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:10 PM
yeah, unlike that fake, made up issue he had before.
/ty duffy’d.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:10 PM
Where’s Watsonian? Nice start to the Brewers season! lol, j/k
Still a stupid decision by the kid, you’re a pitcher not a basketball player.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
Winner.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:15 PM
He’d be basketball’s Mark Prior
March 9th, 2011 at 12:16 PM
haha?
March 9th, 2011 at 12:16 PM
Did Duffy really say that?
March 9th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
When you’re getting paid that much money to play baseball and spring training has begun, sit on your couch and get a blowjob when you’re not playing baseball you unfathomable moron.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:18 PM
I think you’re thinking of Morneau.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:18 PM
if i recall correctly, it was implied in a post about those types of disorders, and the comments eveolved into picking on duffy about something he may or may not have fully intended to say.
at least that’s what i got out of it.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:19 PM
can i do that even if i’m not getting paid to play baseball?
March 9th, 2011 at 12:20 PM
Gotcha. I’ll stay warmed up just in case anyone tries it again…
March 9th, 2011 at 12:21 PM
I wonder how much time he’ll miss. The NL Central should be a close race. If he misses 4 or 5 starts, that could really hurt the Brewers chances.

NO ONE ELSE BETTER CLICK THAT!!!
March 9th, 2011 at 12:23 PM
Yep, Pirates and Astros will be neck and neck for 5th place all season.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:24 PM
Ha!
March 9th, 2011 at 12:26 PM
The Cards missing Wainwright will be huge, so the Brewers really need to get off to a good start. I think you’re right, probably only 4-5 starts so not a huge deal, but yeah those games could end being big when all is said and done. I do think it will be them and the Reds fighting for the top of that division.

Battling for who gets the first pick next year!
March 9th, 2011 at 12:29 PM
wow, nothing better to pass the time at work than looking at TBl and shitmykidsruined.com
March 9th, 2011 at 12:30 PM
I’ve kinda written off the Cards after the Wainwright injury. Dave Duncan might work some magic with one of those shitty starters though. Westbrook is gonna put up Cy Young type numbers probably.

@Watsonian –
I’m fine with you doubting the Giants this year, but I take issue with you saying their record was “inflated” last year…they had the second highest run differential in the NL and 4th best in baseball, behind the Yankees, Rays and Phillies.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:32 PM
Too close to lunch for that diaper photo
I got UConn-Georgetown on ESPN3, what a time to be alive…last few years it was Yahoo gamecast to get me through conference tourney week
March 9th, 2011 at 12:32 PM
This week is a down week for me, which is nice. Lots of time to kill on the interwebs.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:32 PM
yeah, but i almost spit out my water at the lil’ hulk pic.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
This whole post makes me shake my head. Isn’t getting Marcum and Gallardo through a full season way more important than Grienke missing 3 starts or 10 starts? Two question marks from guys who made like 10 starts combined last year seems way more important. Are they going to get 45 quality starts from their 4/5 starters? Also seems important.
I’d hold Grienke out 2 months if necessary, get the rib 100%, so it’s not lingering, and spend WAY more time worrying about spots 2-5. Grienke doesnt make that team. Just ask Seattle and their ace last year.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
Seattle’s fucking hot garbage. This comparison lacks relevance.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
exactly, gallardo doesn’t finish a season well, they need at least one pitcher to help the team down the stretch.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
Jon Heyman deserves to get bitch slapped.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:36 PM
that miley/biggie mashup is fire.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:37 PM
Okay it was 2008 and 2009 those guys were injured. See how much I follow the NL?
But I still think getting them through a full season + 4th/5th starters > worrying about a month or two months of Grienke.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:37 PM
Did I say inflated? Probably. What I meant was there will be quite a bit of regression with some of their players this year, especially Huff, Burrell, and Torres. I like that team a lot better if Belt is starting at 1b on opening day. I’m not saying they’re a bad team. I wouldn’t be surprised if they won the division. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they were a .500 team.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:39 PM
I do like the Brewers lineup, even without Prince. My point is that one good starter isn’t enough. I don’t care if it’s Seattle, or the Brewers, or anyone else. You need quality pitching more than you need one great starter. Just ask the trash Cards rotation that got to the World Series in 2004. You need aces to win in the playoffs. You need depth to win the regular season.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:39 PM
Having any trace of offense would’ve helped Seattle a little bit. That’s one stadium that needs to move their fences wayyy in.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:41 PM
Live your life, man.
Heyman is a dickhead.
March 9th, 2011 at 12:43 PM
So their #2-#5 starters can all have 6+ ERAs?
March 9th, 2011 at 12:47 PM
chicks dig the longball.
March 9th, 2011 at 1:03 PM
Interesting stat in Seattle Times today. Seattle scored only 32 more runs ALL SEASON than the Red Sox had at the All-Star Break.
You can’t even say a Cy Young-caliber pitcher and an MVP position player will get you to the promise land, else Pujols and Carpenter would have 3 rings.
March 9th, 2011 at 1:20 PM
like i typed to stark yesterday, imagine if say Derrick Rose got injured pitching
You said that to me? Why? My only question on Greinke is should I drop him as a keeper. I think I’m going to. Carlos Santana will stay on my roster afterall!
March 9th, 2011 at 1:39 PM
stark, i think it was at TVF. not in response to anything you said other than a comment on greinke.
